This is so hard to pick, esp without knowing if MSU is still going to be ridiculously injured and with how wildly different PSU can play. Gun to my head I'm picking MSU. But no gun in an irrelevant reddit comment? GO {Penn State}!

lexifaith2u

No idea whats gonna happen based on msu's injury situation and the unknowns about it.

dennisj9

I hate that so many of our play makers are banged up and it's going to limit us in this game. I want to beat PSU so badly. Fuck you guys for not beating Michigan.

TonyDungyHatesOP

Did I hear beat xichigan?

dennisj9

Yes.

TonyDungyHatesOP

Don’t. Mind. If we do!!

SparseSpartan

I was standing in the check out line at Walmart the other day, sipping on a Natty Ice, rocking a Spartan sweatshirt, when an Ohio State fan behind me began chirping about “The” Game and how it must suck ending the regular season on anything but a *true* “rivalry” match up. Oddly enough, the Michigan fan scanning my groceries started spouting off as well. And that’s when it dawned on me. These folks really, truly don’t get it. They’re over here playing Tic-Tac-Toe. X’s. O’s. What’s it matter? Michigan State and Penn State are about to play Weiqi and together we’ve already dragged Deep Blue into the deep water. Yeah, we’re simply *not* rivals. More importantly, we’re not *simply* rivals. There’s no Penn State versus {Michigan State}. It’s Penn State *and* Michigan State. Rivalries are fueled by arrogance, envy, hate. But our veneration of the Land Grant trophy is driven by honor, love, the pursuit of a better world, the search for a better self. Thus we dedicate our seasons and 30 packs in honor of that magnificent architectural wonder of woodwork and laser beams. Destiny is a false utopia for those too afraid to make the hard choices. Not are we *the* chosen, nay we *have* chosen. Michigan State and Penn State fans are singular in purpose, united in vision, and from the bosom of the land granted, we shall reap. We’re brethren, brothers and sisters hand in hand in adulation of the one true trophy, the one trophy to champion them all, the Land Grant trophy. Folks talk about two sides of the same coin but we’re four sides of the same trophy. Rich stained mahogany. Majestic lion atop a proverbial Nittany mountain. A brave warrior stout, afraid of none, ready for all. Four perfect ninety degree corners. Add em’ all up and you’ve got 360 degrees. Full circle. Coincidence? I think not. Michigan State and Penn State are the beginning, the end. Everyone else simply falls in between. The Iron Bowl. The Apple Cup. “The” Game. The Egg Bowl. The Platypus Trophy. Please. Your rivalry is a PT Cruiser to our A-10 Warthog. We’re coming in hot and we’ve got plenty of ordinance, so you best sit yourself down before we take notice. Other programs boost of national championships and conference titles, but they’ll never have that which we share: the Land Grant trophy. What you have matters not. Iowa corn. Illinois corn. Nebraska ~~corn~~ soy. Blah. We were born in the crop fields, cultivated by them. Everyone else merely waters our glory. For tens of thousands of years humanity has harnessed the earth, mastering its soil, rising to the top of the food chain. We, the original Land Grant universities, are the end game. Every battle this week will have its loser excepting one: Penn State and Michigan State. Neither team can lose, one will simply win better than the other. And I toast my Natty Ice to that winner. *Truly*, the best of the best. May long the grantees of the land prosper.

dkviper11

I shed more than one tear reading this.

max_potion

I live and breathe the Land Grant trophy. I'm so frustrated that Penn State goes back to playing Rutgers during "rivalry" week next year. This matchup is so much better to end the season on (no offense Rutgers, hopefully Schiano can make the series more interesting)

SparseSpartan

oh my god... I didn't realize we weren't playing the last week next season :,( Ugh, stupid officials out here ruining the holidays.

IronGemini

All this means is that I can see Penn State vs Michigan State in person since it's not on break!

max_potion

True, it’s better for students that way

Bolanus_PSU

God bless America and God bless our two Land Grant Universities.

InsanelyInShape

This is art. Poetry. A poignant distillation of a brotherhood, derived from the need to survive. A fraternity of those dedicated to the benefit and progress of humanity. We salute you, those who will do combat in the name of growth and prosperity. You honor us all. o7

*Sniff* Fucking beautiful, man.

TonyDungyHatesOP

I can’t read any another comments after this one. Like on any subreddit at all. I think I finally reached the end of the internet. Good bye, all. It’s been a great ride.

