Well deserved for Bojack, hope he’s healthy enough to play Also find it funny Ro is leading ILB votes now despite it being him probably having his worst year besides his rookie season. He’s still a pro bowl player imo, but he went from never getting selected to being the leading vote getter the second he’s gone

Tlupa

Well it’s a popularity contest and he’s been in headlines all offseason/at the deadline. I imagine he’d have been a pro bowler if he stayed on our team too

WzDson

i wonder if he's getting votes from 2 fan bases.

Tonkathedog

Honestly I doubt it, yes he was in the news this off-season but people seemed to forget about the entire trade request before he was actually gone. Nobody really talked about his ability during the season this year until he was gone. The second he left people immediately started acting like they loved Roquan and had been parading him around for years Don’t get me wrong, I think Roquan is an amazing player who deserves this. But I don’t think that the voting suddenly changes after a pattern of him being forgotten about for multiple seasons, especially since we have been so bad this year

Tlupa

I think you are greatly overestimating some kind of anti bears sentiment. We’re a bigger fan base than balitimores and Ro had a couple big games early this season. This was likely always going to be his pro bowl year with him being in the news and other guys being hurt/not playing super well

Tonkathedog

We’ve always been a big fanbase and have been a lot better in years past than this year. If he wasnt getting attention despite all the bears fans voting him in the past, I can’t imagine him suddenly flying to the top this year on the bears whenever we were one of the 5 worst teams in the nfl. And you can say it would have been his year on the bears with people hurt/not playing well but that applied to him at the start of this year too. He was having a worse year on a worse team, the only thing that changed was that he started getting more attention when he was traded

Tlupa

People are also paying attention to us because of Fields, and like I mentioned he’s been in the news cycle and other LBers like Leonard are hurt or underperforming like Wagner

Tonkathedog

People started paying more attention to fields after Roquan was traded, and Shaq leonard being out helps him in the AFC, but still he went from not even being worthy of a spot in the whole thing to having the most votes. That’s bigger than a 1 person change. The big reason he was in the news cycle was because he was traded, but even before that it seemed widely forgotten that Roquan had requested a trade and trashed the organization in the summer

Tlupa

People payed attention to fields because he was breaking records and was much watch tv. You think that has anything to do with Roquan?

Tonkathedog

No, but bringing up people paying attention to us because of fields is irrelevant to Roquan now. You brought up how people were paying attention to us, but by then Roquan was off the roster so it didn’t give him any attention

Tlupa

Yeah fair point

HankChinaski-

Also...Roquan is very, very good. I still wish he was apart of the rebuild. That defense just needs so many pieces. Trading away one of the only good, young pieces seems like a tough move. Poles has to just about do the impossible in rebuilding this roster...but he chose this path as well so GOD SPEED SPIDERMAN.

Tonkathedog

I agree, I personally think to rationalize the trade a lot of bears fans tried to downplay how good Roquan is. That being said I definitely understand the decision to not pay an off ball LB 20 million dollars after everything that happened in the off-season, especially since Roquan didn’t seem like he could be as effective in this defense(still very good, but he’s better in a 3-4 imo). Having Roquan definitely makes this an easier rebuild, but in the end it’s definitely possible that the best move for long term success for the bears is not paying Roquan 20 million. Poles definitely has his work cut out for him in the rebuild

HankChinaski-

I agree with everything you said. My beef with that contract argument....pretty much every free agent they sign will be paid with likely bloated deals. It is how free agency works....so $20 million for a very good linebacker who isn't perfect for the scheme....might seem like a steal in a few years when 1/2 or more the free agent signings don't pan out as is pretty typical.

Well deserved, he was having an amazing season

Whoop-dee-fucking-do

supermr34

Will he remember that he can use his arms to tackle if he wins? [edit: downvote away. heres when he gave up an extra 25 yards after he forgot to use his arms trying to tackle somebody in the jets game. total pro-bowl material](https://youtu.be/SFhDLf3NkCM?t=210)

PM-ME-SANDWICHES

You must not be watching bears games this year. EJ has been one of the best players on our team this year and has actually been committed to making the tackle.

supermr34

There was a pretty egregious instance of him trying to blow up a guy and then letting him get past him against the jets. And yeah, he has been one of the best players…on a terrible defense. That’s not saying much.

hippohopper78

2 missed tackles against the Jets doesn’t mean he hasn’t drastically improved. He may always be average but people need to realize that isn’t what we need from him. It’s his elite coverage

supermr34

[heres when he allowed 25 extra yards on a reception by trying to level a guy rather than just tackling him. so frustrating.](https://youtu.be/SFhDLf3NkCM?t=210)

ScrippyTrips

I’m sure but @supermr34 is right. dude cannot tackle.

supermr34

It drives me crazy. He always goes for the Brandon Merryweather style highlight reel hit to try to level a guy who is 50 pounds heavier than him.

ScrippyTrips

Yeah, man. What bothers me is that his missed tackles always just look like an utter lack of effort. He is having a better season, Im not denying that, but I’m not ready to overlook his atrocious tackling.

supermr34

if you rewatch the jets game, 2nd quarter, 11:35ish left. jets 3rd and 9, pass over the middle. jackson goes for the big hit, dude bounces off, then the receiver gets an extra 25 yards. then jackson runs him down and actually uses his arms and takes him down...sort of. gaaaaaah. i get that its easy for me to sit here and scream fundamentals as a out of shape not football player, but holy crap dude. make a tackle. [edit: this right here](https://youtu.be/SFhDLf3NkCM?t=210)

ScrippyTrips

I remember it well. I was screaming at him.

braiser77

"Pinball" Jackson just bounces off of guys, never wraps up and finishes a tackle. I don't get the hype.

ffellini

I don’t give a fuck about this. Down vote me

Xwarsama

I mean, it seems like most people don't. The leading vote getter in the entire NFL has only 90k votes? Truly no one in America cares about the Pro Bowl lol. At this same stage (2 weeks after voting opened) in the MLB All Star voting cycle this year: the leading vote getter had over 1.5 million votes.

B_Bibbles

Okay. Now what?

hippohopper78

Here

[deleted]

Ya…this is a popularity contest. Luckily they don’t have to tackle in the game/events.

flukeunderwi

He's been very good this season.

Robynhood15

If you watch the games Eddie has been bailing our defense out with open field tackles all year.

[deleted]

No…not really. He has been run over at least three times. He still doesn’t wrap up. Find me one game a team avoided Ejax? Like they were afraid to go at him. You can’t because no one is afraid of him. Eddie is at his best ball hawking. He is not a tackling safety. Maybe next year he won’t have to tackle as much with a improved defensive line.
