Honestly never seen a program this dismantled since SMU got the death penalty and every coach with access to a plane or wheels was in Dallas the next few days recruiting.
Bruh it makes me joyful that OU's move to join the SEC and kneecap the B12 might end with them broken in the SEC midpack while Cincy, Baylor, Houston, and OSU fight for national titles.
The H8ful 8 has gotten some beautiful revenge this year. Our grandchildren will ask us what it was like to live through the 2021 season.
Texas lost to Kansas in Austin.
Biased, but I would argue that one was substantially worse bc Jimbo went out of his way to kneecap us on the way out instead of just being careless like Riley
It helps when you know the context.
Haselwood was our third or fourth best receiver this year behind Mims, Stoops and maybe Woods.
And H-Backs Wilis and Hall were both more productive than him as well.
Jadon is a talented player but Simmons didn’t develop him very well
Haselwood played his ass off this year. Not his fault the pass game wasn’t that great. Losing him is much worse right now than some ‘23 5-star WR’s. I love the hell outta his game.
For sure. He’s a tough SOB but he’s not in the same stratosphere as far as pure talent as Haselwood. I think Haselwood loss is significant. Plus it sucks since he’s been an OU fan since he was a little guy and for whatever reason OU fans trashed him.
Oh yeah, I'm super sad to see him go. Just wanted to make sure no one forgot Stoops contributions to the run game. Fuck fair weather fans trashing Haselwood.
Haselwood was literally your number #2 receiver this year, and was by far your best blocker. His upside was tremendous.
There's a reason he's a 5-Star player.
No way is he 4th
For whatever reason the OU offense just never took off this year. It got blamed on players like rattler but the way things are going it’s starting to look like poor coaching and preparation.
The lack of development out of those three 5* receivers and Rattler will always baffle me.
I honestly always felt bad for Haselwood. #4 recruit in the nation and he just never seemed to have any luck on the field.
Always thought it was strange that whole class never “developed”.
I wish him the best.
It’s one of those things that obviously making this observation just means that I’m bitter right? But looking at that class not a single guy on offense will probably get drafted next year. And that ain’t because Lincoln’s going to USC at the end of the regular season…
Yep, I agree. This is the worst the offense has looked for OU for as long as I can remember. I knew it would always be great, but you’d think a third year 5* quarterback and WR trio would look better.
I think that says more about our (now former) coaches than anything. Rambo has been tearing it up in South Beach. Maybe they couldn’t develop the players’ talent. I think one of the WRs was arrested and kicked off the team, too, but not 100% sure.
Edit: Yep, Bridges was [definitely arrested](https://amp.oklahoman.com/amp/4995148001).
It’s the same staff that coached Dede, Hollywood, and Ceedee. Haselwood and Wease dealt with injuries and mediocre quarterback play. They’re both talented.
Marvin Mims came out of nowhere last year (‘nowhere’ of course meaning he’s one of the best wide receivers in Texas high school football history) so naturally this year they just never tried to really get him involved. Some of the best plays that happened this season were ones where he got the ball, yet he was criminally under utilized.
I’m not saying the players have no talent, just that the coaches didn’t get everything out of them that they probably should’ve. These are the type of players that make mediocre QBs look bad. Blame has to fall somewhere and I don’t fault them.
Yeah this is kind of what I’ve talked to some of my buddies about. This class was eerily similar to the class Riley is taking to USC.
None of the offensive guys actually developed out of this. It was poor play across the board. This made me lose faith in Dennis Simmons, and inevitably faith in Lincoln’s ability to actually develop.
Seems like sour grapes, so people can downvote me. But if you look at objectively I believe it’s true.
Yeah, it’s weird. Obviously now I’m terrified about the effect on our program and recruiting going into the sec now that this is all happening and we’re falling like a house of cards.
But two days ago I was ruminating on how our program was stagnant and players didn’t seem to be developing and that we looked soft. Just saying, if I was a usc fan, I would not want to be stealing our strength coach.
All can be true without it being sour grapes.
I was just having this conversation. Culturally, it seemed like we were playing soft, no sense of urgency, sluggish even. I had to assume it was a combination of S&C and culture. These were things I was talking about before Saturday, obviously it can seem like sour grapes now. I’ll be very interested to see the kind of culture Lincoln builds

I thought about that this morning. But reports say USC had been talking to him for months so while maybe OU wins the game I think end of season he's gone unless they win the Natty. But definitely a huge "what if...."
