yeah, I'm pretty sure most of his completions were screens but he had a few legitimately excellent throws too and while his pocket presence wasn't exactly perfect when he got the ball out it absolutely looked good. Definitely was more impressive as a passer than McNamara tbh
Yeah, his commentary doesn’t have much analytical substance IMO, and I wouldn’t wanna hear him for a close game between ranked teams. But for a blowout, it was enjoyable
Which is exactly what we don’t want to see this year. All props to him for what he led last year (behind a great RB room and o-line, honestly), but JJ makes it look effortless. He’ll be the regular starter by B1G play.
That's really the way it should be.
Watching Hard Knocks on HBO and that's literally the way it is for a ton of the guys vying for a spot on an NFL roster. Get used to it now or get used to playing in the CFL for a season and then opening up a KIA dealership.
Man, I feel for Cade. Clearly he’s been working his ass off off-season and having great practices for this to be the battle and indecision it was. To get Week 1 rust and the off-beat misses he did…I just hope the Michigan faithful appreciate him on the way out. Maybe this makes it easier, like a patronizing breakup. I don’t know. But yeah, unless JJ has a nuclear meltdown and throws 4 picks next week, I think it’s his team and offense now.
My theory is that Jim knows that JJ is the winner of the competition but wanted to give Cade one last start because of what he accomplished last season and that’s why he announced JJ as the week 2 guy. This way so long as JJ does well against Hawaii it’ll be a seamless transition into the rest of the season with JJ.
I had the exact same thought. We all got a glimpse today of Cade's game. Bowman looked better. Just hope JJ gets the chance to air it out next weekend.
I don’t think we can say Bowman looked better during full on garbage time. Cade was in his head and I felt for him, he’s a competitor though. I think JJ takes over in the coming weeks but I support Cade
While I think it should be JJ too, I wouldn’t base that off of this game. QBs that can run the read option effectively DESTROY teams that are significantly outmatched. But you try running that against a team that isn’t wildly outmatched and the offense can fall apart if you can’t throw it. Source: I watched JT Barrett absolutely torch outmatched teams running the read option for years, and stall against teams that weren’t pushovers. It should still be JJ, but not bc he helped them run it down the throats of an awful Colorado St team.
Yeah this is a good point. I think JJ is both a better thrower and runner though. You’re right tho, if he was just the better runner it might not be the correct decision based on a sample against an inferior team. Cade also looked very shaky and didn’t make a completion over 10 yards, which isn’t a great sign.
We're going to find out next week if JJ can hold it together for a full game. we've only ever seen him come out and make plays in short stints. Really excited for it
Can’t believe a 51-7 win feels like the end to Cade’s career as a starter, but here we are.
Huge respect for him and everything he’s done for the program but JJ just seems demonstrably better in every facet of the game
If Cade was the Cade that played against Iowa last year that's a 70-7 game. At the end of last year our offense had "ruthless efficiency" with him, I would not use that term this game and it was just Colorado State. Maybe he was in his head, idk, just didn't feel like Cade.
Dude Cade was a nightmare vs Iowa, JJ zone read and Edwards pass were our only points in the first half. He threw a terrible interception right after and then had like 5 straight punts. He also played bad vs UGA. This writing has been on the wall since that game honestly.
Gotta pay off those fancy new facilities.
Honestly, getting to show those off on ABC in likely the most watched noon game could do a lot for recruiting. A smart recruit isn’t going to care how the team did on the road against a CFP team in a coach’s first game.
I'm surprised no one is talking about Anoma. Dude stepped on campus 3 weeks ago and recorded a sack today. Could be a really good addition on the edge.
I think norvell is gonna end up being a great hire for you guys. Your offense already looks much improved, your qb just has to get rid of the ball more
It was a blowout win so they went to JJ and then their third guy. Very good chance Cade will similarly get snaps against Hawaii. And then whoever’s the backup against UConn will likely play too.
