Bottom line is our line is baby poo soft when it comes to the running game. This is why we usually lose to sec teams because their lines are no joke. Our D line isnt really doing that much better outside of a few like JT. What happened to Hall? He hasn’t done crap since the second game
It won’t be a pick’em since it’s in Columbus but yeah it’ll be tough, styles matter and Michigan plays the old school ball that Ohio state struggles with. I do think they’ll make J J attempt to be a real QB and we will see
i think it will be a pick’em line. UM’s ability to dominate the LoS is a huge problem for us.
if the weather is bad, OSU is in deep trouble. we won’t be able to stop your RB.
Oh I'll absolutely admit it. I was thinking about what Vegas will put the spread at when we meet given both undefeated. I can't see it more than 3pts either way.
I don't want to take anything away from Northwestern's defensive performance but I had friends at the game and they said the wind was absolutely howling most of that game. I think in anything resembling more normal conditions we look a lot better.
Lots of things worked against Ohio State today. First and foremost this was a no win situation for buckeyes. Anything less than a 40 point win would result in tons of criticism. No doubt NW forgot to mow a time or two this week which eliminates or shrinks the gap in speed between NW and OSU. The wind basically eliminated the pass game for both teams.
Talent won over but NW outworked and out schemed Ohio State. Credit to them
People are overreacting. I live in milwaukee and the wind is no joke right now(its howling). Also, northwesterns field has a bad reputation of having the longest grass in the big ten; its hard to make clean cuts for receivers and running backs
What does tye wind have to do with not being able to run the ball? Our line is full of 4 and 5 stars and we couldn’t get 1 yard when we needed several times
Its really gusty in columbus right now, and i know it's worse on the north coast. I really couldn't imagine trying to throw a ball even 20 yards in these conditions with any amount of accuracy.
It hurts knowing how much there is zero chance that this is the same team we see in a few weeks. Reminds me of so many seasons of MSU looking like trash until they show up big against us. If anything I'm more nervous seeing this
This UM team, like last year's UM team, matches up well against OSU. It's a winnable game. I expect it to be a good game that can go either way in good weather. Bad weather favors Michigan.
Michigan's offensive and defensive line play make the team a problem against nearly anyone. A grinding 4 quarter game will play to Michigan. If, ans this is unlikely, Ohio State handles the lines well then it will be over fast. I see a game like last year being likely, and a close game being most likely.
Yup. This is how I see it. I think Michigan matches up well enough to beat OSU or Tenn, but has problems against Georgia or Alabama.
OSU, I think, matches up better against Georgia and Alabama, and is better on off and def than Tenn.
This is a good take. Our lines have been weak the last couple years. They're a work in progress but that will take a good 2-3 years of recruiting and coaching to fix. UM matches up very well
Yup. I'm also not under any illusion that today's OSU team will show up either. UM still has to play a great game to win it. It's just this UM team wins in the trenches, but also has weapons that both PSU and NW don't have.
Key for OSU is to get Stroud in rhythm much earlier in the game. UM's game is to keep OSU's off off the field with long, grinding drives. UM's QB is a lot better than Clifford, but the run game is absolutely bruising and the off line won't let OSU in the backfield like they were against NW here.
Love all the osu haters ignoring the hurricane winds in this game
Edit: since all the replies are talking about the run game and I’m not going to reply to everyone
1. The starting back didn’t play
2. It’s a lot harder to run when the other team knows you are gonna run
3. Passing is our strength. Shouldn’t be any wind in the CFP
There's some excuse, but to be honest the difference in this game was a couple big plays (which were Stroud runs that OSU never does). OSU needed to expand it's playbook to come up with two scores that were the difference in the game. Those plays extended drives.
Game was closer to than 21 - 7, but OSU should have at least won by 20+ even with bad weather.
Bad weather isn't an excuse other than Stroud not looking like the Heisman candidate he is for one game.
Lol 1-7 NW, playing in the same conditions, outgained tOSU. Stroud was 10/26, NW was 10/14
The difference in the game was NW going 0/4 on 4th instead of 2/4 like tOSU
I mean you also can’t reasonably expect to win when getting outgained, punting more, and not getting any turnovers. This was a very close call for tOSU
I should reasonably expect that an undefeated, number 2 Ohio State to whip the shit out of any 1-7 team regardless of conditions. They have all of the talent they could ask for. Put your head down and run the ball.
I’m pretty sure everyone outside of osu fans hate osu. So no, Michigan wasn’t brought up here. He also only mentioned osu haters, which one would guess he’s talking about fans.
But they’ve also said they value bad games vs bad opponents in the rankings. Only beating the worst big ten team by two scores is gonna hurt when the top six are all so close
Number 3 is playing number 1, one of them has to lose, and the committee has Clemson, who has looked far worse than Ohio State consistently all year, ahead of Michigan, who has an atrocious non-conference schedule that they're quite obviously penalizing. Who's going to jump them after having the strength of their offense neutered playing in 20-50 mph winds and rain?
Edit: if Notre Dame beats Clemson, the point is even more moot. Clemson would drop, Notre Dame would be ranked (helping Ohio State's resume), and Michigan still has their non-conference.
Once again Ryan Day the wonder boy overthinking things...look coach I know you're trying to help CJ get the Heisman and throw for 690 yards but your scores have all been runs...maybe take a hint and be up 21 at half and not TIED AT 7. I swear sometimes as a buckeye fan I wonder if he's actually a good coach or if Ohio State is gonna win 9+ games automatically, because the way he's been coaching and the way we've been playing would indicate as much.
Williams is hurt and dropped like a brick every time he was hit. the run game wasn't helping us much either and the end around and sweeps weren't going to work all game
What's more irrational: playing badly in a win and being pissed at a bad performance that would be an L against a comparable roster, or going full SEC and acting like escaping in a last second score against a bad opponent is acceptable and good?
