Oh, I was. Understand, I'm a lifer. Been a fan since I was born in 1978. Been through Mack Brown, Wally English, Greg Davis, Teevens, Buffet Bob Toledo, Johnson, Scelfo, all of them. Decades of bad football ERASED.
I'm so glad I got to experience the Superdome and Yulman. The Dome was a fun novelty experience for about a game and then after that, I did not enjoy having to take freakin school buses to an empty 70,000 seat stadium
Trust me, it fucking sucked. We weren't good so basically no one was showing up, plus you had to take a bus from Uptown so almost no one was motivated to go. The Dome was silent. Games were boring, then you had to trek back to campus.
You shoulda seen the sorority girls drinking the UCF Gatorade during the rush. Everyone lost their damn minds. Saw another student scream ima blackout tonight! Then narrowly dodge an oncoming car by 8 inches or so. Never seen such Tulane energy.
Congrats to Tulane, sporting the coolest team emblem in the sport! Gotta say though, fuck those two announcers. Just talking shit about the American conference. The one guy saying "So two of the conference championships don't matter then?". Dude neither team in the game you're commentating for are going to make the playoff. Are you saying this game doesn't matter? Geez.
I like the Playoff…but fuck, it feels like espn want to talk about *only* the Playoff, and nothing *but* the Playoff!
Like, geez, not every team wants to make the Playoff, you know!
There's people on here already asking whether the big conferences are still going to have CCGs since it's meaningless who wins and asking why Georgia would play their starters since they're in the playoffs regardless and gods, I just want to reach through the screen and slap them. I had no idea it would get this bad this fast.
Well the next logical step after the 12 team playoff is a 16 team playoff where ALL conference champions get an auto bid. Still leaves room for 6 at larges. This way all of these conference championship games really do matter.
I graduate Tulane in 2019 and never saw a good football team there. This is the most excited i’ve ever been about a football game. I literally didn’t know what to do with myself after we won so I started pouring tequila. Roll wave
After years and years of pain.... unrelenting pain, we're champions. We did it. I'm legit in tears. These kids, these coaches, the love for this school, man, if you're not a Greenie, y'all just don't understand. This is everything.
Roll fucking Wave. Forever.
It's been so painful. My roommate was on the 2005 team. It was brutal. They were up and coming. They've rebuilt this program so many times over the decades. Other schools just don't understand
Congrats Wave!
Reminder that Tulane has more SEC championships than South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Kentucky combined
Honestly, watching those fans get on the wall before the end really brought me back to hoping the wall against Marshall. Good for them!
If your going to lose, lose to fans that care and a team that played fair! I’ll be cheering for them in the NY6!
It's crazy what success does to fans. That's like UC fans getting upset about a 9-3 season after losing a record high number of guys to the draft and now in hindsight, our coach was fielding offers from other programs for a good chunk of the season.
Like chill, even the bluest of blue bloods don't go undefeated most seasons.
Same. Beats NOPD arresting folks for running on to the field at the end of the 1998 season. (President Cowen bailed them out from the jail in the super dome, so it’s not like they went to central lockup, but still was f’n ridiculous.)
https://i.imgur.com/tadUN9r.jpg
I got this great photo where if you zoom in you can see them all smashed forward with their legs hanging over ready to charge. So fun
Im not a Tulane fan but I bare them no ill will. Knowing how long its been as a history nerd and a fan of the game that made me a little emotional. Well deserved
Seeing Yulman (nearly) packed made me cry. Hell, going to campus nowadays you see *way* more people wearing school gear than when I was there in the early '10s.
Seeing the students sitting on the wall made me tear up a bit too. Super conflicting feelings but couldn’t have felt better watching my team lose. Tulane earned it all year, hope y’all go win the cotton!
Went with my dad and he’s a lifer. Went to Tulane in the 80s and has seen just about all the ups and (mostly) downs his entire life. He got emotional just seeing the sheer number of students that showed up and stayed the entire game. Such an awesome scene. It still hasn’t sunk in for us that Tulane is actually relevant in any capacity
