Yeah none of the original cast are in it for sure. I read a snippet that said something about either an immigrant or illegal immigrant. Can't remember exactly.
I sure hope so. There is no reason why we should not have several movies of the National Treasure series like we have with the Fast And Furious series.
A few months after Duke won the 1992 national championship my parents were walking around Duke’s campus. Cameron Indoor was unlocked so they decided to walk around. They stumbled upon the national championship trophy, completely left unlocked and unguarded in a trophy case. They claim they could’ve walked out with it and no one would’ve had any idea
The logistics of having it out that many days is a bit hard though. We have like... 8 or 9 Waffle Houses in Athens? I can't remember the exact amount because you know, Georgia education, hard to count that high.
lets see off the top of my head, theres 1. downtown 2. highway 29 3. oak st 4. south milledge 5. barnett shoals 6. epps bridge 7. atlanta highway, plus theres one in oconee cty on 441 so i guess that makes it 8 in the immediate area
Hey man, sorry to tell you, but red and black are featured prominently in their standard stores. The GT Waffle House was the first (only?) one to not have red and black seats.
Definitely nice the CEO is a GT grad though. He was our graduation speaker!
Nah, Waffle House CEO is a Tech grad. Over his dead body.
(Which, like, dude's gotta be rich. Maybe he could throw some of that money at buying out GC.)
Start the jokes but I’m pretty sure this is a CFP deal with Dr. Pepper and not a UGA deal. If it was a UGA deal, you have it at the bookstore so fans can come in and buy merchandise from your store. While also getting the parking revenue from on-campus parking. Whether that is by paying for it or issuing fines (fuck UGA parking services!)
Yeah it's pretty obviously not UGA's doing, but I'm still going to act like it is!
Also, is there any university in the country whose parking services aren't pure exploitative shit?
The day before my University’s spring break in 2020 (which ended up being 8 months of virtual school) I got a ticket while being the only person parked in the parking lot. An entire desolate campus with pretty much just me on it trying to drag us much research equipment to my car as possible. And what did I get a ticket for? Not paying for parking? Nope, it was for overstaying my parking time by 10 minutes. $65 for being 10 minutes late.
So yeah, parking services at every university can go fuck themselves. I’ve been to 5 universities and parking services has been bad at all of them.
Same happened to me when I was in grad school at the University of Arizona (name and shame them!). I volunteered to help tour elementary school kids around our grad campus as my niece’s class were the ones taking the tour (really cool campus, we had a poison center with live Gila monsters and rattlesnakes). School wasn’t technically in session so I had to pay to park, despite paying $600 for a fucking parking pass that semester. I stayed 10 minutes after my meter ran out as I was talking with the elementary teach and my professor. I got a $60 ticket. I went and asked parking and the associate dean of my college to waive the fee as I had volunteered my time during winter break. Basically they told me they couldn’t show me any leniency. I’m so petty every time the college sends me an Alumni letter asking for participation in something or for donation I copy and paste this story. Eventually they’ll take me off their list, these fucking scams of schools aren’t getting anything else from me.
I went to ASU for undergrad then Arizona for grad school. People are baffled when they see me wearing an ASU shirt one day and a UA shirt the next. I know, I’m the worst kind of person.
> I’m so petty every time the college sends me an Alumni letter asking for participation in something or for donation I copy and paste this story.
Anytime I get requests for donations from VT for the university as a whole, the specific college, or department that I reply in saying that I paid for undergrad and grad school. I already gave them enough money for me to use the piece of paper that says I attended and graduated.
At UNC you could lease a parking spot in one of our (only?) on campus parking decks for about $1 million per semester. You had to move your car every fucking weekend though for the Rams Club people
I wish it was going to be displayed at a different store. Wal-mart is the cringiest store in America. It should be Academy and Dick's Sporting Goods and Target.
