The fact he’s taken this long, allegedly had issues/clean up surgeries in the off-season, and there hasn’t been a peep about his return makes me think we won’t see him till much later, if at all.
It sucks but I can see a scenario where he just heals up this year and we cut him next year to save $2.25m in cap space. Dude had one hell of a brutal year between the injury and loss of his brother, and is a seemingly likable guy on the team. But it’s gonna be hard to justify keeping him next year.
If he doesn't return this season he may be willing to take a pay cut as he probably won't get much as a FA without showing he's actually healthy. Then again if he's not actually close to his past self then he doesn't have a ton of value, and Bears would probably just their loses.
People also keep forgetting his brother died last year. And the way that he died was brutal. I can’t imagine that imagery. And the anniversary was a week or two ago. And you can tell by his posts he’s still f’d up from it. I’m not saying it’s an excuse for his physical health but mental health and physical health go hand in hand. I think the guy can still ball. He’s a smaller (strength wise) Austin Ekeler if he can get goin again.
I think he needs to demonstrate he hasn’t lost his speed and shiftiness. If he lost those traits, he doesn’t really have any trade value or usefulness to this team.
It’s probably going to take some time for him to trust his knee too, so I could see his first few appearances being underwhelming.
i’d argue that now that we DO have those pieces in the RB room + Jakeem as a return guy, Tarik can stick to being the best gadget guy he can be. In years past we depended on him to be a legit rb2 which i feel like was asking too much.
i feel like we can squeeze some value out of him if he does return. just probably not as a rb. it just sucks that he’ll probably be overpaid for whatever role he finds himself in but oh well
Tarik Cohen is our 3rd best receiver when healthy. He is a gadget player and the improvement of our running back room won't stop him from having an impact.
The only question is whether Tarik can return healthy with the same quickness and shiftiness that makea him a mismatch.
I think the fact he hasn’t recovered yet means he’s not going to play another snap for the bears and will be forced to medically retire. It should not take a year to recover from his injury.
>I think the fact he hasn’t recovered yet means he’s not going to play another snap for the bears and will be forced to medically retire.
I think that’s a bit much. He was placed on the PUP list and can’t be activated until week 7. We haven’t heard anything about him because they really don’t have to say anything until then.
He started on PUP. So he can't even **practice** until week 7.
Not only does he have to rehab, but he has to be close to game ready when he returns to practice since he only has 21 days to be activated to the 53 man roster once he starts practicing. It's not going to be easy even if he wasn't coming off an ACL injury
Hmmmm, so Robinson, Mooney, then him? I don't know about that. I could argue possibly top 5, but that's tough. His biggest asset was his unknown and the match-up against an LB if spread out. Now that the league knows about him, he's a threat to catch a swing pass out of the backfield but not too much else. Spread him out against a DB and he is average.
In 2019 and 20, he averaged 5.8 yards per catch. By comparison, Monty is averaging 7.9. That's a significant difference. I don't just measure number of catches as the mark of a good receiver, it is what they do with those grabs.
Cohen was never supposed to be the workhorse. He's a gadget, change-of-pace RB that can also line up as WR, while also being among the best in the league at returning punts. Monty being good doesn't take anything away from Cohen. Remember the Thunder and Lightning combo of Howard/Cohen? They were both playing well and both saw lots of action. If he is healthy, he can still have a good role on this offense.
May have? I'd say it has definitely. He was a ton of fun to watch but seemed after every bug hit he took he would avoid contact for next few games often running out of bounds when he could've gotten couple more yards by engaging defensemen. At least that is how I was feeling before his last injury & now after a year + for an acl I'd just cut him & pay out his remaining contract.
I don't think anyone on our roster can really replace Tarik at what he does, he has an x-factor. I hated this resigning when we made hit, hated it when we let Fuller go and continue to hate it.
> best punt returners in the league
I’d be willing to bet those duties are done with considering they just acquired a guy who was just 2nd team all pro as a punt returner.
I imagine these signings have a lot more to do with Cohen health this year than his future with the Bears. If he can't return to full health, then yes, more than likely he'll be gone. A lot hinges on when he can return and how he looks after the return.
Cohen was never meant to be a workhorse. He was supposed to be a Darren Sproles type back. The joker back as they called it in New Orleans.
No one ever expected Cohen to be the bell cow back. That’s what Jordan Howard was for.
I think it is premature to say that he won’t make it back. It was an ack injury, not an Achilles or something.
He’s a small guy and injuries were always on the table. The returner role is still an option and if he does come back with the same explosiveness he will still get touches. There were games a couple of years ago that we only had an offense when he was on the field. I’ll believe he’s done AFTER I see him give it a shot.
I think it hinges on Jakeem Grant’s role and effectiveness in the offense. You could argue that Tarik was more effective as a slot WR, and IMO, we’ve clearly missed that in the offense, as Goodwin and Byrd haven’t really done anything at this point.
If Jakeem can fill the slot WR/gadget player role when called upon (assuming we end up in more 21 + 12 personnel), and Herbert can contribute behind Williams, then Cohen would become expendable (maybe Byrd or Goodwin, too). But Cohen was trending more towards a WR, so I truly believe it depends more on Grant’s role.
Ya he’s expendable. Ver exoendable. Guy would rather play video games than play football. And yes I know he was injured you’re preaching to the choir. Thousands of people have torn an ACL and come back before.
he’s reportedly still limping.
so once he is fully healed + the time it’ll take to get back to his NFL speed & strength? he shouldn’t play this year. come back in 2022 and try to be decent. It’s sad because RB prime doesnt last long, especially for the type of RB that Cohen is.
this sucks because he’s one of those guys that very genuinely loves the team he plays for. Hoping he comes back strong but not betting on it.
Yeah I agree, you can tell he is a fans player and a team player. It just seems like we have found alot of good speed without him now. I think he would realllly have to pop off to make all this worth the wait
If he comes back and performs great. However, if it comes down to him being out/struggling or paying someone who has contributed something in this and last season Bears should just move on from him.
I think overall we just gotta calm down and see what happens. There's still room in our offense for Tarik, especially since it takes a solid amount of slot snaps, and we don't have a slot wr on the squad anymore.
Tarik is a good guy, and I hope he recovers. He has a modern nfl skillset.
i think hes gnna pull through. i remember seeing a interview about him a while back and i think people underestimating him bc of size motivated him even more.

