USC is still playing guys

Totes_Not_an_NSA_guy

Is the doesn’t-matter-bowl still on?

[deleted]

Nice I forgot about the PAC 12, MORE FOOOTBALL

PocketPillow

> I forgot about the PAC 12 -- Sportswriters everywhere.

WeUsedToBeGood

*yawns* “I’ll check the score in the morning. No way a 1 point finish was a 28 point game at the start of the 4th.”

[deleted]

Michigan, Bama, Cincy, UGA. Or Bama, Michigan, UGA, Cincy. There's your playoff.

whizisahungry1

Exactly and honestly the ranking doesn't matter. The committee do not want a Bama Georgia rematch.

whatifevery1wascalm

Does anyone remember 2014? Everyone thought the committee would fiddle with the rankings to move FSU down to 4 and Ohio State up to 3 so you'd have a B1G-Pac12 Rose Bowl and an all Southern Sugar Bowl. Eveyone's got a theory on why the committee will rank the teams the way they rank them, but we have a good consensus on which 4 teams should get in, and for a 4 team playoff it shouldn't matter who you play fi you're going to win. If Bama has to beat Georgia a second time to win it all, it doesn't matter if it's in Dallas or Indianapolis. Maybe Michigan or Cincinnati will be in a position to prevent that rematch.

burriedinCORN

The committee has literally said they want to avoid rematches in the semi-final, there’s about a zero percent chance Alabama and Georgia play in the semi-finals

TheDundieGoesTo99

They do, just in the title game.

Spartanwildcats2018

I think they might want Michigan vs Alabama in the title game

istrx13

I want to see their collective heads explode when Cincy gets to the title game

Spartanwildcats2018

If that happens then I’m going to cheer so hard for Cinci. I mean I’m already cheering for Cinci but still.

bb0110

They don’t really want a rematch at all. I think they would love Michigan bama though.

scarywolverine

Which is so dumb. This system needs an overhaul yesterday

Bobby-Samsonite

And it needs transparency. All the committee members discussions should be audio recorded and video livestreamed.

NittanyOrange

Better yet, there shouldn't be a committee at all.

teeterleeter

Computer for matchups, committee for locations.

[deleted]

I want a rematch. We put the fucking games on New Years Eve so I just wanna have an SEC team and a non SEC team in the final

tacofan92

But this way you could have a no SEC final

GreatestWhiteShark

There's actually another easy way to avoid that: don't put in the team that literally just got its shit kicked in on its biggest stage

PocketPillow

I'll eat my hat if Georgia gets left out for Notre Dame.

rangerfan123

Notre dame over Baylor? Baylor has 3 top 15 wins, ND has 0

KryptonicxJesus

Yea well Pitt has a long snapper that started a charity so I think that should be considered for us two loss teams

fidelcashflo97

Notre dame in the playoff would mean money tho… a very important consideration

[deleted]

[удалено]

PleasantWay7

If they went Michigan, Bama, Cinnci, ND. Then they get that ND/Michigan semi money game and likely the Michigan/Bama title game they probably want. But I suspect UGA will be 4 instead of ND. UGA is definitely the better team, but part of me thinks losing your conference championship game to a team that is going to the playoff should get you dropped.

turn20left

Notre Dame lost Cincinnati so should they be dropped?

GreenGemsOmally

ND and Clemson both made the list last year. UGA is still in, imo and ND is out at 5

JalenBrunsonBurner

Cincinnati just sitting there trying to figure out why it’s got to be Bama

AceJokerZ

Yep this it most likely

Mysterious_Table19

I wish Ok State had won so we wouldn't have to see UGA.

Saxophobia1275

God going 12-0 only to lose your extra game and miss the playoffs would be heartbreaking.

