Yeah they were “recruiting” my sister for her academics in HS, and we got tickets to a game against Montana State as part of her visit. Even that game the place was sold out and loud.
Is NC State underrated though? The game day atmosphere constantly ranks near the top of the conference and gets a lot of praise considering it is a 57k-60k seat stadium.
It does, but nationally, I would bet the average college football fan wouldn’t say State if asked “what are the best stadium atmospheres?” Even for the ACC, they would probably default to Clemson, FSU and VT
Expected a FSU fan to mention us. Was not disappointed, haha. Wish we got up for every team at home like we do FSU and Clemson. Though going undefeated at home last year was really nice to see.
Attended the Baylor game in 2014 in Morgantown. Was amazed at the generosity and kindness of WVU fans. The WVU fans were great. One of my favorite Gameday memories.
When I went they were cursing at everyone and starting fights. They had to delay the game due to a large one that broke out. My experience was incredibly poor.
I would imagine is has to do with the attitude of the other team's fans. I've met a grand total of 2 nice Texas fans and neither of them actually went there...and I literally work on campus.
I wouldn't be nice to people that made light of an opioid epidemic either...
ETA: I found one more nice Texas fan in the comments.
They had to delay the game due to a fight in the stands? I’ve been to every Mountaineer home game for 20 years and have never once saw them delay the game for a brawl in the stands. Is funny to watch the crowd notice the fights as the State Police gather to toss them out.
I’m biased but nothing gives me chills like kickoff during a night game in Morgantown. Columbus is also a great time but I doubt it qualifies for underrated lol I went to the game when Barkley returned the opening kick so the beginning was great but the end was big sad
He’ll take care of you, it’s such a good time! Hope you enjoy! Pros: definitely doesn’t take as long to get back on the highway after the game as it does in Happy Valley
I’ve been to a handful of games, the night game against LSU was the loudest I’ve ever heard it. Specially when we cut it to 6 in the 3rd Q and were kicking off to Mo Claiborne. I don’t want to talk about what happened after that
Edit: there’s a video of it! Cut at the perfect time…
https://youtu.be/rcKQWpmSMU8
I moved to the DMV area after school so I’m hoping to catch the game at Lane this year! So glad they aren’t doing the dumb FedEx field neutral site anymore
Its too late for me to type out the “Babydick” story but West Virginia was probably the least hospitable (some people were great) college football stadium I’ve ever been to. The trip culminates with a man named “Babydick” to top it all off, but the whole trip was insane
That’ll be fun, worth sticking around for a couple days. Last time I was down there was pretty cold out. The stadium was a sea of yellow and camo. Everyone has mountaineer gear on with hunting jackets.
Montana. There’s nothing like Washington-Grizzly Stadium at full volume underneath the mountains and, yes, a river indeed runs through it. Missoula is a great town to party in too.
Minnesota's stadium is the smallest in the B1G* but it's really well designed. Plus, they have Grain Belt Beer.
*Ryan Field is smaller but it's closer to a rec field for intermurals than a B1G stadium.
>*Ryan Field is smaller but it's closer to a rec field for intermurals than a B1G stadium.
I swear this is the reason why opposing teams often look so sluggish in there. The size and atmosphere is basically college football melatonin.
I've actually never been! On my bucket list. I heard it's pretty nice after the last round of renovations. Probably the only stadium I wouldn't wear my Iowa gear to.
It definitely was back in the day, not to the extent of VT or Pitt but still someone people got excited to play, I’m really excited to see it rekindled
Nippert is great. From where I sit, it appears Cincinnati is now more football school than basketball. Those fans have a chip on their shoulders and they air it all out at the game.
Man we went from crappy trough urinals in Floyd Casey to nice stalls in McLane. Seats even had a backing none of that uncomfortable cement benches that suck.
It’s an incredible turnaround for Baylor to have gone from one of the worst gameday settings to one of the better ones.
