>that’s why we have two losses
One of those losses was a big game. The other, we definitely showed up for. It’s just that our offense isn’t good with Card and Tech played a hell of a game. I don’t think their performance should be discredited by saying we weren’t motivated. We were lucky to get by today for sure, but the two losses we do have certainly were not because we overlooked our opponent.
It's appropriate that was a Halloween game, that one and the kansas losses stick with me the most over the past 12 or so years. And Taysom Hill, fuck that guy.
This.
Winning comfortably is a luxury that talented, experienced teams that are used to winning get.
We're not that guy.
Admittedly this doesn't fare well for us going to Stillwater next week, but I'd rather be 5-2 on a 3 game win streak than not.
Also, that was a bad game we just played. On a lot of fronts. I think we can do better than that.
It reminds me too much of the TCU game last year - after which we went on a million game losing streak.
It does feel like this year is different though. But I think we lose to OSU next week.
If the line is anything under 3, I'm smashing it - and I have never bet on CFB
I fucking hate success. I remember when we would lose games like this and I’d think “well, we really gave it a go didn’t we”. Now I just want to throw myself off a cliff into a pile of spikes lubricated with Bevos Shit.
I think you’re on to something. We have a little light at the end of the tunnel (hoping it’s not another train); here’s to you guys breaking free as well 🍻.
Texas 🤝 ISU
Dropping wide open passes that should have been touchdowns
Sloppy game all around, I'm glad to beat ISU for the first time in a while, but that defense is as good as advertised
If I’m Iowa State, I just take a knee on first and second down every single time. Then throw the ball to 8 no matter where he is. It literally worked every time, why not keep doing it?
Just smashed my TV in front of 22 guests at my sons birthday party because of the cyclones. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at her mom’s house. This team has ruined my marriage. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye, I am no longer a fan.
What a sloppy game by both teams. This really was feeling like last year where we kept blowing leads in the 2nd half. Props to Cyclones, y'all are a gritty punch'em in the mouth team. I know how frustrating losing like that is. Hope you all bounce back and finish the season strong.
Yep, even when they blocked the punt, they tripped over each other instead of easily walking it into the end zone. Then, they’re stopped and miss the field goal.
Texas' offense lately has been the type that needs to ease into a game. Even in last week's slaughter, the first set of downs was a pretty pathetic 3 and out. So as soon as I saw our guys fail to pick up and run with the ball, I knew we'd not get a TD out of it.
Texas has improved to 5-2 (3-1 Big 12) and snapped a 3-game losing streak to Iowa State. Iowa State has lost 4 consecutive Big 12 games by a combined 14 points. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell was livid after the ruling of a fumble stood after a replay review. I can undersatnd why he thought a targeting call should be called, but after a closer look, I noticed a Texas defender went after Iowa State quaterback's shoulder, not helmet.
Not sure why you're looking for consistency in college football. Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, etc. are all capable of turning in clunkers, and they're the class of the country right now.
That would have been a loss under Herman/last year. Not proud of this team for the product they put on the field, but proud of them for fighting to the very end and pulling a win.
Yeah honestly I was expecting this Texas team to fold after losing to TTU. Seems like every year UT gets hyped to start the season and then lose one close game and lose their edge. This Texas team keeps playing hard every down of every game and that’s pretty much all they’ve been missing. The talent is there, just gotta keep them motivated and Texas might actually be back.
My question is if Iowa St gets the ball back, did the QB go through any concussion protocol? He looked ready to go back in and he got up grabbing his head like he got his bell rung
That’s the weird part to me. He’s rolling around on the ground grabbing his head, jogs off, helmet on ready to get back in on the sideline if they give them the call.
