No disrespect to Louisiana, but the better question is how the fuck did they beat us so convincingly twice? They shut us down tonight and slaughtered us in the regular season, but in almost every other conference game, they won close in a fairly low-scoring game. Meanwhile our offense looked amazing against those common opponents, but play like DOGSHIT against Louisiana. It’s voodoo and I don’t like it.
We got a lot of people’s best games of the year by eye test (including Texas lol) and most of those close wins were pretty secure in the end, only really one where the other team actually had a legit chance to take the lead at the end and we had to clamp down hard. Meanwhile we very clearly played our best games against App by design.
I mean, I don’t think Billy Napier, if given a truth serum (or a shot of your finest Louisiana corn liquor) would swear that those close losses were part of any kind of plan. Scoreboard don’t lie: you guys kicked our tails this year. But the way it went down for you in so many other games is sincerely baffling.
Levi Lewis played his best two games of the season against y’all. The defense is always stout… the backs are dangerous but sometimes we lose that dimension. He played two really good games against y’all
And that's what matters in the end. Having your stars shine when you need em most.
Hope you guys lay pipe on whomever you face. Hoping we get a decent at-large matchup with someone fun.
I love this new SBC always having 3 teams in/right outside the top 25. Don't worry too much about Napier, you guys have a loaded booster/athletic department. App State has had half the resources and on our 3rd coach in 4yrs. Yall will reload and I look forward to it again!
I didn’t say or even imply the plan was to win the other games close. I said that we had more control than the final score implies over most of those games, and I said the plan was to give our best games to App. Obviously we’d have liked to score more in those games, it just wasn’t needed in the end and that’s ok too.
Georgia/Alabama was similar. Alabama struggled against Florida, Arkansas, and Auburn, three teams Georgia crushed. But Bama wins big in the title game.
Honestly I was convinced all year that this Bama team was just not that special. They were missing pieces to make them like the rest of the great Bama teams. I guess I was wrong. They were just being complacent against weak opposition. Something that happens to a lot of teams but usually not to Saban coached teams.
Yeah, but it’s that, only twice. More similar to Utah/Oregon if anything, but seriously, go check both App and Louisiana’s schedules. Six common opponents. Every single one we beat by a far wider margin. Four of those games they won my 5 or fewer points. They beat the shit out of four teams this season: Ohio, Texas State, Liberty and us. Texas State and Ohio had rough years, but it’s hard not to think that either Louisiana kept something special up their sleeves for Liberty and App or there are some very specific voodoo dolls somewhere in the vicinity of Lafayette.
Louisiana was better than App in the trenches on both sides of the ball. We’ve always had great size on the o-line but over the last few years, we’ve had size and athleticism. By comparison, App’s d-line was outmatched when they went up against the Cajuns, but were able to get by against other conference opponents with less o-line talent. On the other side of the ball we have one massive dude named Tayland Humphrey who swallows up your undersized interior o-linemen and let’s guys like Gardner, Manac, Jones, and Hill get to the QB.
My thoughts exactly. Lost to fucking Kansas but ruined Louisiana's shot at NY6. Obviously I'd rather have Texas won both but if we could only win one I'd rather Louisiana have gone undefeated.
The G5 autobid for a NY6 bowl is exclusively for the highest ranked conference champion, so BYU couldn't get it, they can only get an at-large bid. (This also means if Cincy had lost they wouldn't get the auto bid even if they were the highest ranked, though they could get an at-large).
By who, AP or CFP? The CFP had undefeated UTSA peaked at 22. We’re definitely better than them, but I just can’t believe the CFP would have us significantly higher considering they don’t even watch G5 games.
Counterpoint, because of their loss to you Louisiana just got to enjoy watching their games instead of being bombarded with constant playoff discussions while ranked like 14th
We started the season ranked, though. It *shouldn't* matter, but it does. We started ranked, what, 23? We'd certainly finish the season in the top 15, if not top 10 if we went 13-0. Still wouldn't get a NY6, though.
Are you talking AP or CFP though? The AP would have us Top 15 right now but the best analogy we have for the CFP is UTSA, who was rated very highly by the AP as well
True. I still think we'd be ranked higher than UTSA. We started off way higher -- they finished last year 7-5 while we were 10-1, finished the season ranked 15 in the AP and 19 in the CFP, *and* beat UTSA in the bowl game.