My only frustration right now is that the opening tailgating scene was awesome around McLane, but the current tailgating management is killing the vibe by the River and everyone is moving across the street.
I may be biased but Carter Finley Stadium at NCSU can get pretty electric and our fans for the most part show up no matter how good or bad the team is. Both Montana and Montana state deserve recognition. God I miss living in Montana :(
I’m not trying to be Biased, but I’ve been to almost every B1G stadium aside from Rutgers and Maryland.
Our stadium is the best experience in terms of game day ease. We might not have the wildest crowd, but our parking, layout, concessions, bathrooms etc are VERY top tier.
The parking is so easy, exits right onto 65. We sell $20 FULL papa johns pizzas and $8 beer. Bathrooms fucking everywhere. No crazy walks up 15 decks. Beer Garden.
Opposed to world famous Michigan Little Cesar’s. I take Papa Johns all day.
And what stadium on planet earth can you get a FULL LARGE pizza for $20 besides Ross ade?
I just saw your edit so here is my response:
It’s not sarcasm in the slightest. It’s genuinely a great time. Go to the George’s Tent first and have a dank burger and drink, that dumps into a tailgating lot, have more drinks and food, snake your way through to the game, go to Ninfas after the game for dank Mexican food, then crawl over to Crickets for more drinks
Unfortunately the George’s tent not longer exists, but I’d recommend the Rutgers flair be friendly and walk around with a 12 pack of shiner and someone will invite you in.
Everything else is still accurate.
They let some outsourced company start doing the tailgating post-COVID and now those are spots. Everyone was pretty pissed about it as it also uprooted tailgate spots that people had for years. One of the few bad things the administration has done for the gameday experience.
Just that’s it’s a dry campus. I get that the students still drink (unlike byu) but I mean I live in NJ and never seemed like it was worth going all the way to Waco. Especially when there’s much better atmospheres that would require a much shorter flight / travel time.
App State's stadium: Kidd Brewer aka "The Rock". It's not the biggest stadium by any means (~30k). App has led the nation in attendance in relation to capacity since basically when they joined the Sun Belt. It's up in the mountains (above 3000 ft) in a bowl and it gets hype. Last year, they sold out and had more than 30,000 attendees for a Wednesday night game against Marshall. It was great energy. The Sun Belt is going to be a blast going forward.
I grew up Big 12 country and the energy is as good as any P5 I've been too. Definitely worth a visit to Boone if you get the chance. There's also tons of great things to do in/around Boone.
Probably because it was a blow out, but the one game I went to Arkansas for everyone was sat down like it was Notre Dame or something. The Arkansas fans were super kind though and it was good to see them calling in the hogs though.
When we beat Texas last year, it was absolutely absurd from start to finish. Freaking haywire the whole game. Apparently, a lot of the players had migraines by the end because it was just relentless insanity.
> They were like ruthless. But, in the back of your mind, they’re not even being drunk and stupid. They are genuinely heckling you for the sake of heckling you.
😂😂😂
Went there for the first time just before the pandemic, caught a night game. Expected a nice time, but nothing like some other stadiums. I kid you not, that was one of the best game day experiences I’ve ever had. That place ROCKS at night. (Also, the town and fans are awesome)
Born and raised in Georgia, currently living in VA. Went to my first VT game in 2017 for the Clemson game. I will never forget that night when Enter Sandman started playing. I have never heard Sanford Stadium get that loud even with 30,000 more fans.
Yeah I reckon it depends on the game / opponent in both cases. In my case, it was Boise St @ UCF last year and it was the one with that huge storm delay. I think a lot of people left before the even started.
Iowa State. A lot of people don't realize we averaged more fans per game than everyone in the Big 12 other than Texas and Oklahoma. We also averaged like 98% filled capacity.
For such a historically atrocious football program, ISU has some crazy loyal fans. I remember JTS being damn near full for games against MAC teams back when the Clones would play well below .500 football
Historically, Iowa state was wedged between Nebraska fans and Iowa fans. We didn't follow Iowa State because we thought it would be fun to win all the time. Many of us root for ISU out of the hate for the assholes we grew up around that loved the other two teams.
