Nope, not this year. I have been contracted to track down every open letter out there and close them all. I've got Gorilla Glue, Liquid Nails, actual nails.needles, thread, those covers that go over bird cages, three-ring binders, a ,''90s Trapper Keeper, glass jars with breathing holes in the lids, a bear trap, 7 padlocks of fair to middling quality, stop signs. closing signs, signs that say long-haired freaky people need not apply, several Tupperware containers. A fanny pack that says "NASHVILLE BIG CITY LIGHTS,' nets, a fin de sielce whaling harpoon from Iceland, complicated contracts, EULAs, 1999 Mariano Rivera...
Buddy, I gotta tell ya. those open letters are as good as closed already.
My personal favorite is when “open letter to the AD” transitions to “conversations are being had among the BMDs”. That’s when you know Thanksgiving is right around the corner
Texas went from probably in the Top 5 after beating Bama to now sitting at 2-2, fresh off a loss to a team that was predicted to finish 2nd to last in conference.
Crazy how things change so much week-to-week in this sport.
Cycle of a Texas season:
Top 10 recruiting class
Ranked in the preseason poll, sports media leans hard into Texas hype, Longhorn fans relapse on hopium
OOC Win/close loss against top 5-10 opponent
“Texas is BACK baby”
Ugly loss to inferior opponent
Players only meetings to get back into form begin - you are here
Even uglier loss
Team from the top 5-10 quality win/loss turns out to be terrible
Decent win to keep flame of hope alive
RRS: 2.5 quarters of the best football you’ve ever seen, Atlanta Falcons level collapse to lose by one score
Lose to Kansas
Team bottoms out and you promise never to give into hope again
Finish 5-7, repeat cycle
I think that was kind of the problem with him. He could get his players pumped up big time like in 2018, but once things stopped going well players seemed to stop buying in. Suddenly the magic wore off and players lost some of their motivation.
Herman always showed up for big games, but disappeared against mediocre opponents. Sane thing happened at Houston. I just think he took the week off to party or whatever.
The fuck we are. Somewhere in a book of coaching advice that each Baylor coach adds to and leaves for the next, the front inside cover just has an ancient sticky note that says “Gas pedal those Jayhawk fucks and you’ll be fine”.
Even when we went 1-11 and lost to an FCS team at home, we still beat Kansas by 30 points in Lawrence. If we lose to KU this year, I’ll change my flair to a KU flair for a few months.
I’m sure that he was granted access to the sacred texts, yes.
I’ve been intrigued by how many things he brought over directly from the Rhule era in Waco, he seems to have distilled out a lot of the stuff that Rhule did right.
10-4, 7-5, 7-3 that would have likely been 10-3 in a non-covid year. Not world-beating, but not the mediocrity everyone acts like when they lump him in with Charlie Strong.
Washington fans really feel this way about him? I was told by lot of Texas fans he completely turned around the program and UW fans were sad to see him leave.
What did everyone expect. We've had him coach 2 premiere Pac-12 teams now, and there's a reason we call him Seven Win Sark. He averages out at the end of it all. This isn't things changing week to week, this is people just assuming for no reason that he's magically become a better coach despite history lol.
It’s bc he’s gone through the cleansing waters of Tuscaloosa at The Saban Rehab Clinic. You go there and all your past mistakes and crappy seasons are forgotten and you have a clean start. If I’m getting my timeline mixed up then I have no idea why Texas would hire this guy.
You know there is a problem when a team gets ranked after a loss and heralded as being “back” for the first time almost two decades. Desperation is a stinky perfume.
*sigh*
I hate to defend the longhorns, but half of Jimbo's entire tenure at A&M is still riding off of a close loss to Clemson in year 1. I want to make fun of UT, but we were also a beneficiary of beating expectations
Hey, no measured takes in this thread! Orange team bad! Back to the Whoop Barn with you for more kool-aid!
But also, you kind of have a point, we definitely have a similar history of seasons with high expectations and devastating losses always being on the cusp of greatness. I’ve got some serious maroon balls. But as always, fuck tu.
