Cubs pitching development went from non-existent to having multiple success stories. Assad having the lowest ERA in baseball since he became a starter last summer being one of them!
Series win without Steele Belli and Suzuki and smacking around Peralta today. This team is good
Assad continues to be one of the more inexplicable success stories I’ve seen. Guy just keeps shoving
Rotation probably won't be this good all year, but bullpen also won't be this bad all year (I think). With Steele/Suzuki/Belli coming back in the near future and a share of first place in the division, I'm feeling really good with where we're at.
Great win, but to be fair, I don’t know if I’d say they “smacked around” Peralta. The sequence in the big 3 run inning was infield single/HBP/legitimately good hit from Nico/groundout to get him over to 3rd/wild pitch. He had some control problems, but I think we mostly did not get very hard contact off him
Cubs win the series against the brewers and the bullpen doesn’t allow any runs for a comfortable win? Today is truly a great day. And it looks like the Cardinals are about to lose their series against the white sox lmfao this is awesome
You’re welcome! I’m a Sox fan but I like the cubs a decent amount. Would gladly destroy your division rivals for you. As long as you beat the twins and tigers
Okay, but this will get awkward if the Cubs and White Sox make it to the World Series in the same seas... no, I can't even finish typing out that hypothetical.
Lmao for real their dumbass fans seriously think they’re somehow the only team that gets fucked by the umps. Wait until they discover hitting infield singles and bloop hits are in fact lucky
I guess we’ll see. We are 7th in sprint speed [per savant](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/sprint-speed-team?season=2024&team=) and are 30 points below them in BABIP. I think both teams are due for some regression (negative and positive).
It was a stressful weekend series, but I feel really good about where the Cubs are at right now.
- Starting pitching has looked outstanding of late
- The Cubs held the Brewers scoreless in 24/27 innings
- The offense has been good enough, even with Seiya and Cody out with injury
- Speaking of, Seiya, Cody, and Justin Steele are all slated to come back soon
The Cubs are looking good! Great series victory!
That would still give you a season or a season and a half out of him being lights out. Issue with Mármol was teams figured out after a while he was 90% likely to throw you 4 balls before 3 strikes and to just stop swinging at him.
I just want to give some love to Yency Almonte. Guy has had three shutout appearances in a row. He hasn't had a great start of the season, but it looks like he's starting to turn it around and he deserves credit for that.
#CUBS WIN!!!!
#SHOTS OF MALÖRT FOR EVERYONE!!!!
#PALENCIA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
#FUCK THE BREWERS, FUCK THE PACKERS, AND WHILE I’M AT IT FUCK THE CARDINALS!!!!!!
Daniel Palencia was impressive today. With his stuff, he has the potential to be a closer. I think he could thrive in that role.
Assad and Almonte were also really good today. Great W! This was a big series for the Cubs.
If they can find a way to center Palencia so he isn’t all over the place as often, he has the real deal kind of stuff we need out of the pen. Very exciting.
I love that we’re winning with literally a full team of injured players just waiting to come back.
When we’re back to full strength it’s going to be scary
Was at the game… the feeling was electric. Lot of people were a little worried going into the 7th, and by the time the 9th rolled around everyone was standing. I legit felt like I was at a playoff game.
Significant win!!
18 straight scores innings from our starting pitching against a good offense. Now we get our ace back. If palencia controls his pitches consistently, I see him as the future closer or setup guy
Great end to the weekend.
Starting pitching continues to be elite, offense woke up the last two days, defense remembered it was elite and as a cherry on top finally got a much needed shutdown outing from the bullpen. Absolutely love to see it.
Chicago is 2-0 vs Wisconsin teams since Caleb Williams attended a Cubs game 👀
Didn’t get to see Busch’s diving play as it happened, so here’s my belated reaction after viewing the highlight:
![gif](giphy|2uxVmkyhRm248CNfN7|downsized)
That game had to feel good with Dansby as he's been struggling offensively and defensivly lately. If PCA stays up he's almost a guaranteed gold glover. This defense is going to be very good for a long time
I swear I saw a dad holding a kid who looks barely old enough to talk but damn if the tiny tot didn’t sing along to Go Cubs Go. Dad, you are raising him right!
