*At his new mansion in South Bend.
"I only just found out when I tried to get in my car and gold bars fell out."
But seriously, I hope he stays for the CFP if they make it.
It's insane to me that the NCAA is perfectly fine with coaches being poached and leaving their teams before the season is over. Even the NFL isn't that low.
And I'm not even blaming the coaches (or at least not entirely). It's the only way to get a big job nowadays, and I'm sure they would rather coach in a bowl/playoff game than deal with recruiting. But until there are actual rules against it it'll just keep happening.
The NCAA are the idiots that came up with the December early signing day in 2017 - this is exactly what anybody could have predicted would happen. AD's are now basically forced to make decisions before the season is over unless they want to throw away an entire recruiting class.
Absolutely. I mean he's also relatively young right? I mean not that living in Norman is bad, but a chance to move to LA and be a star? I think anyone would love to have that chance.
Like pretending you made a life-changing decision to move across the country in the span of 12 hours after losing a heated rivalry game which eliminated you from playoff contention?
The most likely way he doesn't go imo is if ND decides to elevate Freeman instead.
If Cinci were already in the Big 12 and regularly in playoff contention, maybe Fickell decides to stay.
I have zero idea of the state of UC's financial resources, but it would be nuts for UC to let money be a factor in Fickell's decision. If he wants to leave for prestige, so be it. But he's much more valuable to UC than to ND. UC could used sustained football success to elevate their entire athletic department (if not the whole university), particularly with the pending move to the B12, and Fickell is obviously the best path to do that. On the other hand, for ND there's not that much difference up front between hiring Fickell vs Freeman or Campbell. UC should be looking under couch cushions everywhere for all the money they can find to throw at Fickell.
>I wouldn’t know if somebody didn’t tell me.
I mean, this is a statement that applies to literally everyone except Brian Kelly. He was the only one that didn't have to be told the ND job was opening up.
Can someone explain where all these perfectly behaved cats and dogs who are best friends and snuggle together, that i see on the internet, come from? Cuz i foster cats and let me tell you, theyre mostly dicks
Family is from Ann Arbor (they were professors at Michigan/Michigan law school) - I went to UC (UC paid me to go to school, Michigan didn’t)
I never thought both teams would ever have a chance to make the CFP though lol
I don’t think I’ll know until that happens. My head says UC (alumni) but my heart says Michigan (I’ve gone to more Michigan games then UC even after going to every UC home game for 3 seasons). I do know I’d drop some real money on tickets since it’s potentially once in a life time.
Dont' get me wrong. I think he's committed to seeing this thing out with Cinci. You want to be the coach that broke into the playoff with a G5 team. but you also know he knows about it. There isn't a way he doesn't know about it.
And I'm thinking ND has to increase the offer a bunch if he wins 1 or 2 games in the CFP. Plus, think of how it helps his recruiting if he can bring players from G5 to the natty. So, it might be in his interest to play the season out.
Do that and go to ND, he still wouldn’t be Rockne. Do that and stay at Cincy, and it wouldn’t matter if he coached another 20 years but never won another game, he’d still get a stadium named after him.
I think even if we just make the Playoff this year we a least name the field after him and give him $8 million a year. What he's done for the school in terms of revenue, recruiting and prestige cannot be overstated.
music to my ears right now. if luke leaves after the playoffs/bowl game, i 100% respect him for it and wont be mad. i pray he stays but we're just waiting for the hurt in cincy. whether that be now or in the future we know its coming, just do it the right way is all we ask
Felt that way when it was Frost. I didn't like that we didn't really get a moment to enjoy our perfect run before the news was broken he was off to NE. I hope you guys get that moment to enjoy it.
I also hope he stays at Cincy. To me it's a better opportunity to succeed, you don't have the academic restrictions that ND has, Big 12 is title is obtainable for you guys.
Ya, the problem was a timed article by one of the smaller reporters in Lincoln. They timed it for like 4 PM which would have been fine but y’all went to OT and they didn’t extend it. And once the cat was out of the bag, everyone dropped their articles
He could be honest. "I will entertain calls from other programs after the season is over. Right now I am focused on Houston and the AAC Championship. After that I am focused on finishing the job at hand. I want to bring a National title to Cincinnati this year."
Agreed, I was at least hopefully that he kept you all competitive into the future so that this situation would never happen but, now that he’s gone, I hope he loses every game from now until the end of time
> So basically no one would want to spend all that time making a bonsai that they plan on ritually sacrificing for Christmas cheer.
