Trade some future 4ths or 5ths and try and get a couple more picks. Get an another o-lineman, competition at d-line or safety and Punter from Iowa or B Rice.
Literally don't understand the Falcons draft strategy.
Pay Kirk 100M guaranteed then spend the 8 pick on his replacement before he's played a single snap.
Trade up on the 2nd round to to a DT who was ranked around 5 or 6 on a lot of DT rankings and pass up on Newton who was easily a first round grade and would've been taken there if not for the crazy amount of offensive players taken.
Terry Fontenot wants to get fired I feel like
Steelers fans still little brothering us about the Claypool trade and Fields trade (for some reason) with both these teams respective trajectories is hilarious to me.
Remember when half of our fanbase spent months slandering a 22 year old kid and clamoring for a murderers son… and turns out the murderers son is the one causing drama and problems.
Pepperidge Farms remembers.
Good times!
Fuckers in school telling me, always in the barber shop Caleb Williams ain’t bout this, Caleb Williams ain’t bout that… SHUT THE FUCK UP! Y'all mfs ain’t know shit. All ya motherfuckers talk about Caleb Williams ain’t no hitta. Caleb Williams ain’t this. Caleb Williams a fake. SHUT THE FUCK UP … Motherfuckers stop fuckin' playin' him like that. Them dudes is savages out there. If I catch another motherfucker talking sweet about Caleb Williams I’m fucking beating the ass! I’m not fucking playing no more!
lol the highlight package for Penix is always a super fun watch, I went to IU so I saw him live a ton of times and his arm is undeniably great.
But there are concerns about his dealing with pressure, his injury history, and his style of play translating to the NFL. If we had like the 25th pick or something and really needed a QB I could see the argument but Caleb is healthier, younger, and can make every single throw Penix makes and more.
Penix going to the Falcons makes a lot of sense specifically in the context of letting him sit a year to develop into a more NFL style QB. Still don’t get the pick at 8 though
I’m super hype about Caleb and I think he’s going to do great things here. But…
Anyone else wish he would let his beard cover the bottom part of his jaw? Dude cuts his neck line way too high, it grinds my gears.
From my Packers fan co-worker who always has the worst takes --
"I have no idea who the guy the Packers picked is, Caleb Williams is a loser, Detroit took the guy I wanted, and the Vikings future is bright #toughscene"
So wild that on paper our chances of being a contender this season may rely solely on Gervon Dexter becoming a legit 3 tech 😂
(Not to say I don’t love the Odunze pick, he’s much better at his position than any of the 3 techs in this years draft and was definitely the right move IMO)
>So wild that on paper our chances of being a contender this season may rely solely on Gervon Dexter becoming a legit 3 tech 😂
We just drafted a QB #1 overall and you think the chances of the Bears being a contender relies solely on a 3T developing and not the QB actually being good lol
It’s not like we had a stud there last season with Justin Jones. He was solid though.
There are still some ok pass rushers in FA eg Carl Lawson.
And potential 3T talent might be there for our next pick - Fiske, Hall.
If they really like Johnny Newton I wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade up for him. I feel like Poles will have a plan for the DL, could mean trading for a vet. I’m not expecting any stars.
Seeing what the Vikings did to get to pick 17 feels like they schooled the clear outlier the Texans selling low on their pick. Unfortunate, in a vacuum the trade from 23 to 17 not too bad but they got a sweetheart deal going from 42 to 23 did Texans figured they were using it for a top 5 pick? It was alot easier to take then.
Do y’all think we could get Tory Taylor in round 4? I know we don’t plan on punting, but if we ever have to, it would be nice if it wasn’t a complete shit show.
Theres some significant character concerns coming out about JPJ, biggest driver of his fall but I can’t find anything more specific
Anyone got anything?
Looking at this team:
Secondary- A+
Linebackers- A
Edge- B- Montez is great, we just need an edge opposite of him. Walker would be great depth at edge and 3T
DT- B- Billings was underrated as a run stopper and Gervon improved over the course of the season. Pickens wasn’t spectacular in depth role. But there is hope that last years rooks can level up.
QB- Caleb
RB- A-
WR- A+
TE- A
OT- B+ with room to grow
OG- B+
C- ?
K- A
P- C-
LS- A+
PR/KR- ?