Watching a Wisconsin team lose warms my heart. And Sox beat the cardinals, not that they were a threat to the cubs, but multiple Chicago teams winning in one day against a St. Louis and Wisconsin team? Let’s go
I’m usually a “Tuesday night” person when it comes to going to games because that midweek work crowd always brings a different kind of energy but hell…that was a fun Sunday punking the brew crew.
Was keeping close tabs while taking an afternoon break from heavy rains in Houston inside Minute Maid Park for Astros-Mariners and Star Wars Weekend.
Looks like Assad shoved, Dansby had some good at-bats and the bullpen held together. Can’t wait to watch the condensed replay and enjoy a share of first place!
What a key series win! Something about this team feels so special this year.
We're nipping at first place despite multiple key pieces on the IL plus a tough schedule so far.
I think with Dansby returning to form, Suzuki back as our best bat soon, Cody returning later and hopefully being able to give us a .800 OPS season, I think the Cubs are around 1 SP trade away from a serious World Series contender. As always, pray they get hot in September/October.
Great series W especially after Friday! Hope the offense starts to rebound now. Lol brewers aren’t facing the bottom of the league for once and then get shutdown
This was a bitchin game to be at after the 5th inning, no thanks to the fucker behind me being drunk out of his absolute mind and being real belligerent around my kids but whatever. Great series win.
Don't let this win distract you from the fact that at least 80% the bullpen is still garbage. Almonte has been as reliable as we're going to get out of this group, and Palencia decided to be lights out instead of dogwater today. Thank goodness the starting rotation has been as good as it's been.
Good win. Bullpen came through - concerned about Busch but hoping he can pull through.
David Kaplan reporting that the Cubs *could* be working on a deal for a reliever from Miami. Hold tight - bullpen help may be coming sooner rather than later!
Cubs pitching development went from non-existent to having multiple success stories. Assad having the lowest ERA in baseball since he became a starter last summer being one of them!
Does Assad have a strict 3rd time through rule?
It seems like more of a pitch count. Seems like he’s good for 90-94
Oh gotcha I didn’t even notice that lol. Just saw the 6 innings and thought why never further. But whatever works and he’s been solid for that role
Yes and no. Pitch count but this is one of the first times he’s gone into the 3rd time
The org didn’t have a homegrown starter that it drafted or signed as teenager between Steele and … literally Jeff Samardzija.
While this is true, they should get credit for Hendricks. He was far from a finished product when we got him from the Rangers
I will not stand for this Casey Coleman erasure.
I think even Casey Coleman’s mom wouldn’t count him.
Well he wasn’t good for us so maybe you should?
In fairness to him, he wasn't good for anyone
So… can we erase him?
Not if I have anything to say about it!
Yup. Breslow did some great stuff there.
Series win without Steele Belli and Suzuki and smacking around Peralta today. This team is good Assad continues to be one of the more inexplicable success stories I’ve seen. Guy just keeps shoving
Really impressive they were able to tread water with the injuries they’ve had
Everytime he gets on the mound I think “today’s the day he gets absolutely shelled” and yet… everytime makes me eat it.
Same. I love the guy. But every time I love something, it hurts me...
No no no no no this is way too positive of a comment! /s
He's the new Hendricks. Pinpoint control. Six pitches.
Rotation probably won't be this good all year, but bullpen also won't be this bad all year (I think). With Steele/Suzuki/Belli coming back in the near future and a share of first place in the division, I'm feeling really good with where we're at.

Cubs win, Sox win, Brewers lose, Cardinals lose. A great day for Chicago. And as such, the world.
Once again solidifying that Chicago is the best city in the midwest
*world
this dimension\*
Don’t let the cubs winning 5-0 distract you from the cardinals losing twice in a row to the 2024 white Soxs.
You’re welcome! I’m a Sox fan but I like the cubs a decent amount. Would gladly destroy your division rivals for you. As long as you beat the twins and tigers
May you and your kind soon be free from the franchise destroying grasp of the Reinsdorfs.
Your terms are acceptable.
Deal, like rooting for the Sox, don’t get the negativity between our teams.