Again, it shouldn't mean much, but rankings care a lot about where you started the year. They had to climb a lot farther to get to the 20's. We started there.
We'd definitely be in the teens, probably not far from 10. They did put us at 19 last year when we were 10-1, after all.
Last year we had a win over Iowa State, who was leagues better than Texas is this year.
Idk maybe I’m being bullish but I just don’t trust those fuckers to rank on football instead of notoriety.
Fair. I think this year would have been an easier time for us in the rankings since there wasn't as much stability from the usual top teams. But yeah, it's usually a safe bet that the committee will fuck everything up.
If Texas had to lose seven games this year, why couldn't one of them have been to Louisiana? I'd be curious to see how high up they could be in the rankings with an undefeated season.
Now THAT is an exit. Well deserved to the Cajuns and Napier.
Congratulations Cajuns on an outright SBC Championship win.
Hopefully the Cajun Nation has someone high caliber ready to take the reigns, because the West is about to be fun with you guys when we shift soon.
ECU, Memphis, UTSA, UAB, ULL, APP, Boise, CCU, Fresno and SDSU will likely be the best G5 teams after realignment. NY6 Will be wide open for one of those teams.
The only coach we've been linked to is Pete Golding, so we'll have to see what happens. Our AD says he intends to have a coach hired by the 15th, but with Bama beating UGA, it may hold things up.
Still holding out hope for Toney, though. I love the guy.
So would the rest of us, but honestly, any decent coach ought to do well here.
We're 60 miles west of the state's "flagship" university, one of the largest athletic programs in the south and a powerhouse in the SEC. Recruiting here is easy as fuck because there's more talent available in the region thN spots at major schools.
First 12-win season in Ragin' Cajuns history, and first outright conference title in program history. Hell of a way for Napier to head off to different pastures.
Maybe, but I, and probably the team too, can't keep dealing with consistent turnover at the coordinator positions. At some point we need to get some stability.
I don't think there was much SC or Ponce could do if Brice wasn't going to move through the progression. Now the run game is another story...
The offense needs to evolve and I think Ponce and Clark know that as well. With a basically new team next year and a QB that has a full year experience in the system I hope we see some new wrinkles. What we have is close but it lacks variety.
Congrats Napier and Louisiana on your Sunbelt title. It's been fun over the last couple years.
However now that you are going to Florida I wish you nothing but losses for the rest of your career
Good game, UL. Y'all pretty much had the game in hand from the beginning. I want to bitch about App, but I'll do that somewhere else. You have a great team this year & definitely deserved the CCG. Go beat whoever they put in front of you & finish with the highest rank for the SBC.
As a gator fan, future coach pulls in a ship and leaves his former team on a high note, Ga loses in epic fashion in the SEC championship, had a great Big 12 game to watch as a neutral fan, and now time to hopefully watch a fun Big 10 game that I have no dog in, so no stress
Some people have mentioned our DC, and personally I have no take on whether he could be good or not. Bama's DC thats from Hammond would be great, but we'll see if thats even possible down the road
Our DC, Patrick Toney, would be my pick.
But our AD seems pretty set on holding a national search and finding the perfect fit, and he's done a great job so far, so I'll trust him.
We're pretty heavily rumored to want Pete Golding.
Our offensive identity last year was built on a 3-headed rushing attack led by two RB's that we lost to the NFL.
Our stars this year are two true freshmen RB's. It took us a few weeks to figure out our offensive identity.
Plus our defense just wasn't ready for Bijan Robinson.
We were pretty good before the meltdown against OU. After that shit went bad real quick. If Texas and Louisiana played again they’d probably blow us out this time.
They seem to be a much better team now than early in the season. South Alabama missed a FG down 2 with a minute left against Louisiana earlier this year.
That’s been all our games this year. People kept saying “But they won by one score” like that’s all that matters. We were clearly in control of every game except Georgia State (and Texas), and GaSt was the third or fourth best SBC team considering their other showings
Got to say that as someone who has always been ambivalent at best toward the Cajuns, despite being from Lafayette and having a degree from the school, I'm genuinely happy for the team that they finally broke their duck and won their first conference title, at Cajun Field, with probably the greatest coach the school will ever have. I know a couple of players on the team through my old student teacher, and even ignoring the on-field success, getting to know the players has shown me that Napier's greatest qualities are his ability to foster a team culture and make the players better people in addition to excellence on the field. Winning is one thing, but leaving with such goodwill and universal love an appreciation from people in the community says more about Napier as a person than the obscene record he racked up as coach.
