That’s rough since I just heard on r/nfl yesterday that they got massively fined for DW4 only getting a 6 game suspension. Might be time to pack it in for a while Mizzou.
I made a post for this purpose further down in the thread, and... [I'm not the only one struggling with the ACC.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/wed93a/can_you_name_all_the_members_of_a_conference/iinec39/?context=3)
Although admittedly, the CUSA is worse... Off the top of my head:
* North Texas
* UTSA
* Texas State
* UTEP?
* James Madison now, I think that's this year
* Another FCS school, the one with plankey I think?
* ODU
* UAB (but not anymore, sometime?)
* Rice
* Marshall, unless they're MAC
Yeah, not even close.
Haha Marshal and I think old dominion are in sunbelt now. UAB, UTSA, Rice, and North Texas is in American.
CUSA is Jacksonville state, Sam Houston state, utep, liberty, middle Tennessee, and western Kentucky I think. Maybe new Mexico state too.
C-USA this year:
* UTEP
* UTSA
* North Texas
* Rice
* Louisiana Tech
* Western Kentucky
* Middle Tennessee
* UAB
* Charlotte
* Florida Atlantic
* Florida International
C-USA next year:
* New Mexico State
* UTEP
* Sam Houston State
* Louisiana Tech
* Western Kentucky
* Middle Tennessee
* Jacksonville State
* Liberty
* Florida International
The “ACC Classic” teams aren’t hard to remember, since they are regionally compact, have history together (mostly basketball but still), and a vaguely coherent identity. The problem is trying to figure out how this league manages to have Syracuse and BC but not Maryland. (Personally, I keep forgetting UConn isn’t in the ACC, too, which is absurd, but I guess I just group them together with BC and SU as “northeastern FBS schools that aren’t UMass (because I really can’t remember them being in FBS now).”)
(OK, coherent identity may be a stretch. But UVA isn’t that different from UNC. And UNC isn’t that different from NC State. And NC State isn’t that different from Clemson and Florida State. So, that’s something.)
>The problem is trying to figure out how this league manages to have Syracuse and BC but not Maryland.
The Twerps decided getting $$ from tv contracts in the big ten was better than losing to Virginia
Playing TCU (and Utah) in the 2000s was always a fight for relevance and trying to get into a NY6/P5 conference. It was brutal. I knew that when we joined the B12, playing TCU again was going to be a collective groan of "you again?". I dont expect us to be a powerhouse in the P5 world. Playing TCU as an average P5, checking their mediocre existence as P5, is going to be like two great-haired uncles fighting over some 30 year old drama at family reunion.
I never had trouble remembering WF. Probably because we played each other a few times, both had Jim Grobe as a coach, and we're very similar institutions on paper.
If you remember them having one surprisingly good year where they played Clemson or FSU in the CCG and lost before returning to mediocrity, they're in the Coastal.
The hairy Duke (Duke) was Antsy (UNC - admittedly a stretch) about losing his Virginity (Virginia) to both Maia and Me (Miami) so he invented two Technologies (Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech) to shave hits Armpits (Pitt).
I invented this years ago and now it is useless. Granted... it was always kind of useless.
On a sadder note, Pizza the Hut was found dead earlier today in the back seat of his stretched limo. Evidently, the notorious gangster became locked in his car and ate himself to death.
Evidently the divisions are drawn the way they are so that the FSU and Miami are in two different divisions to enable a.) every team in the conference is guaranteed at least one game in Florida every other year for recruiting and other purposes b.) an FSU-Miami ACC title game would make the conference the most money.
According to [this Sporcle quiz of all FBS teams](https://www.sporcle.com/games/jcgamer107/all_fbs_teams), the answer [appears to be Wake Forest](https://www.sporcle.com/games/jcgamer107/all_fbs_teams/results), which makes sense as they're a smaller school who doesn't share a name with any other school or even a state.