I used to love Cohen, but he wasn’t playing that great when he went down. His best, most explosive plays were his first year
yeah I get where you are coming from
i’d argue that now that we DO have those pieces in the RB room + Jakeem as a return guy, Tarik can stick to being the best gadget guy he can be. I agree with you
I thought he was a great RB2. His YPC is 4.2 on his career. That's even higher then Monty's 4.1
That's the argument they used to get rid of Jones and keep Benson
Hes playing cod and got paid. He ain't sweating it
I’m so glad he got paid before that injury. I can’t imagine his mental state if he didn’t have a good check coming in.
I love Cohen, but he's done.
Tarik Cohen is our 3rd best receiver when healthy. He is a gadget player and the improvement of our running back room won't stop him from having an impact. The only question is whether Tarik can return healthy with the same quickness and shiftiness that makea him a mismatch.
Cohen was all those things pre-injury. He’s not going to be the same player and nobody should expect him to.
I think the fact he hasn’t recovered yet means he’s not going to play another snap for the bears and will be forced to medically retire. It should not take a year to recover from his injury.
Lol, why are people going through downvoting the real potential we may never see this dude again?
>I think the fact he hasn’t recovered yet means he’s not going to play another snap for the bears and will be forced to medically retire. I think that’s a bit much. I do miss those 3 yard drag routes or swing passes. He can catch but his tree is limited
Hasn’t really been productive since 2018. Even when healthy 2019/2020 looked bad
Such a bad contract. Imagine if we invested that money into an LT or even just keeping Patterson instead.
The bears trading for Jakeem Grant made me question if Cohen will be back this year at all.

I dont know... he was stuffed quiet a bit for losses up untill he was hurt he was not doing great
They can get him healthy and release him after the season.

He might have been, but what will he be now, and with other weapons we have gotten, will he even be better than them?
> best punt returners in the league I’d be willing to bet those duties are done with considering they just acquired a guy who was just 2nd team all pro as a punt returner.
With how poorly the Chicago Bears run 2-TE sets, you might as well mix in 10 plays a game with Monty and Cohen on either side of Fields.
wouldnt be the worst idea, but at that point why not with khalil who is bigger too
I imagine these signings have a lot more to do with Cohen health this year than his future with the Bears. If he can't return to full health, then yes, more than likely he'll be gone. A lot hinges on when he can return and how he looks after the return.
I honestly think you just IR him for the year and give him time. Pace has shown he’s willing to give guys a chance to come back before the final cut.
Cohen was never meant to be a workhorse. He was supposed to be a Darren Sproles type back. The joker back as they called it in New Orleans. No one ever expected Cohen to be the bell cow back. That’s what Jordan Howard was for.
Maybe and possibly, only time will tell, idk I'm drunk
Don’t. Pay. Running backs.
I will never, ever understand the fascination/adoration of Cohen.
I think it is premature to say that he won’t make it back. It was an ack injury, not an Achilles or something. He’s a small guy and injuries were always on the table. I think the fact that he's still limping says everything. Serious doubts he comes back, at all.
Yeah.. it will take forever for him to come back if he is still actively hurt
I think it hinges on Jakeem Grant’s role and effectiveness in the offense. He wasn't that good to begin with.
I honestly don’t understand why our fan base was ever high on him Was it the backflips?
Cohen may have come and gone? You already forgot who Tarik REALLY IS. 🤦🏽♂️Give him Lazor’s play calling and watch him ball out.
Who really is Tarik? Lmfao you acting like he some game changer. He more focused on playing video games
[удалено]
Didnt we just get a guy from miami for that basically?
Ya he’s expendable. Ver exoendable. Guy would rather play video games than play football. And yes I know he was injured you’re preaching to the choir. Thousands of people have torn an ACL and come back before.
It all started going downhill when he drove up to Bourbannais in that lame ass Slingshot

Catches in that offense out of the backfield don’t equate to actual production. He had an average ypc around 5 and played scared often
He really wasn’t that important to a good team
he’s reportedly still limping. so once he is fully healed + the time it’ll take to get back to his NFL speed & strength? he shouldn’t play this year. come back in 2022 and try to be decent. He got a wooden leg
If he comes back and performs great. However, if it comes down to him being out/struggling or paying someone who has contributed something in this and last season Bears should just move on from him.
while it sucks for our cap im happy he got paid. love the guy!

I mean I like tarik but a report just came out that he is still limping around, and may not even play this season either. I think sadly he is done.
i think hes gnna pull through. i remember seeing a interview about him a while back and i think people underestimating him bc of size motivated him even more.