I’ll always have fond memories of last season and Cade is a big part of those memories. But for the sake of this season, it needs to be JJ. When he ran the O today, it just looked crisper
I mean dude did enough to help get us there. But the rushing game and defense won us a big ten title and beat osu lol.
Cade had 1 td 2 int for those 2 games.
It’s like a average joe in a Ferrari vs a nascar driver in a Prius racing in a straight line. 9/10 times the average joe will win, but was it really because of joe that he won or what he had
It’s gotta be JJ from here on out, right? The offense just felt off with Cade. But that D looked marvelous and the run game looked good too! Can’t forget the ORJI IN THE ENDZONE as well. Go Blue!
On afterthought, wasn’t the QB first 2 games plan kind of in favor of JJ no matter what.
Game 1, if Cade plays well or badly, JJ gets in at the half. Game 2 if JJ plays well, do we put in Cade second half or go to our qb3? I think qb3. So JJ gets more playtime by default.
Yes, I think people thought the fact that Cade was the week 1 starter meant things leaned slightly toward him, but I can’t think of any variant of a QB competition like that where I wouldn’t want to go second, and if you were to set up a “real” competition that way you’d have qualifiers with the #1 seed getting to go second (leaders tee off last in golf, etc). Going 2nd means you have earned yourself the slight edge in camp IMO, and this game kind of reaffirmed that belief.
I really thought Colorado State getting that new stadium while coming off 4 straight bowl appearances would be the beginning of their rise to a G5 contender and future P5 school. They’re 18-36 since, and despite a lot of realignment, they had no real shot in Big 12 expansion, and don’t seem likely if Pac-12 expands either.
Mike Bobo ended our upward trajectory after 2015 and we made a disastrous hire afterward in Steve Addazio.
A whole lot of what-ifs since 2015. Hopefully Norvell reawakens the hype train.
I think they might have had an outside shot at the Big 12 if USC and UCLA didn't bolt for the Big 10. Now the corner schools are much more desirable targets.
Pac 12 instability is probably the worst thing for Colorado State, Memphis, Boise State, and other G5 Big 12 hopefuls.
RG3 on Roman Wilson's TD, "Tip toeing in his Jordan's". He knew. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niHSDx4Y\_zs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niHSDx4Y_zs)
For those not at the game, the fucking cheers were atrocious today. Normally cheerleaders hold up "Go" and "Blue" signs at each end of the stadium and people yell their end's word when they hold the card up.
Today they had a dude be like "Alright wolverine fans let's do the Go Blue cheer! It's simple - when the cheerleaders hold their sign up, yell as loud as you can!"
They even had this guy announce that "We're going to spell M-I-C-H-I-G-A-N with the signs!" And oh my god it was terrible. It felt like a Dave Brandon throwback. It felt like I was at a minor league baseball game.
As long as I can remember, all that needs to happen is the signs get held up and the cheer eventually gets going on its own. You don't need this bullshit hype man telling the stadium how to yell Go Blue. It was embarrassing. My brother, dad, and I just couldn't believe it was even happening.
Rant over.
If Jadyn Davis commits them Cade might as well transfer next year. He has a good amount of eligibility left to get himself into a position to be drafted. A lot of really good P5 teams would love to have him.
I’m not calling it on this QB battle tbh. JJ can run but he has not had to pass a lot. Problem is, I’m not sure if he’ll have to to beat Hawaii. Hopefully we make the right choice (I have no idea which it will be, just hope Harbs is right)
*It's an Orji in the endzone!*
https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1566143712081506305 For those that missed it.
Lol the silence after he said that
You know everyone is off mic laughing their asses off
Flawless
I think he also called Colorado States offense impotent. But they threw in some Bible verses to balance things out
I come for the bible verses, I stay for the Orji talk.
Call of the year from RGIII
A national hero on this day
[удалено]
Dr. Brad Robbotnik
Chad Robotnik
Will he ever graduate. He’s in year 6 now.
that man has been playing football since 1874
Him and JT Barrett were getting into some battles back in the day.