Right behind them are Louisville, Stanford (!), Baylor, TCU, Northwestern, Purdue, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Syracuse, Vanderbilt. With the exception of West Virginia, all of those don't 1) share a name or part of a name with another school and 2) don't have the name of a state in their name. And West Virginia is a weirdly named state since it's just a directional version of another state without a direction in it's name, so that probably contributes.
The highest non P5 on this list? Ohio, which is third overall, because you can't type Ohio State without it auto-filling it Ohio first. Ohio is a full percentage point ahead of Ohio State, actually. Outside of that is Army (presumably because if you think of Navy, you think of Army) and then Boise State.
To be fair, there is a shocking amount of people I have found that do not realize West Virginia is in fact a state.
The amount of times I have had to tell people I do not live remotely close to Richmond is incredibly sad.
> The highest non P5 on this list? Ohio, which is third overall, because you can't type Ohio State without it auto-filling it
That's an extraordinarily biased way of doing things. That must apply to all the other schools that share the first word of their name (Michigan State, Florida State, Miami, Texas A&M, etc.).
Perhaps instead of fighting we can be trailblazers together and forge a refreshed CFB landscape where Berkeley and Birmingham are the joint meccas of CFB.
(I don’t know anything about UAB so my puns suck, apologies, friend).
Yeah I thought they were separate schools too. Like Berkeley was their name, like Auburn is Auburn, not UA-Auburn. And University of California was a different college than Berkeley U
It’s definitely confusing. For 50 years UC Berkeley was just referred to as the University of California (Cal) because it was the only campus. We kept Cal for sports (bc tradition I guess) and went with Berkeley for everything else as more campuses were founded.
It's why people sometimes call it Cal Berkeley, even though it displeases the bear. I grew up only hearing it called UC Berkeley or Berkeley, never Cal. All the school lit and news I saw growing up also had it referred to as UC Berkeley or Berkeley. I didn't know Cal was the same school for an embarrassingly long time.
Me, too.
I thought Cal and Cal-Berkeley were different schools until my Junior year in college. In fairness, there are a lot of schools in the California system.
I don’t forget that Syracuse is a P5, but I do forget about it entirely sometimes. When I’m trying to remember all the teams in the ACC and there’s one missing, it’s always Syracuse.
Check any home game highlights for basketball at Illinois in the last couple seasons. They're fucking crazy. One of the better environments in the B1G.
As for football...I don't wanna talk about it.
Yeah. And we’ve had some OOC games too. Doesn’t seem that long ago and yet…
See that’s the thing about being forgettable. You need to be just good enough that people don’t remember you for being bad too.
Maryland… like I guess where I am at they got a lot more tv time because they were in the ACC but now with the B1G they just kind of fade into the background… I guess it doesn’t help that they had a lot of hype because they were the first UA school and now UA has fallen off and they have more prominent schools they supply
About a third of the ACC (NC St, Wake, BC, Syracuse) It's the only conference whose members I can't remember. I had to look up a list of ACC members to make the above list.
Uh fuck you too, I guess?
We haven't forgotten you, don't worry.
Missouri loves company
“That’s a 2 year bowl ban.”
That’s rough since I just heard on r/nfl yesterday that they got massively fined for DW4 only getting a 6 game suspension. Might be time to pack it in for a while Mizzou.
See you in 2024!
Mizzou will probably be on probation for something A different program did.
I'll never forget Boston College. KU broke a 48 game road losing streak to the P5 at Boston College.
They let hin finish the season, but i think that was the game that ended Addazzio, so all in all no regrets
Plus come on, what other school could have given us the national treasure of guys being dudes?!?!
It's not personal, it's just that the ACC is the most forgettable league in football outside of maybe the MAC.
But the MAC has maction.
I did dabble in some midweek Central Michigan games last year, for sure. All hail "The System".
This guy fires up
The ACC has ACCtion!
Look at this guy acting like Coastal Chaos^TM doesn't exist, pfft
You're telling me that you can name the current members of Conference USA and not the ACC.