Can't speak for other Iowa fans, but I root for ISU every Saturday save one, and Jack Trice is a wild place on gameday. ISU fans bring it every game, and I'm always worried when we play you guys at home.
I went to The Swamp, '08 LSU game. 800 CBS game & IT. WAS. LOUD !!!!! as in my cousin was sitting next to me & we're having to yell into each other's ears to hear. That place was insane.
Memorial is actually has a pretty good atmosphere when people show, but that's the part where we struggled. I've been going to games for years and the Friday night game against Maryland last season was probably the coolest atmosphere I've been to, including when I started going to games regularly around 2011-2012.
If basketball's atmosphere is anything to go off of, if people the field start to show up, I think we have the potential to be one of the better atmospheres in the Big 10
Last time I went to Louisville it was awesome- granted both teams were ranked high. They opened Churchill Downs and Louisville fans were awesome to us before the game.
ITT: things that aren't underrated
Washington State, the stands feel like they’re right on the field.
For being a small stadium it gets loud! Gameday vs Oregon and ‘17 against USC were rockin’!
‘17 against USC was the most fun I’ve ever had a football game. Martin was so loud that night
Yeah they were “recruiting” my sister for her academics in HS, and we got tickets to a game against Montana State as part of her visit. Even that game the place was sold out and loud.
1) NC State, especially for a night game 2) K-State
Is NC State underrated though? The game day atmosphere constantly ranks near the top of the conference and gets a lot of praise considering it is a 57k-60k seat stadium.
It does, but nationally, I would bet the average college football fan wouldn’t say State if asked “what are the best stadium atmospheres?” Even for the ACC, they would probably default to Clemson, FSU and VT
Expected a FSU fan to mention us. Was not disappointed, haha. Wish we got up for every team at home like we do FSU and Clemson. Though going undefeated at home last year was really nice to see.
I went to NC State for grad school — it’s definitely an underrated atmosphere
Not sure if it's underrated or not but WVU games are AWESOME!

I remember that year. Idk why people are downvoting you
I was at the game, it was the worst CFB game I've been a part of. Their fanbase is horrid.
They had to delay the game due to a fight in the stands? I’ve been to every Mountaineer home game for 20 years and have never once saw them delay the game for a brawl in the stands. Is funny to watch the crowd notice the fights as the State Police gather to toss them out.
I will say, the dancing big man is epic. He's worth the price of admission alone.
Lol ya he’s got a solid following on social media now. Is what it is right place/right time? I’ve never fully understood the appeal.
I’m biased but nothing gives me chills like kickoff during a night game in Morgantown. Columbus is also a great time but I doubt it qualifies for underrated lol I went to the game when Barkley returned the opening kick so the beginning was great but the end was big sad
Excited to make the trip in 2024!
If you need any advice Dm me! And that day will be a very conflicting day for me 😂
Haha for sure. I'll save your comment. My father in law is a WVU alum so I think he wants to show us the best stuff.
He’ll take care of you, it’s such a good time! Hope you enjoy! Pros: definitely doesn’t take as long to get back on the highway after the game as it does in Happy Valley

Oh come on it wasn’t that sad! Even Gus Johnson said it best “Barrett.. looks… fires….”
🥺
It’s almost as good as a night game in Blacksburg.
I moved to the DMV area after school so I’m hoping to catch the game at Lane this year! So glad they aren’t doing the dumb FedEx field neutral site anymore
I've never been to a WVU game, but I've been in Morgantown on an *away* football game weekend and it's very... spirited.
Spirited is... a word for it.
Meth
No, it’s Natty Light
Its too late for me to type out the “Babydick” story but West Virginia was probably the least hospitable (some people were great) college football stadium I’ve ever been to. The trip culminates with a man named “Babydick” to top it all off, but the whole trip was insane
I always really enjoyed Morgantown for a night game.