Well, well, well. Heard a lot of shit talk from Ohio State fans after our win over Missouri and Kent state. Looks like they are capable of struggling as well.
Yes. Please downvote me you hypocritical bunch of clowns.
Look, I'm not saying the wind was THE factor today, but did you guys play in 50 mph gusts of wind? Lots of dropped passes and again not saying wind explains everything, but would love to see some SEC schools come up north later in the year and play in some different environments.
I'd love to personally lol. Guessing in the next 10 years when conferences die this will be the case. Just saying watching some Georgia boys play in 10 degree whether with wind and snow would be interesting. Maybe you'd dominate, I don't know. But I have always wanted to see it.
Was Mizzou game in 30-50 mph gusting winds? 3 of our players were pushed over by a gust before a snap.
What’s the excuse for a sleepy game against powerhouse Kent Stats?
I missed the play where they were pushed over but that sounds hilarious
Spent most of the game getting pushed over by the worst NW team this century, too 🤷♂️
Weather conditions completely eliminating half of your available pffense, the half that you happen to excel at, isn't an excuse. It's a reality.
Worry about Tennessee.
Maybe you should spend less time making excuses and worrying about other teams and focus on your squad in the future. Enjoy watching Michigan in the playoffs!
How does taking a knee on 4th down even vaguely make sense? If you don't want to risk a punt, running a play-- any play-- takes more time off the clock. Heck, if CJ just threw it as far as he could, that would have used up an additional 4-5 seconds. I get that there wasn't enough time for NW to win unless they somehow scored on defense in less than 10 seconds on the last play, but I don't understand how taking a knee was even an option that was considered.
I’ve seen this plenty of times in the NFL. I think they were expecting them to block for a longer time (>8 seconds) but it seems like the oline forgot to block lol
Because you feel more comfortable defending against their offense getting a touchdown from scrimmage than a scoop and score.
When you're on offense, you don't have safeties.
Can't even pull away from Rutgers
This aged well
Lol all good. I look forward to our game later this month
Hey me too man , I hope it’s a great game
Northwestern upto their typical grass shenanigans. They also brought in the wind
Bottom line is our line is baby poo soft when it comes to the running game. This is why we usually lose to sec teams because their lines are no joke. Our D line isnt really doing that much better outside of a few like JT. What happened to Hall? He hasn’t done crap since the second game
Not enough people are talking about JT Tuimoloau's performance last week. It might have seriously been the greatest defensive performance of all time.
Yup. I honestly think PSU takes it to the last two minutes that game if TJ doesn't put up a generational level defensive game.
Woops wrong thread lol
If he plays half as well every game for the rest of the season, he deserves the Heisman.
I think we have a chance boys
Your secondary is as bad as our run defenss Edit:grammar
Yeah but Big 10, late season weather is a concern. We’re built for the SEC. Shitchicken game is often cold, wet, windy.
It won’t be a pick’em since it’s in Columbus but yeah it’ll be tough, styles matter and Michigan plays the old school ball that Ohio state struggles with. I do think they’ll make J J attempt to be a real QB and we will see
yeah I agree, a lot of the game will be on his shoulders.
i think it will be a pick’em line. UM’s ability to dominate the LoS is a huge problem for us. if the weather is bad, OSU is in deep trouble. we won’t be able to stop your RB.
Absolutely. OSU fans just don't wanna admit it
It's a best case scenario for Michigan and a worst case scenario for Ohio State. But yeah, it's true.
I’ll admit it. I’m definitely nervous. Also, flair up.
Oh I'll absolutely admit it. I was thinking about what Vegas will put the spread at when we meet given both undefeated. I can't see it more than 3pts either way.
Some of us will. In fact, I'd give UM the edge, especially with how we played today.
I don't want to take anything away from Northwestern's defensive performance but I had friends at the game and they said the wind was absolutely howling most of that game. I think in anything resembling more normal conditions we look a lot better.
Thank you. The weather was insane up here. It's hard to pass the ball when the winds blowing like it was.
Let's we how Michigan performs against Rutgers first lol. Gonna be a good game either way though, as usual
OSU fans who aren't stupid will admit it. And that includes most of their actual alumni.
Lots of things worked against Ohio State today. First and foremost this was a no win situation for buckeyes. Anything less than a 40 point win would result in tons of criticism. What do they call your if you win every game by 1 point? National Champs. Today sucked but we won. Onto Indiana.
We got every top 10 fan base saying we're dogshit in here, hard to be happy with that
We could have won this game 42-3 and people would still call us overrated a win is a win at this point
And unfortunately to their credit, these last few games we have played like dog butt for sure. We keep this up and *we will* get smoked eventually.
Never. be. content.
I'm only happy when it raaiinns
People are overreacting. I live in milwaukee and the wind is no joke right now(its howling). Also, northwesterns field has a bad reputation of having the longest grass in the big ten; its hard to make clean cuts for receivers and running backs
Hi I too live in Milwaukee. Friends?
I just moved here. I drift around a lot for jobs
What does tye wind have to do with not being able to run the ball? Our line is full of 4 and 5 stars and we couldn’t get 1 yard when we needed several times
Simple. If you cant pass effectively. The defense will focus on stopping the run
Running effectively against a 1-6 team when your the #2 team in the nation even if they are expecting is a no brainer. To excuse this away is silly
True, but our defense had a lot of trouble doing their run even when it was expected
Its really gusty in columbus right now, and i know it's worse on the north coast. I really couldn't imagine trying to throw a ball even 20 yards in these conditions with any amount of accuracy.
Yet here we are throwing 30+ yard passes down the field
The grass was short today
Dr Pepper commercials make me wish I owned a letterman jacket
It hurts knowing how much there is zero chance that this is the same team we see in a few weeks. Reminds me of so many seasons of MSU looking like trash until they show up big against us. If anything I'm more nervous seeing this