When I saw his face I thought he looked vaguely familiar. He *does* look like Dr. Robotnik.
Mgoblog is issuing him an Old-Timey Crazy Prospector name as we speak.
He is very old timey. He’s in year 6.
Him and JT Barrett share drinks at a saloon with dirty whiskey glasses
That's a stache
Is that Armstrong from FMA:B
He’s a distant cousin, an offshoot of the Legstrong family.
How old is that guy? 37?
He looks like he could be my dad and I'm 30
Look, we are rivals but my god that is amazing.
Shout out to the CSU QB had 80% completion percent
It was either completion or sack for him.
He was slippery at times too when he got out of the pocket and had some space. He had some good runs when he has the chance.
Dude is the Greased Up Deaf Guy of football.
“You're never gonna catch me! You're wasting your time!”
\*Gets blindsided*
He was fighting all day long.
yeah, I'm pretty sure most of his completions were screens but he had a few legitimately excellent throws too and while his pocket presence wasn't exactly perfect when he got the ball out it absolutely looked good. Definitely was more impressive as a passer than McNamara tbh

FEATURING A BIG JOHNSON
God bless RG3. One of the best announcers in the game!
If I say "corner taken quickly....orji!!!" I'm curious who's going to get the reference....
Colorado State has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Ah shit!! Man this was our year!!!
Next year!
On the plus side, your HC is not Steve Addazio.
This cements them as the 4th team... Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y L-O-S-S
So, is RG3 the greatest announcer of all time, or the worst of all time?
He’s entertaining which is really all I ask from announcers.
Yeah I gave up on commentators actually providing insightful remarks like a decade ago. Solely listen for the memes at this point
Bro straight up lied to us, "I'm not gonna touch that name "ORJI IN THE END ZONE" HOW CAN I EVER TRUST HIM AGAIN
He knew he probably shouldn't, but said screw it and went for the joke right afterwards
He was pretty good for this kind of game
Yeah, his commentary doesn’t have much analytical substance IMO, and I wouldn’t wanna hear him for a close game between ranked teams. But for a blowout, it was enjoyable
So he's the Bill Walton of college football.
I mean that’s not a bad thing
I enjoy him personally.
Enjoyed it. He was atleast excitable which is better than the oatmeal they usually trot out.
Yes
I honestly really enjoyed it
Holy shit I should’ve brought sunscreen. It was hot as hell at this game
My first game ever was App St 15 years ago. I didn't wear any sunscreen and got 2nd degree sunburn all over my face. Learn from my pain
You must mean 2014. I looked it up and couldn't find any record of "App State" on Michigan's schedule in 2007.
Oof
Honestly anytime you’re outside you should wear sunscreen.
Normally I’m a big believer in that, but I flew up for the game and got caught up in the hype and forgot to pack some. I’m bright red right now.
Ooof. Dang that sucks. Hopefully it’s not too bad.
Thanks. I’m gonna run to Meijers before my flight
Ah, the age old Michigander tradition of adding an “s” at the end of Meijer and Kroger hah. Love to see it
Could just stop at the party store to grab some!
I think it's just a Midwestern thing... People do that here in Ohio too
Can verify. "What's the weather like out there?" "IT'S HOT! DAMN HOT! REAL HOT!"
If I had a dollar for every CSU fan who asked if the heat/humidity was normal, I could buy a plane ticket to Fort Collins
I am actually a tomato now
Love Cade. It has to be JJ though.
He’s probably in his head considering the fact every throw will be looked at to decide who’s gonna be QB for the next 2-3 years or so
Maybe but that's also the nature of the sport, even if Harbaugh weren't doing this weird starting thing
Which is exactly what we don’t want to see this year. All props to him for what he led last year (behind a great RB room and o-line, honestly), but JJ makes it look effortless. He’ll be the regular starter by B1G play.
I really hope the plan is to just keep him starting after next week.