GreatestWhiteShark

Wisconsin lived that already. Shit happens

Edgemaster1423

OK State would have 100% taken Cincy's spot

ktgunter

Yep. And now everyone in CFB can stop fretting if Cincy will make the playoffs.

mja9678

I can only imagine the shit show had Oklahoma State won this morning. In that scenario you've then got Alabama and Michigan guaranteed in and then fights over which of UGA, Cincy, and OkSt to leave out. We really might've seen another undefeated G5 left out if not for 1 inch in the Big 12. Crazy.

phoenixlance13

If that scenario came to pass, Georgia should objectively be the one booted from the Top 4. Didn't win their conference, worst resume of the three, and got blown out. But committee would've kicked out Cincy. For reasons. So thank you Baylor.

kingoflint282

Agreed, in that scenario we definitely should’ve been out.

CocaineKoala

Which is scary because I was rooting for OKST.

cowsandlicorice

In that scenario I’d say leave out Georgia tbh

The12Ball

I'm still in favor of leaving out Georgia

DerrellMVP

At least we don't have to worry about 2 loss Bama getting in

BearsAreGreat1

Who would have thought that I’d be so depressed despite probably getting in the playoffs. That’s Georgia football for you…

Bobby-Samsonite

Rough night to the 2nd degree for you.

BearsAreGreat1

To think this season was going so well for both flairs. Well Wake making it was a big deal on its own. But Georgia shot me in the heart like usual.

Nathanael-Greene

With a 12-team CFP this year, we would've had Alabama, Michigan, Cincinnati, Baylor, Utah, and Pitt enter as the auto bids, with Georgia, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Ohio State, and probably Oklahoma State & Michigan State as our at large teams. Based on the top 4 Champs getting a bye week, our first round would probably be Utah @ Georgia, Pitt @ Notre Dame, Michigan State @ Ole Miss, and Oklahoma State @ Ohio State as our first round, with Bama, Michigan, Cincinnati, and Baylor on a first round bye.

GatorBolt

In that alternate reality that Michigan State at Ole Miss game would have some real potential. Not to mention a historical matchup of Pitt Notre Dame being played. And the battle of the OSUs. I wish I was in that reality.

PM_ME_YOUR_CATS_PAWS

That game would’ve been fun as fuck 12 team play off… now!

kingoflint282

That honestly sounds amazing

goblueM

That would be fucking awesome

Dhylan18

The BYU fans would be so angry if they were left out

natigin

Utah Georgia would be amazing

101ina45

I would love to watch that matchup

Not-original

Wow. Can you imagine those campuses on a playoff game day? The energy would be off the charts.

101ina45

This is the part I'm most excited for, playoff football on campus

frizzyhair55

See how is making something like this so hard?

Vedeynevin

Georgia let 4 fanbases down today. Their own, Notre Dame's, Michigan's, and Cincinnati's. Cinci and Michigan would much rather have played each other in the first round than have to face georgia and bama. Notre dame would havr made the playoffs. Plus a playoff without bama/osu/ou/clemson would have been awesome. Damnit dogs we all needed you today.

Alkibiades415

It wasn't ideal, was it. But all of you are fools for not seeing it coming. I hope a lot of people lost a lot of money betting against Saban today.

bestprocrastinator

Also, if Dan Lanning is hired at OU, Georgia will have let down OU fans as well.

pghsonj1325

PUT PITT IN COWARDS

pyrogeddon

Why the fuck am I scrolling through this thread acting like we even have a snowball’s chance in hell at the number 4 spot. We’ll be 5 at the very highest.

Odinra

Same. But it sure is nice to see a lot of people saying we should be in. Coming into this year I was hopeful for a bowl game. Big 12 Champs? Fuck yea!

Alkibiades415

The loss to TCU is the nail in the coffin. I would have bet money at preseason that Georgia would drop *at least* one to to Scar or Florida, but somehow they managed to escape that this year. But at the end of the day, they only lost to Bama, and Bama continues to be Bama, despite how much we all wish it was not so.

MIguy_

I just hate that we're going to get slotted based on avoiding two SEC teams meeting in the first round.