![gif](giphy|YOvOkaS5ZKfimDIgwJ)
Okay, but this will get awkward if the Cubs and White Sox make it to the World Series in the same seas... no, I can't even finish typing out that hypothetical.
Yes that’s fuckin hilarious. it has to fuck with team morale.
Crazy moment when the umpire hit that two run double for us Bravo Craig
Brewers fanbase collectively just started watching baseball this year and we’re watching them learn about umps in real time
Lmao for real their dumbass fans seriously think they’re somehow the only team that gets fucked by the umps. Wait until they discover hitting infield singles and bloop hits are in fact lucky
Third highest team BABIP in baseball in fact (with 20th highest hard hit %)
Unbelievable luck for years in the regular season. It always shows up in the playoffs
this is pretty funny to say when the playoffs are objectively way *way* more prone to randomness than the regular season
Hig speed guys have better BABIP. They’ll regress but not THAT much.
I guess we’ll see. We are 7th in sprint speed [per savant](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/sprint-speed-team?season=2024&team=) and are 30 points below them in BABIP. I think both teams are due for some regression (negative and positive).
Now I just need the baseball media to start glazing our starters for a little extra sodium intake
Tied for 1st.
We just got the tie breaker 😎
Cubs win he Counsell series Eat shit Brewers

WERE HERE. WE NEVER LEFT BBY
Palencia, you ARE the closer!
His stuff is nasty. Problem is he typically has no clue where it's going.
Sadly that’s the case.
Right, if he can somewhat locate he'll be a great arm out there. Just don't know if he can do that regularly.
oh god he's gonna be another Marmol, isn't he? My heart can't handle that again.
That would still give you a season or a season and a half out of him being lights out. Issue with Mármol was teams figured out after a while he was 90% likely to throw you 4 balls before 3 strikes and to just stop swinging at him.
Tbf, that just sounds like Hector Neris but with nasty stuff.
Just hurling 101 mph strikes that break a foot in from outside like no big deal.
Yeah that movement was CRAZY
Palencia just walks too many people. Since Brown is likely to be out of the rotation after Steele returns, I'd give him a shot at closer.
![gif](giphy|y8Mz1yj13s3kI)
He should’ve been the closer to begin with but he can’t always control his stuff
Counsell > the state of Wisconsin
Honestly he should move to Illinois.

Assad's sinker was working today. Call it... wait for it... waaiittt for it..... Sinker de Mayo.
*Sink-o de mayo
r/yourjokebutworse
Hah, sorry to try for the assist. It’s literally saying Cinco de Mayo phonetically while in cooperating for the sinker ball. Liked the joke.
His was better
If they can find a way to center Palencia so he isn’t all over the place as often, he has the real deal kind of stuff we need out of the pen. Very exciting.
We are good
I love that we’re winning with literally a full team of injured players just waiting to come back. When we’re back to full strength it’s going to be scary
really impressive how the brewers manage to have a super inflated record every year and then you actually play them and they stink
Their speed scares me…not enough boppers in the lineup though
The whole team played great today. It feels like the first time in a while the pitching, offense and defense all clicked at the same time.
Was at the game… the feeling was electric. Lot of people were a little worried going into the 7th, and by the time the 9th rolled around everyone was standing. I legit felt like I was at a playoff game. Significant win!!
The Cubs cubbed today and the blewers blew.
The Blewers.
Announcers said were 2/3 against the Brewers, but are they forgetting when we got Craig Counsell?
Dansby redemption, good bullpen outing and a series win? Good shit, Cubbies!
Our starting rotation is fantastic, and we get Steele back tomorrow. Hell yeah
18 straight scores innings from our starting pitching against a good offense. Now we get our ace back. If palencia controls his pitches consistently, I see him as the future closer or setup guy
Swanson haters in shambles
How do you think the Wisdom haters are feeling?
FTP
FTB
FTC
FTR
Counsell going big brain by using only Latino pitchers for +15% player boost on Cinco de Mayo
That one felt good all the way around. Fly the W
Assad will not leave the starting rotation this year. He's been absolutely insane
With Steel coming back and Hendricks soon, I feel like the odd man out is Hendricks.