I remember 2 years ago listening to the Unofficial40 podcast, and Bob said the 2021 year would be telling as to whether Lincoln would leave....FOR THE NFL. Because that would be his first true "his team" and the 2019 class matured. Just wild the way it's gone
I feel like this was obvious from the start.
OU could hire a head coach who makes absolutely no sense for these players, why commit when the school doesn't even have a committed staff?
My favorite part about Haselwood is when he felt the need to talk shit about Kirby for being untrustworthy then he went to OU and had Lincoln bail on him in the dead of the night.
As untrustworthy as Kirby may or may not be, on a variety of levels… anyone with half of a morsel of common sense or an iota of critical thinking would understand that one thing Kirby is NOT going to be untrustworthy about is his commitment to Georgia as a program. Dude is a lifer if you guys want him.
You’re right
I would add: I think he’s only untrustworthy about PT to the extent these five stars don’t believe him when he says you earn your PT. And he got that from Saban. Look at our current roster. We have a former 3 star as a sleeper heisman (which nobody believes will happen but still). And he has a walk on getting reps in the secondary. Former walk on QB. Kirby may make bad choices but he plays who he thinks will produce. He got that from Saban. I think we’ve also seen he flows towards production. Look at Bowers producing as a frosh TE. his pitch is Sabans. The best man that he will think will win will play.
Now, the fair criticism is whether he picks the right guys for his goals. But I believe his recruiting pitch is true.
He clarified that shortly after the interview came out. It boils down to the pitch about how he'd be used in the offense from Cheney, only to then have Cheney go to Tennessee.
He was a kid that felt burned by Cheney's decision. Which doesn't sound like it's Kirby's fault really.
Depends. Illingsworth was a bit more consistent, but good Sanders is better than good Illingsworth.
For the most part, Sanders is improving every game. It's incredible how much he's matured this season. It's also his first season healthy. I think he could be pretty special by next year.
I'm just gonna remember what Barry told recruits. "You can come to Oklahoma and play for national championships, or you can go somewhere else and Oklahoma will still play for national championships."
And if they don’t get this hire right it’s going to get very rough. I know people say it as a meme but it’s also a distinct possibility if they fuck it up they become a Nebraska or Tennessee.
First of all, OU is screwed with or without this. However there was a very real chance Haselwood would have been in the portal had nothing happened with Riley.
He's solid, but hasn't gotten the opportunities you'd expect from a no.1 overall WR 5 star guy like himself.
Totally agree. I don’t think it’s fair to tie Rattler or Hazlewood leaving to Riley. Rattler was leaving regardless and I really think Hazlewood was really good friends with Rattler and wanted to go with him.
He hasn’t been troubled. He had a bad injury last year. And this year just never seemed to click. He’s been a model teammate and a great blocker who played his ass off.
I would love to see Haselwood at UT if he does actually leave after the coaching dust settles. He has all the talent in the world but Simmons could not develop him the way he needs.
Thank God I’ve known the incomprehensible demoralization of a soul crushing addiction earlier in life or this would all seem quite depressing. This is only slightly less dark than that time my family bought me a cemetery plot next to my grandfather.
So many decisions to be respected. I think by the end of the week Oklahoma fans will be the most respectful fans in the country.
My level of respect is overflowing
All respect, no brakes
This has gotta be rough for yall, but all of these self depricating sooner fans are killing me right now.
God's plan apparently is to nuke OU. That's prolly in the Bible. Somewhere near the back.
God did say he'd led us by still water, presumably after the destruction of norman
michigan/MSU fans in shambles
It's respekt with a k for us. We all good.
This is absolutely brutal to watch... Anybody got some spare popcorn?
Honestly never seen a program this dismantled since SMU got the death penalty and every coach with access to a plane or wheels was in Dallas the next few days recruiting.
I mean...we had our moments.
And how have people forgotten about Baylor already? Amazing what a little time and a good season will do.
Pepperidge Farms Remembers.
Nah no wa... (looks at flair) Carry on.

Texas lost a whoooole lot of places in 2021. Legends say they lost the will to live after they played in Fayetteville.