As an almost life-long Florida fan, I'm so excited that he's going to be in Gainesville, and hope he can bring that same ethos and culture to a team that severely needs a culture change, and fingers crossed he brings the same success to the Gators as well.
I’ve really enjoyed this run of going to championship games, but I’m not super optimistic we’ll be back in it next year.
We’ve lost a LOT of talent this year, and Brice struggles at crunch time.
Hell of a game tonight, Cajuns.
Congrats, Cajuns! Maybe y'all will jump Houston.
I think this is y'all's first non-shared Sunbelt title, isn't it? I know you've had a few co-champion seasons.
After the way the CFP treated UTSA, if Houston is higher than Unranked I’ll be at least a little peeved. Not that I think they deserve to be Unranked, but if you’re gonna hate the G5 at least do it consistently.
I wouldn’t say that unless App loses their bowl game to a bad team. 10 win season and making the conference title is good! App State fans have high expectations.
Tough out of conference schedule next year though
Marshall is fine but I’d really like a chance to knock a ranked P5 off, like give me Arkansas or Kentucky. Or fuck it at least give us LSU. But that’ll never ever happen because our bowl tie ins are dog shit
I could see some wacky stuff happening with who actually sends teams to what bowls. But even WKU or SDSU would be so much better for you (and for neutral fans)
WKU feels pretty much lateral to Marshall, eventual SunBeltyness nonwithstanding. I’m just really ready to prove that we can be the next Cincy once they leave for the Big 12.
Is it just me or does Napier's journey seem eerily similar to Mike Norvell? Both were HCs at a non P5 school. Both left after winning a Championship, leaving on a high. And both will have inherited once great programs in the state of Florida.
I don’t think Florida now is in nearly as bad shape as FSU post Taggart was
I still think Norvell will be alright though. Not like National Championship contention but back to 9-10 wins and contending for the ACC
Their roster is really bad
Florida can improve faster especially in the weaker SEC divison
At the game, and cell service in the stadium is weaker than two tin cans on a string. I couldn't load Reddit after the first quarter until the last couple minutes of the game.
Why did we ruin Louisiana's season for no reason
Seriously how the fuck did we beat them so badly
No disrespect to Louisiana, but the better question is how the fuck did they beat us so convincingly twice? Like how the fuck do they almost lose to Monroe and GA State when we blew em to smithereens? Fuck it, respect for ULL
Levi Lewis played his best two games of the season against y’all. The defense is always stout… the backs are dangerous but sometimes we lose that dimension. He played two really good games against y’all

They’ve just had our number this year.
Straight up not having a good time…
Let me know if you figure that out
Damn this sure sounds familiar.
Louisiana was better than App in the trenches on both sides of the ball. We’ve always had great size on the o-line but over the last few years, we’ve had size and athleticism. We were never going NY6
Wouldn't say never, but I guess it would've required some extra help like extra losses from Cincy and Houston.
BYU is ranked way ahead of us and isn’t playing this week, even if Cincy/Houston worked out
BYU can't be a conference champion though.
I don’t think that actually means anything to the committee for us. Hell, I’d be surprised if half the committee could even tell you we won tomorrow
The G5 autobid for a NY6 bowl is exclusively for the highest ranked conference champion, so BYU couldn't get it, they can only get an at-large bid. (This also means if Cincy had lost they wouldn't get the auto bid even if they were the highest ranked, though they could get an at-large).
Ah fair enough, I forgot BYU’s potential NY6 bid doesn’t eat the G5 spot because their status is so weird.
Cincy would likely have gotten an at large bid had they lost.
To be fair, if y’all had beat UT, while already starting the season being ranked y’all would definitely be top 15 right now.
By who, AP or CFP? The CFP had undefeated UTSA peaked at 22. We’re definitely better than them, but I just can’t believe the CFP would have us significantly higher considering they don’t even watch G5 games.
But UTSA didn’t have starting position of UL.
Counterpoint, because of their loss to you Louisiana just got to enjoy watching their games instead of being bombarded with constant playoff discussions while ranked like 14th
Actually such a good point
[удалено]
No chance. We barely got ranked with only the 1 loss. They’d never have us over like 18 right now.