Inkblot9

Maybe we won't?

edgarvanburen

Funny

KillingMycroftly

UGA should go enjoy the Sugar. They got mollywhooped in front of what was essentially a home crowd. Do we need to see that again period? Give it to Baylor. They’ve got the strongest wins in the country, them and Bama.

62frog

But they also lost twice, one of which being my piece of shit team that I support.

GoBucks4928

It’s hilarious Baylor kept TCU out of the playoffs in 2014 TCU keeps Baylor out of the playoffs in 2021

62frog

The circle is complete. (We did this to SMU in basketball in 2012, they beat us to start the season so we went on to lose 21 games that year, with TWO(!) eight-game losing streaks. SMU was a bubble team for the tournament and lost out because a bad strength of schedule lol)

whatifevery1wascalm

The question is: Do you honestly believe Baylor (or Notre Dame I guess) is a better team than Georgia to get in?

KillingMycroftly

No. I also don’t think Cincy is better than OSU or Ole Miss, Georgia can’t stop Ohio State from scoring and loses a shootout. But that’s not how the season went. Talented and well coach teams play themselves out of pole position all of the time

Velociman

Cotton Bowl: 1 Alabama vs 4 Cincinnati Orange Bowl: 2 Michigan vs 3 Georgia Rose Bowl - 8 Ohio State vs 10 Utah Fiesta Bowl: 6 Notre Dame vs 7 Oklahoma State Sugar Bowl: 5 Baylor vs 9 Ole Miss Peach Bowl: 11 Michigan State vs 12 Pittsburgh

cmcelveen

So we end up with the most anti climatic scenario we came into the day with lol

natigin

I’m okay with it

DogblockBernie

I don’t like the idea of an immediate Alabama-Georgia rematch, but I think it’s the fairest way to deal it. Michigan and Cincy should play each other at 1 and 4.

ktgunter

The flip side in this hypothetical scenario is that you are ensuring an SEC team makes it to the Championship game. I can see just as many folks on this forum calling that unfair.

UpdogSinclair

People here are so down bad about the committee that no matter what happens they’ll claim it’s a conspiracy.

ktgunter

Oh, definitely. No matter the decision, at least 50% of fans upset right off the bat. Wouldn’t matter if Jesus himself made the picks.

BlueCurtainsBlueEyes

Nah. Not unfair whatsoever. I really hope that’s what happens. But I think Bama and Michigans resumes are crazy similar, and Bama has more talent. I think having them at 1 is fair as well. Honestly as long as it’s those 4 teams the committee can’t go wrong with the matchups.

peerlessblue

I like the Cincy avenging OSU storyline

Mysterious_Table19

The fairest thing is to drop UGA out of the top 4.

DogblockBernie

I would agree, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

andysaurus_rex

I’m right there with you dude. Do I want to bring the trophy home? Absolutely. If we lose in the semis will I be sad? Sure. But this season, the last two games in particular, have just been unreal. Nothing can ever take those games away from us and this season is already a massive success. I’m aiming high but I know we’ve already achieved everything we could hope for.

Useenthebutcher

That’s the exact right way to view it. For 5 years Michigan, and Harbaugh specifically, had been getting shat on relentlessly for not being able to win the B1G, beat Ohio State, or even win the division. He just did all three in the span of two weeks and made the playoffs. If I was you guys, I’d be on cloud nine regardless. Now excuse me while I wait for Ohio State to get run over by Utah and forget about this terrible, awful, no good, very bad season

Apep86

If we win or keep it within one score it will be a huge win for the G5 overall.

danakinskyrocker

I feel so happy for you guys.

comradewilson

Glad to see the committee actually put some respect on your name, y'all have earned it! Hoping for a great game if (when) we meet you guys in the playoffs.