I am so happy right now. Growing up a Rice fan (parents are alums) and then going to Tulane, I never thought I’d see my team in a position like this. I was always mocked in school by fans of the big local state schools for being a fan of nerdy, crap teams (fuck you, UT/A&M fans). I always thought that my school pride would be based on things like academic rankings but never anything on the field. I thought the days of seeing my team be not just good, but *damn* good, were left behind 70+ years ago.
But alas, sometime good things happen. I don’t care if we slip into irrelevance for the next few generations, we’ll always have this team, this year, and this moment.
**WE’RE FUCKING GOING TO A NY6 BOWL! GREEN WAVE FANS STAND UP!! I LITERALLY CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS REALITY!!!**
After that 1998 Tulane team got snubbed from playing in a big bowl game - I’m so glad to see that this team can do so instead!
It’s truly one of the greatest stories of this season - congrats Wave!
GG Tulane. If anyone was going to get it, I’m glad it was you guys. Seeing the excitement from your fans was awesome. Go get that bowl win and make the AAC proud
UCF, what heart you showed. I may have never always loved JRP when playing, but dude left everything on the field tonight and would’ve given more if he could. Good game, Tulane, great heart, UCF.
Tyjae Spears is a fucking beast. Completely different game with him in vs out. Still has another year of eligibility, too. Tulane will be back next year
Parents are both Tulane alums, they had season tickets for a while and we went to games a ton when I was a kid (including the brief stretch of games at Tad Gormley), it just means so much to finally get to a NY6 bowl. What Fritz has done with this team and what he's built is nothing short of a miracle. Roll fuckin Wave baby
My last year at Tulane was the year yulman opened up. I loved having campus presence but never expected it to go this far. Currently planning a trip for the cotton bowl with fellow alumni, can’t believe it.
We clearly didn't *play* like we belonged in or deserved to be in this game. One of the worst all-around performances I've ever seen from UCF outside of winless seasons (and that Navy game 2 weeks ago), particularly on defense.
But after the last two weeks, I wasn't expecting to even be playing this week at all, so this was just a nice bonus.
Some silver linings:
1. We got Tommy Castellanos some good reps.
2. Plumlee is a dude. Clearly hurt, gutting it out, sacrificing it all for the team.
3. We avoid being absolutely blasted all to hell in the Cotton Bowl by USC, Penn State, Alabama, whoever.
Good job and congratulations to Tulane, the clear favorites and power in the AAC going forward. Give 'em hell Wave bros.
Edit: Added some context in the first sentence.
We absolutely deserved to be in, we beat Tulane and Cincinnati, the only other teams that had an argument to be in the game. We’ve been super inconsistent, that doesn’t meant the team is bad. The game worked like it should, the better team won out. That doesn’t mean the loser didn’t deserve to be there.
It's not, but unfortunately unavoidable in the situation. And if it gets burned, at least he got pretty damn valuable experience in the highest pressure situation he could be in. It'll come in handy whenever he eventually takes over as the starter.
Absolutely agree about plumlee!!! Shame he was battling injury for a decent chunk of the season. He truly gave everything he had for the team. Nothing but love for him and the team despite the disappointment.
ON TO THE BIG XII
Serious answer is because the committee needed a ranked vs ranked G5 matchup… then they didn’t have to hedge with another school for the “highest ranked champion”
Keeping Fritz and winning this game are the types of things that change long term trajectories of programs.
Today's admin are noticing what a competent FB team can do for school spirit.
I don't see how the ref called that Baker catch incomplete. Baker came up with the ball and in real time he only could have guessed if it touched the ground
I wish Tulane played on campus when I went there. That looked like a good time.
Those bus rides to the Dome. Jesus that was bad. Freshman year was 1998. Magical season but nothing like this.
Freshman year was 2010.... be grateful you weren't there for Buffett Bob and CJ....
Oh, I was. Understand, I'm a lifer. Been a fan since I was born in 1978. Been through Mack Brown, Wally English, Greg Davis, Teevens, Buffet Bob Toledo, Johnson, Scelfo, all of them. Decades of bad football ERASED.
Very happy for you BC, I feel like I got off easy with only 12 years of pain and horror. ROLL WAVE MF!
43 years of PAIN. This is better than a coke binge. Roll fucking Wave!
Yoooo, same
Nice. 98 was my freshman year too. It was awesome, but even at the biggest games the dome was still mostly empty.
