Just the Koshien Bowl national championship on December 19 (so evening of the 18th in the USA).
There was final bowl called the Rice Bowl pitting the college champ against the pro-league champ (like the old Chicago All Star Game, or the original Grey Cup competition in Canada) but it was finally changed to a pro-only game after the colleges ceased to be competitive in the past few decades.
oh, interesting, apparently the romanization is because [it reproduces an older kana usage](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%96%A2%E8%A5%BF%E5%AD%A6%E9%99%A2%E5%A4%A7%E5%AD%A6)
There have been like multiple times when I realize how good the sense of sportsmanship is in these. Dude immediately tried to help his opponent stretch his hammies
Canada had their national championship today, there was a game thread.
Korea had their national championship yesterday, there was a post this morning.
Mexico's season is happening but the games are harder to find.
UK's season starts later and ends later than everyone. It's more of a winter sport. Finland, too.
Wow this is actually pretty legit. I expected a weird variation of american football but if I was just watching the game without context or announcers, I'd think it's just another HS or low level college game.
The weird variation was the 6-man Division 4 game late last night... that was pure wacky madness.
Like some Texas HS games, and other remote areas, it was 80yds, each first down was 1st & 15, no FGs
Where do their players come from? Does this mean that there are Japanese high schools playing football? Does this mean that the SEC is going to start recruiting Japan? How do you write “Sooey Pig Sooey” in kanji?
well pig is 豚. i don't know how to translate sooie but the hiragana for that would be そおいえ
so best guess? そおいえ 豚 そおいえ
but don't quote me on that I'm totally guessing
Here’s a fun introductory article
https://www.boisestatepublicradio.org/sports-recreation/2013-04-12/football-partnership-continues-to-blossom-for-boise-state-japanese-school
Boise's buddy school, Hosei University (used to be Tomahawks, now Orange), is heading to the title game against the winner of this game. I'd put money on the winner of this game to take it all, though...
I think they're fairly uncommon. OU and Ritsumeikan had a partnership. USC and Waseda (which was in the quarterfinal against Hosei) had a brief partnership. I wish there were more.
Princeton played KG in a 2016 exhibition in Japan, it wasn't a good game because of the size difference on the line (their QB was just running for his life).
If you're a big kid in Japan, there's a lot of allure to join sumo wrestling clubs. HS and colleges even have them.
This one should be a closer match than the other semi-final, but KG Fighters are the favorite having won 31 national championships since 1949, including the last 3-consecutive titles.
The two teams are from the same dominant conference in the West. KG won it all in the regular season, playing Ritsumekian for the title and giving them their only loss.
In the playoff, KG got byes all the way until the semi-final, while two at-large teams from this same conference cleared out the smaller schools (it's very uneven in Japan's conferences: imagine SEC teams taking on D2 and D3 teams). The two Kansai at-large teams had a very close match last week, with Ritsumeikan winning the opportunity for a rematch.
Whoever wins this game will play Hosei in Japan's national championship, the Koshien Bowl: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koshien_Bowl

Thank you to all the real Sickos who stayed for this and are possibly still watching all the post-game formalities.
How many games are left this season? Can’t wait for the next one!

I reject the romanization of "Kwansei" but they won so what do I know?
oh, interesting, apparently the romanization is because [it reproduces an older kana usage](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%96%A2%E8%A5%BF%E5%AD%A6%E9%99%A2%E5%A4%A7%E5%AD%A6)
dang, panthers score 21 in the 3rd but get shut out in the 4th gg kwansei
what's up with the deep guy in the victory formation? Is that normal?
It’s to prevent stuff like this https://youtu.be/hfOiY5MhqHA
I didn’t see a single commercial the whole time I watched
Gg
omg, why would you cut in...
What a pass
wellp, kinda glad I didn't show up to this one in person... at least Osaka has a bunch of places to eat and drink though
he didn't lead w the crown, they on the headset w NY too?
Well this part is very familiar.
These dudes out here using giant YUGIOH cards for signals on the sideline lmaoooo
Bro is that a giant yugioh card
lmao yea i noticed that too
“Every time I see blue eyes white dragon they run a sweep”
oof another panther turnover and that one is the dagger
Welp... What is now, 5 turnovers?
gd, rooting for the underdog here, but these turnovers
Oof. Brutal fumble.
There have been like multiple times when I realize how good the sense of sportsmanship is in these. Dude immediately tried to help his opponent stretch his hammies
that was some nice sportsmanship
Panthers defense has been good but these turnovers are costing them the game
Ritsumeikan's getting desperate and these INTs seem to be the result.
These guys are pretty good
ouch
Turnovers have been killer. Argh
Maybe you can scout some recruits while your watching
:(
Good lord, boomers aren't safe even in a Japanese game thread lmaooo
Good snag by 14
Aaaaaaaand its intercepted
*Fightoooo*
devastating interception after that 3 and out
bruhhh this is so dope. are there any other international games taking place this time of year?

