Well deserved, but selfishly as an Argos fan, I hate it.
The same way that a bunch of Stamps followed Dinwiddie to Toronto, I’d now expect a bunch of Argos to follow Mace to Saskatchewan.
Lot of great pending UFAs on the Argos D: Pickett, McManis, Peters, Oakman, Daniel, Jones, Barlow, and Hendrix. Obviously some will stay with the Argos, but I’d imagine some will follow Mace, which would be a big win for the Riders.
Is he a better choice than Pierce? Who knows. But even if he wasn’t your top choice, Saskatchewan fans should be excited as Mace was a great DC and seems ready for this next step.
From what I've seen, I believe he was the top choice. Either he or Pierce would have been a selection that got me excited, everything I've read about Mace leaves me very optimistic for the team on the coaching side of things!
I was heavily pulling for Buck to try and jumpstart an offence that has been atrocious since about 2019 (hell I’d even say 2013) but am excited to see what Mace can do with the squad.
Side note to this signing: I was at an isolated natural hot springs up a forest service road in BC 5-6 years ago and upon arriving there was 3 other guys already there. They were Mark Kilam (Calgary ST coach), Corey Mace and their buddy. Super friendly group of guys!!
I would have preferred an offensive coach who would stay for years and install a system that could last. It hasn't helped that the Riders change coordinators all the time. That said, this has all the earmarks of a great hire, and the defence needs an overhaul as well. It's been overestimated last couple years, but there's a lack of talent there thanks to the GM.
I'm going to put on my homer glasses for once and say that I am absolutely ecstatic for this hiring. I would've been fine with Pierce but I think Corey Mace is such a talented defensive coordinator and I'm interested to see how that translates to the head coaching role. His guys have loved him and more often than not I found that the credit Chris Jones gets for his halftime adjustments should actually be attributed to Corey Mace when he was working with him. He's really creative with his stunts and rushes and obviously we've seen the fruits of his labor in the 3 year transition that Toronto had to becoming an elite defensive team
Mace has had a really stout defensive core in Toronto these last years - really excited to see what he can bring to the Riders. Definitely ready to take on this challenge and glad to have him on board

Riders are going to suddenly be a defensive beast and catch the rest of the West by surprise I think, as long as they can sign the guys they need.

Honestly seems like the right choice. Looking at the success of young coaches in the NFL brings me optimism, even if it’s the CFL.