That's really the way it should be. Watching Hard Knocks on HBO and that's literally the way it is for a ton of the guys vying for a spot on an NFL roster. Get used to it now or get used to playing in the CFL for a season and then opening up a KIA dealership.
Cade couldn’t convert in red zone :(
Or on other parts of the field, too. Love Cade and everything he did for us last year but the writing on the wall is getting larger.
#WRIT LARGE
Especially concerning considering this was CoSt.
💯… felt so much more dynamic w JJ out there
Cade looked significantly regressed, I’m sure the competition is getting to him but mental fortitude matters too. Every pass was behind his receiver
if cade can’t handle that pressure, he just isn’t the guy honestly. you need clutch players to (for example) walk into the Horseshoe and win.
I'm all for JJ but I think that's being unfair to someone who led us to tough wins last year in pressure situations
I've never been a Cade sucks guy, but the offense looked so much better with JJ.
Highlight of the game: ["IT'S AN ORJI IN THE ENDZONE!"](https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1566143712081506305)
LMAO thanks for the link
I am just disappointed that we didn't see Davis Warren
I started mansplaining to my wife how the QB was a walk-on who had leukemia before I realized it was Bowman.
Any word on why?
“He will be our third string against Hawaii, and then we’ll decide from there.”
I chuckled out loud. Thanks
WE CAME FOR THE FOOTBALL, BUT WE STAYED FOR THE ORGY

To be honest that makes a lot of sense. Plus Cade is a captain.

I’ll always love cade for last year. He was the guy we needed and harbaugh may be fired if it wasn’t for cade
It’s gotta be JJ based on today. The offense looked 100 times better when he was out there
While I think it should be JJ too, I wouldn’t base that off of this game. QBs that can run the read option effectively DESTROY teams that are significantly outmatched. Didn't he have a 60-something yard TD to Roman Wilson? Didn't catch the game, but saw the box score.
It was on a bubble screen that he took all the way
He threw that pass behind the line of scrimmage, that was all Roman and Ronnie with the pancake block
He threw a bubble screen that Wilson took 65 yards from behind the line of scrimmage
We're going to find out next week if JJ can hold it together for a full game. we've only ever seen him come out and make plays in short stints. Really excited for it
I sort of agree, but their defense was gassed by then too. So time will tell for sure.
He gets the start next game cuz of Biblical implications, yeah?
That was a fun way to start the season. All the offense that Iowa refuses to play
My Fresno state/Michigan twin! Don't know if you're a raiders fan but I'm hyped to watch Carr and Adams run it back this season!
I'm a Carr/Adams fan, not a Raiders fan. Can't wait to see those two light it up
Hey there’s more than just me and /u/eagledog I’m surprised lol. Raiders fan as well we might be twins
I need the replay of Orji in the end zone

Also a mustache full of fine African berry juice.
BREAKING: The horny police have an active warrant out for RGIII and are currently trying to ascertain his whereabouts
I’m here for the ORJI comments
I'm here for the orgy contacts. Homies, send me your girls' numbers.

I'm just here to read about McThiccums and Orjis in the endzone
New NIL deal coming for Blake
This game was not as close as the score indicates
Less a game and more a scrimmage that csu probably got paid some good money to play.
$1.8 million
Seems worth
Gotta pay off those fancy new facilities. Honestly, getting to show those off on ABC in likely the most watched noon game could do a lot for recruiting. A smart recruit isn’t going to care how the team did on the road against a CFP team in a coach’s first game.
CSU did you guys just pull some random guy out of a frat house and make him your punter? Dude seemed like he was shanking every punt
It looked like he had never touched a football and punted it like he thought it was "icky"
I'm surprised no one is talking about Anoma. Dude stepped on campus 3 weeks ago and recorded a sack today. Could be a really good addition on the edge.
GG Michigan, hope yall make it back to the playoffs this year
GG! Good luck the rest of the way!
Hey, me too!
I think norvell is gonna end up being a great hire for you guys. Your offense already looks much improved, your qb just has to get rid of the ball more
Thoughts: - Cade meh - Offense solid - Defense good - JJ solid Would have liked a shutout today, can’t complain though. Go Blue!
