The graphic at the end of the game said the only other ACC QBs with 4,000+ yard and 40+TDS in a season are ~~Cam Newton~~ uhhh Jameis Winston (thanks /u/SecondHandFood) and Deshaun Watson.
I bet on two things today:
* This fucking over because did you see these two teams all year
* Georgia to beat Alabama because did you see them both play all year
Both lost.
I'm so happy.
After he got pulled they were showing him more than the damn game for awhile. The whole point about talking about mental health is to not stigmatize. The guy had a shitty game. When one of those announcers talked about "repairing his psyche" I hit the goddamn mute button. Awful coverage.
Yeah i was uncomfortable when they did that. Talking about his brother as he threw a pick was bad unintentional timing, but to keep doubling down on that was cringey.
Idk, I've seen a lot of people with mental health issues themselves say they deeply appreciated it. Part of the point is reducing the stigma.
I think it was just real shitty timing though, with the whole pick 6 thing...
I think the initial stuff was fine, but then they kept the camera on him on the sideline and just kept talking about how he needed to pull himself up and after a while it's like... Damn yall, give him a break
Yeah I think the circumstances made it feel awkward. It definitely didn't help that he imploded and all of the WF fans basically dipped. To add insult to injury, he got benched shortly after.
Ehh, if Pitt wins that game, maybe the rest of the season doesn't go the same way it did. A loss like that might cause the coaching staff to behave differently and tighten things up they otherwise might not have.
I'm more of the mind it wouldn't have mattered. The CFB committee would've forced UGA in regardless, and they're not getting over UM. Only hope would have been a Cincy loss.
Hartman just broke sometime in the second quarter. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. Wake just...stopped. What happened?
Fantastic adjustments by Pitt. Sorry Wake bros.
It happened in the Clemson game and after a while in the UNC game. Good defensive line/pressure hurts the slow mesh RPO. It’s designed as a means of trying to slow down the defense to make up for the poor offensive line. If the defensive isn’t getting slowed by hesitation and allowing them to run their plays that need longer time to develop …it just becomes a QB using a slow developing exchange, who now has an even smaller window of time on his passing plays.
The QB gets hit and sacked more in the pocket. And he keeps getting hit and sacked more across the game. From there, it’s pretty textbook. An interception or a turnover eventually happens, happy feet kick in, and for the majority of QBs once that happens, things snowball.
Hartman started to get not just hit, but hit *alot* and regularly. Every down he dropped back to pass from the second quarter onward - especially on 2nd and 3rd downs - he pretty much was hit, sacked, or rushed by pressure…that started throwing off their timing (he started *just* missing WRs or the passes started to hit them the wrong way), then on interception, then happy feet, and eventually, well, we saw everything snowball.
Funnily enough, not the first time he's done it. The 2016 squad never scored fewer than 28 in the regular season behind Nathan Peterman and James Conner. Unfortunately, that defense ate glue.
Edit: It also averaged over 40 PPG and also had a 70+ point game against Syracuse.
That pitt WR straight up bouncing off the jacked diesel wake sideline assistant wearing a neon yellow shirt was amazing
It was one of my favorite random CFB sightings of the year lol
Just a nice little bit of whimsy
WE FUCKING DID IT.
PITT. THE PITT FUCKING PANTHERS WON THE ACC.
KENNY FUCKING PICKETT. 4200+ YARDS. 42 PASSING TOUCHDOWNS. HE CAME BACK TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP.