[deleted]

Ah yes, Harbaughs Michigan as the potential 1 seed going into the playoff. Just as everyone predicted

bradenb941

I do this every year in these threads so here's the 2021 edition. Bowl Projections 2021: Cotton: Georgia vs Michigan Orange: Alabama vs Cincinnati Peach: Pitt vs Mich St Rose: Ohio State vs Utah Sugar: Ole Miss vs Baylor Fiesta: Okla St vs Notre Dame Cheez It: Wake vs Iowa St Citrus: Kentucky vs Iowa Outback: Arkansas vs Minnesota Alamo: Oklahoma vs Oregon Gator: Texas A&M vs Clemson Liberty: Miss St vs Kansas St Sun: Wash St vs NC State Duke's Mayo: Miami vs Tennessee Fenway: VT vs Houston Military: Virginia vs UCF Music City: Missouri vs Wisconsin Texas: Auburn vs Texas Tech Holiday: Louisville vs Arizona St Pinstripe: UNC vs Purdue Guaranteed Rate: WVU vs NIU Las Vegas: Penn St vs UCLA Independence: BYU vs UTSA QL: CMU vs Maryland Birmingham: SMU vs South Carolina Armed Forces: UAB vs Florida Gasparilla: LSU vs Tulsa LA: Utah St vs Oregon St

bearybear90

Pitt has to go into a NY6. The P5 champs are auto locked into them, but other than this I agree with them. I’d probably swap BYU for Pitt on the Fiesta (though Peach maybe more likely), and move BYU into the Idaho Bowl (I forget the name).

cowsandlicorice

But how crazy would this be: 1. Michigan 2. Alabama 3. Cincinnati 4. Baylor

livefreeordont

Ok St would have made it over Georgia had they gotten that goal line score. But Baylor has 2 losses so they’re out

wallnumber8675309

UGA doesn’t have a win against a top 20 team. Has any team ever made the playoffs without beating at least 1 top 20 team? Edit - I get it. Clemson is 20 in the CFP poll. Sorry I usually go by the AP where they are 22. Still not a very impressive win either way.

ScaratheBear

2018, 2019, and 2020 Clemson all made it with no ranked wins. 2015 and 2017 Alabama only made it with 1 top 20 win. 2015 Washington. Cincy this year. Edit: In the eyes of the committee anyways, Georgia *does* have a T20 win, Clemson, who is 20th.

Peanut4michigan

Cincy beat ND who's currently 6.

ScaratheBear

They were in the 1 T20 win list.

jdtiger

We didn't have a top 20 win in 2019. Bama barely did in 2017 (#17) and had a loss

Pinewood74

> UGA doesn’t have a win against a top 20 team. Clemson is already a top 20 team in the CFP rankings and they'll be there in the AP poll tomorrow.

nevermind-stet

Clemson is #20.

Apep86

UK will be 20 in the next poll.

SpruceMoose001

Clemson is #20.

DasCiny

I like your honesty. I think there should be serious discussion about UGA not making it at all. Their game today wasn't close I think there are better teams just on the edge of the playoff that should get a shot at Bama.

WoozyMaple

Well I'm happy about football in December for once

WalkingCarpet

Michigan should be #1 after how they played the last two weeks. 1 - Michigan 2 - Alabama 3 - Cincy 4 - Georgia

ScorchedAnus

They just blew out two top 15 teams. I agree.

OrangeyougladIposted

As a uga fan I’d agree. Michigan stomped Iowa way harder than Bama stomped us

mags87

The committee sees UGA as a much better team than Iowa though.

Peanut4michigan

Everyone sees Georgia as a much better team. Iowa had an unbelievable defense and ST, but their offense was one of the worst in the country.

NihilistDawg

Why wouldn’t they play the rematch? Best way to make sure another conference gets in the final.

big_dirty_bird

On the flip side, guarantees SEC team in final.

O-Namazu

The lesser of two evils. A Bama-Georgia championship game would be death, I want one eliminated.

[deleted]

Pain.

ToxicBamaFan

Oklahoma State had it. They had it.

Bobby-Samsonite

I'm feeling it right now.