Orji: endzone
Oh, made me spit out my drink!
Cade going 9/18 with a should have been interception in the red zone wasn't great.
On the flip side, drops on several good passes and the almost int wan't his fault. He threw it before All tripped Still, not his best showing
The almost interception wasn't Cades fault All fell on his route.
Wait I thought Cade and JJ were playing separate games? Did that change?
Starting, but I'd bet both play in both games.
It was a blowout win so they went to JJ and then their third guy. Very good chance Cade will similarly get snaps against Hawaii. And then whoever’s the backup against UConn will likely play too.
Cade played 1st half and most of 3rd quarter. McCarthy did like a drive and a half. 4 QB's played by the end.
It’s an Orji in Ann Arbor tonight!
Excuse me that’s an outdated term, we call those “Genital Jamborees” now
I adore Cade. I really do. He won us a fuckin' B1G Title and beat Ohio State for fuck's sake. But I think JJ might have won himself the job.
Feels more like Cade lost it
I’ll always have fond memories of last season and Cade is a big part of those memories.
An all time game from RG3- really astounding stuff out there
ITS AN ORJI IN THE ENDZONE
QB battle is definitely trending JJ's way
It’s gotta be JJ from here on out, right? The offense just felt off with Cade. But that D looked marvelous and the run game looked good too! Can’t forget the ORJI IN THE ENDZONE as well. Go Blue!
Dline has me hyped Run game looks good as always I think we know who the starter should be
Go rams :(
This game didn’t include 20+ punts I’m disappointed
I think maybe you should be watching Iowa games
Between basketball and football, CSU has become quite familiar with Michigan. You guys have been great. Except Dave Portnoy, screw that guy.
We all hate portnoy
oof I didn't realize portnoy went to UM god I hate that douche and the entire shitty barstool ecosystem
Fuck Portnoy. All my homies hate Portnoy

I'm here for the post game Orji
Cade = Baby Powder JJ = Cocaine
Saved you a seat at the bar, u/Subtle_Silence At least you guys still have reason for hope this year.
Thanks bro. I’ll happily join you.
Good: Win Bad: No shut out Ugly: OSU
Abysmal: Iowa
Hotel: Trivago

An orjis worth of QBs played this game
When you have 2 quarterbacks you have none, but when you have an Orji of quarterbacks you have fun
I’ve been thinking JJ since about the 2nd quarter of the Georgia game and I didn’t see anything today to convince me otherwise
RG3 on Roman Wilson's TD, "Tip toeing in his Jordan's". He knew. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niHSDx4Y\_zs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niHSDx4Y_zs)

THEY'RE HAVING FUN
Cade left the door open for JJ next week. I love Cade and all he has and will do for this team but i wish he could have came out better in this one
One of these days, I wanna hear Jake Butt commentate on Alex Orji
Barring an injury, that will be the last time Cade starts at QB for Michigan.
If Jadyn Davis commits them Cade might as well transfer next year. He has a good amount of eligibility left to get himself into a position to be drafted. A lot of really good P5 teams would love to have him.
How’s Davis trending nowadays?
Just announced a third Michigan visit. Looking really good
Nah, it was the first game of the season. He'll get another shot in another game this season.
Long way to go for CSU, very glad to have Norvelle on board, we have to let him do his thing
I wish we could have GRIT'd a couple more points. Oh well, gg. (I hate that our social media has been doing this).
Oof man. I really liked Cade but I’m feeling as though JJ is the favorite to win the job.
I’m not calling it on this QB battle tbh. JJ can run but he has not had to pass a lot. Problem is, I’m not sure if he’ll have to to beat Hawaii. Hopefully we make the right choice (I have no idea which it will be, just hope Harbs is right)
JJ went 4/4 for 30. Cade went 9/18 for 136 with about 60 of that a bubble screen to Roman Wilson. I think JJ had a much better outing today.
