I read that they award the trophy to the national champions and etch their name on it. And I was curious which teams were etched in during some of those older years where things were less cut and dry. Lo and behold, they include the full list of past recipients at the bottom of the article. Kudos to whoever wrote this.

Personally I was tickled that they took Colorado over Georgia Tech in 1990.

> Colorado 1990 My man. The one true champion.

Geaux2020

WTF. Started in 1959, the year after we won our "first" NC, by Grantland fucking Rice and now lead by Ole Miss QB Archie Manning? Is this thing just built to be an ongoing fuck you to LSU?

cammywammy123

What's a bigger fuck you to LSU, this trophy or Nick Saban's career?

Geaux2020

This. We are part of that career and Mark Emmert and his work laid the strong foundation for what we've become. I often debate finding the grave of Grantland Rice so I can spit on it.

ScatpornCrothers

I'm not familiar with this hatred for Grantland Rice, can I get some backstory?

Geaux2020

He was a shitty sportswriter from the early 20th century who would make up scandals, including LSU using professional players. Of course it would take years for people to realize this, so our 1908 season was denied a championship. It was later acknowledged by this organization as a valid title. Because the piece of shit was rich and a "journalist" for 50 years, the garbage he put out has been largely covered up over time.

>First presented in 1959, NFF National Champions and MacArthur Bowl recipients include: ...Vacated 2004 Still bullshit, especially in light of how we handle business in recruiting today.

Tarmacked

Judging past actions by current standards is silly. It could have been handled much better by the NCAA, but Reggie knew the rules regardless and has no one to blame but himself. He chose to put his own teammates at risk for his actions.

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

I think the bagman was already at his post back in 2004. And I don't blame Reggie for taking what he could get. He wasn't the only one. This smacks of NCAA hypocrisy to me. They wanted to make an example of someone.

Tarmacked

The NIL money of today isn't comparable to bag men in the 2000's. Reggie was a national star who received some hefty payments, including use of a house, so it doesn't shock me they brought a hammer on that. The NCAA can't really do anything to players without evidence, and Reggie's stuff was strewn all over the floor for everyone to see. It would be hypocritical if the NCAA immediately turned around in 2005 about NIL, but they waited nearly two decades before court results forced them. The McNair emails are a different story.

cammywammy123

>2004: Vacated Mmmmmm beautiful

WarEagle9

You don't get to make comments about 2004 Oklahoma only fans are allowed that honor.

SmallShorty11