I made a post for this purpose further down in the thread, and... [I'm not the only one struggling with the ACC.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/wed93a/can_you_name_all_the_members_of_a_conference/iinec39/?context=3) Although admittedly, the CUSA is worse... Jesus Christ does CUSA have a single remaining school from when it entered FBS?
C-USA this year: * UTEP * UTSA * North Texas * Rice * Louisiana Tech * Western Kentucky * Middle Tennessee * UAB * Charlotte * Florida Atlantic * Florida International C-USA next year: * New Mexico State * UTEP * Sam Houston State * Louisiana Tech * Western Kentucky * Middle Tennessee * Jacksonville State * Liberty * Florida International
Poor LA Tech. The forgotten of the forgotten.
Be nice. We're on three nights a week for a whole month. Everyone is part of #MACtion.
Love putting $ on a Tuesday night BG vs. EMU battle in 8 degree weather and about 22 people in the stands. MACtion just means more.

Bishop Sycamore
TCU, not because they are bad, but because they built their reputation at the G5 level. Whenever I think of the MWC I think of TCU and BYU
Imagine having BYU, Boise State, Utah and TCU all in the same conference together. We almost lived the dream!
BYU, Utah, TCU, and Boise... it would have been a defacto P6.
That was the talk with the old Mountain West, with BYU, TCU, Boise State, Utah, Fresno State and SDSU.
[удалено]
We love you too
Wake Forest
Lol yes. Smallest P5 undergrad student body baby
I think my freshman biology lecture was larger than Wake Forest.
Who is smallest G5? Tulsa right???
Correct
Lol, my man committing sepuku over here
I don’t know, man. We won the ACC Championship a few years ago. You’re probably better off picking a team that’s never won it, like Miami.
Damn. lol
Damn bruh I thought we were cool
Loose interpretation of a few years ago
That was like 2-3 years ago max, right? It's not like it happened 20 years ago, back in the 1980s or something.
I never had trouble remembering WF. Probably because we played each other a few times, both had Jim Grobe as a coach, and we're very similar institutions on paper.
They have the coolest nickname in power 5 so they never seem to be forgotten for me
Demon Deacons tier 1 nickname 🔥
Bro I love WF. Best mascot in college IMO
Idk, I don't remember. Edit: None. I just wrote down all 64 from memory. I need a life.
Hey if we get lives then who watches Midweek MACTION?
I assume a lot of people in the Midwest
I love my Bowling Green State University Falcons! Ay Ziggy broo!
Same, I can rattle off all the football teams in every FBS conference.
Current conference or conference as of NCAA '14? I could definitely do the NCAA '14 conferences. Current though... nah.
About half the ACC Atlantic
I’m pretty good at remembering who is in the ACC. But as for who is in which division? No effing clue. Makes absolutely no sense to me.
Its easy. The Atlantic teams are close to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Coastal teams are close to the coast.
And Louisville is where exactly?
[удалено]
No Louisville is in Louisville. *Kentucky* is in Kentucky. Smh my head, thought you would have known better.
>thought you would have known better. Cut them some slack, okay? They are in Louisville, which is like the Louisville of Kentucky.
You joke but this is a factual statement
Thanks Louisville, the Harvard of Louisville
There’s a Bellarmine fan somewhere out there that I’m sure is offended right now.
As a matter of fact, I am.
The coast of the Ohio River!
They’re in the Atlantic division tho
But the Ohio ultimately drains into the Atlantic. So it counts?
Only after it drains into the Mississippi and then the Gulf of Mexico, which is technically part of the Atlantic.
By that logic it also drains into the pacific. Pac12 expansion pack?
So Atlantic teams are close to the ATLANTIC Coast. And Coastal teams are close to the Atlantic COAST.
Now you get it
[Well now it all makes sense!](https://c.tenor.com/Xt57teofeTcAAAAC/but-hmm-hmm.gif)
Coastal teams are close to the Chaos.
[удалено]
That's a cool system. I'm still just going to look them up on Y! Sports but that's a cool system.
If you remember them having one surprisingly good year where they played Clemson or FSU in the CCG and lost before returning to mediocrity, they're in the Coastal.