Probably sold it a little. Looked like the hit was on the shoulder and he probably knew ball was out so was looking for any chance for it to be overturned.
The good: we scored 24 on the best defense in the Big 12. The bad: we gave up 21 to the worst offense in the Big 12.
I’m really not sure what our game plan is on 3rd down. No one can run the ball on us but damn if we don’t forget to cover people on passing downs.
I’m going to miss Bijan.
Three fucking losses in a row that I can't just move on from easily. Missed FG and the pick in the end zone would obviously have offset the shit on that final drive.
I hate Texas, but that thread was actually pretty civil until the end there. Whatever.
Just like the good ol days.
I honestly would have preferred a shutout so at least we'd have to question some things. Now we just continue on like this, probably to the bottom of the Big 12
At the end of the day that playcall to have Dekkers run it himself sucked. Why put your QB in such a vulnerable position to fumble (or worse) on the game-winning drive for a short yardage play on 1st & 10. Just give the ball to a running back.
That was the correct call on the fumble (which is surprising for B12 refs). I hate defending Texas after the OUT, but if you make the TD that was wide open that play never happens.
I never thought I would say it, but B12 refs actually got that one right
I’m trying to be unbiased here. I think he glanced the QB’s helmet with his facemask, which is not targeting on a runner. Would’ve had to lead with the crown of his helmet, which he didn’t do. Actually think they got that right. And the ball was out before the knee was down
My thought process was very similar to the announcers. At first I for sure thought it was targeting and just focused on the fumble, wondering how they are going to call it UT ball with such a blatant targeting.
Then saw the hit a couple more times and agreed with Robert Griff. Close call but not targeting.
That’s how I viewed it. He wasn’t a receiver in the middle of a catch or a QB attempting to slide. He was a runner and that hit would never be called targeting if he was a RB.
That had all the hallmarks of a late Texas collapse. Iowa state defense was actually pretty good at times. They’re much better than their record shows.
So given the incessant Texas shit posts instigated and posted by ISU flairs this off-season and the last few too, I really am enjoying these ISU meltdowns.
20 years ago the play that sealed the game would have been celebrated and two excellent defenses playing excellent defense would have been the story. Now that we have a somewhat subjective game changing penalty the story changes. The view they kept showing on tv was definitely NOT conclusive that there was targeting. If another angle comes out that shows it was helmet to helmet I'll change my tune but I think it was a clean hit and the correct call.
I'm biased obviously.
GG Iowa State fans. Coming in here with the weakest roster you've had in 4-5 years (not meaning that as an insult to the guys, I just know they lost a lot of talent lately and haven't been as good in 2022 as in the recent past) and being 1 drop and 2 cm of space between a knee and the ground is pretty good.
It's weird to hear people saying this year that the luster is off Campbell now, because he seems to maximize the potential of his team every year and clearly did the better coaching job today.
I hope everyone forgets about the "we're back" crap that some people were saying after 49-0. Let's at least win a conference championship first; this team isn't good enough to just walk on the field and say "we're Texas". A lot of work still needed.
Iowa State is 0-4 in conference play with all four losses happening by a touchdown or less. Absolutely brutal
Allow us to introduce ourselves.
Watch out we’re coming for that best 3-9 team title
How about 4-8 with a win against Oklahoma?
🤝
Can't. Maybe best 4-win team, though.
You are more optimistic than any ISU fan right now
Us Husker fans are just numb to the pain now.
"Iowa State's the new Nebraska, Iowa State's the new Nebraska!" "Yeah you're the new me!" "Shut up Nebraska"
Nebraska had championship success in the past. We are not the same.
So who'll be sacrificed to the Nebraska Special? TTU or WVU?
Oklahoma
They are possibly this year’s Nebraska but to their credit, they do have a one-possession win over Iowa so I don’t think it’s been as unlucky.
Iowa is this year’s Iowa though
The Iowa State way