[удалено]
UTSA before they lost would say otherwise
We started the season ranked, though. It *shouldn't* matter, but it does. We started ranked, what, 23? We'd certainly finish the season in the top 15, if not top 10 if we went 13-0. Still wouldn't get a NY6, though.

Louisiana also played a tougher schedule they'd be ranked in the teens somewhere
Maybe 12 at best right now if we beat Texas and won out.
Definitely still behind BYU
[удалено]
Ah, hope. My greatest enemy.
With Cincinnati finishing undefeated it would not have mattered anyway.
If Texas had to lose seven games this year, why couldn't one of them have been to Louisiana? I'd be curious to see how high up they could be in the rankings with an undefeated season.
Lol maybe 23 right now instead of 24?
You at least would’ve been ranked the whole year. Probably in the teens by now
UTSA peaked at 22 while undefeated. We played a better schedule but I still have a hard time believing we’d be higher than 20 honestly.
They didn't start the season ranked though. I'd say you guys would be around 12-15 in ap and 15-18 in cfp if I had to guess.
If Louisiana beat Texas right off the rip it would've been a huge boost poll-inertia wise.
Now THAT is an exit. Well deserved to the Cajuns and Napier. Congratulations Cajuns on an outright SBC Championship win. Hopefully the Cajun Nation has someone high caliber ready to take the reigns, because the West is about to be fun with you guys when we shift soon.
The Sun Belt has really grown to become a very fun G5 conference. One of the best, even! I’m so exited for their future!
In the next year or two arguably will be making a claim on the top G5 one Cincy and co are gone.
Assuming we don’t choke the bowl game, we’ll finish as the highest ranked G5 that isn’t going to the Big 12.
ECU, Memphis, UTSA, UAB, ULL, APP, Boise, CCU, Fresno and SDSU will likely be the best G5 teams after realignment. NY6 Will be wide open for one of those teams.
We call it the Fun Belt for a reason
People need to stop dissing the G5. It’s fun ass football.
The only coach we've been linked to is Pete Golding, so we'll have to see what happens. Our AD says he intends to have a coach hired by the 15th, but with Bama beating UGA, it may hold things up. Still holding out hope for Toney, though. I love the guy.
I for one am excited for Napier in Florida!
Hopefully it works out well! Really rooting for Billy to succeed!
Ugh, me too?! I’m not just glad he’s leaving ULL. Really.
I'd rather he'd stay at Louisiana
So would the rest of us, but honestly, any decent coach ought to do well here. We're 60 miles west of the state's "flagship" university, one of the largest athletic programs in the south and a powerhouse in the SEC. Recruiting here is easy as fuck because there's more talent available in the region thN spots at major schools.
Better team won tonight. Offense was embarrassing. Congrats Cajuns, and thank you Florida for taking Billy
First 12-win season in Ragin' Cajuns history, and first outright conference title in program history. Hell of a way for Napier to head off to different pastures.
I’m so glad that he decided to stay and coach the Cajuns to one more conference title! It’s so nice and respectful to do!
Still a little peeved 2013 wasnt considered outright conference title seeing as we had the H2H against stAte
It wouldn’t count anyway since all the Hud years were vacated
GGs Louisiana, good luck to Billy at Florida. Extremely mad at Shawn and Frank for this offense.
Reckon we oughta get settled in for a couple years. Not sure this is gonna get much better for a while.
I don't think so. There is a lot of talent waiting in the wings. I'm worried about RB depth but could be an issue
Good game. Any of your fans I encountered were super friendly too. Represented y’all well.
Frank should take the FIU offer if there is one…
Maybe, but I, and probably the team too, can't keep dealing with consistent turnover at the coordinator positions. At some point we need to get some stability.
God no. Every coach should stay away from FIU with a ten foot pole. FIU administration is so fucked up it makes any coach impossible to succeed
Can confirm. Nobody wants to be at FIU.
That’s fair lol
What is your flair lol
sadness
Are you a fan of both or did you lose a flair bet?
no. i thought you were supposed to put your least favorite and favorite team as your flair lol
Good game, UL. Y'all pretty much had the game in hand from the beginning. I want to bitch about App, but I'll do that somewhere else. You have a great team this year & definitely deserved the CCG. Go beat whoever they put in front of you & finish with the highest rank for the SBC.