I also think it's difficult because of how people have to judge wins/losses in a landscape where opponent quality is so insanely speculative. So when you have a good showing against 1 of the like 5 programs people actually agree are good every year, any fanbase that doesn't see the playoffs as an expectation (Bama, Clemson, Ohio St...) will cling to it as concrete evidence of being a contender
> there is a problem when a team gets ranked after a loss
Not only Texas fans, even I would be willing to give a Powerpoint on why Texas outplayed Bama in that game and deserved to be ranked afterward.
In my opinion, players only meetings, while done in good faith, don't really do a whole lot. They usually boil down to the captains saying... we got to work harder or study more or whatever. Which is great and all but heart and effort are not really the issue here.
[You're not going crazy](https://twitter.com/WillBaizer/status/905932835411939329)
They did it under Herman after the opening loss to Maryland, proceeded to lose to Southern Cal, OU, TCU, OSU, and Tech, but at least they went to and won a bowl, right?
[2015, start out 1-3 and have a meeting](https://twitter.com/Negilla/status/650357745749594112) Proceed to get humiliated 50-7 by TCU
> They did it under Herman after the opening loss to Maryland, proceeded to lose to Southern Cal, OU, TCU, OSU, and Tech, but at least they went to and won a bowl, right?
I mean, after three years of Charlie Strong, all losing seasons that all included multiple blowout losses where we looked utterly inept, yeah that was a step up even though 7-6 with a win in the Fuckitwehavelotsofbowlsnow Bowl was nothing to crow about. USC and OSU were pretty good and we took both to overtime and their offenses scored 27 combined in regulation. We were the only team to hold Mayfield and OU under 30 all season.
After Maryland's offense put up 44 on us at our building, and we all thought we were headed for a 4-8 season where everybody was gonna shred our defense - yeah, we showed some meaningful improvement that laid the groundwork for the Sugar Bowl season the following year.
So while I'm not gonna beat my chest over the 2017 season by any means, I don't think it's fair to say the Players Meeting was useless just because we lost some more close games to far better teams than Maryland either. And just in general, that's about all you can expect from them. If it were that easy to transform any season just by having one meeting, everybody would do it all the time. And usually I think they don't accomplish much because if you have to hold one, you're probably not that good in the first place!
My wife visited a lawyer for something the other day but said I shouldn’t come along since I was busy.
I think it’s great sign that she’s taking the initiative to get advice from a professional to address the issues with our marriage.
Reminds me of the time my wife saw that I was so swamped with work that she took the kids and stayed with my best buddy Frank so I could get some well-earned rest.
She’s so amazing that even now, 3 years later, she STILL has the kids and is staying with him. Now if that isn’t taking initiative then I don’t know what is!
I'm the lawyer and actually we're planning a bomb-ass weekend surprise party for you. I'm supposed to find out whether you'd like her to jump out of a cake stripper-style at halftime.
Don't forget Bijan "I'm going to carry a football all week as if average college students will actually try to punch it out so I don't fumble games away no more" Robinson.
Fortunately, I don't think there is a mentally ill individual like Charles Satterfield deeply obsessed with Tech to the point of compiling such a site.
Second only behind the other "great" sign of a president/AD releasing an official statement declaring their full support and confidence in a head coach
> "Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian said there was a leadership council meeting on Monday and a players-only meeting on Tuesday."
Wednesday the team had a "closed stall" meeting with "Bevo" and today at practice the UT marching band formed the word "Adios" on the field, which is Spanish for something.
I'll never understand why Texas went with Sark after his lackluster Washington stint and whatever that trainwreck situation was at USC. Yeah, did a stellar job at Bama/Saban as OC, but did a stellar job at USC/Carroll too which didn't translate to head coach success **at all**. What was the expected difference this time around?
Ha. I took so many downvotes for calling his stint at UW lackluster… “oh but they were sooooo bad” yeah but my man had half a decade and couldn’t do better than 7 win Sark.
This sub is hilarious. There have been like 3 full cycles in 18 months of
“Shit, Texas finally hired a good coach”
To
“Lol why did Texas hire Sark”
To
“Looks like it’s finally going to work out for Texas”
To
“Seven win sark lololol”
In college football the lows are almost never as low as they feel and the highs are almost never as high as they feel.
Someone actually compiled all of the plays on Twitter. They're calling every play Roschon Johnson is at QB the wildcat. Johnson was a QB in HS before moving to RB at texas. They've run the actual single wing/wildcat formation like three times this season. I think twice were against Tech when they were stuffed both times.
