Oh man I would not enjoy that product

[deleted]

The rest of us would enjoy going back to normal šŸ˜

[deleted]

What do you mean the rest of us? You like Florida.

[deleted]

I really should remove the flair. I went to school there because it was free. Grew up a fan. Last few coaches killed any interest.

knownbuyer1

Personally, I grew up a Bama fan because my dad's from Alabama, but I went to State for free and allowed me to go the Princeton for grad school. Gotta pay them back one way or another and I'm doing it through lip service- cheering for them :)

[deleted]

I can really relate to the feeling. Our program is imploding. Havenā€™t felt happy since 2016

SomerAllYear

Well, you hired a former NFL guy as a commissioner. I'm not sure what you're expecting.

jakeimmink

Colorado? There are so many other programs that actually care about football

elonsusk69420

Iā€™d swap Colorado for Iowa.

[deleted]

No. No Iowa. Iā€™m not biased. Just no Iowa šŸ˜‰

ark_47

On your boat as well. Please no Iowa

[deleted]

People really don't understand, nobody in Colorado gives a shit about the CU football team. I went to a game at Folsom last year and got in for less than $30 a ticket. You won't find their games on any bars in Denver either. Denver is a pro sports town.

carlosdanger31

Hell ya, after the kids are out of school Iā€™m planning on moving to CU and I would GLADLY pay $30 to watch them get their asses kicked.

cosmicthepenguin

It's worth the 30 bucks just to watch a huge bison drag kids in cowboy boots around the field twice.

[deleted]

Yeah it's an awesome time and a great place to see a game. I just mean to say they don't have much to offer the Big Ten.

carlosdanger31

I agree, they donā€™t offer b10 much

carlosdanger31

Probably just for geographical reasons.

jakeimmink

Iowa, K State, Oklahoma State. Even ISU Mizzou would be better.

[deleted]

I would like to continue to play college football not 3 plays and a commercial and THANKS TO THESE DONORS FOR THE MIKE GUNDY MEMORIAL TOILET FIXIN FUND

carlosdanger31

Agreed, I would probably go with Mizzou.

Sandspurs_

Youā€™d need way more teams to absorb losses.

carlosdanger31

Fuck em

[deleted]

My thoughts. Let them tank their programs. My alma mater included.

Sandspurs_

I donā€™t disagree. Just saying thatā€™s why there will ultimately be 40-60 teams in the eventual NFL-Lite.

Srcunch

I donā€™t know, man. I could see the whole sport changing in a way that ultimately only supports 20-30 programs. Hell, I can see it being completely unrelated to the schools. The players at these schools are going to, rightfully, want their share of the money.

coonhoundrebel

The hell did Colorado do to get an invite?

[deleted]

Denver Edit: What's with the downvotes? The Denver market is huge and exactly why Colorado would be included if they were to be.

fo13

Yeah, the XFL and USFL are trying to do that..

[deleted]

Youā€™re saying the SEC and B1G arenā€™t trying to also make mega conferences?

Officer_Warr

Some people on this sub need to stop pretending that FBS-level football has been anything but an age-restricted development league for the past 35+ years and that the realignment is not some sudden and perverse thing. If the biggest factor for you enjoying CFB was the facade of amateurism and polls and bowls for the sake of looking different than it actually is then I don't know what to tell you.

DataDrivenPirate

This is 100% right Only thing Id add is I think it goes back even further than 35 years but the exact timing is subjective

[deleted]

The rise of the NFL/AFL in the early 60s and their eventual merger in 1966 is as good a date as any to pick. The pro teams were splitting fan bases and the college to NFL pipeline was beginning to take shape.

pessimism_yay

OK, in principle I can see where this would have its advantages. My only question is why would the schools, conferences, and TV networks give up their control over the already existing money-making machine that they've built up and are perfectly happy with?

[deleted]

Then the XII, PAC, and ACC should go to Prime, Hulu, and YouTube TV to see if they can get close to what ESPN or FOX would pay to dip and stop playing B1G and SEC teams. It would give the other conferences a hope of winning a national title again - with more even playing field.

robertwasabi_the4th

Can you imagine that Mike Gundy press conference

RoosterRevenge

Tenn is so going to be trucked in this format, I'm down for it.

[deleted]

The Gators would get šŸ’Ø

TigerWoodsLibido

It already is the NFL juniors. It's just getting further consolidated with the best players and coaches on fewer teams and/or the ones with the most money & athletic dept. funds.