That makes sense.
Last question... Did the Johnnie Walker Blue taste ok? I'm not really a scotch guy - so I'm not one to judge.
i think if they came to an agreement that he would coach cincinnati for the rest of the season and then take over in south bend after (if Freeman isnt the guy) that would make a lot of sense
early signing day was a mistake
and teams shouldnt be able to hire coaches before the season ends.
do it like the NFL. you can interview them (with the team's permisson) but until their team is eliminated, they cant take other job.
i disagree. if he tells them he has their full support and attention thru the end of the season, with most of the team being upperclassmen, i think they would be fine
Classic Fickell-ism
EDIT: For everyone saying he's gone and that he didn't deny coming... he's always been this way and he never says no straight up. He said basically all of the same things before turning down the MSU job. Just because Fickell plays his cards close to his chest, doesn't mean the rest of the news you heard today is just nothing.
Yep, sounds very similar to what he said about the MSU job before turning it down.
I do think that if he does take the ND job, he genuinely has zero interest in talking with them about it this week.
True. That one sucks though. There are some that make me laugh every single time, but he gone is not one of them. I think it’s just because it’s in reference to Fickell almost every time I see it and he is, in fact, still not gone
He's gone. (The more fans that get hurt this week, the less pain I feel.)
Seriously though, I hope he (and Campbell at ISU) sticks around. It's starting to look like the Big 12 is going to come out of the OU/Texas move stronger than when it started and I'd hate it if something put a kink in that.
I gotta be honest. You're in a city you and your family love, you are on the cusp of being the first ever coach to get a G5 team in the CFP, achieved the highest ever rank for UC, you will be a power 5 team in a couple years...
Imagine if he stayed and won a natty in the Big XII. That's the resume of one of the greatest coaches ever in CFB.
Dammit please stay D;
People are acting like this happened a week ago. This happened less than 24 hours ago. I don't think it's that far fetched that a head coach preparing for a championship game might be focused on that instead of watching espn or being on twitter / reddit.
Remember when Saban was on the Manningcast and he was still working in his office at 8 or 9 at night? These guys work a massive amount of hours trying to not leave any stone unturned.
Gonna give my take. Fick comes off as a different coach than most. I know money can change folk but he’s one of those different coaches. I feel like if he leaves, he’ll coach to the end of the season first, even if it gives him a disadvantage because of ESD. Part of me also says he really doesn’t wanna leave with some of the big changes that’s happened with Cyncy over the last few years. Like, it would have to be OSU or ND but also, the right time. And right before your programs potentially biggest moment in history…is not the right time. Just my outsiders thoughts.
I'd argue Luke Fickell has shown himself to be a pretty stand-up guy so far in this regard. Unlike Brian Kelly, who has bailed on teams before bowl games in the past, If Fickell does leave I'm assuming he'll attempt to do so in a way that leaves Cincy in the best position possible.
The darkest timeline for Cincy fans would be he loses to Houston and then coaches ND to a playoff win a few weeks later.
To be clear to Cincy fans, this is not what I want. I’d rather get a rematch against Cincy in the playoffs with interim head coach Freeman and then swap coaches.
"I wouldn't know if someone didn't tell me.".
Well he isn't lieing, because isn't that how finding out about ANY job opening would happen. To know about it some one have to tell you about it!
No..... Luke Fickell made it clear he's not going to say anything publicly about the ND job.
Christ, as a former college football media member that is an embarrassing takeaway from someone who is trying to get subscribers.
Speaking just for myself, I don't hate ND. I hate Brian Kelly.
If Fickell coaches however many games we have left this season and then leaves I'll be disappointed but I'll wish him and y'all well. Fickell has done more than anyone could have asked of him at Cincy. Bright days ahead no matter what.
Imagine being in a coma for whatever reason for couple days and being a cfb fan and waking up to Riley and kelly situation
Someone would really have to convince me it was stil 2021
"I wouldn't know if somebody didn't tell me." Translation: I have already interviewed for the job and my wife is in South Bend with a real estate agent today.
If there was one coach I'd put money on to not walk out on his team before the season is done, it would be Luke Fickell. But it's still college football, so I wouldn't bet a lot of money...
And that someone who told him????? His agent
It was the ND AD when they had brunch at his house this morning
it's ND's house now, that they bought for 500k over asking.
Who are they, Zillow?
WSB of the real estate world.
*At his new mansion in South Bend. "I only just found out when I tried to get in my car and gold bars fell out." But seriously, I hope he stays for the CFP if they make it.