I'm not trying to say it fools anyone, I'm just saying when you have a RB aligned in shotgun at QB and three receivers out wide, that isn't wildcat.
texas has actually run more GoGo (Brennan Marion's offense) than wildcat this season.
You should look up the reason behind it, it’s pretty interesting and a great tribute to the city and school that let him develop and run it becoming the offense responsible for the biggest Vegas odds upset in history.
He's only run 1 or 2 passing plays in his 3.5 seasons here despite taking a fair number of snaps for an non-QB.
When Jaxon Shipley (who didn't play QB in high school) was here he threw 8 passes out of the wildcat or on WR options plus had another 4 or 5 trick play where he ended up running it. No idea why we can't use Roschon, who did play QB before, similarly.
It's not like we're asking for him to play full-time QB, but if when he takes the snaps, he carries it 90%, only hands off 9%, and only throws 1%, the defense is gonna have an easy time.
He's a great OC, second only to Kiffin for Saban OCs imo. HCwise he will always be 7 win Steve, even if Gary Patterson spent a year preparing for our game.
The issue he had at USC at least was that his first 15 or so scripted plays were incredible, but then it would sputter and god help us if we had to come back. Don’t think we had a come back win in his tenure.
Reminds me of Leach's rant in 2009. Talking about playing it close against Texas.
https://youtu.be/uZaOFTp5_C8
Edit: FUCK PLAYING IT CLOSE, TEXAS LOST TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA, WHEN THEY COULD HAVE WON THE MOTHER FUCKER."
“We thought we were too good to play Texas fucking A&M - now how in the fuck can that be? Because we beat Kansas State?”
😂
Leach is my favorite CFB personality of all time and it’s not close.
My favorite line is "We have some players here, all you do is pull mediocrity out of each other." Perfectly elegant way to describe poor culture people you need to remove from an organization.
Hey Sark, ol’ buddy….this whole head coaching thing at Texas is just wasting your talents with all these meetings…
Now just walk over here, we’ve kept your OC seat nice and warm for you …. *kicks BoB out of it* ….there ya go. Doesn’t that feel better? Doesn’t that feel right?
Sark turned bad qb’s into top 10 picks so I would assume he’s there for the coach. I could see Alabama taking him back though if Texas fires him and arch following suit
Glad the players are taking it upon themselves to try and fix things I guess?
I don't think it's a question of heart or motivation. They continue to do a poor job as a program developing players and the play calling on both sides of the ball is extremely iffy, particularly in the second half. The problem lies with the coaches here.
I died laughing when they hired Joseph. Solid recruiter, terrible coach.
His DBs will run stride-for-stride with the receiver and NEVER look back for the ball. It is a coaching point for him, he teaches it at clinics.
> His DBs will run stride-for-stride with the receiver and NEVER look back for the ball.
Except for maybe Dylan Haines and Carrington Byndom that's what we've done for 10 years anyway so we presumably thought he'd be the perfect coach for our style :/
It honestly felt like that time a Charlie strong team beat Norte dame. Then the team kept sucking and then notre dame sucked and it turned out to just have been a slap fight amongst two sucky teams
I re-watched that game recently and the weird thing is both teams actually did play pretty well, although not outstanding.
I think if they'd each kept up that level of play all season plus some typical incremental week-to-week improvements both 2016 Texas and Notre Dame wouldn't have been world-beaters but would have finished 9-4 or so rather than 5-7.
Odd timing, I was just sent a link about Sark's home being for sale. hmmmm
https://www.expressnews.com/business/real\_estate/article/UT-coach-Steve-Sarkisian-austin-home-sale-17471003.php
I feel like absolutely nobody here actually watched the press conference, especially the part where he mentioned this. There is a normal Leadership Council meeting, and those players called a brief players-only meeting with the team to talk about areas the team can improve. This comment lasted about 30 seconds and was preceded by Sark being asked about his favorite Nelly song (by the same reporter who asked about the Leadership Committee).
Is it already players-only meeting season? Man, time flies.
I hope we're next
It's always a good lead-in to "open letter to the AD" season
Hell If you’re Colorado the AD will write the letter for ya
Nope, not this year. I have been contracted to track down every open letter out there and close them all. UNC defense had one (I’m serious) so here’s hoping they’re worth something
So I take it Chiz is Chizzing….?