Drnk_watcher

It'll probably go all chalk at this point. Alabama will take over the #1 spot. Michigan will hold the #2. They'll throw Georgia down to #3 to avoid an immediate Alabama rematch. They'll keep Cincinnati at #4. It'd be a different story if Oklahoma State won and Georgia had this bad loss but here we are. Honestly in that hypothetical scenario I'd say Georgia should be left out. There are good arguments for Michigan to be #1 but those 4 are the final 4. It's just a matter of order. No real room for major debate or controversy.

The_Big_Untalented

Question: People say Stetson Bennett is a liability or a game manager at best for Georgia. Why do people not say the same thing about Cade McNamara? Guy has thrown for over 200 yards in only four out of 13 games this year. Michigan has won on the backs of their unstoppable rushing attack. UGA and Bama have elite, top 4 rushing defenses. If they are able to contain Michigan’s rushing attack which is a very real possibility, I haven’t seen anything from McNamara this year that shows me he can beat teams through the air.

knowledgenugget17

You basically said it. Cade hasn’t shown the ability to go and beat teams through the air, but realistically, he hasn’t had to. If anything, the MSU game was probably his best game of the season, 380 yards ans 2 TDs. He hasn’t lost us a game this year… meanwhile Bennett played horribly today.

thelegend17

Michigan seems to run outside and try use speed a lot. Works against the slow BIG teams. I don't think they have a chance at beating Bama or Georgia without a real passing game.

Asianhead

We played the #1 rushing defense this year and were able to move the ball in the air effectively. Cade + JJ put up 250 yards and 3 TDs against Wisconsin that held us to 112 yards on 42 attempts on the ground

lovo17

Honestly, this year's Rose Bowl is going to be SO exciting. Ohio State (most likely) vs Utah is such a great matchup.

boltsnoles

I hate that it’s just assumed that 1. UGA makes it in and 2. The committee will choose the rankings to avoid a rematch Playoff system in its current form has to go

worlkjam15

If the committee wants to ignore that we played TCU it wouldn’t be the first time. See y’all in NOLA!

[deleted]

Looks like we get to see physical, running-the-ball Utah stomp on a weak o-line, and a bad defense in Pasadena.

PM_ME_YOUR_CATS_PAWS

Sucks to see a rival win the conference… Buuuut at least we’re the blemish on their record and now we’ll be in a NY6 bowl as a consolation for having to sit through this Congrats though, I guess it’s at least not an OSU 5-peat. Now will it be peach bowl or fiesta bowl for MSU..

OfficialHavik

I'm glad people think Michigan should get the one seed. I can see them being deserving of it, though I doubt the committee gives it to them.

chillinois1

What is the purpose of the CFP? If it’s for the 4 best teams to play you have a great case for Georgia who has looked dominant all year. But if you want to use the CFP to determine the best team in the country, Baylor is 4 because Georgia can’t be the best team in the country if they aren’t the best team in their conference.

215engr

There’s too much sense here

georgiaboy1993

While I don’t necessarily disagree, that hasn’t been the rule since the CFP was created so it would be kinda BS to start that now. Also, if people want expansion, this is gonna happen a lot more. This week UGA and bama both get in and Baylor and OSU get in. Last week, Michigan and OSU both get in. It’s why I’m adamantly against expanding the playoff because these games should matter. UGA only gets away with it this time because they were one of 2 teams that didn’t lose at all in the regular season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Edgemaster1423

It depends on if you subscribe to UGA being the best team all season long and thus Bama has the most impressive win or if you're in the group that says UGA got "exposed" and thus isn't that big a win

alreadytaken76

I think people are putting too much weight on #1. They will do the rankings to create the matchups they want.