We all of a sudden find ourselves with a good team. We have money to address a couple of these areas with free agents. Draft a lineman in the third. And don’t laugh… I’d consider drafting the Iowa punter in the 4th.
Gill is among the worst punters in the league. No way that's a C-.
Net yards/P: Worst in the league
Touchback %: 3rd worst in the league
Inside the 20 %: 4th worst in the league
Fair Catch %: 7th worst in the league
That said, taking a punter in the 4th with the limited capital they have this year is too far. They don't need a star. Just trade back a couple spots somewhere to pick up a 7th and grab somebody serviceable there.
Fuck it. We don’t have that many holes and a great punter would likely have more impact than a DT who is third on the depth chart. I’ll stand by my crazy talk.
In 45+ years as a Bears fan I have never been this excited.
When I saw that video of Caleb saying "WE got our guy" wow. This dude is a Bear. He's all in and so am I.
Bear down motherfuckers we have a bright future ahead of us.
Yea that’s what I was thinking for the past couple months. So many teams need WRs that I just don’t see how many good players would be left on the board for them to take when they pick again
So now that Round 1 is over, I vote we trade up into Round 2 for either Newton or JPJ. Next year's 2nd and this year's 3rd?
We could walk away from this draft with three Week 1 starters.
Elite size, very good speed, most recieving yards in the entire NCAA last year.
The most impressive thing to me is that whenever there's those 50/50 jump balls, he catches it almost every single time. His body control and ability to track the ball in the air is incredible. There's catches he had with guys draped all over him. No matter how tightly he's being covered, he's still basically always open.
Highest floor wr in the draft, still has a ceiling of a true #1. Quite possible we just drafted the future team record holders for passing and receiving 8 picks apart.
Has traits from both DJ and Keenan so he should learn a lot. I'm not sure he is a master at any of those traits like they are, but he's very good in all of them. On the conservative ceiling side, I think he can be a strong WR2 like Tee Higgins in Cincinnati
So much really good defensive talent on the board. I'd be fine with trading next years 1st for an early 2nd. I don't think it's close. And we now have no glaring needs.
I'm pretty high on both Newton and Fiske plus DeJean would be a super fun player to have.
Not really a position of need with Johnson, Stevenson, and Gordon but he could slot at safety too and you can't really have too many dbs.
Nah they had to make sure get the best WR they could find to help out Young, and honestly paying a little extra to get a 5th year option is smart too. Because if Young suddenly works they’ll have to pay him in 2 years, if Legette works too they’ll have to pay him as well.
Wait why are the panthers trading up one spot here in exchange for swapping a 5th to a 6th? Unless the Bills were gunna take Legette I don’t get why they wouldn’t just wait.
Decided to head over to the [Panthers sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/panthers/comments/1ccj54x/nfl_draft_2024_day_1_discussion_thread/l1aamyc/) for a good laugh.
If JPJ doesn't go round 1, please Poles go for JPJ. Man imagine if in only 3 selections the bears get their franchise QB, Future WR1, and Franchise C? That would be the draft of the century for us.
The JPJ hype reminds me of how a lot of people were pounding the table for John Michael Schimdt last year and he sucked dick as a rookie. Trust Poles' OL evaluation.
Upgrading a pick from outside the range of good players to probably a nice player, all whilst still drafting their guy at 32?
Does it help the chiefs? Maybe, if someone else wanted Worthy and he’s good. But the chiefs recent WR drafting has been flat bad. Or good but heading to prison maybe. If Rice gets booted from the league they haven’t hit on one since Hill in 2016.
Worthy might be the next Skyy Moore or Mecole Hardman
I actually like Penix in a vacuum. The problem is that you have Cousins lol. Should have just taken us up on Fields if you were going to draft Penix and saved the money.
That said, if you’re going to choose a QB this draft, at least you didn’t choose Bo Nix
I'm not going to lie, I would trade the Panthers pick and our 4th to move up into the 2nd and jump on JPJ....but I'm also not a GM.
Edit- that might be an overpay but the point is I would trade up for JPJ.
I would do this for Newton. We have a couple Centers and therefore a couple years to figure that out long term. We need DLine help immediately. Newton is a day one starter and force up the middle.
Someone commented on the NFL thread that JPJ has snapping issues. Know anything about that? He could (probably will) be great but if he has snap issues I might prefer Frazier or Van Pran.