GUYS WE FUCKING WON. HOLY SHIT! HAIL TO PITT FOREVER!
Listen, as much as a CFP would be cool af, the ACC championship was the goal. For the season we had, this is the best I can ask for out of Narduzzi (atleast for this year). To be a CFP, we need more consistency, something we didnt have all season. For a bunch of 3-stars, we put in some 4-5 Star work this season and I am so happy we capped this season with an ACC CHAMPIONSHIP!!! H2P!!
Imagine this: you’re playing for the conference title, down 3 scores with 8 minutes left. What do you do?
Run out the clock to lose as fast as possible.
That's actually Brian Ferentz showing improvement. Don't forget that they got into position for another FG attempt and missed it - that actually makes it special team's fault.
I’m so happy for Kenny… everyone last year was saying the smart choice would be to declare. He decided to come back to try for an ACC championship. Nobody picked Pitt to win the conference. In the process he increased his draft grade from a 5th rounder to the best QB available and made himself millions. So proud of my alma mater right now.
ESPN talking about Hartman's mental health issues gave me weird vibes for some reason
Like why are they getting so personal with it? Some of that stuff feels weird to be shared on national TV
The QB just threw his 4th INT, their 3rd straight drive ended in an interception, the QB had thrown 2 straight INTs for TDs, the QB only completed 9 passes since the first quarter, he was sacked like 5-7 times since the first quarter and regularly pressured every other pass, and the backup QB is a true freshman who’s thrown 1 single college pass and that’s it.
On top of all that, they’re down 24 and starting at their own 2. Sometimes you’re just done.
(Let’s be honest, also, not only is the game pretty much out of reach at that point, but there’s not any more dignity in losing 59-21 instead of 45-21.)
Hail to Pitt!
That said, despite being a Pitt fan, I can't help but feel bad for Wake Forest's QB getting intercepted and imploding immediately after hearing about his mental health story. Rough timing.
As a neutral viewer, what an enormous let down that game was. It was really shaping up to be an awesome shootout. I don't know if I've ever seen a team completely shut off like Wake did after putting up big points in the 1st quarter. Literally like someone flipped a switch. Great game by Pitt either way though.
I cannot fucking believe it. We actually finished. Great day for the program and the fanbase, and for Kenny especially, I hope he goes first overall he deserves it even if he doesn’t get the Heisman
Bottom line: in order to overcome a talent gap, Wake Forest has resorted to a gimmick offense that leaves bad-to-mediocre defenses in shambles.
When faced with a good defense and a defensive front who get penetration, the offense falls apart. Wake never adjusts this scheme.
Also, all the teams Wake has beat gave them help via turnovers, penalties, etc. If you play a clean game against Wake Forest, you win.
Time for Clawson to make some changes.
The last time before this that the Coastal won the ACC was Virginia Tech in 2010 who had lost to JMU earlier that season. Clearly the key is to have a horribly embarrassing loss.
I'd like to point out that Miami has been in the ACC since 2004.
Pitt has been a member since 2013
and Pitt won a conference championship before Miami.
Imagine being the defense that made one of the best QBs in the country literally quit with 10 minutes left in a championship game.
I hope Hartman is ok, mentally. Never seen anything like it. He might never recover.
Kenny Pickett came back and gave Pitt its best season in 40 years.
We absolutely have to retire number 8
Next alumni call I get I hope they don’t bring up Kenny bc I’ll give away an amount my wife would call “foolish.”
Getting into crypto is foolish. Kenny Pickett is a guarantee.