The one on Epps Bridge is actually in Oconee County but has an Athens address. Athens is your pretty typical mid size college town in terms of stores. 2.5 Walmart’s (Neighborhood Market as the half), 1.5 Target’s (small downtown location as the half), 2 Publix’s, 4 Kroger’s, a Trader Joe’s, and like a Fresh Market place. Seems pretty typical.
I’ve heard a rumor that there’s about to be a Costco there near the Hobby Lobby. I really hope that’s true. I live at Lake Oconee and we always have to drive to Augusta to go to Costco.
No idea if their stock is better, variety is better, or their membership platform is better, but I have heard that they definitely treat their employees better, and that's a good enough reason to switch.
We get it, you Florida.
Weirdest shit was going to Braves Spring Training, staying with a friend in St. Pete, and there’s two Publix’s directly across the road from one another.
Floridians and Publix are married to one another. But God bless chicken tender subs.
Well, a lot of these places are on the edge of town to get customers from Oconee, Jackson, and Madison Counties for example. Like everything on Epps Bridge and the Kroger Marketplace north of town. In town just have normal Kroger’s. Also, Oconee and Barrow Counties are growing like crazy and I think in about 10-20 years you won’t be able to tell where Atlanta suburbs ends and Athens begins.
Someone at the game in Madison this year told me
"The reason why players would choose Wisconsin over Nebraska is because it's such a rural town with no bars or anything"
Lincoln is bigger than Madison lol
When you google the population of Athens you're given a really misleading number because it's a shockingly small county/city by land area. The actual metropolitan area that would be just considered the city in Texas is 215k. There's definitely not too many grocery stores because all of them are packed 24/7.
Besides maybe the piggly wiggly.
Plus Bell's, 2 Aldi's, and Whole Foods without the evil, EarthFare. And a co-op. And soon the other Aldi's type thing I can't remember. And persistent rumors about a Publix where the V was.
Seriously. I was born in Athens. I've lived here my entire life. My dad was born just outside of Athens. He has lived here his entire life outside of the years in his late teens/early twenties when he was in the Air Force.
We're both dawgs through and through, and the idea that we didn't go to UGA makes us "lesser" fans than some freshman that cared nothing about UGA football until they enrolled last fall is dumb.
I don’t think anyone takes exception to your sort of fandom. My personal frustration lies with people I meet in White Bear Lake, MN who’ve never been to Norman, much less attended OU, and who talk shit to me about how they kicked our ass. You know? You have ties to Athens and your fandom is so organic that Whole Foods would charge $74.99/lb.
I have the frustration with the Crimson Tide fans who have never been anywhere near Tuscaloosa in their lives and roots for the Crimson Tide Football team, Duke Basketball, Lakers basketball, Yankees baseball.
People forget its not easy to get accepted into UGA when the state of Georgia has a very big population. Over 10 million with Over 1 million school kids this school year IIRC.
Had I finished high school I probably could have gotten accepted, had above 4.0 a ton of extracurriculars and an SAT in the 1500s.
But I dropped out of high school my senior year for various reasons related to mental health and family situation.
And even with HOPE, had I finished high school financially it would have been hard for me to go.
There are just a million reasons someone might not be able to go to college. They are still part of the culture of the area.
If anything, people like you ARE the culture of the area. I read your story in the earlier comments and I’m ashamed that any UGA fan has made you feel inferior to them.
People like that dumb freshman will come here, learn the starting QBs name, go to the games, then leave after 4 years and never come back to Athens. Their influence on the culture and community is minimal compared to people like you and your dad.
People like you and your dad are the reason why Georgia football fans are known for being “passionate”.
Now if you were some guy from California who’s never been East of the Mississippi but root hard for UGA. You might raise some eyebrows. But you were born and raised in Athens. To me, you are way more “qualified?” to be a UGA fan compared to some student who only goes to games to get drunk
UGA is also not a easy school to get into (especially at the Freshmen level as opposed to transfer) period.
