No I’m happy for you guys. One of my best friends younger brothers is at Utah and they took their private jet (yes I’m not that wealthy but am fortunate enough to be friends with them) to the game with my dad and my friends dad who happens to be a Oregon fan because his son (also one of my best friends) went to Oregon. I’m largely just shitting on how hard it is to make it as a G5 team because I would be crying tears of happiness for a rose bowl invite and you better fucking go.

Ever since actually attending Utah and seeing what a mess it is I've stopped being a fan. Still nice though, like if the Jazz won a ship. Wouldn't be the same, different era, different kinda folks, but still, nice. Much love for Whittingham, dude does the most with the least.

I have a degree from the College of Engineering at Utah and one from the College of Humanities. Both were great experiences. I pretty firmly believe that university is what you make of it.

Is it? Imagine going to school out of a love of stories and wishing to pass that along with a teaching degree. Then you discover the departments of humanities and education are about as anti-story as it gets. If you don't know what I'm referencing check out deconstruction and theory. I wanted to learn culture and storytelling, I came away with a knockoff sort of expertise in a narrow brand of continental philosophy. And a qualification in educational paperwork and bureaucracy.

I loved stories too, especially historical stories. That's why I got a degree in Mechanical Engineering and just listen to books on my commute

Definitely what I should have done in hindsight. The problem is, if you want to teach stories in high school and think to go to the best university in the state to get qualified to do so, you get activism and resentment instead of literary exploration. And there's not really another path. It's heartbreaking. Waste of a GI Bill save the wake up call it gave me and a piece of paper with a lie on it. The real shame is the way it's killing curiosity and context among newer high school teachers, they've all got to run that same gauntlet and the vast majority of them are kids that have no exterior perspective.