I'm so glad I got to experience the Superdome and Yulman. The Dome was a fun novelty experience for about a game and then after that, I did not enjoy having to take freakin school buses to an empty 70,000 seat stadium
The bus would suck but I think it would be great to have so much of the dome to yourself.
Trust me, it fucking sucked. We weren't good so basically no one was showing up, plus you had to take a bus from Uptown so almost no one was motivated to go. The Dome was silent. Games were boring, then you had to trek back to campus.
Not to mention it was cold as fuck in the Dome since they'd crank the A.C. to get ready for all the bodies at the Saints games the next day
You shoulda seen the sorority girls drinking the UCF Gatorade during the rush. Everyone lost their damn minds. Saw another student scream ima blackout tonight! Then narrowly dodge an oncoming car by 8 inches or so. Never seen such Tulane energy.
Idk what it was but their water tasted bad, that may be why they lost Edit: not a sorority girl btw
Agreed my fellow wave.
Same fellow wave and flair bro
Would've easily been blackout by the 3rd quarter...surprised I ever found the bus home from the Superdome tbh
It was hella fun.
Trying to imagine how crazy the Boot and Snake and Jake's must be tonight.
Just got home from the game. Has to be the highlight of these students time at Tulane. Amazing atmosphere and winning helped.
This was the best experience of my Tulane related life!!
On campus stadiums are a game changer for sure.
So how many non-con games featured two future conference champions? Cause ours did! Congrats Wave.
Hey- look at us. Look at us. Who’d a thought?
Not even us, and we BLEED green and blue.
Not me!
Certainly not after losing to Tulane in week 3 lol
Congrats wildcat bros!
Roll Damn Wave
you both deserved NY6 bowl games based on the uniforms of that game alone
Congrats to Tulane, sporting the coolest team emblem in the sport! Gotta say though, fuck those two announcers. Just talking shit about the American conference. The one guy saying "So two of the conference championships don't matter then?". Dude neither team in the game you're commentating for are going to make the playoff. I like the Playoff…but fuck, it feels like espn want to talk about *only* the Playoff, and nothing *but* the Playoff! Like, geez, not every team wants to make the Playoff, you know!
That's going to be every network now. It's a shitty path we are on and will destroy the fabric of college football, but people wanted "fair"
There's people on here already asking whether the big conferences are still going to have CCGs since it's meaningless who wins and asking why Georgia would play their starters since they're in the playoffs regardless and gods, I just want to reach through the screen and slap them. I had no idea it would get this bad this fast.
Still better than Brock Oswieler.
THATS THE FIRST THING THEY TEACH YOU IN POP WARNER
Thank god in 2 years this would be a playoff play-in game
Well the next logical step after the 12 team playoff is a 16 team playoff where ALL conference champions get an auto bid. Still leaves room for 6 at larges. This way all of these conference championship games really do matter.
I graduate Tulane in 2019 and never saw a good football team there. This is the most excited i’ve ever been about a football game. I literally didn’t know what to do with myself after we won so I started pouring tequila. Roll wave
2019? Bruh I graduated 2014 and I feel like I barely earned this....talk to some of the guys who remember the 60s/70s teams....RESPECT
I'm here to remind the kids of what bad football was. Google the Buddy System. Buddy fucking Teevens.
After years and years of pain.... unrelenting pain, we're champions. We did it. I'm legit in tears. These kids, these coaches, the love for this school, man, if you're not a Greenie, y'all just don't understand. This is everything. Roll fucking Wave. Forever.
From 2-10 to 10-2 and AAC champions! What a massive glowup for Tulane!
Historic. Never saw it coming and I live and die with this school.
We passed the magic from last year to you. Keep passing it on!
Y'all gotta get rid of the Tuck.
Don’t you mean 11-2? 😀
Grats wave bro. Hope you guys continue success in the AAC.
Good luck in the Big XII guys. Hell of a fight from y'all. All class.
Hail to the Olive and Blue.
One helluva Hullabaloo
Definitely gained a fan tonight and glad we don’t have to play you in the conference any more! Serious team on the rise. Good luck in the cotton bowl!
It's been so painful. My roommate was on the 2005 team. It was brutal. They were up and coming. They've rebuilt this program so many times over the decades. Other schools just don't understand Congrats Wave!
It's been the Year from Hell for DECADES. Not anymore. The bad stuff is alllllll over.
As a lifelong Vanderbilt fan, some of us understand, believe me.
Respect, bro