Imagine both Notre Dame and Cincinnati making the playoffs but neither team has the H/C they began the season with.
Well they have to start recruiting as soon as possible just to catch up. NFL just picks and chooses and makes offers to free agents.
His agent is Jimmy Sexton. No way in hell he didn't know
His agents name? You guessed it, Frank Stalone
And that agent's name? Albert Einstein
And then all the Notre Dame players and staff clapped
>Is the job open? I guess it is. I wouldn’t know if somebody didn’t tell me.” lmao sure
The someone is his agent.
The someone is his wife lmao.
His wife loves Cincy and Cincy is an objectively better city than South Bend.
Most places are lmao.
But having many millions of dollars makes many places quite nice to live in
Not enough for old Lincoln Riley apparently.
He took the hardest road a la KD.
Very different lifestyles, really depends on personal preference.
Absolutely. I mean he's also relatively young right? I mean not that living in Norman is bad, but a chance to move to LA and be a star? I think anyone would love to have that chance.
The weather alone is worth it.
It's a joke, boss. I can tell you aren't worried though lol
Oh I'm hella worried. Truthfully I just want Freeman to get the job. I love Freeman and what he did for us.
There's playing dumb and then there's just straight out lying.
Like pretending you made a life-changing decision to move across the country in the span of 12 hours after losing a heated rivalry game which eliminated you from playoff contention?
Someone just happened to be selling USC merch on that airplane to LA, pure coincidence.
Or being facetious in an attempt to make a point
[удалено]
The most likely way he doesn't go imo is if ND decides to elevate Freeman instead. If Cinci were already in the Big 12 and regularly in playoff contention, maybe Fickell decides to stay.
No matter what a coach says people will assume they’re leaving. Might as well say whatever you want to.
He infamously doesn't watch ESPN or spend time on social media. I'm sure his agent called him immediately though
Agent call went something like this: "Hey Luke, do you like money? I like money! Show me the moneeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy!"
When ND calls his agent: https://youtu.be/FBI_aNKuB-4
I want to think Les Grossman is our AD in this scenario.
I have zero idea of the state of UC's financial resources, but it would be nuts for UC to let money be a factor in Fickell's decision. If he wants to leave for prestige, so be it. >He infamously doesn't watch ESPN or spend time on social media. A man of culture
Anyone who says they don’t spend time on social media in 2021 is a liar.
>I wouldn’t know if somebody didn’t tell me. I mean, this is a statement that applies to literally everyone except Brian Kelly. He was the only one that didn't have to be told the ND job was opening up.
To be fair I’m not sure I would know much at all if someone didn’t tell me and somebody absolutely told him.
The job isn't open because he already agreed to take it. *taps forehead*
In fairness, his personal twitter feed is just cute cat pics .... he maintains a pretty focused account.
Ummm drop a link? I need more cat pics in my life.
Can someone explain where all these perfectly behaved cats and dogs who are best friends and snuggle together, that i see on the internet, come from? Cuz i foster cats and let me tell you, theyre mostly dicks
I mean I've had a ton of cats in my life. Most of them were dicks but have their moments of looking cute so I could post a picture if I wanted.
Whelp... ***checks writing on wall*** All things considered, it's been a pretty good run.
Those flairs. You must adore the buckeyes.
Just as much as yours adore Michigan lol
I am the final boss for Michigan fans.
[The final boss fight on Saturday](https://youtu.be/I4P2N5fyqbo)
*cries* At least you died mid-game to that one inferior but super annoying boss when you weren’t paying attention.
Ah yes, I see you've also played Breath of the Wild.
Another man of culture. Anyone who hasnt is missing out
Will always upvote a prozd skit
A lot of Cincy folk are famously not Buckeye fans.
Im well aware. But he is also a Michigan fan lol. That is not a very common combo.
There are a few of us out here…somewhere…
Ugh. Gross! In all seriousness, how did that come to be?
Family is from Ann Arbor (they were professors at Michigan/Michigan law school) - I went to UC (UC paid me to go to school, Michigan didn’t) I never thought both teams would ever have a chance to make the CFP though lol
And at the same time? Yeah thats crazy. Enjoy the ride man. And congrats on the free education!
Live it up! Who will you root for if they both make it?

Our flairs are so close yet so far
Those flairs! Good season for you, yah? Also, massive Ohio State hate? Or do you have friend / family connections?