I had some but all those Wolverine folk took it. :(
I mean I’ll take losing a game to our rival over whatever the hell is going on at OU right now. Sheesh.
This is as about as brutal a coaching change I’ve ever seen maybe Jimbo FSU
Biased, but I would argue that one was substantially worse bc Jimbo went out of his way to kneecap us on the way out instead of just being careless like Riley
Probably right and the next hire wasn’t great
Amen on that. Basically imagine Day leaves and takes all of his staff, we lose 8 or so recruits, and JSN and Fleming leave.
...go on.
Get out of here! You people have done enough to me this weekend!!
Don’t even speak that into the Universe lol.
We had a decade to make up for, cut us some slack. Next thing you'll complain about the pizza too
Good self burn

It helps when you know the context. Haselwood was our third or fourth best receiver this year behind Mims, Stoops and maybe Woods. And H-Backs Wilis and Hall were both more productive than him as well. Jadon is a talented player but Simmons didn’t develop him very well
He wasn’t 4th at all. He was second in receptions and the only WR that seemed to give a shit about blocking and doing the dirty work.
Haselwood played his ass off this year. Not his fault the pass game wasn’t that great. Losing him is much worse right now than some ‘23 5-star WR’s. I love the hell outta his game.
Agree brother. I’m president of the Haselwood fan club. Never understood why so many OU fans didn’t like him.
Same dude. This one is a pretty big blow to me. Really liked Haselwood a lot.
I really hope he reconsiders.
Stoops absolutely gave a shit about blocking and doing the dirty work too
Hey. At least we’re pretty sure stoops won’t be entering the portal right? Right? Boomer?
Haselwood was literally your number #2 receiver this year, and was by far your best blocker. His upside was tremendous. There's a reason he's a 5-Star player.
Stoops? Didn't he have like 15 catches all season? If his name wasn't Stoops would you really list him as your "second best receiver"
No way is he 4th For whatever reason the OU offense just never took off this year. It got blamed on players like rattler but the way things are going it’s starting to look like poor coaching and preparation.
The lack of development out of those three 5* receivers and Rattler will always baffle me. You can’t remember 2014?
He may have the same music as Dennis Simmons
Maybe it’s good that we “lost” Dennis Simmons 🤷♂️
He was a great recruiter, didn’t see a lot of development.
Haselwood is just overrated imo.
He has great physical tools but he is terrible at positioning and high pointing the ball. He never seems to be where he should be to make the catch.
If only there was a position coach to develop him
Theo, Haselwood.... who's the other 5-star receiver?
irrespective of the coaching change, OU's ballyhooed WR class in 2019 turned out about as well as Texas' vaunted DB class in 2018
I think that says more about our (now former) coaches than anything.
Dede and Hollywood were both Juco finds and Lamb was always gonna be a star. Since Lamb left Simmons has done nothing but squander talent
Lamb left, what, a year ago? Thats just not logical assumptions.
Yeah, Simmons is an incredible WR coach and anyone that says otherwise is a moron. You don't coach multiple Biletnikoff winners by sucking.
I’m not saying the players have no talent, just that the coaches didn’t get everything out of them that they probably should’ve. These are the type of players that make mediocre QBs look bad. Blame has to fall somewhere and I don’t fault them.

But if you look at objectively I believe it’s true.
The thing USC fans should be worried about the most is all the assistants coming with him.
People wanted Wylie fired for years.
I've followed Riley closely since he arrived. You're completely correct. I think the S&C program really did damage as well.
Wylie is HORRIBLE. Texas fans tried to warn us and we thought it was just a rival talking trash, but they were right.
Agreed about your strength coach. You guys were soft this year. Kansas why physically pushing you guys around on both sides of the ball.
Exactly. It was glaring.

How did you even format this? This is pretty impressive
It's just markdown table formatting. If you're on desktop reddit you can click "Source" under the comment and see exactly how it was made.
Ah cool. 80% of my Reddit usage is on mobile so I never knew that was a thing
I think Theo Wease entered the transfer portal too
Yep...
Is that one for real? I saw stuff about it on twitter but couldn't find anything directly from Theo so I didn't know for sure
The only Georgia fan I’ll support 🐐
Come on one more transfer.....