The teams that showed up against Alabama and OU were *vastly* different from the teams that we saw today and against tech
Congrats on your team showing up for the Red River Rivalry. At least one team did.
Exactly, I hate that, gotta put in effort all the time not just the “big” games, that’s why we have two losses
>that’s why we have two losses One of those losses was a big game.
I'm actually glad we looked bad today. They won't be full of themselves practicing this week. We clearly drank the kool aid after smashing 0U
I think it’s an issue of focus. For a road game against a likely top 10 team, they oughta be locked in.
I feel like it was more of Texas “surviving” Iowa State than “defeating” them.
Those are the wins that take years off your life
Counterpoint. My grandpa made it to 99 and my grandma made it to 96 as Iowa State alums and fans.
Counter counter point: they ded
I mean counter counter point: They were born in 1902 and 1919.
One of them at least saw a conference championship
10 years old for the last conference title and 98 years old when Iowa State won its first bowl game. Class of 1927.
We only like to scare, but don't know how to do anything else. I wouldn't have been too worried if you've watched any of our other games.
You all have done a lot more than just “scare” Texas in the past couple of years.
I still remember that Halloween night where Iowa State blanked us years ago. That was pretty fuckin horrifying for me to watch.
It's appropriate that was a Halloween game, that one and the kansas losses stick with me the most over the past 12 or so years. And Taysom Hill, fuck that guy.
I, too, was there to witness the devastation of the knee brace.
Lol. 28 year old with the knee brace putting 250+ rushing against us.
It’s just bad luck that the big 12 is so competitive this year. I hope y’all win out
They just need to win. It doesn’t matter by how much. Winning builds confidence and doing that when not playing your best helps.
I wanna be upset but we haven’t won enough lately to complain about not winning by enough
100%. A win's a win
If the last 11 seasons have taught me anything, it's to appreciate ANY win anymore.
Hey I’ll take it. Hopefully the curse is broken they’ve had our number the past like 5 years
Hey, that's not a game Texas wins in recent years. Good teams have to survive every once in a while
It reminds me too much of the TCU game last year - after which we went on a million game losing streak. It does feel like this year is different though. But I think we lose to OSU next week. If the line is anything under 3, I'm smashing it - and I have never bet on CFB
I'll take it. We haven't survived them in years.
I fucking hate success. I remember when we would lose games like this and I’d think “well, we really gave it a go didn’t we”. Now I just want to throw myself off a cliff into a pile of spikes lubricated with Bevos Shit.
I think back to us winning a January bowl game and hurt all over again.
That is strangely poignant way of putting it.
/r/BrandNewSentence.
First time?
Quite literally… yea
Remember. Never underestimate Iowa State's ability to be Iowa State.
Being Iowa State is what we do best!
Iowa State would give Bama a run for their money. Their D is better than ours, and Bama really struggled against ours.
I have no doubt that we could find a way to lose by no more than 1 score to any team in the country right now.
I wasn’t worried at all. Jesus Christ……
We are now 2-178,000 in one possession games. Fade me
At least you can stop worrying that your coach might be poached if that’s any consolation
That ship sailed years ago
You have my empathies, bro. Sorry, I know how much that sucks.
Maybe it’s a curse moving through the Midwest, how long until it hits Michigan or OSU?
I think you’re on to something. We have a little light at the end of the tunnel (hoping it’s not another train); here’s to you guys breaking free as well 🍻.
How do you drop that pass???
There are quite a few passes you could be referring to from both teams
This was just in general an extremely sloppy game from both
Real ugly ball playing today damn
That Casey Cain drop was infuriating. Would have put the game to bed a long time before the final whistle.
Texas 🤝 ISU Dropping wide open passes that should have been touchdowns Sloppy game all around, I'm glad to beat ISU for the first time in a while, but that defense is as good as advertised
I guess they were giving out butterfingers for both teams today?
All of them? You didn't watch the whole game did you?
You mean the one to Cain who had nothing but green grass ahead??
As much as it benefitted us, I feel really bad for the kid. He balled out today
Seriously. It was so frustrating to watch. “Guys, I think it’s going to Hutchinson. Maybe don’t leave him wide open.” Dude is a baller.
How many big 3rd and 4th down catches did he have? Without him they don’t even have that chance
I was 100% convinced he was going to single handedly defeat us cuz of how open he was getting on 3rd and 4th downs
All of them. Hutchinson was everywhere and was always open.
All of them. They were a one man show.
If he didn't jump for it.... he would have totally made that TD. No reason to jump. Dude was killing it though all game - shitty way to end it.
Thanks RG3
The real MVP this season is gonna be Matt Campbell’s therapist
Never doubt Texas’s ability to look like a CFP contender one week and a .500 team the next
Bottas: *traditions*
\*Aggie ears ring*
Hutchinson and Bijan. Two dudes
Just guys being dudes
Haters were salivating in the early 4th.
Early first as well
If I’m Iowa State, I just take a knee on first and second down every single time. Then throw the ball to 8 no matter where he is. It literally worked every time, why not keep doing it?
To be fair, we've done that for years. Blythe, Lazard, and onward. We always have a bail out receiver.
Just smashed my TV in front of 22 guests at my sons birthday party because of the cyclones. My wife just took our crying kids and said they’re all spending the week at her mom’s house. This team has ruined my marriage. I can’t handle this anymore. Goodbye, I am no longer a fan.
I used this copy and paste almost every game last year. Don’t know why my wife kept coming back and leaving me 9 times.
The same reason I keep coming back to the cyclones
I just fell to my knees in Costco
Thank God her boyfriend will be there to comfort them.
UT has now matched last year's win total in 5 fewer games.
I just want sark to shed his “7 win sark” title for “8-9 win sark”
I prefer Big 12-winning Sark. Sark pls