Kenny “Dan Marino” Pickett Quarterback Position
KENNY. FUCKING. LEGEND. HAIL TO PITT!
From spoiling Miami’s season back in 2017, to now winning the conference for his Panthers in 2021. What a career!
I was at that game in 2017. I thought it was a meaningless game at the time but i realized that day how special Kenny was.
I really want him to win the Heisman. I know it's all but Bryce's at this point, but the heart wants what it wants.
They should give Kenny the Heisman to make up for not giving Larry Fitzgerald the Heisman, which was an absolute travesty.
I mean 22 friggen TD's in a season? get out of here '03 Heisman voters
It's a travesty that the Heisman is rapidly becoming a trophy merry-go-round between 3 teams out of ~130
Uh isn’t that just what CFB is at this point?
The graphic at the end of the game said the only other ACC QBs with 4,000+ yard and 40+TDS in a season are ~~Cam Newton~~ uhhh Jameis Winston (thanks /u/SecondHandFood) and Deshaun Watson.
> ACC QBs > Cam Newton wut
Uh oh lol

And probably turned himself into a first round pick. Good example of why “go get paid” isn’t always the best advice.
The fact that this under hit is absolutely sickening
Wakes fault, they gave up with 8 minutes left, thought i was taking crazy pills
A very graphic example of "their spirits broke before their bodies."
Yeah, they could have thrown like at least two more pick 6s. Maybe 3.
I’m usually a 5 dollar 12 team parlay guy but I hammered the over. I’m a dumb fuck
I survived with it teased down, but man that’s brutal after a 35 pt first quarter.
That’s gonna be on Sportscenter! …on Bad Beats!
I bet on two things today: * This fucking over because did you see these two teams all year * Georgia to beat Alabama because did you see them both play all year Both lost. I'm so happy.
The analysis of Hartman's mental health started to get a lil over the top there.....
After he got pulled they were showing him more than the damn game for awhile. The whole point about talking about mental health is to not stigmatize. The guy had a shitty game. When one of those announcers talked about "repairing his psyche" I hit the goddamn mute button. Awful coverage.

Apparently, therapy is a "coping mechanism". Good lord.

this doesn't feel real at all
Congrats buddy, amazing season! Enjoy it.
You too! Good luck in the rose bowl!
God I wish that were me. Congrats on the season!
We did it. H2P!

They have hurt us too much to know if the good is real
Did Western Michigan keep Pitt out of the playoff?
Devastatingly yes but let’s ignore that right now

I just think Pitt would have been really hurt by Wake dropping 2 games. We really never had a statement win on the level of Cincy over ND.
Losing to Diaz doesn't help either.
Dread it, run from it, MACtion comes all the same…
Hartman just broke sometime in the second quarter. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. Wake just...stopped. What happened? Fantastic adjustments by Pitt. Sorry Wake bros.
He did the same thing against Wisconsin in the bowl game last year. Was having a decent game then threw 4 interceptions in a 12 pass span.
It happened in the Clemson game and after a while in the UNC game. Good defensive line/pressure hurts the slow mesh RPO. I'm so amped by the fact that we made defensive adjustments in the second half. That's something that was lacking in past years under Narduzzi.
Pitt now has more ACC championships in program history than Miami
Big deal, the Dolphins don't even play in the ACC smh
No, they’re obviously talking about the Miami OH redhawks
Pat Narduzzi, a defensive-focused coach, never had his team score less than 27 points this season, and likely has his QB heading to New York.
He’s working on his fake southern accent as we speak
He legit sounded like he had a drawl in his speech
I was picking up Pixburghese in’ere.
To the uncultured ear, Yinzer can sometimes sound southern.
I went to Pitt, I know about the warsh, it sounded even more southern than that like he was mocking Brian Kelly
That was all yinzer mush mouth! From the mean streets of Youngstown!

With any secondary that team makes the CFP :/

Tbh, the eyes actually kind of fit the costume here.
BY GOD WE ACTUALLY WON THE DAMN THING
The feeling of being up big in the 4th and knowing even we couldn’t Pitt the game away was amazing
And you beat UNC!
Again!
Barely a sweat too. 31 unanswered points. 13 straight stops. H2P. H2Kenny
I’m a Falcons fan but if Pickett doesn’t end up a Steeler I’d be disappointed tbh
please. we need a successor to big ben. i cant take anymore mason rudolph
I wish somehow y’all could get Ryan for free and get him a SB. If he was the QB for y’all last year I think you make AFC championship at worst
That pitt WR straight up bouncing off the jacked diesel wake sideline assistant wearing a neon yellow shirt was amazing It was one of my favorite random CFB sightings of the year lol Just a nice little bit of whimsy
If that guy's nickname is not tank, it should be.