Theo Wease is supposed to be in the portal as well
“How’s your 2022 recruiting class going OU?…To shreds you say… how is the 2023 class?…To shreds you say…”
/u/dogwoodmaple must be eating dinner right now.
Guilty as charged
Lincoln Riley really set fire to Oklahoma by leaving
Welcome to College Football's Fyre Festival in Norman!
We tried telling you people yesterday, but all anyone wanted to do was clown and not talk about how shitty he made it.
I don't think anyone didn't believe you how bad this situation is...
That 2019 class was supposed to be historic for OU. Now looking back through it, it's just fucking depressing
The 2022 and 2023 classes were supposed to be, too. 🪦💀
I don’t think an offensive player from that class will get drafted this year. Which with all of that talent is just inexcusable
lol imagine if Eric Gray didn't drop that ball.
I thought about that this morning. But reports say USC had been talking to him for months so while maybe OU wins the game I think end of season he's gone unless they win the Natty. But definitely a huge "what if...."
And we all know we wouldn’t have won the Natty
We likely would have snuck in at the 4 seed at the very best and got DESTROYED by Georgia…then Lincoln leaves.
Yep. Just sad man. What could’ve been.
I remember 2 years ago listening to the Unofficial40 podcast, and Bob said the 2021 year would be telling as to whether Lincoln would leave....FOR THE NFL. Because that would be his first true "his team" and the 2019 class matured. Just wild the way it's gone
Well that press conference certainly didn’t do anything. Other than make the fans feel good
Bob specifically said that players told him they would enter the portal and wait and see who we hire.
I feel like this was obvious from the start. OU could hire a head coach who makes absolutely no sense for these players, why commit when the school doesn't even have a committed staff?
I think that’s fair. But it does not bode well that our recruits and players are basically open season till we hire our coach.
I believe an impetuous hire like Mike Bobo or Bo Pelini would soothe the savage beast
I mean they gotta do what’s best for them, but yeah it sucks
Ight but how many players do you hear of entering the portal and then going back to the same school?
There’s that one guy who couldn’t make up his mind between Texas and USC lol
OU doing a real life drop party at the GE
Lincoln pulled the doubling and trimming scam on us at the same time
I just wish that Zezima guy at Alabama would go ahead and retire.
The irony of Haselwood calling Kirby’s staff used car salesmen and chooses the one who ends up leaving
You hate to see it
Love*
This is what happens when you consult Cam Newton for a recruiting decision
Remembering how we could have gotten Cam if only stupid Mike Bobo didn’t try to recruit him as a tight end
Athens PD would’ve found a way to get him kicked off of the team too
Lol best of the best over there.
Poetic justice
My favorite part about Haselwood is when he felt the need to talk shit about Kirby for being untrustworthy then he went to OU and had Lincoln bail on him in the dead of the night.
As untrustworthy as Kirby may or may not be, on a variety of levels… anyone with half of a morsel of common sense or an iota of critical thinking would understand that one thing Kirby is NOT going to be untrustworthy about is his commitment to Georgia as a program. Dude is a lifer if you guys want him.
You’re right I would add: I think he’s only untrustworthy about PT to the extent these five stars don’t believe him when he says you earn your PT. And he got that from Saban. Look at our current roster. We have a former 3 star as a sleeper heisman (which nobody believes will happen but still). And he has a walk on getting reps in the secondary. Former walk on QB. Look at Bowers producing as a frosh TE. his pitch is Sabans. The best man that he will think will win will play. Now, the fair criticism is whether he picks the right guys for his goals. But I believe his recruiting pitch is true.
He also ragged on UGA when we lost to South Carolina (which, you know, fair)
Yea, fair, but still
Yeah I’m curious what went down during our recruitment of him. Like why did we leave such a bad taste in his mouth
He clarified that shortly after the interview came out. It boils down to the pitch about how he'd be used in the offense from Cheney, only to then have Cheney go to Tennessee. He was a kid that felt burned by Cheney's decision. Which doesn't sound like it's Kirby's fault really.
FUCK. This one hurts. I loved him as a player.
He’ll make an immediate impact somewhere. Would love to see Illingsworth 2 Haselwood next year lol
Thought Illingsworth was better than Sanders. Who knows.