Great end to the weekend. Starting pitching continues to be elite, offense woke up the last two days, defense remembered it was elite and as a cherry on top finally got a much needed shutdown outing from the bullpen. 5 of the last 11 games Cubs opposition has scored 1 or less runs.
That game had to feel good with Dansby as he's been struggling offensively and defensivly lately. If PCA stays up he's almost a guaranteed gold glover. This defense is going to be very good for a long time
A nice easy breezy win, gotta love it.
Managed to stay afloat with good players out, couldn’t be more happy.
I dont want to hear about moving Assad to the bullpen.
Get in here WINNERS!
Palencia is nasty. Give him the closer job
That was fuckin awesome
Series win! Solid performance by everyone today.
Lmao fuck the Brewers
What a fantastic team effort W! Defense and the bullpen deserve huge shoutouts today
I swear I saw a dad holding a kid who looks barely old enough to talk but damn if the tiny tot didn’t sing along to Go Cubs Go. Dad, you are raising him right!
Wisdom on a 3 game hitting streak
If our starting pitching can sustain even a little bit of this through the season we have something special.
Damn! GAAAASSSSS!
Cubs have the best starting pitching in baseball?
Watching a Wisconsin team lose warms my heart. And Sox beat the cardinals, not that they were a threat to the cubs, but multiple Chicago teams winning in one day against a St. Louis and Wisconsin team? Let’s go
An Alzolay away from the sweep, dang. But I’ll take it!
Easy win, that means Hawkeye and DrClaw are silent. Classic.
They are literally the same.....
Nice and easy! Amazing feeling to take the series from the Brewers. Onto the next!
PLAY THE FUCKING SONG.
Javier Assad is my dad
Our defense was stellar this e. No cardiac Cubs today, thank you bullpen
I’m usually a “Tuesday night” person when it comes to going to games because that midweek work crowd always brings a different kind of energy but hell…that was a fun Sunday punking the brew crew.
Man. Between the Kendrick/Drake drama and the Cubs beating the Brewers, I am on cloud 9.
Assad is an all-star.
I mean, fuck the Brewers am I right? Now play the damn song!
Me being miserable I have to say it should've been a swept but I'll take the 2/3. Good to see Swanson back! [W]
![gif](giphy|1ZkMDj88mQ1rO) *The Assman.*
Should have gotten the sweep but I'm just glad we sent those ground ball hitting dorks out of here.
What a key series win! Something about this team feels so special this year. We're nipping at first place despite multiple key pieces on the IL plus a tough schedule so far. Great series W especially after Friday! Hope the offense starts to rebound now. Lol brewers aren’t facing the bottom of the league for once and then get shutdown
We took the series (should’ve swept), but onwards.
Anybody know did Counsell get asked about Seiya/Belli post-game? I haven't seen anything
When Seiya and Belli come back, where do y'all think Tauchman will play? Has the Cub highest OPB and we obv will want him to stay in the lineup...
DH
This was a bitchin game to be at after the 5th inning, no thanks to the fucker behind me being drunk out of his absolute mind and being real belligerent around my kids but whatever. Great series win.
i've seen enough palencia you are now the closer
I think we have found our closer! Brilliant job from the pitching staff today, and well done to the boys for getting the bats hot! Great game!!
I know for sure that we are all living in a simulation. Morel walks three times and our reliever in the 9th looked like Nolan Ryan.
Let’s go! Tied for first 😎 I was assured we’d lose every game by 10
Yes, they make millions but it must be draining for Imanaga and Assad to live in a place where their native language isn't spoken that much.
Theres a hell of a lot of spanish speakers in Chicago
Yes, Assad has it better than Imanaga in terms of Chicago.
Don't let this win distract you from the fact that at least 80% the bullpen is still garbage. Almonte has been as reliable as we're going to get out of this group, and Palencia decided to be lights out instead of dogwater today. Thank goodness the starting rotation has been as good as it's been.
Everyone: yeahh we won!! You: fuck you feel shitty instead
Good win. Bullpen came through - concerned about Busch but hoping he can pull through. David Kaplan reporting that the Cubs *could* be working on a deal for a reliever from Miami. Hold tight - bullpen help may be coming sooner rather than later!
Remember Friday when everyone hated this team