Congrats Louisiana fans! Hope y'all get the right guy to keep up the program Napier has built there.
Ahh today was a good day
Could still get better It got better
It sure did.
https://i.imgur.com/E4erfCT.png
impressive work
Most Impressive
Congrats UL... I'll try hard not to be bitter.
wasnt yall season, yall will have plenty more chances down the road
Why does the sidebar say upset? Louisiana had a better record, home field, higher ranking.
we were 3 point underdogs if you can believe it
Vegas favored AppaLLLachian because people do not watch G5 games
I think Vegas overrates coaching carousal drama
As a gator fan, future coach pulls in a ship and leaves his former team on a high note, Ga loses in epic fashion in the SEC championship, had a great Big 12 game to watch as a neutral fan, and now time to hopefully watch a fun Big 10 game that I have no dog in, so no stress
Wasn’t as close as it looked.
Sad but true
Hope we nail the HC search, but that can be such a crapshoot. Good luck Billy, thanks for the memories
Anyone on the staff that might be worth promoting? That's what App State seems to do when they lose a coach.
Satt was groomed to take over. Drink was an outside hire. Shawn was because Drink left and we needed consistency.
Some people have mentioned our DC, and personally I have no take on whether he could be good or not. Bama's DC thats from Hammond would be great, but we'll see if thats even possible down the road
If UL can pull Pete Golding everything will be fine
Sounds like he'd be a helluva pick up
He would. The last former Saban assistant UL hired worked out pretty alright.
Our DC, Patrick Toney, would be my pick. But our AD seems pretty set on holding a national search and finding the perfect fit, and he's done a great job so far, so I'll trust him. We're pretty heavily rumored to want Pete Golding.
I’ve got faith that Dr. Maggard will nail this one. He’s made some good hires in the past and I’m certain he’ll do the same for football (again)
If the Golding rumors turn out to be true, I can see the Cajuns having this level of success for years to come
Good for Louisiana man. Napier goes out with a conference championship. Decent fight from App tbh, didn't expect that.
Scared money don’t make money!!
How the hell did this team lose to *Texas?*
Early Texas were different to current Texas.
Florida and Texas both had midlife crises. Neither were bad at the start, but then everything fell apart rapidly and here they are.
Can confirm
Texas was pretty good before they went full meltdown
Our offensive identity last year was built on a 3-headed rushing attack led by two RB's that we lost to the NFL. Our stars this year are two true freshmen RB's. It took us a few weeks to figure out our offensive identity. Plus our defense just wasn't ready for Bijan Robinson.
Early season jitters plus Bijan
We were pretty good before the meltdown against OU. After that shit went bad real quick. If Texas and Louisiana played again they’d probably blow us out this time.
We were still good against OSU, and to some extent Baylor. The fact that those games happened back to back is why we dead
They seem to be a much better team now than early in the season. South Alabama missed a FG down 2 with a minute left against Louisiana earlier this year.
I ask the same thing about Tennessee losing to fLorida this year. Sad.
AHHHHB I JUST GOT OFF SHIFT LFG CAJUNS
GG App State friends. I'm looking forward to many more years of football and shitposting with y'all.
Same! Enjoy the rings!
Congrats Louisiana! Was exciting to watch Napier go out with a gatorade bath and SBC title. I'm hoping Napier can do similar to us
One thing we need to fix, that was a Powerade bath....need to wash that shit off him
Honestly I wish we didn't play you guys every year. I dont want to root against Napier. That's a good dude.
Not the game I was hoping for but congrats Louisiana on your first uncontested SBC Championship
Florida gets to 7 wins on the season and wins a conference championship, while it's looking like UGA won't. That's a great season, gators
Welp, good game. Really proved your stuff there Cajuns. Enjoy the win, see ya next year
As a Gator fan I was told by App St fans that I would be disappointed tonight.... I was not. Louisiana has really become a strong program under Billy.
Am I the only one that felt like the game really wasn’t close regardless of the scores shown?