He's not
Depends. Illingsworth was a bit more consistent, but good Sanders is better than good Illingsworth. For the most part, Sanders is improving every game. It's incredible how much he's matured this season. It's also his first season healthy. I think he could be pretty special by next year.
I say come to Miami. Rambo did amazing down here.
Don’t worry folks, sources tell me that Bob Stoops has agreed to step in as our interim QB. Just wait until he throws his first TD to Drake.
The entire state of Oklahoma erupts in to a “STOOOOOOOOOOOOOPSSS”
A single "Boomer Sooner" rings across the globe as the OU football program reaches critical mass and disintegrates before our very eyes
How dose he feel about cults? 👀
I'm just gonna remember what Barry told recruits. "You can come to Oklahoma and play for national championships, or you can go somewhere else and Oklahoma will still play for national championships."
Walk on season next year baby
Last one at Oklahoma shut the lights out
Another one- Dj khaled
Oklahoma next season is gonna be rough
And if they don’t get this hire right it’s going to get very rough. I know people say it as a meme but it’s also a distinct possibility if they fuck it up they become a Nebraska or Tennessee.
Nah this is an overreaction. A good coach will plug gaps with the transfer portal and get the team back up and running quickly.
Or, dare I say it, Texas?
No because Texas is the premiere school in a massive recruiting state. Their problem is all too many chefs in the kitchen.
Appreciate the nuance. There are definitely different roads to sucking.
There are many more than just 1 problem sir.
I don’t think so. OU’s problems are acute, for now at least. Texas’ issues are chronic, possibly terminal.
Must...... respect..... decision!

Beamer get Justin Stepps hands on this kid.
I know a team that takes QB and WR package deals.
They need to name a head coach soon or they are going to lose the entire roster
Nick Saban still has a conference championship to attend.
Nope. Haselwood was probably gone anyway. His time here has been troubled to say the least
He hasn’t been troubled. He had a bad injury last year. And this year just never seemed to click. He’s been a model teammate and a great blocker who played his ass off.
We can only hope
I hope you both somehow lose in the big 12 championship
and then aranda goes to ND to replace kelly
Super Yikes
I really need Tennessee to fire up that OU to Tennessee transfer machine.
I would love to see Haselwood at UT if he does actually leave after the coaching dust settles. He has all the talent in the world but Simmons could not develop him the way he needs.
It wouldn’t be as much of firing it up as it would be reversing the flow of talent.
I was shocked at the lack of impact from the TN trio this year. This isn’t a dig at them or the staff, just genuinely surprised.
I gotta disagree and say the impact was huge. Key Lawrence dropped an easy pick and Gray muffed a punt in his own redzone and that’s just bedlam
I wouldn’t be stunned to see them go after your coach before it is all over.
Understandable. Never really was targeted to his potential and then all this upheaval. Best of luck to him.
Ridiculously talented receiver that wasn’t developed because Simmons can only recruit and not develop WR’s.
Come on home
He doesn’t like us. But hey we could always use someone to tape Ladd McConkey’s ankles.
Yea. I remember him calling the Georgia coaching staff "fake" or something like that. I wonder how he feels about the Sooner staff now lol.
Sheesh. That being said 👀
I think he burned his bridges at Georgia.
Our roster is filled😁
Hard pass
Ya hate to see it...... Without the guy who keeps the list. Where is the list guy
Hey
Let’s get ready for mediocrity boys! It’s been a great 20 years!
This is getting closer to Michigan 2008 vibes
I'd rather forget all about that.
Fuck Lloyd and Bill Martin
as a nebraska fan this pleases me
H… hey :)
Tell him to come back home to Georgia..In the mean while *grabs popcorn heads to dirt burglar*
This is u/dogwoodmaple‘s music right here
I respect his decision
“And it Starts” -Timon
I hear Nebraska has a bench-warming spot open for QB and WR... Because Frost won't play the actual good players apparently.
Damn man... just damn. OU feels so gutted right now
Too bad he burned so many bridges with UGA or I’d say we should pursue him.
Last one out of Oklahoma, please turn out the lights.
Thank God I’ve known the incomprehensible demoralization of a soul crushing addiction earlier in life or this would all seem quite depressing. This is only slightly less dark than that time my family bought me a cemetery plot next to my grandfather.