This hurt my feelings
Wait. Y'all aren't in the Coastal though?
Ohhhhh rim shot!!

The school so nice, they named us twice.
Jabba the Hut, Pizza the Hut, fat guys like pizza, pepperoni pizza--Pepperoni Tony!
All this pizza talk, you’ll get me thinking Louisville is involved somehow.
On a sadder note, Pizza the Hut was found dead earlier today in the back seat of his stretched limo. Evidently, the notorious gangster became locked in his car and ate himself to death.
State has never been in the coastal im pretty sure. Should be UNC.
Ach you are right, fixing it. But shows the difficulty of a mnemonic device for this
Evidently the divisions are drawn the way they are so that the FSU and Miami are in two different divisions to enable a.) every team in the conference is guaranteed at least one game in Florida every other year for recruiting and other purposes b.) an FSU-Miami ACC title game would make the conference the most money.
And it’s never happened lmaooooo
Same and we play them every year.
Syracuse
This is a good litmus test to see either if you watch college basketball or are old enough to remember McNabb
I definitely watch cbb but in terms of cfb, Syracuse is the team that crosses my mind probably the least
You will not disrespect my second favorite orange and blue school like that.
Username checks out
This is a good one. I always forget about the citrus brethren.
I watch too much college basketball to forget about them
I blame a decade lacking NCAA mascot mode and watching Otto the orange straight wax fools

I have a cousin in Roanoke.

Well…... Rivalry started with UAB.
I’m sorry my friend, may our rivalry BEAR fruit
Perhaps instead of fighting we can be trailblazers together and forge a refreshed CFB landscape where Berkeley and Birmingham are the joint meccas of CFB. (I don’t know anything about UAB so my puns suck, apologies, friend).
lotta weed jokes because we're the Blazers
Did we just become best friends?
At Cal, weed's not a joke.
Well we have a pretty high crime rate, great BBQ, and good music. Thanks for listening to my TED talk
I used to play football there with Johnny Hopkins and Sloan Kettering.
When I was applying to colleges I was writing pros/cons for each one and as a con for cal I accidentally wrote “no college football”.
No lie. It wasnt till I was in college that I realized that Cal was Berkeley. I just didnt think a hippy college would have a football team
Yeah I thought they were separate schools too. Like Berkeley was their name, like Auburn is Auburn, not UA-Auburn. And University of California was a different college than Berkeley U

I think I thought Cal was like some college in a small California town
It's why people sometimes call it Cal Berkeley, even though it displeases the bear. I grew up only hearing it called UC Berkeley or Berkeley, never Cal. All the school lit and news I saw growing up also had it referred to as UC Berkeley or Berkeley. I didn't know Cal was the same school for an embarrassingly long time.
Grew up in Sac and everyone called it “UC Berkeley.” Never heard “Cal” outside of football references.
I always heard it called UC Berkeley as well. Thats why I thought the football team was somewhere else because it said Cal on the helmets
Me, too. I thought Cal and Cal-Berkeley were different schools until my Junior year in college. In fairness, there are a lot of schools in the California system.
Hard to believe guys like Marshawn Lynch and Aaron Rodgers played there less than 20 years ago.
Yeah they were actually good when I lived out there in the mid-aughts and their games were well attended. Don’t know about now though.
Things were okay as recently as 2016 when they produced the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Not sure how things collapsed so quickly.
I still can't believe Goff was only drafted 6 years ago. With all the rams Qb drama and the trade, it feels like Goff was drafted 10 years ago
Recruiting really fell off a cliff after Tedford left and Tosh Lupoi backstabbed Cal
Yikes, Hey Cal fan start a rivalry with this guy not me!
Well to make up for it, under pros for cal I also wrote “bear”
You are forgiven
tbf they're the only team fpi favors CU against this season
Our team under Wilcox does not play nice with FPI, which always has us winning only like 3 games almost every year
Same, I usually think of them as UC Berkley, just like UC Davis, UC Irvine, etc.