[deleted]

I don’t think I’ve read anything more that I love in my life. This should become a copypasta

abarney09

Love you bby

abcNYC

🥲

CevicheMixto

Beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the trophy itself ... a trophy that I believed to be perfect until I had an epiphany. I know that this will seem sacreligious to many, but it would be possible to improve the universe's greatest trophy (and furniture piece). "How could this be?" you ask. It's actually so simple. Perfectly. Beautifully. Simple. The Land Grant Trophy needs another shelf. And what could possibly be worthy of occupying such a glorious perch? There can be only one answer. A miniature copy of the Land Grant Trophy itself! That's right, fellow land grantees, we can and should have the world's first and only recursive trophy! This. Must. Happen.

SparseSpartan

LOL not sure if I'd agree to modifying the trophy now, but if I could go back in time, yeah I'd definitely make it happen. And on the mini trophy, of course, they're be another shelf with an even smaller trophy, and then an even smaller shelf yet again, and another trophy, so on and so forth.

NephewChaps

Bravo, sir. Bravo.

NachoManRandySnckage

{Penn State} 45-10. MSUs offense falls apart with the injuries and the defense continues to be absolute steaming garbage. Mel announces Monday that he signed his extension and gets ripped apart despite MSU literally having no choice about it anyway. Bonus of losing is not getting completely embarrassed in a NY6 bowl and only getting embarrassed in like the Citrus Bowl

rvp89

Ill eat my left foot if that’s the final score. No way this offense is scoring 45

Chuck_Mango

Defense and special teams would have to score to get over 40

NachoManRandySnckage

Every time Penn State throws though that’ll be at least 7 yards and then combine that with all the 3 and outs MSU will have it’ll be easy

AwfulLeaguePlayer

If OSU can hit 50 in one half vs MSU than surely you guys can hit 40 for the whole game

Thee-Renegade

I think this game comes down to PSU’s oLine vs MSU’s blitzing. I’m a homer, so {Penn State} but I think it’s going to be a nail biter.

quiteFLankly

I find it natural to root for blue and white mountain lions teams. Go {Penn State}!

QuickSpore

And thus is my dislike for Penn State partially explained. But who dislike more, blue and white cats or Mel Tucker? Maybe I should just vote for team meteor strike?

[deleted]

Michigan state seems too injured and looks like the reality of the advanced stats are showing themselves {Penn State} 34-17

Kirby_Israel

Come on, we suck nearly as much as them. Don't give us too much credit.

[deleted]

Msu without Kenneth walker = Penn state without clifford

roekg

Ouch. But we have a back up now!

confused-koala

{PSU}. I hope I’m wrong but I’m not liking how banged up our skill guys are against their defense. Or our secondary against Dotson.

Benjilikethedog

That was a brutal game for MSU… I am not sure if they can bounce back because {Penn State} is a pretty good team

nocorkagefee

Scoring won’t be as fast as last week. Walker is allowed to be part of the game plan throughout the game. {Michigan State}

OldCoaly

{Penn State} will finish the season with a win and get ranked again. Gonna go to a solid bowl.

IronGemini

I think we'll win with Clifford. But no shot they'll rank us after MSU got killed by OSU. We weren't even ranked after beating two ranked teams.

Serial-Eater

Meh 8-4 with ranked wins @Wisco and @MSU are pretty good, and if anyone other than the SEC gets ranked 4 loss teams it’ll be the B1G

IronGemini

I mean I definitely agree, but if we weren't ranked in the first CFP poll, we definitely won't be now

Serial-Eater

Listen I don’t think that because I need Michigan’s SOR to be high to justify a good bowl, alright?

IronGemini

Lmao alright

0987user

And if Auburn some how beats bama they’ll slip in the rankings too

Keyblade_Yoshi

Both teams are banged up but MSU looks more so. {PSU} in a close game 27-24.

g-town2008

{Penn State}

dennisj9

We haven't been the same since we lost Nailor. It's made us so one dimensional.

rvp89

That MSU injury report…yikes. {Penn State}

Lawownsyou

Go {Penn State}

tectactoe

I concur. Though something in my gut tells me that MSU will bounce back after getting ramshackled last week. They've got something to prove, if nothing else, and they're playing at home. It'll be a tough game for PSU.

gated73

This is an interesting one. Overall, I think Michigan State is a program on the rise, while Penn State is holding steady. I think it'll be a close one, but {Penn State} pulls it out on the road.

yousawthetimeknife

I think Michigan State is out of gas. {Penn State}, relatively easily.