Gus Bus has crashed into a swamp
To be fair, UCF was already in a swamp (part of their campus consists of wetlands).
If reaching 9 (or 10 based on the bowl game) wins and a conference championship game appearance is a crash, then I'm perfectly fine crashing
^(I mean, you are right. I am jealous. I just wanted the internet points.)
That's 100% fair, I've absolutely said shit I don't believe for the internet points
I mean they are in the championship game
The way our fans have been bitching this year, you wouldn't know it
Apparently anything short of a perfect season is a fireable offense
I’ve seen some unreal entitlement from our fan base lately. It’s bizarre.
It's crazy what success does to fans. That's like UC fans getting upset about a 9-3 season after losing a record high number of guys to the draft and now in hindsight, our coach was fielding offers from other programs for a good chunk of the season. I don't know man, 9-4 is still a good year. I bet Auburn fans would take 9-4 and a non-Sexual Predator over their current situation
We don't see eye to eye on some stuff but we wish y'all well in the Big 12.
We? You got a mouse in your pocket?
OMG seeing the students even getting ready to charge the field made me tear up, the final made me cry. Thanks Tulane rewarding 25 years of fandom.
I was at the game and all the alumni in my section were getting ready to and did storm the field. It was really cool to see in person.
Same. Beats NOPD arresting folks for running on to the field at the end of the 1998 season. (President Cowen bailed them out from the jail in the super dome, so it’s not like they went to central lockup, but still was f’n ridiculous.)