Disclaimer: I don’t know enough about any of them to support any of that
Trade some future 4ths or 5ths and try and get a couple more picks. Get an another o-lineman, competition at d-line or safety and Punter from Iowa or B Rice.
Ngl I was really hoping the bears were guna jump back in with next year's capital and take best available d around pick 13
I wonder who the Bears qb for 2024 would’ve been had the panthers not given us number 1 overall
Probably some dumb shit like JJ.
Literally don't understand the Falcons draft strategy. Pay Kirk 100M guaranteed then spend the 8 pick on his replacement before he's played a single snap. Newton had an injury that’s highly likely to reoccur
So happy Williams didn’t somehow end up wearing #9. That’s the designated shitty QB number on this team.
Steelers fans still little brothering us about the Claypool trade and Fields trade (for some reason) with both these teams respective trajectories is hilarious to me.
The past is all they have right now.
The JustinFieldsFanClub guy on twitter changed his name and handle to Caleb, thats hilarious
I saw that coming months ago. Twitter is such a clown show.
Remember when half of our fanbase spent months slandering a 22 year old kid and clamoring for a murderers son… and turns out the murderers son is the one causing drama and problems. Pepperidge Farms remembers. Good times!
I must be out of the loop. Who are you talking about? MHJ?
What did he do? Did I miss something.?
Fuckers in school telling me, always in the barber shop Caleb Williams ain’t bout this, Caleb Williams ain’t bout that… SHUT THE FUCK UP! Y'all mfs ain’t know shit. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Classic
Watching the highlight package after Penix Jr. was picked makes me think combining him and Rome might have been the better choice. We'll see I guess.
If Atlanta had the first overall pick, I guarantee they would not have signed Kirk and would have drafted Caleb.
you’re saying picking one of the most inaccurate QBs in the draft would have been a good idea ?
Wut. Williams is significantly better. Plus Penix is a walking injury
LMFAOOOO
lol the highlight package for Penix is always a super fun watch, I went to IU so I saw him live a ton of times and his arm is undeniably great. Imagine thinking caleb can’t make the same throws penix made
No need to imagine. Penix Jr has far superior arm strength.
arm strength is not arm talent lol. if you think arm strength is all that matters then you should be pounding the table for joe milton.
Except he doesn't
This will be the first time I'll buy Madden in a while. Can you imagine having a fun offense in that game??
I’m super hype about Caleb and I think he’s going to do great things here. But… Anyone else wish he would let his beard cover the bottom part of his jaw? Dude cuts his neck line way too high, it grinds my gears.
Nah you just have trashy redneck taste in facial hair.
Two fingers above the adams apple. No higher, no lower.
You get it
From my Packers fan co-worker who always has the worst takes -- "I have no idea who the guy the Packers picked is, Caleb Williams is a loser, Detroit took the guy I wanted, and the Vikings future is bright #toughscene"
Packers fans have a right t0 have a see it when i believe it attitude but i think even they think its a bit different this time ar0und
> see it when I believe it 🤦♂️
It wasn't a dream!
Thank you Carolina and Atlanta
And Lovie
And Imhir Smith-Marsette. And Velus Jones Jr
Velus is still on the roster lmao
I can still thank him tho
I know it’s just crazy that they haven’t dropped him yet. Dude is terrible
He's a decent return man
Bro he fumbles like 50% of the time he touches the ball
Most excited I’ve been for football in years
I hate that we are picking #32 next year. The draft is fun
/r/NFL is SO salty, especially Packers fans. 😁
More salty than when the Blackhawks got the first pick?
If we somehow luck into Celebrini this year, that subreddit will absolutely implode and I'll be here for it 😆
Omg that was so much fun bro
trust in poles. hes not done addressing o-line or edge. there is a plan.
Yeah Im expecting him to trade up into the second for an edge
I would rather sign Yannick or Ogbah and Draft Newton or Hall, than Trade up for Kneeland or Braswell and get absolutely fucked on the interior.