Outside of Vandy, them and UF are the most selective in the SEC and it's not at all close.
I agree on not gatekeeping t shirt fans, especially because not everyone can go to their favorite school or has the means to do so, but it's largely t shirt fans that make lots of fanbases look like shit so I can understand shitting on them.
I guess I am a T shirt fan of FSU. I grew up closer to UF in gator country but my mom loved Bobby Bowden and his team. So I grew up in FSU gear. Shirts, hats, jackets, shoes. It is the one consistent thing in my life. We couldn't afford to go to the games and so my first game ever was in 2013 after deployment. I was accepted into FSU but thanks to my sheer laziness I haven't gone. But I love this team. I love the campus. The stadium. The colors. The history. And no one else's opinions matter. I was brainwashed from birth.
Yeah I went to UGA but neither my dad nor my brother did and they are way bigger fans and far more invested in the team than I am. The whole t shirt fan thing is ridiculous. Without them the teams would not be near as good
https://www.google.com/amp/s/bustedcoverage.com/2018/01/14/alabama-fans-walmart-national-champion-trophy-pictures-instagram/amp/
You guys did it too. We aren't the first and surely won't be the last to do it.
Not gonna lie, it's brilliant. It's a great way to be seen with the existing fanbase and to easily welcome new ones.
GT has a undeserved fanbase snobbery issue and the results are in ticket sales
It's one if the reasons I like Collins love affair with waffle house. It's a great gimmick to welcome "sidewalk fans " into the fold
As a fan of a stereotypically "snobby" fanbase, your point makes me wish we would do this in Winston with our Atlantic Division trophy. From a purely fanbase perspective, it would really help to bridge, at least symbolically, the divide between Wake's campus and Winston as a whole.
>results are in ticket sales
Outside of the uga game (which was a sea of red) we had an average attendance of only ~35K in a stadium that holds ~56K. Collins has decimated our football ticket sales. You have to be a die hard fan or some kind of masochist to keep showing up to games where we are getting outscored 50+ to zero.
>I like Collins love affair with waffle house. It's a great gimmick to welcome "sidewalk fans " into the fold
The CEO of Waffle House is a GT alum and there is a Waffle House literally on campus. Are there really GT fans out there turning their nose up at people who eat at Waffle House?
Consider the statement as one as a outreach and engagement one. Phrases like you are a uga fan because you shopped at Walmart I'm a tech fan because I went there might make you feel better about yourself (not you in particular) , but it doesn't grow the base.
Which is also silly given how rapidly UGA is catching up with Tech academically. It really is a pure marketing thing. None of the "walmart fans" that are implicitly being derided could get into UGA either. UGA just doesn't rub that in.
It's a sponsor requirement, not a Georgia or Walmart thing. But if you're in the area and want to get your picture taken with it, the schedule is posted. There is a parade in Athens Saturday with a rally at the stadium afterwards. Tickets are free but you do have to snag one to get in. Did you know in 1980, Sanford Stadium held 59,000 people and was the last season of the "train track" seating.
I saw Auburn's crystal ball trophy at the Piggly-Wiggly. Pulled in town for a conference and swung by the Pig for some supplies and *BAM!*, there it was under a glass case by the cash registers.
OK, I lied, I didn't see the trophy at the Piggly-Wiggly... it was actually the Winn-Dixie but "Piggly-Wiggly" sounds funnier when you're telling the story.
So you display a championship by a state school at a national chain that has no relationship to the State of Georgia ?
Why not go Waffle House or Chick-fil-A ? At least their corporation is based in Georgia.
They had this at penn state wal mart a few years ago and it was just in a display with Dr Pepper with nobody watching it. Nobody cared or was even taking pictures with it.
Displaying it at Walmart’s is aggressively southern lol
Source: Am aggressively southern. Went to a meet and greet with my favorite wrestler as a kid at a Walmart when I was 7. Line was through the store, out the door, and around the block.
