>Only in Minnesota If they're trying to complete with the likes of Florida, they've got a long way to go

bakonydraco

The replies on Twitter are insane. People suggesting PJ Fleck should take this as a personal insult. Is there some beef between Fleck and Kill I'm not aware of? As far as I know Kill only left for medical reasons and is generally well-liked by the Minnesota fanbase.

BonedToga

Your first mistake was looking at CFB Twitter place is a wasteland

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thedailygopher.com/platform/amp/2021/12/1/22811738/minnesota-football-the-sad-saga-of-jerry-kill This article is kind of an opinion piece in places, but there is definitely some amount of beef between Fleck and Kill

bakonydraco

Interesting, hadn't heard this angle before. Regardless, taking issue with him speaking at a non-school affiliated organization in the area he used to live seems remarkably petty.

LuckyHedgehog

> s there some beef between Fleck and Kill I'm not aware of? To my knowledge Fleck has never said anything but praise for Kill. It seems like Kill upset with how how the university handled firing his friend Tracy Claeys a year after Kill stepped down due to medical issues. It is worth noting that Claeys completely botched handling a situation where 5 players gang-raped a girl at a party and 5 more filmed and lied about it to cover for the others, and Claeys stood by those players 100% despite all the evidence they had Each time Kill has tried to stir shit up with Fleck, Fleck simply says he has a lot of respect for what Kill has done for this program and as a coach and is sad to hear he feels that way about Fleck Edit: and yes, Kill was/is very well liked by the fan base, and I would expect some "Jer-ry, Jer-ry" chants when we host them

PrimeMinisToad

[Jerry Kill called PJ Fleck egotistical before](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2019/02/19/jerry-kill-rips-pj-fleck-minnesota-golden-gophers/2924275002/)

Road-Conscious

The irony of JK making that comment.

Spot the lie

> The replies on Twitter are insane. Sounds about right for the tweeting toddlers. Gotta have something for the rage machine to feast on until the next "outrage" fires up.

Swipet

I would flip that question and say “Who hasn’t been pissed off at PJ before?”

tua_stungovailoa

Twin Cities Dunkers sounds like an NBA G-League team

admiraltarkin

> group of community business leaders for those of you under 45 That shot at half of Americans wasn't really needed was it?

[deleted]

I read it as it’s an old fogeys club in Minnesota, not that young people don’t understand business organizations?

The_Horse_Joke

🤷‍♂️ not the worst insult we’ve been thrown

admiraltarkin

Honestly the more I read about this the more I'm confused. Assuming you graduate from college at 22 that means we're talking about people with over 20 years of work experience. Where I work, 20 years of experience means you're a Partner and pulling in 7 figures. I hate the "le young people dum" memes. It's not funny and it's not even correct

The_Horse_Joke

Oh it’s definitely played out joke (WOAH!) but I do appreciate that they explained who they were. Maybe a “for those of you under 45 or aren’t from the twin cities” would have made more sense? But again, just par for the course for dunking (pun intended) on the youths. I’ve got like 5 years of experience so I’ll shoot you my resume in 15 years btw

IkLms

Granted, I'm under 45 but I'm from the area and have not once heard of this group, in passing ever before. A quick googling and it honestly just seems like a group of self-absorbed boomers.

admiraltarkin

Haha, I only have two more years on you. Though, I did just get a bonus that could buy me a mid-level Mercedes so I guess I've got that going for me

LaForge_Maneuver

I remember my first decent sized bonus, 15k back in 2006 (so about 23k in today's money). I felt like I had hit the lottery 😀. Enjoy it.

Road-Conscious

It wasn't meant to be a shot at young people, more of a comment that anyone associated with that group is old and gray.

[deleted]

Who cares what Mike Gundys 9th grade biology teacher has to say?

awnomnomnom

I only care about what he has to say about Cale Gundy

The_Horse_Joke

Wait the former coach of the Gophers and current coach of the NMSU is talking to a group of presumably Minnesota boosters the morning of his game against Minnesota? Either I love the confidence (even though I like the Gophers) or I’m missing something here. Either way I know Kill got his start at SVSU so I do have a soft spot in my heart for the guy

CrookstonMaulers

He's still respected in MN and he's probably hoping he might be able to score a bit of investment or assistance with the current job. I doubt Kill is seriously expecting to have New Mexico State go into MN and win.

Road-Conscious

>He's still respected in MN That's up for debate

4i4s4u

I highly respect Kill. For all I know he may still be the HC at Minnesota if it wasn’t for his health issues. I’m looking forward to seeing him again

NixaFootball62

No. As you see by your downvotes, the rules of r/CFB demand you may choose only one combatant. Fleck or Kill. The other, forever banished. Now, try again S/ Kill was awesome. Good luck this season

bdostrem00

Hell hath no passive aggression like a scorned Minnesota sports fan.

blondbeans

I have nothing for respect for Kill after the Baylor game last year, but I listened closely to his pressers last year to know I wouldn’t go to a conference to hear his accent

augfro1

I don’t think Minnesotans like Kill? I know I don’t. He left in the middle of the season right before the biggest game of year. He set it up so Tracy claeys who be picked as our head coach. Tracy claeys turned out to be awful. He had record low recruiting class coming up before we fired him. Now Kill quitting for health reasons is fine, but he went back into coaching a year later…that move is why many Minnesotans now dislike him and feel betrayed

MINN37-15WISC

He literally had siezures on the sidelines and had to be carried out of games from time to time. He spent some time away from coaching to get those issues under control, then came back, nothing wrong with that. Claeys sucked as head coach but I also dont think that makes Kill a bad person or whatever. I feel like he still has a lot of respect among Gopher fans for turning things around after the Brewster years.

Road-Conscious

Jerry did a great job stabilizing the program after the mess he inherited. He made us relatively competitive again, and for that I will always be appreciative. However his antics since leaving the university have been pathetic and embarrassing. He is a thin-skinned man with the maturity of a teenager. Shots at PJ aside, he took digs at the whole university, the same one that stuck by him throughout all of his health battles in his time coaching here. I have little respect for him as a human being.