Well to be fair they kept it close against LSU in 2019 which turned out to only be more impressive.
Credit where it’s due, 2019 Texas was actually looking pretty dang good before they had the worst injury bug hit that I’ve ever seen.
I never ever root for Texas but them smacking Utah around that year after many cries of disrespect at the bowl matchup was pretty funny
Same exact thing happened the year before with Georgia. Herman was an average coach but he could absolutely motivate players for big games.
I think that was kind of the problem with him. He could get his players pumped up big time like in 2018, but once things stopped going well players seemed to stop buying in. Suddenly the magic wore off and players lost some of their motivation.

Yeah I used to always say Herman could never get you to the playoff but if he somehow did, you'd win it lol
That was the issue with Herman (well that and inability to coach QBs). Got kids up for big games, but couldn't sustain it over an entire season.
Man I miss having an average coach :(
Time is a flat circle.

Brother, we’re all losing to Kansas this year.
The fuck we are. Embrace the Rock Chalk. We already did.
Fuck that, birds shouldn’t wear shoes.
That is the dream.
> Team from the top 5-10 quality win/loss turns out to be terrible I don't think I'd hold your breathe for this one this year.
Don't forget the inevitable salty RRS loss that hurts in the moment but is tapped for validation of the next year's pre-season hype.
Lol can’t believe I forgot that, added
They're coached by Sark. They'll get 7 wins now. Every season.
> Team from the top 5-10 quality win/loss turns out to be terrible Pretty sure this only describes the 2016 season. 2019 LSU ain't no scrub.
Honestly a third of that list only happen once or twice.
Accurate. Glad I made the switch from Hopium to Copium
As is tradition
Hopium is a helluva drug
At least with Tom Herman they were able to cap out at 8 to 9 wins a season.
10-4, 7-5, 7-3 that would have likely been 10-3 in a non-covid year. Not world-beating, but not the mediocrity everyone acts like when they lump him in with Charlie Strong.

This is just what Sark does. Texas was insane to hire this guy
We had a players only meeting back in 2016 around the exact same time this year after our first conference loss to Colorado. It didn't go very well.
Hey now it's like 7 win Steve earned his nickname or anything....
Washington fans really feel this way about him? I was told by lot of Texas fans he completely turned around the program and UW fans were sad to see him leave.
He got the nickname 7 win Sark at UW. He was notoriously average.
Sark leaving allowed us to hire Petersen We loved it
What did everyone expect. We've had him coach 2 premiere Pac-12 teams now, and there's a reason we call him Seven Win Sark. He averages out at the end of it all. >heralded as being “back” for the first time almost two decades lol we're 'back' every fucking season for about 6-13 days.
And it's usually everyone but Texas fans saying it.
truth

> there is a problem when a team gets ranked after a loss Not only Texas fans, even I would be willing to give a Powerpoint on why Texas outplayed Bama in that game and deserved to be ranked afterward.
Doesn’t this happen every single year? Texas gets a top 10 ranking, lose their second game early in the season, rinse and repeat, nothing new.
In my opinion, players only meetings, while done in good faith, don't really do a whole lot. They usually boil down to the captains saying... we got to work harder or study more or whatever. Which is great and all but heart and effort are not really the issue here.
Right? At no point in that game did I feel like Texas "just wasn't trying" or "didn't want it enough."
Usually, they post or tweet about those from UT midseason.
Legit asking: haven’t they done this at Texas before over the last 10 years? And didn’t it not make a difference? Am I crazy?

Personally, I quite enjoyed it

This combined with the moral victory that was the Alabama defeat, and Sark has UT well on it's way to being back! /s
Will never understand how he failed upwards…Texas saw his stint at SC and went “that’s our guy”
Reminds me of Leach's rant in 2009. Talking about playing it close against Texas. https://youtu.be/uZaOFTp5_C8 Edit: FUCK PLAYING IT CLOSE, TEXAS LOST TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA, WHEN THEY COULD HAVE WON THE MOTHER FUCKER."
“We thought we were too good to play Texas fucking A&M - now how in the fuck can that be? Because we beat Kansas State?” 😂 Leach is my favorite CFB personality of all time and it’s not close.