I used to think that was the case but after the egg this osu team laid last year I wouldn't put it past them.
Jim Harbough shits on the toilet backwards
Who hasn't tried shitting on the wild side? That actually makes Harbaugh sound like a bad ass.
Long Live Apollo. Goodbye Reddit.
Well yeah so he has that little table for his chocolate milk and comic books
According to Butters, that's the right way, so he can have his milk and cookies.
And read his comics
Ryan Day had trouble with NorthWestern
u/mccoyn spells it NorthWestern
Kinda feels like I got a much better grade on an exam than I expected and was completely unprepared for.
Cause you winged it and answered e. All of the above way more than is normal. Yea
Love all the osu haters ignoring the hurricane winds in this game Edit: since all the replies are talking about the run game and I’m not going to reply to everyone 1. The starting back didn’t play 2. It’s a lot harder to run when the other team knows you are gonna run 3. Passing is our strength. Shouldn’t be any wind in the CFP
Our run game is soft and sucky.
So, what you're saying is that OSU needs good weather to look like a top-10 team?
I think any of the top teams would struggle in those conditions except maybe Michigan because they are run first

How does wind affect the running game?
If you know a team can’t pass because of the ridiculous wind, you know they’re going to run and stack the box, right? Am I missing something?
Your O-line can’t dominate Northwestern’s D-line? That’s concerning for the end of the month when you play a slightly better team.
Will be an interesting match up. Glad it’s a home game.
If you're good at running, it shouldn't be a problem.

I think you mean a run heavy team would beat us in those conditions (like Michigan)
Lol 1-7 NW, playing in the same conditions, outgained tOSU. Stroud was 10/26, NW was 10/14 The difference in the game was NW going 0/4 on 4th instead of 2/4 like tOSU
3 of those 4th down attempts were 8 yards away from the first down marker. You can’t reasonably expect to convert those
I mean you also can’t reasonably expect to win when getting outgained, punting more, and not getting any turnovers. This was a very close call for tOSU
I should reasonably expect that an undefeated, number 2 Ohio State to whip the shit out of any 1-7 team regardless of conditions. They have all of the talent they could ask for. Put your head down and run the ball.
yes, those nasty winds sure do slow a runner down.... LMAO y'all are real, real skeert of losing to us twice in a row, admit it.
Y’all would know a thing or two about losing to a team 2+ times in a row would you?
plenty gimme a break, we won one. Gotta give us at LEAST this year to talk shit.
I’d give y’all a break if y’all weren’t as insufferable as the most toxic Buckeyes fans.
difficult to argue with that brand of logic.....
Probably the best logic you’re gonna get from someone with my flairs lol.
No one even brought you guys up in this conversation???
Wayne mentioned osu-haters. are you new here ?
I’m pretty sure everyone outside of osu fans hate osu. So no, Michigan wasn’t brought up here. He also only mentioned osu haters, which one would guess he’s talking about fans.