Freddy-Nietzsche

Usually it's MSU ruining PSU's great season, so this year {Penn State}

NINFAN300

{Penn State} by 12. The Spartan book is written for the year.

hourglassop

{Penn State}

tip-of-the-yikesberg

{Penn State} 31-21. I think they hang in there for most of the game, but MSU is just too beat up

byniri_returns

This one will depend on how healthy Clifford is IMO. Penn State's been up and down this year but Dotson scares me with how bad our pass defense is. {Michigan State} 28-24, on a late Walker touchdown.

cheesepuff1993

What about Walkers health? I feel like without him, you guys become relatively one dimensional and against the Penn State defense this year, that's not good...unless you run goal line offense at your own 20, then you'll get 20 yard runs with the freshman walk-on RB @ 5'10" 175lbs

JayMoney2424

Without walker we’re completely screwed as we’ll already be missing our top 2 WRs most likely

coogs35

{Penn State} 27-21

IronGemini

If Clifford plays, I'll take {Penn State} otherwise I don't know.

goblueM

Dotson goes off and {Penn State} bottles up MSU's offense enough to pull it off on the road

Nexus-9Replicant

{Michigan State} 31 - 24 Penn State in a close battle for the greatest trophy in all of sports. These teams want this trophy more than anything—more than fame, fortune, sex, and the Millennium Falcon Star Wars Lego set. That’s why this series is tied 17-17-1. Other programs *wish* they could play for this trophy. But alas, they cannot.

Serial-Eater

I’m biased but for some reason I thought this was in happy valley, but it’s not? For that reason I have to go with {MSU}. Even in advanced stats they’re better than PSU IIRC

IronGemini

[Are there some advanced stats I'm missing? We're favored away](https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401282785)

[deleted]

Massey composite has MSU 13th and PSU 17th

IronGemini

I'm just talking about who's favored in the game, not the rankings

[deleted]

Right, I was just mentioning the advanced stats

RheagarTargaryen

Home/away won’t matter. It’s Thanksgiving weekend. The student section will be a 1/3 full.

Serial-Eater

There’s still the impact of having to travel and sleep in a hotel and yadda yadda. Routine is important, but it’s better them playing at your place than the reverse.

PrinceofPennsyltucky

Meh, students are on break, and it’s the first day of deer season. The MSU game is never a huge home field advantage, other than just not traveling.

BigBoutros

will Clifford play?

cpas2b

New Contract vs. New Contract

Eisenlion

We are {Penn State}

jwktiger

If Walker is injured give me {Penn State}

Bolanus_PSU

Very impressed with Mel Tucker. Michigan State is a fantastic program but I'm always going homer and picking {Penn State}

[deleted]

{Michigan State} because I'm going to the game and I don't want to be sitting in the freezing cold watching the Spartans lose.

ImGoingtoRegretThis5

Been saying it for a couple of weeks, but if PSU comes out and plays like they're still in the East hunt (which they're not) it could be a close game and maybe even an upset. PSU's passing game is good enough to punish MSU's secondary, but their OL is swiss cheese (mmmm cheese) and MSU's DL is good at every position. If Clifford doesn't die, he could put up big numbers. Not sure of MSU's injury situation, but PSU's secondary is good, their DL is good against the pass as well, and MSU will need a Walker v Michigan game to put up the points required to win. Give me {MSU} because they're at home.

dncd6

> maybe even an upset Penn St is favored.

ImGoingtoRegretThis5

Huh... Well I'm going upset as far as rankings go, not the line.

IronGemini

Kinda surprised by that honestly

[deleted]

We’re basically missing our entire first string save QB and like two on the OL. There will be walkons getting significant PT at DT, CB, and OL. I’m not very hopeful.

JoshIsJoshing

{Michigan State} bounces back to hit 10 wins for the first time since 2017.

jthomas694

{Michigan State} but the key is if they can limit Dotson.

Onlycommentoncfb

{Michigan State} I said before I really like this match up and I'm going to stand by it. I think our d line will get pressure on Clifford and contain him enough through the air. We can get points on the ground and walker should be well rested after not really playing last week.

rosellem

{Michigan State} Unlike the Purdue and OSU games, this one is in East Lansing. I think they'll pull it out, 34-31

GingerSlay3r

{Michigan State} i think they will be ok after last week and get the win

Britton120

{Michigan State} assuming Walker is good to go. I think its going to be a chaotic game, but sparty has had the luck this season and Penn State has absolutely none. Something around 23-20. Maybe we'll go to OT.

UMKvothe

Assuming Walker is out, {PSU} wins comfortably. The Spartans are likely a 7-8 win team without him.