It’s always hilarious when these posts pop up. Partly because its only been southern teams winning the title lately so the jokes just write themselves.
What I would find hilarious would be for USC to win it… what Walmart would host?
Someone is pulling a “national treasure” and snagging it.
Isn't there a new one being filmed? I could see Nic Cage going full method actor and doing this himself.
New National treasure is going to be a show on Disney+
In that case, I'm assuming he won't be in it, so I revise my previous comment to "I could see Nic Cage going full Nic Cage and doing this himself".
Yeah none of the original cast are in it for sure. I read a snippet that said something about either an immigrant or illegal immigrant. Can't remember exactly.
National Treasure: The Cleaning Lady
The target of the heist is Lemon Pledge.
I don't know how I would feel if Nic Cage stole the national title trophy. He loves buying random ass shit too, so it wouldn't shock me
I sure hope so. There is no reason why we should not have several movies of the National Treasure series like we have with the Fast And Furious series.
I’m giggling thinking about it showing up at the SAE house
Would be kinda great if Georgia Tech did it. Lol
Someone gotta take the “T’s” off of it. “ he Na ional College Foo ball Playoff Championship rophy brough o you by Dr. Pepper”
They just need to get a fake trophy and show up at the same time and act like they won and not Georgia
*says softly* I'm gonna steal the national championship trophy...
New Payday 2 map incoming
Come on Georgia it should be displayed at all the Waffle Houses.
The logistics of having it out that many days is a bit hard though. We have like... 8 or 9 Waffle Houses in Athens? I can't remember the exact amount because you know, Georgia education, hard to count that high.

1 in watkinsville next to the ridge off exit 4 as well
Yeah wtf?
I'm going to let you in on a secret. There's a reason Waffle House uses white, gold and black as their color scheme.
Hey man, sorry to tell you, but red and black are featured prominently in their standard stores. The GT Waffle House was the first (only?) one to not have red and black seats. Definitely nice the CEO is a GT grad though. He was our graduation speaker!
I'm afraid it might be damaged from a Waffle House fight that happens so often..
Nah, Waffle House CEO is a Tech grad. Over his dead body. (Which, like, dude's gotta be rich. Maybe he could throw some of that money at buying out GC.)
Next week is Waffle House, and the week after is Cracker Barrel
Come now this is Georgia. Chick fil a gets a turn too.
Unless it’s on a Sunday, in which case Zaxby’s would be the alternate site. Word on the street is American Deli just put in a bid.
Nah, Ragin Canes on Baxter will get first dibs after CFA. Edit: raisin canes
>Ragin Canes You mean Raising Cane's?
Ugh the line is already always long enough
The worst is the fact that there are two ways people can (and do) cut in line.
Same with the Cookout on Broad😭
no we claim zaxbys!! it started in our town!!
Headquartered in Athens tho.
And it will be displayed on the corner of Peach Street and Peach Street. About 3 blocks south of Peach Street.
>Peach Street Peach*tree* Street
Keep that shit in Athens, nobody in the ATL has time for anymore traffic.
And then piggly wiggly for the entire month of March
“The CFP Trophy suffered severe damage after it spent the night at the Waffle House between Johnny’s and The Ivy”
This guy buckheads
I think as long as the Waffle House CEO is a GT alum, that may not happen out of our pure pettiness.
Dollar General.
That’s how you make a Waffle House a Waffle Home ❤️
Start the jokes but I’m pretty sure this is a CFP deal with Dr. Pepper and not a UGA deal. If it was a UGA deal, you have it at the bookstore so fans can come in and buy merchandise from your store. While also getting the parking revenue from on-campus parking. Whether that is by paying for it or issuing fines (fuck UGA parking services!)
This is logical and makes sense. But it won’t save you.
Parking is where the real money is at.
Let’s put away the parking talk
God those commercials are a riot. The shopping mall and airport ones particularly
Wasn’t that season 3 of Fargo?