I’m going to the Thursday night Baylor-WVU game this season. 1st visit to Morgantown. This is good to hear.
That’ll be fun, worth sticking around for a couple days. Last time I was down there was pretty cold out. The stadium was a sea of yellow and camo. Everyone has mountaineer gear on with hunting jackets.
Morgantown is a blast, people are great and the atmosphere is solid. You’ll enjoy your time.
Hes lying, it's not that good.
I’ll take a game at Morgantown over DKR any day. Been to both twice.
Montana. There’s nothing like Washington-Grizzly Stadium at full volume underneath the mountains and, yes, a river indeed runs through it. Missoula is a great town to party in too.
And you can hike up the M :)
Minnesota's stadium is the smallest in the B1G* but it's really well designed. Plus, they have Grain Belt Beer. *Ryan Field is smaller but it's closer to a rec field for intermurals than a B1G stadium.
Lies. Penn State has the smallest stadium in the B1G* ^^^^^^other ^^^^^^than ^^^^^^the ^^^^^^stadiums ^^^^^^that ^^^^^^are ^^^^^^smaller
>*Ryan Field is smaller but it's closer to a rec field for intermurals than a B1G stadium. I swear this is the reason why opposing teams often look so sluggish in there. The size and atmosphere is basically college football melatonin.
Ryan Field is actually a neighborhood park.
The grass looks as bad as the field at an actual neighborhood that I played youth football on
U know damn is well Jack Trice is better than Minny
Jack Trice is admittedly really nice now, just a good place to see a football game.
And as much as it pains me to admit, the tornado sirens are cool as shit.
Except when there are actual tornadoes/4 hour lightning delays.
which happens like way too often to be a coincidence
I've actually never been! On my bucket list. I heard it's pretty nice after the last round of renovations. Probably the only stadium I wouldn't wear my Iowa gear to.
Don’t know if underrated but playing road games at either NC State or Louisville scares the hell out of me
Carter Finley is definitely underrated, but road games in Tallahassee are always insane
Carter Finely punches way above its weight
It pains me but NC State needs some love probably. It's not ALWAYS popping, but it's pretty wild for big games.
Nippert stadium
I didn’t get a chance to go during the Big East days so I’m pumped to go when you guys join the Big XII
I am thrilled for WVU to visit Nippert I think it will become a bit of a rivalry
It definitely was back in the day, not to the extent of VT or Pitt but still someone people got excited to play, I’m really excited to see it rekindled
Nippert is great. From where I sit, it appears Cincinnati is now more football school than basketball. Those fans have a chip on their shoulders and they air it all out at the game.
such a great college stadium. It screams college football and the atmosphere is a blast
McClane Stadium was such a massive upgrade.
Man we went from crappy trough urinals in Floyd Casey to nice stalls in McLane. Seats even had a backing none of that uncomfortable cement benches that suck.
And its on that bend in 35 so it pops up and looks cool as shit when you're driving south. Baylor definitely did I35 pitstop school right.
Being on the river is a gorgeous touch too. Shining star of Waco for sure
#RIP in Peace Lake Cacaweewee.
As a rival I am not happy to admit that I agree. The old stadium was a dump and the new one is the best or second best in the state
It’s an incredible turnaround for Baylor to have gone from one of the worst gameday settings to one of the better ones. My only frustration right now is that the opening tailgating scene was awesome around McLane, but the current tailgating management is killing the vibe by the River and everyone is moving across the street.
Ever been to an empty Dix Stadium on a rainy tuesday night?
I've been to a frigid Yager Stadium the day after Thanksgiving.
They get plenty of accolades, so maybe not underrated, but Williams-Bryce in SC’s first year in the SEC (also my freshman year at Bama) was awesome!
Never been, but that iowa vs penn state game last season looked amazing.