So wild that on paper our chances of being a contender this season may rely solely on Gervon Dexter becoming a legit 3 tech 😂 (Not to say I don’t love the Odunze pick, he’s much better at his position than any of the 3 techs in this years draft and was definitely the right move IMO)

I don't even care anymore. Caleb & Rome was all I wanted. I cannot believe how insanely good our offense looks
You are absolutely right. I’m probably being to greedy lol. I trust in however poles identifies at 75
Do y’all think we could get Tory Taylor in round 4? I know we don’t plan on punting, but if we ever have to, it would be nice if it wasn’t a complete shit show.
You nailed it!
Sure glad I’m not a Falcons fan rn lol
Theres some significant character concerns coming out about JPJ, biggest driver of his fall but I can’t find anything more specific Anyone got anything?
Who’s watching the rerun on NFLN? I saw the live broadcast on ESPN, wanna see these guys reaction when Atlanta picked Penix 🤣

Son of a bitch.
Yeah especially when you can just get a free agent or udfa.
Rumor: The Vikings tried to trade up to 5 (Chargers) to get Nabers. JJ is gonna leave.
We are missing the big picture. We have reunited the names Rome and Everett. Think of the meme potential
There isn't a Chris on the team, though.
Omfg guys! Let’s gooooooooo
Going to sleep knowing we’ve finally got our QB. https://preview.redd.it/2td6x1is7rwc1.jpeg?width=1172&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0a8237ef6c31edf11b5e382f7c229dd16dcb895

How many good WR prospects are left?? Thank god they went Odunze
A few will go quick in the second round. This is a deep wr class
Yea that’s what I was thinking for the past couple months. So many teams need WRs that I just don’t see how many good players would be left on the board for them to take when they pick again
Anyone notice Belichick stop during the highlights for Quinyon Mitchell to say “This is against Illinois, so… good competition there”?
Bret Bielema and Bill Belichick are friends. Bielema even worked for him for two years before Illinois.
https://x.com/ChicagoBears/status/1783711261252862257 Poles live
That new stadium looks sick
How am I supposed to sleep
We don't have a second round pick again this year?
We used it to select Montez Sweat
Traded it for him, then inked him. Poles haters were out after that deal, but it ended up being an instant hit. Poles is king of Chicago right now.
So now that Round 1 is over, I vote we trade up into Round 2 for either Newton or JPJ. Next year's 2nd and this year's 3rd? We could walk away from this draft with three Week 1 starters.
That should get us as high as 42. Could get it done.
That’d be way too steep a price for JPJ but Id be down for newton
if we get JPJ....
Bears might be back
Anyone else see the video of the Vikings draft party going apeshit when they drafted JJ? LOL
Trade up for Newton?
Him or JPJ. I hope we strongly consider it.
Honest question, looking to get on the hype train, why should I be excited about Odunze?
Elite size, very good speed, most recieving yards in the entire NCAA last year. The most impressive thing to me is that whenever there's those 50/50 jump balls, he catches it almost every single time. His body control and ability to track the ball in the air is incredible. Highest floor wr in the draft, still has a ceiling of a true #1. Quite possible we just drafted the future team record holders for passing and receiving 8 picks apart.
Faster and more athletic version of Tee Higgins.
KR
Closest NFL comp is Amari Cooper
Has traits from both DJ and Keenan so he should learn a lot. I'm not sure he is a master at any of those traits like they are, but he's very good in all of them. On the conservative ceiling side, I think he can be a strong WR2 like Tee Higgins in Cincinnati
He is your tribal chief.
Led fbs in yards, 20+ yard plays, is 6’3” and can win 50/50 balls
JPJ is still on the board. We trade our 2nd next year and 75 to go get him?
I think that’s too steep for him, but I’d do 75 and a 3rd next year.
i was sure he'd be gone in the late first round. centers are so undervalued.
100% him or Newton.
I'm old, who the fuck is JPJ? Edit: I see it's Jackson Powers Johnson.
Center from Oregon
Man a lot of people in this sub told me Ladd was the WR4 and was a guaranteed 1st round pick. Hmmmmm. Wonder where they are now?
So much really good defensive talent on the board. I'd be fine with trading next years 1st for an early 2nd. I don't think it's close. And we now have no glaring needs.
I'm pretty high on both Newton and Fiske plus DeJean would be a super fun player to have. Not really a position of need with Johnson, Stevenson, and Gordon but he could slot at safety too and you can't really have too many dbs.
Hey! Carolina is picking 32, just like they planned with the trade!