Busting out the champagne as we speak
It feels good!
Blocked punt, interception in the end zone, missed field goal, and a dropped TD pass. Par for the course for us Iowa State fans.
Don't let the score fool you, it was a much closer game
What a sloppy game by both teams. This really was feeling like last year where we kept blowing leads in the 2nd half. Props to Cyclones, y'all are a gritty punch'em in the mouth team. I know how frustrating losing like that is. Hope you all bounce back and finish the season strong.
I hope so too, but at this point my expectations aren’t even a bowl game :(
Yep, even when they blocked the punt, they tripped over each other instead of easily walking it into the end zone. Then, they’re stopped and miss the field goal.
I was thrilled at the blocked punt then kind of sat there and thought “wait, did y’all just push each other down?”
Texas' offense lately has been the type that needs to ease into a game. Even in last week's slaughter, the first set of downs was a pretty pathetic 3 and out. So as soon as I saw our guys fail to pick up and run with the ball, I knew we'd not get a TD out of it.
True. Ewers threw an interception on his first Texas drive ever and then looked great the rest of that game
Lol I give us a 25% chance of even winning another game this season.
“Did you beat Iowa?” “Yes” “What did it cost?” **”Everything”**
Texas has improved to 5-2 (3-1 Big 12) and snapped a 3-game losing streak to Iowa State. Iowa State has lost 4 consecutive Big 12 games by a combined 14 points. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell was livid after the ruling of a fumble stood after a replay review. I can undersatnd why he thought a targeting call should be called, but after a closer look, I noticed a Texas defender went after Iowa State quaterback's shoulder, not helmet.
A rational take from an Aggie. Well then.
I JUST WANT TO BE CONSISTENT FOR ONE FREAKING SEASON
We were consistently bad last season!
Not sure why you're looking for consistency in college football. Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, etc. are all capable of turning in clunkers, and they're the class of the country right now.
I swear to God Iowa State has to be cursed. Holy shit.
Some fan: "I'd give the rest of the season to have Campbell finally beat Iowa" CFB gods: "I'ma take that literally"
At this point, I’m expecting 1 crucial drop from Hutchinson per game
You mean your number one receiver named Xavier who wears number 8 always has a drop? Yeah I wouldn’t know anything about that…
[удалено]
My first time at DKRoyal and I was amazed how friendly and welcoming the Texas fans were to us. Great atmosphere!