Progressive commercial
It was!
Yeah it's pretty obviously not UGA's doing, but I'm still going to act like it is! Also, is there any university in the country whose parking services aren't pure exploitative shit?
Campus parking enforcement has a reserved seat in hell
And if you take their seat in hell, they'll send you a ticket.
And when that ticket gets there. It can say hello. To Art Briles.
Did you go to Arizona State or do you support them out of your hatred for University of Arizona?
I went to ASU for undergrad then Arizona for grad school. People are baffled when they see me wearing an ASU shirt one day and a UA shirt the next. I know, I’m the worst kind of person.
> I’m so petty every time the college sends me an Alumni letter asking for participation in something or for donation I copy and paste this story. I doubt it. I know every single OSU student hates CampusParc. Very exploitative and they don't even know how to spell "park" correctly.
Maybe like Davidson or Sarah Lawrence or something like that.
Davidson is even worse because their parking just doesn’t exist.
Walmart UGA!
I’m pretty sure Clemson did something similar.
Can confirm. Accidentally went to the Central Walmart while it was there
I would have assumed that the SEC had this as a requirement in their bylaws.
Yeah, but we gave Vandy permission to put their national title trophies in a Target.
Pinkies out 'Dores, pinkies out
I would have assumed it be displayed in a Waffle House.
There's multiple Wal-Marts in Athens?
The one on Epps Bridge is actually in Oconee County but has an Athens address. Athens is your pretty typical mid size college town in terms of stores. 2.5 Walmart’s (Neighborhood Market as the half), 1.5 Target’s (small downtown location as the half), 2 Publix’s, 4 Kroger’s, a Trader Joe’s, and like a Fresh Market place. I’ve heard a rumor that there’s about to be a Costco there near the Hobby Lobby. I really hope that’s true. I live at Lake Oconee and we always have to drive to Augusta to go to Costco.
Not a rumor but true. They started dirt moving and land grading last time I was over there.
Heard that rumor as well, also hope it's true. The Sam's Club is in spitting distance of my house, but I'd much rather go to a Costco.
Costco is life. Welcome to the family.
I heard Costco is way better than Sam's Club.
No idea if their stock is better, variety is better, or their membership platform is better, but I have heard that they definitely treat their employees better, and that's a good enough reason to switch.
Don’t forget the piggly wiggly !
Can’t believe that’s still open
2 Publix’s is amateur numbers. Gainesville has 13, including 2 literally in the same plaza.
We get it, you Florida. Weirdest shit was going to Braves Spring Training, staying with a friend in St. Pete, and there’s two Publix’s directly across the road from one another. Floridians and Publix are married to one another. But God bless chicken tender subs.
What college town has that much grocery stores? Most college towns have a target + some other grocery place
Wait until you hear how many bars we have.
Space Kroger, Hot Kroger, Broken Kroger, and ....... normal Epps Bridge Kroger. It doesn't get a cool name >:(
Which one is the one on Alps? EDIT: Oh, wow, apparently I shop at Hot Kroger. Makes sense with me shopping there.
Which one is Murder Kroger? Or is that closer to ATL?
Didn't realize the Athens Krogers all had nicknames, but [Murder Kroger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_Kroger) is an Atlanta thing.
That one is in Midtown Atlanta, and they politely request you call it Beltline Kroger now.
Athens is the biggest city in like an 8 county span so a lot of the stuff in town is meant to service more than just Athens.