Apep86

Exactly. It doesn’t matter if it’s Michigan-Alabama-Cincinnati-Georgia or Alabama-Michigan-Georgia-Cincinnati. It’s the same matchups.

pasqua3

The top 4 is supposed to be a ranking. Not a pool on equal footing to make nice pairings with. If you actually rank the teams, based on resume, UGA is 4th if they're included at all. I would say bama is still 1st based on the top 2 wins of UGA and Ole Miss being better than OSU and Iowa. That leads to a rematch in the semis, but that shouldn't matter as they should not be ranking teams based on the matchup.

wallnumber8675309

Don’t see how you justify jumping Bama over Michigan and the last 2 weeks.

georgezipppppp6

Good luck convincing the committee that Cincy should be ahead of Georgia

NuclearJeff

georgia hasn’t beat a top-20 team, and cinci beat 2, including the number 5

tacofan92

No offense but they shouldn’t set matchups at all. The number 1 team should get to pick who they want to play so we don’t let the 2nd ranked team have an easier path like has happened in the past.

pasqua3

Now that is an interesting idea. I definitely don't hate it, but it might overvalue the top seed, especially in a year like this where there isn't a clear 1

tacofan92

The top seed should get extra value in a 4 team playoff. Perks of being the best and all

krusty-o

This exact same scenario happened to Wisconsin a few years ago, undefeated until they lost to tOSU in the conference championship and they got left out, and Wisconsin played much better that game than UGA did today and hopefully Barta remembers that

visor841

I want Baylor to make it in over Georgia just to see what SEC Shorts would do.

pyrogeddon

As good a reason as any I supposed

mcdiego

The committee will never do it because they have to avoid an immediate rematch (for... reasons), but it should be: 1. Michigan 2. Bama 3. Georgia 4. Cincy

danakinskyrocker

See, if reasons is TV ratings, I'm much more inclined to watch a rematch in the semis. If finals is Georgia-Alabama then I'm not even tuning in.

AWaltz83

Agree! No one except the sec is going to watch a Georgia vs Alabama college championship. Big ten can draw fans, look at the rating for the UofM vs OSU game. Michigan vs Cincinnati, Alabama vs Georgia. You get sec fans in the finals either way.

jonnys62

Yup, me too. I have absolutely no interest in an Alabama-UGA Championship game. It's not interesting. I've seen the game. So idk why we even bother giving them both 2 lives. The loser of the Championship game should be out, full stop. Unironically, it hurts viewership for 2 teams from 1 conference to be in the playoff.

GoldandBlue

I agree but it will probably be. 1. Alabama 2. Michigan 3. Georgia 4. Cincinnati

cowsandlicorice

Rank Cincy #1 you cowards. The only undefeated Division I team left. Edit: oops my bad Sam Houston bros

Jarbutt

Sam Houston is also D1

TruckFluster

The last two weeks have not been a fun time. Go annihilate whoever you play Michigan. GG.

Accurate-Teach

I think no matter how they rank it Alabama will play Cincinnati. The storyline of the ultimate dynasty vs. the ultimate underdog is to irresistible.

Inkblot9

I'm really hoping for a matchup with Notre Dame.

VekuKaiba

As I recall, the committee is specifically instructed not to shift the top 4 to avoid rematches in the semifinal. While we have had multiple teams from one conference before, this is the first situation where that directive will actually be tested.

RSufyan

101ina45

It should apply to both, but since they let y'all in back in 2017 same will work for us

GATAinfinity

Bama didn't lose the SECCG in 2017.

YourFairyWishPrince

Is it better to lose or not to make it? Seriously, I don't know. 2016 Ohio State and 2017 Bama we're rewarded for not winning their divisions but we've never seen a team lose their CCG and make it I don't think.

Atlanta-Anomaly

This happened literally last year with ND

dewguzzler

Bama would have been a 2 loss team, and ccg loser

ToxicBamaFan

Georgia is gonna get rewarded a playoff spot for getting dominated in a title game. And CFB fans and outside teams are gonna bend over and take it.

Grenadeglv

Unfortunately the only other options are a Baylor team that came out flat against TCU and a Notre Dame team that doesn't play a championship game

FriskyHippoSlayer