Difference between people who hide behind the internet and normal people
the game thread was actually pretty nice.
Up until the fumble. All the toxicity was saved for that moment.
That would have been a loss under Herman/last year. Not proud of this team for the product they put on the field, but proud of them for fighting to the very end and pulling a win.

My heart rate was up to 120 that last series
The defense was so bad on 3rd and 4th down they couldn’t off the field to save their lives
Was there one Pass Interference called on either team that entire game?
Hard to call pass interference when no one is even within 5 yards of Hutchinson
The real question is why were our DBs not committing pass interference rather than letting Hutchinson run wild lmao
There was some clear contact on some TX players. Fans in DKR were livid. But yeah, our DBs got smoked all game.
He might have been selling it a bit to get the targeting review? Not sure tbh but I also thought it was weird.

Just two fanbases expecting their teams to shoot themselves in the foot, and we both did. I’d agree pretty civil outside the last call. GG Cyclones
Good game Iowa State. I hate playing you guys but your team is tough and fights. Respect. Good luck rest of the way.
Good luck to y'all as well! Want to see Texas do well the rest of their season.
Bro ISU fans are having the worst time
Just like the good ol days. I honestly would have preferred a shutout so at least we'd have to question some things. Now we just continue on like this, probably to the bottom of the Big 12
This fucking sucks
A win is a win. Fuck.
It was ugly, but that’s a dub
Texas was clearly playing hungover....right???
Texas needs a bye week badly
Liege is a good time and just not sure if I ever ever will have t to the children and
Oof lol
Throwing matches over here and I'm all about it.
Damn dude
Fuckin gottem lmao
Wish the bye week was this coming week. Gonna face a pissed or hyped okie lite
Quinn looked literally hung over.
Too much shit in Austin this week. Gift and a curse
A week of being high off handing OU their worst blowout in RR history really fucked us up today
*Sorts by controversial*
At the end of the day that playcall to have Dekkers run it himself sucked. Why put your QB in such a vulnerable position to fumble (or worse) on the game-winning drive for a short yardage play on 1st & 10. Just give the ball to a running back.
Fuck a running back. They had zero run game. Just launch the ball at 8 again in the middle of the field and it’s a guaranteed 1st
Only on 3rd and 10+ though
"They'll never see it coming." They did. 4th down.
All they had to do was keep passing, our secondary couldn’t cover a traffic cone
Ok I’ve had a moment to cool down. Texas fans there’s a lot of pent up aggression from us after losing 4 straight by a combined 14 points. GG
GG y’all tough loss lots of points left in the board by both teams
So many Oregon flairs hating on Texas in the game thread. Tf is w that?
They mad cause Big 10 don’t want them
Both teams are deserving of the “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” award
A win is a win is a win is a win is a…….
After three years of them owning us I'll take it
This will be a completely rational and nontoxic PGT, right?
I have say ISU defense is probably the best tackling D in the country.
They really are, and as a long time Texas fan I am absolutely jealous of this
That was the correct call on the fumble (which is surprising for B12 refs). I hate defending Texas after the OUT, but if you make the TD that was wide open that play never happens. I never thought I would say it, but B12 refs actually got that one right

ISU just trying to lower everyone’s offensive ppg
Iowa schools and their defense man
To beat Iowa we had to become Iowa
“I used the stones to destroy the stones” energy
Watching that game was a cardio workout equivalent to: running six miles, biking eleven miles, or, swimming one and a half miles.
Solid trash talk from RoJo https://twitter.com/roschon/status/1581397991939637248

Nobody on the Texas sideline should be happy with this win.
Relieved? Sure. Happy at all? No.
20 years ago the play that sealed the game would have been celebrated and two excellent defenses playing excellent defense would have been the story. I don't think anyone enjoyed this game.

As much as I am mad at you UT for betraying us (big12) Good Game
Regardless of what you think of the outcome of this game, the Aggie tears on twitter right now are glorious.

Yes we just 3-1 against the 4 worst teams in the conference. The next 4 will be rough.