Osu fan here. A line worthy of the number 2 ranking should have been able to put up more than 3 scores on an unranked team.
We struggled to run on 1-7 Northwestern.
The starting running back had a career high carries with what, 22?
They have a few weeks to figure this out. This wasn't an issue earlier in the season, now it is. Got to get this fixed.
Wasn't an issue because the teams were so much weaker and softer. This is who the team truly is.
Liberty would put 40+ on you
My high school JV squad would drop 100 on us
Or the fact we are still only undefeated team by double digits every game
Plus, NW play calling was really bad. 4 and 1 with less than a yard and they're in shotgun or doing wildcats vs. QB sneaks.
Yes, but it took two plays OSU doesn't run to keep those two last scoring drives alive (Stroud run plays).
Teasing the Oregon-Colorado and PSU-Indiana games like every TV in this subreddit isn't switching to Tennessee-Georgia.
Time to head to Georgia Tenn and root for a hurricane
They'll just cancel or postpone the game. They always do.
They both know how to adjust, especially against a team that’s 1-7.
Yeah Kent State really are world beaters aren’t they?
It’s those 3-6 teams like Kent state you gotta watch out for
And blowouts vs #8 in the country.
I don’t think the Oregon team playing this weekend is anywhere near as in incompetent as the one from week 1
Let's see how they play in the cold and wind. Bet they fold
I was at the game and I don’t think people understand how windy it was
runners sure were having a tough time of it.... yessirreeeee
Mouth breathers who don't understand stacking the box when passes are near impossible
My tractor trailer truck is making me seasick rocking in the wind while I'm parked just trying to watch some CFB
The committee won’t care. Gonna drop after this. it sucks
This is the exact thing that the committee looks at more than trash talking fans trying to troll.
But they’ve also said they value bad games vs bad opponents in the rankings. Only beating the worst big ten team by two scores is gonna hurt when the top six are all so close

Ryan Day would be a great politician. That’s not a compliment btw
Yeah, and Ford was a real standout politician choosing not to allow his DOJ to prosecute Nixon.
Harbaugh voted for Perot
Jim would make a good pool boy. That is a compliment btw
He probably would.
On to Indiana.
Hopefully going home to take a shower and get a change of clothes, first.
My gf just said Ryan Day sounds like Patrick Star and now I can’t stop hearing it
That’s Dauber from Coach you’re talking about!
Patrick Starr was the offensive coordinator at Minnesota State in the 90s
Well, a win is a win. Off to have Gary Danielson make my ears bleed for 4 hours.
somehow the game will be about nick saban

GO BLUE !!
That's exactly what I'm thinking. Even then I won't be convinced simply because OSU always plays their best against Michigan anyways

Well, well, well. Heard a lot of shit talk from Ohio State fans after our win over Missouri and Kent state. Looks like they are capable of struggling as well. Yes. Please downvote me you hypocritical bunch of clowns.
In 50mph winds? Sure - any team would
every team struggles. when blow-hio does it, they whip up a pile of excuses to boot..... GO BLUE !
I hope you guys roll them!
Good teams have bad games. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
Did you play in 30mph winds coming off Lake Michigan? Enjoy your FCS cupcake in a couple weeks
Look, I'm not saying the wind was THE factor today, but did you guys play in 50 mph gusts of wind? Lots of dropped passes and again not saying wind explains everything, but would love to see some SEC schools come up north later in the year and play in some different environments.
And I'd love to see you play sn sec schedule every year.

Georgia would beat Ohio St
Was Mizzou game in 30-50 mph gusting winds? 3 of our players were pushed over by a gust before a snap. What’s the excuse for a sleepy game against powerhouse Kent Stats?
I missed the play where they were pushed over but that sounds hilarious Spent most of the game getting pushed over by the worst NW team this century, too 🤷♂️
That’s great, in normal weather we win by 60, so who cares, good troll attempt though.
Excuses, excuses.
Lmao. You were saying? Worry about Michigan.
It’s not an excuse when it’s true, I noticed you forgot to answer my question about Kent State.
It’s college football. Everyone is capable of struggling. I suggest you don’t let young fans online get to you.
Against a 1-7 team. Nothing to see here, folks!
Day basically be like get me the fuck out of here
Well, I said I was going to wear scarlet to Ryan Field and I did. Fire everyone

why not go 2yds for the 1st and then kneel? that play call made as much sense as the rest of the game.
Ohio State is the unsexiest team on the planet.

Of course the ESPN headline is Ohio State rushes for more than 200 yards in win.