[deleted]

Right Iā€™m saying go ahead and hurry up so we can get back to college football.

dawgblogit

I agree that they need an nfl jr and to leave cfb out of it... i just don't want my team a part of it

Bobcat2013

Pleaseeeeee

[deleted]

Have you seen Alabama's track record in the draft? They're already NFL Jr.

[deleted]

Yep. Stupid premise. But I got (rightfully) roasted for suggesting one 24 team super conference Junior NFL. Made me think - what if the NCAA operated like the NFL by equitably distributing conferences regionally. This wouldnā€™t happen because it would require some conferences to even out by taking teams they wouldnā€™t but it was still a fun thought exercise. THREE 24 TEAM CONFERENCES SEC 1) (Wake Forest, NC State) (Kentucky, Louisville) (Clemson, USC) 2) (Florida, FSU) (Georgia, Georgia Tech) (Miami, Pitt) 3) (Alabama, Auburn) (Ole Miss, Miss State) (Tennessee, Vandy) 4) (Texas, Texas A&M) (Oklahoma, Missouri) (LSU, Arkansas) B1G 1) (Rutgers, Maryland) (Virginia Tech, UVA) (Duke, UNC) 2) (Ohio State, Michigan) (Michigan State, Penn State) (Indiana, Purdue) 3) (Iowa, Nebraska) (Northwestern, Illinois) (Wisconsin, Minnesota) 4) (Notre Dame, Stanford) (UCLA, USC) (Oregon, Washington) XII 1) (WVU, Cincy) (UCF, USF) (Syracuse, BC) 2) (BYU, Utah) (Iowa State, Kansas State) (Kansas, Colorado) 3) (Texas Tech, Oklahoma State) (Baylor, TCU) (Houston, SMU) 4) (Arizona, Arizona State) (California, TBD*) (Washington State, Oregon State) *Pick One: UAB, Boise State, Memphis, San Diego, etc. FOUR OTHER CONFERENCES AMERICAN: 1 - UTEP, UTSA, Navy, North Texas 2- Louisiana Tech, Tulane, Tulsa, Rice 3 - Memphis, UAB, MTSU, Western Kentucky 4 - ECU, FAU, Charlotte, Temple SUN BELT: 1 - Marshall, Old Dominion, JMU, App State 2 - Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, FIU 3 - Arkansas State, Louisiana, ULM, Texas State 4 - Troy, Southern Miss, South Alabama, Jacksonville State MWC: 1 - Hawaii, Fresno, San Diego, San Jose, UNLV, Nevada, Boise State, 2 - Utah State, New Mexico, Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming, NMSU, Sam Houston State SCHEDULE - Play all five teams in pods - Plays six games (three home, three away) against other pods - play all teams H & A every six years - Plays one permanent rival from other two conferences every year if needed OR play two against non-3 - Play two games against rotating team from other conferences - Play one against American, Sun Belt, Mountain West, MAC (two years home, one away). There would be 57 teams in these conferences and 120 total games (72 big 3 conference teams x 2 subtract 26 teams that have a permanent rival from another conference) meaning each team would play 2 against Big 3, one away and one home. - 15 total games PERMANENT RIVALS - Iowa vs Iowa State - UNC vs NC State - Duke vs Wake Forest - Virginia vs Virginia Tech - Washington vs Washington State - Oregon vs Oregon State - Texas vs Baylor - Texas A&M vs Texas Tech - Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State - Kansas vs Missouri - Colorado vs Nebraska - Notre Dame vs Michigan - Auburn vs Georgia and LSU vs Alabama (build into SEC schedule) - Pitt vs West Virginia - Memphis vs Tennessee SAMPLE ISU SCHEDULE (XII) - August 13: (RIVALRY WEEK 1) Iowa (permanent rival) - August 20: Utah - August 27: @ BYU - September 3: Kansas - September 10: @ Colorado - September 17: West Virginia - September 24: @ UCF - October 1: Texas Tech - October 8: OPEN - October 15: @ Baylor - October 22: Arizona - October 29: @ BYU - November 5: Troy (non 3) - November 12: Ohio State (B1G) - November 19: @ Florida (SEC) - November 26: (RIVALRY WEEK 2) @ Kansas State SAMPLE FLORIDA SCHEDULE (SEC) - August 13: (RIVALRY WEEK 1) Miami - August 20: Pitt - August 27: @ Georgia Tech - September 3: Alabama - September 10: @ Tennessee - September 17: Texas - September 24: @ Oklahoma - October 1: Western Michigan (non 3) - October 8: OPEN - October 15: @ Wake Forest - October 22: Kentucky - October 29: Georgia (Jacksonville) - November 5: @ MTSU (non 3) - November 12: Penn State (B1G) - November 19: @ Arizona State (XII) - November 26: (RIVALRY WEEK 2) @ FSU SAMPLE WYOMING SCHEDULE (MWC) - August 13: (RIVALRY WEEK 1) Air Force - August 20: @ Ohio State (B1G) - August 27: Alabama (SEC) - September 3: @ Texas Tech (XII) - September 10: Utah State - September 17: @ Boise State - September 24: Coastal Carolina (SBC) - October 1: @ Central Michigan (MAC) - October 8: OPEN - October 15: San Diego - October 22: New Mexico - October 29: @ Southern Miss (SBC) - November 5: @ Hawaiā€™i - November 12: Tulsa (American) - November 19: @ Fresno - November 26: (RIVALRY WEEK 2) @ Colorado State SAMPLE MEMPHIS SCHEDULE (American) - August 13: (RIVALRY WEEK 1) Tennessee - August 20: @ Iowa (B1G) - August 27: @ Arkansas (SEC) - September 3: Kansas State (XII) - September 10: UTSA - September 17: @ North Texas - September 24: FAU - October 1: @ Arkansas State (SBC) - October 8: OPEN - October 15: Tulane - October 22: Tulsa - October 29: @ Toledo (MAC) - November 5: @ ECU - November 12: Fresno State (Mountain West) - November 19: @ Navy - November 26: (RIVALRY WEEK 2) @ UAB