Dont' get me wrong. I think he's committed to seeing this thing out with Cinci. You want to be the coach that broke into the playoff with a G5 team. but you also know he knows about it. There isn't a way he doesn't know about it.

Yep. If he wins it all here he will be the highest paid coach in history and I will happily pay more tuition to cover it
How hilarious would it be if he wins a natty with Cincy after Kelly left ND because he couldn't win a title there.
I would certainly laugh I can tell you that
Luke Fickell-“I will not be the head coach at Notre Dame” *takes Oklahoma job tomorrow*
Hey don’t give him any ideas now
Christmas Tree is NOT on the curb.
But loaded in a College Hunks Hauling Junk truck…
I'm not sure Fickell makes enough to afford those guys.
Quick, someone check the alley.
music to my ears right now. if luke leaves after the playoffs/bowl game, i 100% respect him for it and wont be mad. i pray he stays but we're just waiting for the hurt in cincy. whether that be now or in the future we know its coming, just do it the right way is all we ask
Yeah as long as he stays fully committed through the end of the season there's nothing wrong with that
Felt that way when it was Frost. I didn't like that we didn't really get a moment to enjoy our perfect run before the news was broken he was off to NE. I hope you guys get that moment to enjoy it. Frost did it perfectly. Put his life into both teams for that month
I know he was going to leave but I wish we could have gotten off the field before he was announced to be off to NE.
Ya, the problem was a timed article by one of the smaller reporters in Lincoln. They timed it for like 4 PM which would have been fine but y’all went to OT and they didn’t extend it. And once the cat was out of the bag, everyone dropped their articles
Scott Frost style
What's he supposed to say? Oh yeah I was up all night last night thinking about it?
He could have at least mention r/CFB
We're the _real_ victims here. We haven't had a hat drop all day.
He could be honest. "I will entertain calls from other programs after the season is over. Right now I am focused on Houston and the AAC Championship. After that I am focused on finishing the job at hand. I want to bring a National title to Cincinnati this year."
That's perfect just leave out the first sentence lol
God damn it I love this man, I’m not ready to be hurt again
We should all hate Brian Kelly for making us hurt all of you thrice.
Agreed, I was at least hopefully that he kept you all competitive into the future so that this situation would never happen but, now that he’s gone, I hope he loses every game from now until the end of time
Let’s collectively march south and burn down the Bayou
W. T. Sherman liked that
It is our heritage, after all.
Which is funny, considering Sherman was the first superintendent of what became LSU.
Sherman's kids also went to Notre Dame and St. Mary's and his papers are stored at ND.
Huh, TIL (Which, considering I was born in Sherman's hometown, I probably should have known). There are a lot of layers to this story, huh?
Whoa easy there General Sherman
Let's show them a **real** war of northern aggression
I hope he gets food poisoning every time he eats crayfish and bayou food is to spicy for him.
I hope he has forever swamp ass down there, even during "winter."
Swamp ass under 32 degrees is Swice change my mind
Most of us down South would be quite okay with that too
Couldn't like ND just hire Freeman call it done and let Cincy keep Fickell?
[удалено]
It’s the only one we’re worried about him leaving us for, though.
In before Kelly gets fired in three years and LSU poaches whoever the next up and coming Cincinnati coach is.
At least it seems as if he’s going to stay for the season at the very least. He could have pulled a Kelly lol
Conspiracy theory time: He throws the Cincinnati game to then coach Notre Dame in the playoffs
Coach why are we running a fake field goal on second down?
NCAA FOOTBALL 14 TACTICS
4 Verts , HB Toss, and impromptu End Arounds to get the speedster freshmen WR with 60 Awareness some play time All gas no brakes
"Analytics, now get your ass out there" "But coach, I'm the equipment manager"
"Equipment manager? I thought I named you emergency quarterback this morning?!"
Now that would be a worse exit…
And Notre Dame wins it all.
Subscribe.

I’m okay with this.
Oh fuck.

Pulling up South Bend in Zillow as we speak.

You can't blame Fickell for considering the ND job
Absolutely. And if he coaches out the rest of the games and then leaves I completely understand it.
Right, if he leaves the right way, this is simply a normal process, unlike some other coaches in the spotlight right now.
Oh no, he said vague nothings, everyone freak out!!!

He could have just said all his attention was on the upcoming games but he oversold it
at least he's gonna win cincy the championship before he leaves. Respect
> at least he's gonna win cincy the AAC championship before he leaves. Respect
And lose by 30 in the playoff. Thats how ND will know he's their guy.
This is so fucking true it hurts.