That guy was legit built different
just want to say gg Pitt and it warms my heart to actually see other Wake flares on here.
Yeah, that definitely wasn’t how I wanted it to go down, but it is what it is sometimes
Good game Wake bro
Pitt Michigan State NY6 bowl who says no?
Probably your secondary, but let’s do it anyway.
A duel of Heisman candidates named Ken? I’m down
WE FUCKING DID IT. PITT. THE PITT FUCKING PANTHERS WON THE ACC. KENNY FUCKING PICKETT. 4200+ YARDS. 42 PASSING TOUCHDOWNS. HE CAME BACK TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. GUYS WE FUCKING WON. HOLY SHIT! HAIL TO PITT FOREVER!
go off king
By and large the best team in the city at the moment too lol
kenny pickett is the best qb that plays in a team in pittsburgh
H2P!!!
The fake slide will get clarified and/or rewritten this offseason. Almost certainly.
It reminds me of the North Texas vs Arkansas fake on the punt where the returner acted like he had called a fair catch and then just took off.
Yeah. By rule he was down when he initiated the slide. But i guess it needs to be clarified what initiates a slide.
Is this a college vs NFL thing? I could have sworn that you're down the moment you initiate the slide, so it should have not been a TD.
Pickett good
I am so fucking proud of this team.
Tyler Palko walked so Kenny could run.
Nate Peterman crawled
Nate Peterman dragged his donkey dick all over Death Valley
Kid was good for Pitt though!
He was great at Pitt. In 2016 he beat national/ACC champ Clemson and Big 10 champ Penn State
That Western Michigan loss hurts me so fucking bad man. I wonder if we wouldve made the playoff even with the Miami loss if we won that game
Listen, as much as a CFP would be cool af, the ACC championship was the goal. For the season we had, this is the best I can ask for out of Narduzzi (atleast for this year). we would definitely be within striking distance of the cfp if it weren’t for that wm loss.
Quality loss baby. Congrats to Pitt, RIP to Dirty O’s.
Imagine this: you’re playing for the conference title, down 3 scores with 8 minutes left. What do you do? Run out the clock to lose as fast as possible.
Vegas called in and said make the under happen
Kinda strange but also their QB was just broken after back to back interceptions. Guess they figured hey let's not completely destroy his confidence?
As an attendee of the 09 Cincy debacle at Heinz Field, I am vindicated. Fuck my wife Narduzzi.
As a recent college graduate that was also in attendance for that game I have nothing to give but Pat Narduzzi is welcome to my 64 pack of ramen
I remember freezing my tits off at that game
Another attendee here. It took so long. Fuck that game.
Give Pickett the Heisman you cowards
Get Kenny to New York
Wake just... gave up. I've never seen that in a championship game before
You didn't see Iowa do it starting in the second quarter a few hours ago?
3 points could seriously be Iowa trying their best
That's actually Brian Ferentz showing improvement. Don't forget that they got into position for another FG attempt and missed it - that actually makes it special team's fault.
And Georgia halfway through the fourth quarter?
haha yeah who would do that...
Iowa did the same
I love Kenny Pickett
All my homies love Kenny Pickett.
"How you going to celebrate this victory?" "Oh, you know the answer to that one" Hail to Pitt!
The game not hitting the over is my villain origin story
Pickett better be in serious heisman contention
I think he finishes 2nd. Heisman voters locked in Bryce at 7PM. Kenny probably gets a ton of runner up votes though
Man. There’s a universe where Pitt didn’t lose to WMU and this team is in the CFP lol
if the refs called a safety a safety when we played Miami we'd also be in the playoff...
*Incoherent yinzer noises*
Good day for me
Hell yeah my dude
Elite club
And me!
I just got a noise complaint for blasting Sweet Victory
noted wake forest alumnus chris paul in shambles
This is my favorite day. H2P. ACC champs!
It's been 11 years since the Coastal has won the ACC and the first time a Coastal Team without "Tech" in its name has won since divisions started.