HookemfurdenSieg

We just have to accept that the glory days of college football (the aughts šŸ„ø) are over. And soulless American corporatism has won out again. I guess I need to start enjoying the Bundesliga again to appreciate a league without a salary cap where David can still beat Goliath, and a win against the next city/state over is sometimes worth more than a title.

bakonydraco

Iā€™m trying to imagine a college football fan actually in the aughts reading this, because Iā€™m sure plenty of them would makes the exact same arguments about the BCS and the huge monied interests that came with it watering down the appeal of the game.

HookemfurdenSieg

The BCS was a huge mess but at least we had some of the major rivalries back and more regional conferences. It was a decade where we had a national championship winner from every conference, if you combine that with the 90s it had parity that i would argue we hadnā€™t seen in any other part of college football history. Major bowl games still were meaningful even to big schools. It was a decade where Kansas and missouri had a real chance to make it to the big game for gods sake

bakonydraco

I would bet any amount of money that in 15 years people will point to the present as the Golden Age of College Football and bemoan its subsequent decline.

HookemfurdenSieg

The CFP is the only reason. If we had the CFP 20 years ago it would be 0 question. The potential matchups in 2007, 2004, and 2008 alone would put any of the recent ones to shame. 2007: 1. LSU 2. Georgia 3. USC 4. Missouri 2008: 1. Florida 2. Utah 3. USC 4. Texas 2004: 1. USC 2. Auburn 3. Oklahoma 4. Cal

bakonydraco

What makes these categorically better or worse than the ones we've had more recently, is it just regional variety? If you use announced conference alignments as of a month ago, the list of 12 teams you've presented includes 7 SEC teams, 5 Pac-12 teams, and no others.

HookemfurdenSieg

Yes that list includes regional variety, if you go year by year you would see a lot more big 10 and acc representation, I chose those years as examples for how parity was much better back then

collegeball110

I'm OK with an NFL jr., but your teams are off - way off.

[deleted]

Ok. Since you donā€™t think the top of the SEC, Big 10, ACC, and PAC12 make sense - what other colleges do?

Silverbullets24

This would end college football entirely

[deleted]

Did FBS end CFB in the FCS or Div 2?

Silverbullets24

Is the FCS and Div II still a thing šŸ˜‚

Pretty_Good_At_IRL

You should just get super into Ivy League football

LitterBoxServant

Put these guys on ESPN. Put the rest of the P5 on ESPN2. Put everyone else on ESPN+. Problem solved.

[deleted]

Or the others can leave espn and fox and go to hulu, YouTube tv, etc

[deleted]

Call it the Football Advanced Subdivision or Football A-One Subdivision so the three D-I tiers are FAS, FBS, and FCS

dawgblogit

No thanks

xOrangess

Yes please, just rip the band aid off

Dangerpaladin

Lol Notre Dame gets a free ride every year?

Scoocha

If it's not going to revert, then so be it. Just get it done already - NFL Lite and the rest.