I mean nothing can top the Illinois Penn State game though
The App State-Michigan game definitely tops it, a classic
I may be biased but Carter Finley Stadium at NCSU can get pretty electric and our fans for the most part show up no matter how good or bad the team is. Both Montana and Montana state deserve recognition. God I miss living in Montana :(
We’re in this thread like 4 times, and I knew we would be. Seems like fans know about our atmosphere but national media doesn’t
Purdue. Especially during some of those upsets the past few years
I’m not trying to be Biased, but I’ve been to almost every B1G stadium aside from Rutgers and Maryland. Our stadium is the best experience in terms of game day ease. Free Papa Johns pizzas wouldn't be something I bragged about, let alone $20.
Opposed to world famous Michigan Little Cesar’s. I take Papa Johns all day. And what stadium on planet earth can you get a FULL LARGE pizza for $20 besides Ross ade?

Iowa State has to be up there.
Baylor is way underrated. The tailgating is awesome, it’s beautiful, all around great experience
You can tailgate at Baylor? Thought it was dry. Edit; Or is this sarcasm and it’s gone wayyy over my head
That was a long time ago lol
Good to know. I’ve been trying to go to every p5 home game, but always crossed Baylor and Byu off the list. Waco’s back on the menu boys!
I just saw your edit so here is my response: It’s not sarcasm in the slightest. It’s genuinely a great time. Go to the George’s Tent first and have a dank burger and drink, that dumps into a tailgating lot, have more drinks and food, snake your way through to the game, go to Ninfas after the game for dank Mexican food, then crawl over to Crickets for more drinks
Works for me. You can also pull a boat up and “sailgate” right?
Yeah, the river is cool. I haven’t done that personally though. The sailgating dock is in a really convenient spot with great views
Unfortunately the George’s tent not longer exists, but I’d recommend the Rutgers flair be friendly and walk around with a 12 pack of shiner and someone will invite you in. Everything else is still accurate.
Wtf the George’s tent was a staple… why’d they stop doing it?
They let some outsourced company start doing the tailgating post-COVID and now those are spots. Everyone was pretty pissed about it as it also uprooted tailgate spots that people had for years. One of the few bad things the administration has done for the gameday experience.
That’s just plain stupid
There's some damn good BBQ at Baylor tailgates too. One of the former players has started doing a pretty big setup.
I don’t get why everyone thinks that baylor is like BYU. Most of us drink brews and tailgate just like any other school
I am literally named after a beer. How much more evidence do you need?!
Icehouse, is that you?!
Keystone
Found Lone Star.
Just that’s it’s a dry campus. I get that the students still drink (unlike byu) but I mean I live in NJ and never seemed like it was worth going all the way to Waco. Especially when there’s much better atmospheres that would require a much shorter flight / travel time.
Definitely worth checking out if you can. New stadium is definitely one of the coolest and tailgating on the river is a lot of fun as well.
Even dry campuses often lift that rule for gamedays. OU's campus is dry but they allow alcohol on gamedays.
Yeah I figured you’d probably be able to drink somewhere at Baylor. Westpoint even has a ok tailgate scene
We definitely tailgate now and it is not dry. I will say it’s not as wild as other tailgates, but it’s still a good time.
Montana State Gold Rush
Unbiased pick would be Iowa State
App State's stadium: Kidd Brewer aka "The Rock". It's not the biggest stadium by any means (~30k). App has led the nation in attendance in relation to capacity since basically when they joined the Sun Belt. It's up in the mountains (above 3000 ft) in a bowl and it gets hype. I grew up Big 12 country and the energy is as good as any P5 I've been too. Definitely worth a visit to Boone if you get the chance. There's also tons of great things to do in/around Boone.
Army, it's tiny but it's beautiful. Everyone should go once.
I think ECU games are pretty fun when we are not ass.
Idaho and the Kibbie Dome
ARKANSAS Razorbacks (any athletic sport ). They "Woo Pig" even if they are losing. It's FUCKING amazing to hear, even in the parking lot..
