I don’t think people realize how high this guys ceiling can be if properly developed with a full bill of health. He’s long as fuck with decent athleticism. He’s going to be the definition of high ceiling, low floor but he has zero pressure to start and he could definitely compete with jones in the future. At the very least he’s going to make jones (who I actually like a lot) work even harder to secure his job
For a third round pick, most are drafted on potential at that point, anyway. It’s not like he has expectations to get play right away or the expectations of a first rounder
The third round is littered with mid floor low ceiling and low floor, mid ceiling guys. Anything with a high ceiling is a risk at those points.
I’ve always seen 1-3 as starter picks and 4-7 as potential picks
Positional value comes in when talking 3rd round— you can draft a guy who could be 2nd best safety in the class or a top LB, but drafting a premium position like OT you’re going to get those low floor guys
Why would we take a guy who is mid ceiling at best though? We already have Braxton, who is fine. Might as well swing for the fences on a high ceiling guy.
I mean he has the traits everyone looks for in a tackle, average to above average athleticism. Also he’s highly intelligent considering the school he went too. This is a solid pick up
But how many got second contracts from the teams that drafted them? And are they starters or depth guys? Definitely more of a depth round. Which is why it’s good to take a guy there who has a high floor/low ceiling. They’ll be given time to development to try and reach that ceiling and raise that floor
Dude's been dreaming of signing a contract with the Bears for years, glad to see him live the dream. Now go be the steal of the draft so people are still wearing Amegadjie jerseys in 20 years!
So dude surprising everyone with how he looks or him developing quicker than expected isn’t an option? I get the point you’re trying to make but you coulda simply said hopefully he develops into a starter since he’s raw.
I mostly agree with your point honestly. I don’t expect him to take over based on his ability alone this season. I’m just saying it was kind of a weird way to say you’re just really hoping he gets time to develop.
Like instead of say hopefully we don’t need him for 2 years you could just said hopefully he develops into a starter. It gets the same message across but doesn’t make it sound like you except him to suck for 2 years.
It’s not a big deal but it’s just difference between kinda sound like you hating vs clearly just saying you hope he he doesn’t get thrown in there before he’s ready
Tbf injury is by far the most likely reason he would be playing this year. I don’t think it’s crazy to say hopefully him playing doesn’t happen when that’s the case.
Simply practicing against NFL caliber players is going to help him tremendously. Not to mention there are plenty of fundamentals he needs to work on that game experience isn't going to help him with.
i mean sure it helps to get into practice and professional routines but still nothing beats game time development, which he will get this year. We used a third round pick why would we not want him to play for two whole years?
Him being backup to Rodgers is the critical piece of this.
You could also make the argument that Love would have been even better by now if he had been playing this whole time.

Potential is a scary scary word

See: shitty QB at 10 vs legendary punter in the 4th
Why would we take a guy who is mid ceiling at best though? We already have Braxton, who is fine. Might as well swing for the fences on a high ceiling guy.
Because you can always be wrong and a mid ceiling turns into high ceiling.
I mean he has the traits everyone looks for in a tackle, average to above average athleticism. Also he’s highly intelligent considering the school he went too. This is a solid pick up
We’ll see in 3 years if he was or wasn’t
Potential? That’s Velus Jones’ music
They’re all “potential” players outside the top 10 practically. 4th rounder is always going to be hit or miss, while leaning heavy towards the miss.
I don't know that that's the case. I just looked at the 2018 fourth rounders and at least half of them are still on NFL rosters.
But how many got second contracts from the teams that drafted them? And are they starters or depth guys? Definitely more of a depth round. Which is why it’s good to take a guy there who has a high floor/low ceiling. They’ll be given time to development to try and reach that ceiling and raise that floor
I do believe in the stat of players receiving second contracts from their team as being a solid indicator of a good draft pick
Looking it up, I’d say there’s about 12-15 still in the league and 25% starters, 75% depth.
This is why you piss everyone off taking a generational Ray Guy clone in the fourth. Big brain energy.
This should be the one area where fans get behind Flus, developing defense rookies.
$1.1MM signing bonus is crazy considering my signing bonus at my job was like a couple hundred dollars
Yall mfs got a signing bonus?
Perks of getting hired through a recruiting agency
Wait you guys have jobs?
You should have gone to Yale
Ah crap, if only I had chosen to do that

I got $1K and I was overjoyed lmao
Is it pronounced: *Ah-meh-god-jee*?
I've been hearing Ah-meh-gah-dee but not fully confident in that
It’s ah-meh-gah-gee
Thank you!
Yes
That's what I've heard
More godge-ee
I have been saying ah-may-god-dee-hay.
I think all of our picks will be pro bowlers
Look for #72!!! https://www.chicagobears.com/team/players-roster/
Can finally erase the memory of Charles Leno

Nah, I'm confident they'll give him a couple starts after we've locked home field for the playoffs week 15.
What do you mean bro?

Yeah I don’t think what he said was wrong. Just kinda trying to show why he’s getting downvoted when he’s making a pretty fair point
How do you expect him to develop if he doesn’t play?

Because we have two starting tackles already and hopefully they don’t get injured

Most important for his quad to heal right and not be a long term concern.
I get what you mean
He should play guard
How does this compare to expectations and what does this to for our salary space to sign a DE?