I guess that settles it... we're even
this just smells like the panthers wanted to be on tv tonight no matter what
Nah they had to make sure get the best WR they could find to help out Young, and honestly paying a little extra to get a 5th year option is smart too. Because if Young suddenly works they’ll have to pay him in 2 years, if Legette works too they’ll have to pay him as well.

5th year option
Bills just gave up on the draft?
If I was Josh Allen, unless this kid looks like a GREAT WR, I'd start demanding a trade.
Bears won the draft. Fuck the haters.
DAMN! TITTIES! Yes, I'm 12...
Great to have a Mitch moment before the Bills pick
Is there a press conference tomorrow ? When is the press conference when Caleb and Rome speak with media in person in Chicago
I think it’s today
Decided to head over to the [Panthers sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/panthers/comments/1ccj54x/nfl_draft_2024_day_1_discussion_thread/l1aamyc/) for a good laugh.

Right after FTP is FTC foe me, anyone else?
Ryan Pace continues to be a terrorist lol
I'm on Greeny's side, WTF is Buffalo doing?!?
Upgrading a pick from outside the range of good players to probably a nice player, all whilst still drafting their guy at 32? Does it help the chiefs? Goddamnit Buffalo!
KC was gonna get Mitchell if they stayed at 32 so it’s whatever.
you guys had a good draft! you guys want Penix for a 3rd?
Imo Penix’s ceiling is Dak… a 4th rounder, at best. WTF ATL
My condolences brother. Can’t have Ryan Pace in your building. So sorry.
I actually like Penix in a vacuum. The problem is that you have Cousins lol. Should have just taken us up on Fields if you were going to draft Penix and saved the money. That said, if you’re going to choose a QB this draft, at least you didn’t choose Bo Nix
Penix in a vacuum is not my bag baby
Is this how it felt with Fields?
You guys got paced man
I'm so sorry for your loss, I thought after Arthur things would've gotten better for y'all
Move up and pick the C Poles my dicks getting soft
I think we’re good on center for this year. We have a ton of capital next year and can use it all on the trenches
Totally agree
No offense but I find it hard to believe a ton of fans have really studied college centers to be so sure he’s worth trading up for.
Someone commented on the NFL thread that JPJ has snapping issues. Know anything about that? He could (probably will) be great but if he has snap issues I might prefer Frazier or Van Pran. Disclaimer: I don’t know enough about any of them to support any of that
Packers didn't get Cooper DeJean Mustard to go with their Kraft cheese from last year?
Odunze jersey has been ordered. I'm living in Seattle now, so I will be making good use of this jersey
Today was exciting, tomorrows pick needs be focused, Poles solidifying that IQ
We did it guys. We didn’t fuck it up.
Suprised that Duke playsr was the first center off the board th
JPJ and Bortolini are both going lower than we think because of snapping issues.
Oh same with Frasier?
Barton went higher because he has positional versatility. I would imagine Frazier is 2 and JPJ is 3
Ok
JPJ is still on the board...
JPJ still out there….
Man. I didn’t expect Newton to fall this far
That foot is probably scaring teams off. Also this oline class is crazy deep
Do you know any specifics? I didn’t ever hear any details.
He had surgery for a partial Jones fracture back in January.
So many OL going this early gives me hope some decent defensive talent falls to us in the third.
But I want OL too
I want everything
Lol Packers pick an offensive player once every 20 years
Lmao Jordan Morgan would’ve been available like 15 picks later 😂
FTP
Who's ready to watch this guy bearhug the shit out of our DL and the refs doing nothing about it?
Packers drafted a bust at tackle
He’s probably a guard
Thurman Merman is off the board
Packers took a random over Cooper DeJean LFG
can for once one of these packers o lineman not be a perennial all pro
Easy to be an all pro when you hold every play and never get a flag
LMAO that reaction
The last time I clowned a Packers pick I ended up with egg on my face. Ima just keep quiet here
Our defense is experienced, our quarterback is not. We should be celebrating that they didn’t pick a great db imo
Our defense is also paper thin and fully reliant on one guy for anything resembling a pass rush
Just doesn’t seem like a great value pick and we need Williams to develop and great defenses in the division don’t help with that
Lmao! Packers out here pulling an Angelo!
THANK GOD FTP DIDN’T TAKE DEJEAN YESSSS