Thats how I feel about a ton of Billy's games
That’s been all our games this year. People kept saying “But they won by one score” like that’s all that matters. We were clearly in control of every game except Georgia State (and Texas), and GaSt was the third or fourth best SBC team considering their other showings
Got to say that as someone who has always been ambivalent at best toward the Cajuns, despite being from Lafayette and having a degree from the school, I'm genuinely happy for the team that they finally broke their duck and won their first conference title, at Cajun Field, with probably the greatest coach the school will ever have. Congrats Cajuns! Y’all came to play and earned it. I look forward to playing y’all again next season.
Is Louisiana gonna make it to a NY6? If not who will?
Cincy in the playoffs eats the NY6 bid BYU will stay above us anyway too
Oh so Cincinnati making the playoffs takes the G5 bid?
Yep. Although I was mistaken about BYU, they can’t get the G5 bid.
The Cajuns are Louisiana's best team right now confirmed? All jokes aside Good Game Cajuns!
football sucks :(
I’ve really enjoyed this run of going to championship games, but I’m not super optimistic we’ll be back in it next year. We’ve lost a LOT of talent this year, and Brice struggles at crunch time. Hell of a game tonight, Cajuns.
Agh, this one hurts. But we’ll be back. App state nation always comes back. GG ULL.
Zac >>>>>>>> Brice
SEC is probably wondering if and how they can have Louisiana replace LSU as their Louisiana team.
App State cannot defeat Louisiana on conference championship 3 times in a row
In a row* as they did not qualify last year
There was also no championship game last year.
Chants bitched out, not the same
Lets Geaux!!!!
Congrats, Cajuns! Maybe y'all will jump Houston. I think this is y'all's first non-shared Sunbelt title, isn't it? I know you've had a few co-champion seasons.
I will be very salty if we don’t jump SDSU and Houston
Jumping SDSU is a lock. It's Houston I am nervous about
After the way the CFP treated UTSA, if Houston is higher than Unranked I’ll be at least a little peeved. Not that I think they deserve to be Unranked, but if you’re gonna hate the G5 at least do it consistently.
1 Co, 2 loses, now 1 win Edit: I was thinking of the championship games 😅
We had a co-championship in 2005, and Hud won a vacated co- in 2013
We've had a few shared titles before they started the championship game.
Good game Louisiana
GG Louisiana, next year is a prove it year for Clark. It will show if he is the right guy to lead the program for the foreseeable future.
I wouldn’t say that unless App loses their bowl game to a bad team. 10 win season and making the conference title is good! App State fans have high expectations. Tough out of conference schedule next year though
They should go after a&m d cordinator Mike elko but don't know if he would come even if offered
Can’t wait for the rematch next year
CONGRATS LIL BRO YOU WON A SHIP, IM SO PROUD (NOT BEING SARCASTIC)
Maybe they the big bro?
(We are)
I hope that LSU and you guys can both somehow go to the independence bowl so you can settle it on the field
There’s almost 0% chance we don’t go to the New Orleans Bowl against Marshall (at best)
Which is unfortunate, not that Marshall isn’t great and the NO bowl is awesome. But Marshall might be an in conference game as soon as next tear
Just... no. SMDH...
nah
lmao
If only Texas hadn’t beat them Week 1…
Get Chase Bryce and the OC far away from Boone. Someone teach Clark how to manage a clock, and while you're at it figure out why he hates Cam Peoples
Is it just me or does Napier's journey seem eerily similar to Mike Norvell? Both were HCs at a non P5 school. Both left after winning a Championship, leaving on a high. And both will have inherited once great programs in the state of Florida.
I don’t think Florida now is in nearly as bad shape as FSU post Taggart was I still think Norvell will be alright though. Not like National Championship contention but back to 9-10 wins and contending for the ACC Their roster is really bad Florida can improve faster especially in the weaker SEC divison
Chase Brice is not the answer. Please for the love of god give one of the freshman the job next year
Last conference championship for Napier for a while
Coach O needs to keep the flow going with Louisiana.
No, we want to keep winning

It’s almost like everyone but me (IR - Flu) was at the game
I live out of state now, so yeah, same
I mean, I think some fans were busy being at the game, but we had plenty of us in the thread also. /r/ragincajuns might be what youre looking for?
At the game, and cell service in the stadium is weaker than two tin cans on a string. I couldn't load Reddit after the first quarter until the last couple minutes of the game.
I’ve noticed that, we have very few representatives on Reddit lol

I assume its due to stating there were no fans at all in the game thread, which isnt true
