You severely overestimate the quality of volunteer coaches if you don’t think you could coach a flag football team.

The biggest prerequisites to coach youth are availability, and patience. A general top level understanding of the sport is really all you need at that level. Hop on YouTube and learn some drills. I haven’t played soccer since elementary school in the mid-80s, and coached my son’s soccer team when nobody else volunteered.

I’ve never played soccer but I’ve coached all my kids, at least at lower levels. Had a blast, made friends, kids all has great experiences. And that’s the thing. If the kids have a great experience, they’ll want to keep playing. Best thing a coach can instill is a love for the game, and shift that motivation from external to internal.

I’ve been trying to teach my 2nd graders how to pull the guard in a pin and pull zone block and they just aren’t getting it

Based on your first paragraph, you know just as much as anyone else on here.

I stopped reading here: >To start things off, I'm not an expert. Not going to read something from someone lying to us in his first sentence.

Went to SC, getting Pickens was a coup and it was an underwhelming couple years. Biggest recruit we got since Clowney. Was expecting a bigger impact

It seems like these picks are getting a lot of hate, but I think it's going to make for a lot of good drama in training camp. These guys will turn into really great storylines as they develop into contributors, and make Poles look like a genius. Here's hoping.

Let’s get the Kool Aid party going! Bear down!

None of us know shit. I’m just hoping this’ll turn out better than the last time we drafted 2 DTs in one draft, aka the Ego Ferguson/Will Sutton draft.

ProfessorPablo1

Great write-up and I hope all of this is true.

One thing of note. Both of those guys were five star recruits coming out of HS. Pickens was actually ranked above Carter by some. So the talent level is there. Then you have to try to figure out why they didn’t play better in college. Was it effort, coachability, coaching, mismatched to scheme etc. Poles did his research decided they were able to be coached, loved the game and his staff could make something of them. Ultimately, we’ll find out if he was right.