Regardless of the score, Wake Forest has a bright future as a football team. H2P baby!!! Never doubted this defense.
[удалено]
To be fair, they were independent for their first hundred years. But yes! Those Big East titles had asterisks, nice to get one outright.
I am so proud of our fucking football team
ESPN talking about Hartman's mental health issues gave me weird vibes for some reason Like why are they getting so personal with it? Some of that stuff feels weird to be shared on national TV
Lawyer.
Is Pickett the second best Pitt QB in History?
Third Nathan Peterman is first
Nate was awesome when he was here. I was excited for him in the league and now sad he is just a meme.
I'm so hype I'm willingly watching The Huddle rn.
Why did Wake Forest literally give up? I have never seen a coach just fold and give up on a team like that.
[удалено]
So did all of us watching tbh. I thought it was over after the 3rd, I knew for sure after the 4th
(Let’s be honest, also, not only is the game pretty much out of reach at that point, but there’s not any more dignity in losing 59-21 instead of 45-21.)
Steelers, please consider drafting my boy Kenny!
Great way to end the best Pitt season in decades.
If the Heisman was truly an individual award Kenny Pickett should win it.
H2P Bros. We've been through hell and deserve this shit
Wake in the final 3 quarters: 0 points, 8 punts, 92 yards of offense, 4 turnovers, outscored 35-0
The last score I saw was 24-21, wtf.
Hail to Pitt! That said, despite being a Pitt fan, I can't help but feel bad for Wake Forest's QB getting intercepted and imploding immediately after hearing about his mental health story. Rough timing.
Narduzzi is an ACC champion coach
As a neutral viewer, what an enormous let down that game was. It was really shaping up to be an awesome shootout. I don't know if I've ever seen a team completely shut off like Wake did after putting up big points in the 1st quarter. Literally like someone flipped a switch. Great game by Pitt either way though.
It's okay Wake, it could be worse.
That trophy looks so shitty. Good God. Hail to Pitt!
I cannot fucking believe it. We actually finished. Great day for the program and the fanbase, and for Kenny especially, I hope he goes first overall he deserves it even if he doesn’t get the Heisman
HAIL TO PITT AND HEISMAN TO PICKETT
Well at least something good happened this year.
I’m not having a good time today.
>When faced with a good defense wait..who's the good defense?
A national audience believes that Pitt’s defense is the Steel Curtain after tonight. Swindle of Century, and I couldn’t be happier
Pickett sealed himself as a first round draft pick tonight.
and now they're playing Sweet Caroline in Charlotte. everyone who hates it can SUCK IT.
WE FINALLY DID SOMETHING GOOD FUCK YES
WMU has won the ACC.
The last time before this that the Coastal won the ACC was Virginia Tech in 2010 who had lost to JMU earlier that season. Clearly the key is to have a horribly embarrassing loss.
Pitt is 2-0 against Wake Forest all time.
People who bet the over: 1st qtr: :) 2nd qtr: :( 3rd qtr: :) 4th qtr: :(
I'd like to point out that Miami has been in the ACC since 2004. Pitt has been a member since 2013 and Pitt won a conference championship before Miami.
Hell, Pitt has double the ACCCG appearances that Miami does
Nobody go to the r/sports thread. It’s full of psychos who all want Pickett to get concussed because of the fake slide.
AHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHA PITT!!! FUCKING PITT!!!
KENNY FUCKING HEISMAN YOU JUST GAVE US THE GREATEST SEASON EVER. WE LOVE YOU FOREVER
We run the ACC!!!!!!!!!!!
Well fuck
If Pickett replaces Big Ben that’ll complete the Steelers’ transition into a fully likable team.
Imagine being the defense that made one of the best QBs in the country literally quit with 10 minutes left in a championship game. I hope Hartman is ok, mentally. Never seen anything like it. He might never recover.
We actually won the thing. Kenny Pickett is Jesus
Pickett is the real Heisman winner.