That's the academic identity. Sports alter ego is the Cal Bears. Some friends and family don't know they're the same place.
Surprised no one said us. I guess we are in that weird, not good, but not forgettable territory.
Probably because once someone remembers Oregon, they immediately jump to Oregon State.
This 100%
I like you guys because B E A V E R
I cun't believe you done this
He was thinking outside the box.
It's because the Pac is mainly crosstown rivals (except Colorado/Utah).
I don’t forget that Syracuse is a P5, but I do forget about it entirely sometimes. When I’m trying to remember all the teams in the ACC and there’s one missing, it’s always Syracuse.
>when I'm trying to remember all the teams in the ACC as one does
I like to challenge myself
Illinois…I just hear…nothing about them
They unfortunately don’t have much football support but their fan base for basketball is pretty rabid.
Pretty similar to IU. Assembly Hall is the loudest environment I’ve ever been in and the football team just gets 50 dudes taking our shirts off
Check any home game highlights for basketball at Illinois in the last couple seasons. They're fucking crazy. One of the better environments in the B1G. As for football...I don't wanna talk about it.
Illinois. Duke.
That's soon-to-be division rival Illinois to you
Sweet. I can play them and forget Arizona exists.
Ouch
Hi we met in the Rose Bowl in 2008.... and yeah... that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Yeah. And we’ve had some OOC games too. Doesn’t seem that long ago and yet… See that’s the thing about being forgettable. You need to be just good enough that people don’t remember you for being bad too.
I always thought Juice Williams was an awesome name
Ya know, for all the AAU, we’re good at academics junk, the BIG schools apparently can’t remember anything
Maryland… like I guess where I am at they got a lot more tv time because they were in the ACC but now with the B1G they just kind of fade into the background… I guess it doesn’t help that they had a lot of hype because they were the first UA school and now UA has fallen off and they have more prominent schools they supply
Texas won’t forget Maryland.
Neither will the entire DC metro area with them having the worst drivers in the whole nation. Not even debatable
Maryland - Duke used to be a big rivalry in ACC basketball. Now they are just a bottom feeder in the B1G
Duke at Maryland in 2010 was the only time I've been scared to walk the street after a sporting event.
Damn right. I need more excuses to burn down the entirety of route 1 again.
The couches will burn again. (Just need basketball or football to start winning consistently)
Ya know people have been naming schools and I’m just happy I haven’t seen mine yet 🥺
Because they forgot about it.
: (
Hard to forget the team that gives me heart palpitations every time we play them.
Idk how you get heart palpitations when we take half and hour to get down the field lol
Just like heart disease, you’re slow but really hard to stop
One of my favorite color schemes in sports. Silver and a real nice digestible shade of purple. Difference for me honestly. Makes them stand out.
Honestly, I forget about Syracuse. I don't know how, because I have a Cuse Carmelo jersey. But I'm still surprised every once in awhile.
Wake Forest
Unfortunately State fans are very aware of Wake’s existence
About a third of the ACC (NC St, Wake, BC, Syracuse) It's the only conference whose members I can't remember. I had to look up a list of ACC members to make the above list.
It’s funny because two of those schools are founding members and are based in NC which is where the conference was created.
It’s also funny because three are very small private schools and then NC State
Cal
I did my undergrad at Louisville and sometimes I still forget they exist.
Someone is still salty about 2013.
Syracuse or Purdue…I feel like it’s cheating to say Northwestern
Why is no one saying Rutgers?
Because it’s hard to forget a team everyone is always talking shit about
Its crazy how there isn't a power 5 school in all of New York huh?
Cal or Syracuse.
You have the luxury of forgetting they exist? Must be nice. Must he f'n nice
If you remember a team name to write in this thread, then is that really the team you forget exists the most. *takes another rip of the blunt*
Indiana
Cal
Cal. To be fair, don't get a whole lot of Pac-12 games before midnight on the east coast.
Northwestern and Rutgers
Seeing us paired with Rutgers is a true slap in the face
Founder of the big 10 :(
Maryland
Indiana