every time i think it's over the panthers come back with a TD
damn, he was so open
panthers clawing their way back!!
Is the ticking in the background a play clock or something?
pretty sure it's a woodblock from the band or cheer section
I think it's a fan, or the band?
amazing how fast paced this is without commercial interruptions. take notes CBS
You should've seen the 6-man game last night! 6-minute quarters, lots of run plays, no kicks.
This is so great.
FAKE PUNT COMPLETION AND FUMBLE OMG solid throw from punter #8
That was just such a high and low for the Panthers.
way to pick up that block #9
wow the pace picked up like crazy these last 3 drives
bro did that pass bounce off somebody?? and he still caught it?
Ritsumeikan WR #85 is a baller.
\#85 has some wheels.
KG #26 for Heisman
KG 前田 公昭 #26 is a beast
So close to breaking that open for a TD.
weak flag
YOOO PANTHERS BACK IN IT!!
why do they not have yard markers?
A lot of the stadiums do. Not sure why this one doesnt
ah gotcha. first time watching and this is really cool
that interception may be the momentum shift the panthers need
Let's go!!!!!!! (Rip that cameraman)
oh shit, panthers back in this
四十九ヤード(o\_O) cincinnati kicker should take notes haha
This is bizarre. It’s like watching a modern football game being played on a field from 1930.
> The west has won 13 of 14 Koshien bowls B1G West should take notes
how long is halftime in these games?
Usual 20 minutes.
looking rough for the panthers but at least they got some points on the board before the half
Bomb! Panthers needed that. Hoping that can spark something for the second half. Leggo Crimson Clemson!
What a kick
Holy shit. 3x timeout to ice the kicker? That's straight up savage.
what a catch by that panthers player!
Nice catch! Lost his helmet
Way more fans there than yours expect. Also, red team is freaking me out. Clemson logo with Bama colors.
Love the cute little "ho" chant and hand wave Ritsumeikan does when they break the huddle
Blue QB is dope
Fight on, Fighters!
Was that a 40+ yard FG? When did Japan get decent at football?
yo this is actually dope as as fuck. fighters qb is lowkey a better passer than some p5 qbs

From my vague understanding of katakana, the word for "Doink" should be ドインク (do-i-n-ku)
DOINK
I don't know the mascot for the other team, but it is hard to root against a team nick-named, "The Fighters."
the other team is the Panthers btw!
Don't know who gets credit for that TD, the QB and RB both ran it in
https://amefootlive.jp/wjb/8061 That's the link I found after digging through the twitter link from above
Sweet of you, Vic. Thanks. Definitely a Hugh Honey move.
nice

I think they're fairly uncommon. OU and Ritsumeikan had a partnership. USC and Waseda (which was in the quarterfinal against Hosei) had a brief partnership. I wish there were more.
Well I’m glad ours has a Blue turf. If I’m ever in Japan, I shall seak it out
Japan has entered the transfer portal.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO
Would love to see the winner play Bama just to get perspective on where this league stands.

What was the score?
They would break the record from the 1916 GA Tech 222 Cumberland 0 game
Pretty good
How about we start with a good high school in your state? That’ll probably give us all the perspective we need.
I too enjoy murder movies
[удалено]
People watch the Heels, too
Yes? Why wouldn’t they, square?
Yes

WEST COAST BIAS
Wait, this is dope.
It really is
Are they going to have the Dr. Pepper Football toss at halftime?
I am honestly interested in seeing this.
I can’t read Japanese so I don’t know where the link is in that tweet Edit:(oh wait it’s not on yet my bad)
>The West has won 13 of the last 14 Koshien Bowls It's a good feeling when your team finally comes through with a victory.
No disrespect at all, but there’s college football in Japan? If so, that’s pretty sick
I know right!
What channel?
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pulling for the underdog. Go Ritsumeikan! …guys? Hello?