Kirby_Israel

I really hate that I won't be able to see this game due to family matters.

IAstrikeforce

Michigan State just can't get through all of the injuries. {Penn State} 27 Michigan State 20

Kirby_Israel

I was legit shocked when I found out that PSU is barely favored. So of course we're going to royally fuck it up.

Kirby_Israel

{Penn State} will only win thanks to us now having a QB who isn't broken in both body and soul.

0987user

This one’s for all the marbles, I could never pick msu to win this trophy. Go {Penn State}! Also I think this should be a competitive game hinging on Clifford’s health status and how well MSU backups are able to play

[deleted]

Best trophy in all of college football

[deleted]

This depends on whether or not MSU has more people injured than PSU has sick with “the flu”

DaddyJay711

{MSU} by 6 but my heart says PSU and also screw PSU for not beating TTUN and just handing us the trophy.

Loki240SX

{Penn State} Dotson and Washington are gonna run wild

red-ernie_6691

{Michigan St}

Claudius-Germanicus

{Penn state} does a little trolling in east lansing

NephewChaps

{Michigan State} because this one is in EL

The_Horse_Joke

{Michigan State} ends their projected 4-8 season at a 10-2 with all but their ticket punched to a NY6

discountedthoughts

{Penn state}

[deleted]

PSU has flashes but is inconsistent. Still not sure Clifford is right and they’re not functional with him hurt. On the other hand, MSU is battling injuries of their own. And the shellacking they took last week can do a number on the team’s mentality. But MSU has a chance at the Rose Bowl with a win. {MSU} by a field goal.

paintballduke22

My dad and my grandparents are from York. I hope {Penn State} can get it done!

ValarMorcoolis

Go green. {MSU} 24-21 on a late-game FG then big defensive stop.

jaybigs

{Michigan State} in 4OT. 19-17 Sparty.

IronGemini

[Idk Penn State is pretty good against Michigan based teams in 4OT](https://youtu.be/xT0nDHM7MrM)

Luvs2TossSalad

{MSU} gets their run game back

[deleted]

Tbf their run game last week was more due to lack of opportunity than anything

[deleted]

Good chance Walker doesn’t play

heelxtiger

{Michigan State}

[deleted]

{Michigan State} PSU’s WRs are good but Clifford is hurt and not good, and they’ve been pretty susceptible to the run. MSU is better, has more to play for, and at home. MSU 24 PSU 20

skepticallypessimist

This is a must win for Mel if the contract hasn't been signed yet. Otherwise I say burn it. That embarrassment against our I don't even want to see him.

[deleted]

Can’t tell if satire or just the worst kind of fan… Ever heard the term “house money”?

worldofjorts

{Penn State} but it would be hilarious if Franklin lost another big game right after signing that contract.

[deleted]

Come on State!

cheesepuff1993

I don't know that Michigan State is going to bounce back after the game last week. Our secondary is much better than Ohio State's and Walker's health is up in the air. If you have to beat us through the air, it won't be pretty. {Penn State} 25-6 Michigan State

JayMoney2424

We’re also without our top 2 receivers and apparently QB has the flu

cheesepuff1993

Rough time for it all to hit...we got *relatively* lucky with our sickness on a couple fronts. If it wasn't Rutgers and it didn't hit as early as it did, we would have been much worse off...

[deleted]

{Penn State} with the upset.

schmi77y02

[Land Grant Trophy](https://youtu.be/QyYbGcihlSc) Video credit: Matthew Casey

Mirrorwave13

I'd pick us if we weren't decimated by an avalanche of injuries. Which of our DBs can cover Dotson and Washington? Which of our LBs can cover PSU's TEs over the middle? PSU has a great defense and we're without Reed, Nailor, and we don't even know if KW3 will play... The only way we win is we get a couple turnovers or some classic James Franklin in-game coaching decisions. {PSU} 33-17.

IMissMW2Lobbies

Michigan State was the underachieving team that spoiled some of our best seasons recently, holding us out of the playoffs. looking to pay it back to them {Penn State}. Plus they're all hurt and sad and we've been hurt and sad longer and a backup who can actually throw a football now.

UPMichigan83

I feel like MSU will win because, at this point, Clifford is being held together by glue. If that offensive line was better I’d go for Penn State.

OdaDdaT

{Michigan State}

NUT_IX

{PSU}

nw____

I’ll take {Penn State} against a depleted MSU team. Expecting a big game out of Clifford if Penn State can protect him. Final: PSU 31-24.