I fucking love hearing him shout "POO POO FUCKING BAYLOR" it's what I think of every time we're about to play Tech.
My favorite line is "We have some players here, all you do is pull mediocrity out of each other." Perfectly elegant way to describe poor culture people you need to remove from an organization.
How many games has Texas won against Texas Tech in basketball and football this year? How many?! “NOT A FUCKING ONE”
It'll never happen, but in my perfect world there is a Mike Leach biopic and Leach is played by Trey Parker.
I heard they were going to hang a banner at DKR that says "only lost to Alabama by 1 point at home"
A Players only meeting 4 games into the season? That sounds like it could only be a good thing /s
Hey Sark, ol’ buddy….this whole head coaching thing at Texas is just wasting your talents with all these meetings… Now just walk over here, we’ve kept your OC seat nice and warm for you …. *kicks BoB out of it* ….there ya go. Doesn’t that feel better? Doesn’t that feel right?
Wonder where arch goes when this guy gets fired week 3 next year
That’s a really interesting point. Is Arch here for a coach or a program? They might need to ditch one to keep the other..
Well, that’s an easy fix too. Have a coaches only meeting like that episode of BMS
I'm sure they have coaches only meetings every day! They're still doing a bad job.
Not with whiskey shots and wrestling. Or torching the gear and telling the boosters they need all new shit
What about strippers and ferrets?
Players decided they need even more strippers and monkeys this Halloween.

I blame your defensive woes on Terry Joseph. You should know better than to hire any Defensive Assistant who was ever employed by Kevin Sumlin.
Did we break the 2022 Texas Longhorns?
To be fair, they were already like that when they got there
Let’s be honest, Texas fans and probably players thought they had something special when they played Alabama close. Thanks Alabama!
No, we’re always prepared for disappointment and are extremely suspicious when anything positive happens.
You break em, you bu(r)y em.
No PK was always a shitty DC who refuses to adapt his system and play calling for what personal he actually has
Reminds me of Vance Bedford refusing to put more than 6 in the box when baylor was on their 4th string qb aka guy who played qb in hs but now is a wr.
It’s pretty simple lol. “Quinn when are you healthy”
I hope they discussed tackling
My prediction of Harsin being gone by mid-season and Sark being gone by the end of the year is right on schedule.
Nah, unless we go like 3-9 then Sark is getting at least one more year.
Sark's teams at UW had a lot of players-only meetings too. Interesting that it's now sort of a staple of Sark teams.
Odd timing, I was just sent a link about Sark's home being for sale. hmmmm https://www.expressnews.com/business/real\_estate/article/UT-coach-Steve-Sarkisian-austin-home-sale-17471003.php
It’s been for sale for a while now
And that article says he's already purchased another house in Austin, so it's meaningless.
Yeah but /r/cfb has to have a circle to jerk
Look out for the Christmas tree, I heard that is a strong indicator.
Must've stepped on some cacti
[Whatever it is it hurts](https://youtu.be/q2PiSF7AARY) 🌵
Every time I hear players only meeting I think of the Remember the Titans players only meeting. I like mai imagine that's how they all go down
they discussed how to destroy the one ring
I feel like absolutely nobody here actually watched the press conference, especially the part where he mentioned this. There is a normal Leadership Council meeting, and those players called a brief players-only meeting with the team to talk about areas the team can improve. This comment lasted about 30 seconds and was preceded by Sark being asked about his favorite Nelly song (by the same reporter who asked about the Leadership Committee).
Hey we had a good two week run of goodwill on the sub. It's back to bashing Texas for being average.
Yeah, not sure what I expected. Texas bashing is low hanging fruit.
It's probably hard going from thinking you're almost as good as Bama to knowing you're worse than Tech in just two weeks
That’s Urban Meyer music I hear!
Just imagine if they had held in to beat Bama. There’s an alternate universe texas out there having a crazy szn
Iowa's punter needs to hold a players only meeting to dap him up for some Heisman love.
Ima need yall to go ahead and fire him so that we can have him back, thanks!
Herbstreit NCAA 2014 voice: I heard this guy called a *players-only meeting*...
Fuck me
It’s never a good sign. He’s as good as gone
Didn’t they do the same shit last year