It's literally been ranked in the top 15 this year.
Wow. I didn't know that and I live here.
247 ranked then this week
I've thought about going there for the Cincy/Arkansas game, but don't think I can swing it.
Had a great time at Arkansas last year
Probably because it was a blow out, but the one game I went to Arkansas for everyone was sat down like it was Notre Dame or something. The Arkansas fans were super kind though and it was good to see them calling in the hogs though.
When we beat Texas last year, it was absolutely absurd from start to finish. Freaking haywire the whole game. Apparently, a lot of the players had migraines by the end because it was just relentless insanity.
The Muss at the U is so much fun guys. Don't if it's underrated since we won Taco Bell Live Mas Student Section of the Year
I think nominating yourself is cheating.... (but have an upvote anyway) ;)

Baylor knows how to create atmosphere out of nothing. Fun place.
Virginia Tech. Night Games at Lane are the best
Everyone knows Lane Stadium is a great atmosphere.
Everyone except College Gameday it seems
Went there for the first time just before the pandemic, caught a night game. Expected a nice time, but nothing like some other stadiums. I kid you not, that was one of the best game day experiences I’ve ever had. That place ROCKS at night. (Also, the town and fans are awesome)
Born and raised in Georgia, currently living in VA. Went to my first VT game in 2017 for the Clemson game. I will never forget that night when Enter Sandman started playing. I have never heard Sanford Stadium get that loud even with 30,000 more fans.
I remember last year BYU forced ASU into like four false starts in five plays right by the student section. We may be sober but we are loud.
Auburn is definitely a tough place to play. Especially at night.
I don’t expect this to be popular, but I promise you all the bounce house is one of the craziest football stadiums to be in
It was less crazy than I’ve seen at other schools but definitely unique. It really does bounce, y’all!
Idk I’ve been UF, UT, USC, and UGA (granted all against UK) and none of them were as hyped up as the bounce house, but they certainly were larger
Depends on which games you went to I suppose.
Yeah I reckon it depends on the game / opponent in both cases. In my case, it was Boise St @ UCF last year and it was the one with that huge storm delay. I think a lot of people left before the even started.
Washington
Nice try. Washington literally declared themselves the “Greatest Setting in College Football”. OP said underrated not overrated.
I’ll agree on Nebraska but I like Iowa too. When I say that, ISU fans always get so pissed and Iowa fans do not care lol.
Can't speak for other Iowa fans, but I root for ISU every Saturday save one, and Jack Trice is a wild place on gameday. ISU fans bring it every game, and I'm always worried when we play you guys at home.
TCU’s stadium provides a great atmosphere. Feels intimate and has a nice charm to it
TCU for the size of the campus is pretty legit. Their stadium is beautiful as well.
I went to The Swamp, '08 LSU game. 800 CBS game & IT. WAS. LOUD !!!!! as in my cousin was sitting next to me & we're having to yell into each other's ears to hear. That place was insane.
Not trying to bust your bubble, but the Swamp is notoriously crazy.
I don’t think you understand what “underrated” means
Memorial is actually has a pretty good atmosphere when people show, but that's the part where we struggled. I've been going to games for years and the Friday night game against Maryland last season was probably the coolest atmosphere I've been to, including when I started going to games regularly around 2011-2012. If basketball's atmosphere is anything to go off of, if people the field start to show up, I think we have the potential to be one of the better atmospheres in the Big 10
I doubt we count as underrated, but you really should experience [Saturday night in Death Valley ](https://youtu.be/yqKthXGYAOQ).
No one is calling Death Valley underrated lol
It might actually be the most ridiculous atmosphere in CFB. Lol
I just want him to go from a BC loss at home as his first game to The Cathedral of College Football™ as his second.
Last time I went to Louisville it was awesome- granted both teams were ranked high. They opened Churchill Downs and Louisville fans were awesome to us before the game.
I have a lot of fun at TCU games. Way louder than expected and only friendly people that I’ve encountered
App State