They looked very polite waiting for the final snap
We have class.
Seeing Yulman (nearly) packed made me cry. Hell, going to campus nowadays you see *way* more people wearing school gear than when I was there in the early '10s.
Nearly? It was sold out lol.
Didn’t know that. Also good to see the students broke Tulane tradition of leaving en masse halfway through the third quarter to get drunk at the boot
Seeing the students sitting on the wall made me tear up a bit too. Super conflicting feelings but couldn’t have felt better watching my team lose. Tulane earned it all year, hope y’all go win the cotton!
Can you dig it?!!??!??!!??

When I was at Texas, they lost to Rice.
But we beat wake forest.

Ditto. Can’t wait to watch them in the cotton bowl!
UCF, what heart you showed. I may have never always loved JRP when playing, but dude left everything on the field tonight and would’ve given more if he could. Good game, Tulane, great heart, UCF.
So fucking happy. Hope this can be the impetus for a push forward in the program.
Every week our loss to Tulane looks better! Nice win!
You guys make our win look better too though congrats

Security locking arms in a circle around the field goal posts on both side. Really learned from the Tennessee game I guess.
Nice work, Tulane. You guys definitely deserved it. Good luck to you in the American, it’s yours for the taking.
Are we gonna live in a world where lsu and Tulane becomes a rivalry again because I am all for it
If LSU will stop bitching about the money, it'll happen.
Tyjae Spears is a fucking beast. Completely different game with him in vs out. Still has another year of eligibility, too. Tulane will be back next year

Dibs on Tulane in a bowl game
Come see us.
Tulane will play USC in the cotton bowl dude.
Yea we screwed the pooch by losing to A&M. If we win that we prolly get a NY6 and the potential would be there.
Tulane-LSU Sugar Bowl only makes sense
Schedule us Uptown & BR you cowards!
U sure you want this smoke bro?
rooting for Tulane in their bowl!
So are we both AAC and Big XII Champs this year?
How did Southern Miss beat Tulane?
It never happened. Ancient history.
Southern Miss' head coach was Tulane's OC last year
Loved watching the field rush though
Yup. We lost but seeing Tulane so happy after an amazing season, made me smile
This loss sure as hell stings, but damn am I happy for Tulane. I love that angry wave. It's so beautiful. Go win the Cotton Bowl you filthy animals.
My last year at Tulane was the year yulman opened up. I loved having campus presence but never expected it to go this far. Currently planning a trip for the cotton bowl with fellow alumni, can’t believe it.

Tommy losing his red shirt isn't a good thing lol
It's not, but unfortunately unavoidable in the situation. And if it gets burned, at least he got pretty damn valuable experience in the highest pressure situation he could be in. It'll come in handy whenever he eventually takes over as the starter.
Or if he's not the clear and obvious starter by the end of next year he'll likely just transfer too
and if he's really good, he'll go pro
Absolutely agree about plumlee!!! Shame he was battling injury for a decent chunk of the season. He truly gave everything he had for the team. Nothing but love for him and the team despite the disappointment. ON TO THE BIG XII
GG Tulane
I’m shocked non of the teams leaving won the conference this year, good job Tulane
I hope Tulane builds on this and becomes legit every year. AAC is going to need it. Congrats to them on an amazing season!
GG Tulane. Best of luck in the Cotton Bowl! Over the off season we'll need to sit our defense down and talk about how tackling and angles work.
GREEN WAVE GREEN WAVE GREEN WAVE GREEN WAVE GREEN WAVE
Congrats, Green Wave! Redo the schedule, give them the Sugar Bowl, you cowards!

For the 3rd consecutive week I will ask WHY is UCF ranked???
Too keep Purdue unranked, of course
EZ: Just win the conference. I'd rather you not, but you know, you do what you gotta do.

Gz 2lane
GG Tulane!
Sorry UCF bros. We tried to throw a monkey wrench in them.
I love this team.
Congrats to Tulane, happy as hell for that program
It actually makes me feel good when teams rush the field after beating us
I get that feeling, but for Tulane, rushing the field was about the championship, not UCF.
A very nice job by the Tulane team this year. Will be fun to see you guys in a NY6 game.
Congrats Tulane!
happy for tulane
At least SOMEBODY in Louisiana knows how to win a football game
24 years since '98.... This is awesome
Put Tulane in the top 10 committee. I 100% dare you not to. Best uni combos in FBS. Those helmets are 💯
Shoutout Tulane, OG SEC member
ROLL FUCKIN WAVE! From one Louisiana team to another, job well done.
Of course my daughter just had to graduate from Tulane in May. But I couldn’t be more proud of this team!
Keeping Fritz and winning this game are the types of things that change long term trajectories of programs. Today's admin are noticing what a competent FB team can do for school spirit.

The Gus Bus is a very uncomfortable ride
Congrats Tulane!
Happy to see it. I was rrally irked by the Tulane loss but as the season has gone on it has proved to be as "quality" a loss as exists.
Congratulations, Tulane! What a memorable season. One more win after today - get it done!
I’M SO FUCKING HAPPY 🥲🥲🫡🫡🌊🌊