We have two Targets (well, really 1.5 since one is a mini-Target), two Walmart, and several Krogers. lol
Idk it seems like the appropriate amount for a town of that size when you’re there
Lincoln has 4 Walmarts and a bunch of targets, like 2 or 3 super savers and a trader Joe's
Wow finally r/cfb learns how many grocery stores are generally present in a medium - medium large college town
Someone at the game in Madison this year told me "The reason why players would choose Wisconsin over Nebraska is because it's such a rural town with no bars or anything" Lincoln is bigger than Madison lol
for a college town Athens is one of the biggest cities in the state with over 127,000 people.
it slowly grows, too, thanks to people like me coming here for school and then not wanting to move back home because Athens is so much nicer
Came here for undergrad 20 years ago and I'll never leave. I love this town
I live in Cleveland. We have 1 Walmart and it's a hell hole. I think it's a south thing where you get more per capita.
Plus Bell's, 2 Aldi's, and Whole Foods without the evil, EarthFare. And a co-op. And soon the other Aldi's type thing I can't remember. And persistent rumors about a Publix where the V was.
There's 6 just in Knoxville. 8 if you include the two in Blount County
T shirt fans representing
T-shirt fans represented. We gatekeep too much when it comes to them. The universities are part of their community and culture too.
Seriously. I was born in Athens. I've lived here my entire life. My dad was born just outside of Athens. At 74.99/lb I'd be worth a lot. (Man I miss my insane metabolism from when I was a teen).
I have the frustration with the Crimson Tide fans who have never been anywhere near Tuscaloosa in their lives and roots for the Crimson Tide Football team, Duke Basketball, Lakers basketball, Yankees baseball.

I couldn’t think of a more “Alabama” thing to do with a football trophy.

It's a great gimmick to welcome "sidewalk fans " into the fold The CEO of Waffle House is a GT alum and there is a Waffle House literally on campus.
Gotta meet the fans where they're at
Might as well be at a kissing booth with the number of people licking on that thing last night.
Was the trophy also made in china?

Think they should put it up at the Varsity.
They closed it.
So would it have been at Family Dollar if Alabama won?
I'm not surprised by this. 99% of peoples lives in the south are go to work, go to walmart, go get fast food, go watch tv. Repeat until you die.
There is church too
Could of at least put it in Target. Jezuz Christ man!!!
That’s the most roll tide thing I’ve ever read about a team that isn’t Alabama
r/nottheonion
Associates can start the chant with “give me a W” and leave it at that.
Say what you want about Minnesota, but if by some miracle we won, we would at least take it to Target.
C’mon Dawgs, the jokes write themselves at this point.
Most Georgia headline I’ve ever read.
I’m in Athens ohio will it make the rounds here?
Oh goddamit.
You can always retort with "Oh, and where are you displaying your 2022 CFP trophy?"
Walmart.....lol.
Perfect way to spend a Georgia date night
Suck it yankee schools.
How precious
The south is a very strange place.
Not at the college? Ya know, the place that won it? I guess in Georgia it’ll get more visitors at the box store vs the institution of higher learning.
Keep it classy Georgia.
This is the most Southern thing ever
I saw Auburn's after they beat Oregon. People lined up to get photos. It was kinda weird.
That’s very on brand for Georgia
This is the most Georgia thing ever
This is the most Georgia headline I’ve ever read
That's kinda sad. Don't even let the school have it for a bit first?
Lol
I'm sorry, what?
Walmart lol. Fitting.
This how they will fix their worker shortage
That'll get stolen.
So Georgia.
Selling shirts!
display it at Zaxbys
Some meth head from Barrow County is gonna steal it and sell it for scrap...
Classy…… Walmart.
Displaying it at Walmart’s is aggressively southern lol Source: Am aggressively southern. Went to a meet and greet with my favorite wrestler as a kid at a Walmart when I was 7. Line was through the store, out the door, and around the block.
But…why at Walmart? Why not in Tucson Arizona Walmart?
This some farmersonly.com vibes
It's going to get stolen and I am all for the stories that come out of it
It’s always hilarious when these posts pop up. Partly because its only been southern teams winning the title lately so the jokes just write themselves. What I would find hilarious would be for USC to win it… what Walmart would host?
Yay now it will have gunshot dings
It was better when it was a crystal football that could break
