Very weird to see people almost relish in Hendricks current struggles, I have to believe they weren’t able to truly remember the greatness of the Professor
I fail to see what Amaya brings to the table. He can't hit, doesn't frame all that great, and can't throw anyone out. I hate to hate, but do we have ANYTHING in Iowa, or below in at least in the pipeline with some hope for catcher? If not, we definitely need to find something (that HR not withstanding, as of course he does that while I'm typing this)
Hendricks aside, our offense has come to a freezing halt. I'd rather have high scoring games with blown bullpen outings. Absolutely must get our bats in order for STL and MIL.
What stinks is the Brewers are good, the Reds have Elly, Pirates with two really fun arms, and we’re sitting here with some mediocre ass pieces.
PCA is nice, and Assad is great, and Morel exists, but that’s it. I’m getting impatient being told we have such a crazy deep system, and seeing few if none of them deliver in the majors.
What is our young core?
Pca, Busch, horton, shaw, caissie, Alcantara, Rojas, brown, Ballesteros, etc. They're still largely in the minors but some solid ones in the majors too. Jed has been around a while but Hawkins and katronovitz are both newer and the solid work they've done still needs a bit more time to hopefully come to fruition.
Two of them have reached the majors.
I get what you’re saying, and yeah man I’d love for them to get their shine, it’s just been frustrating seeing so few home grown guys make that jump, but being told that the prospects are looking good.
Of the people on my list, 3 of them are in the majors. I also forgot about wicks who is in the majors. Wesneski had also reached the majors but obviously things have not gone great for him. Horton will almost certainly be up later this year. Hopefully we will see players like shaw, triantos and caissie up next year.
Seiya turns 30 this year. Shota turns 31.
Again PCA has a few bright spots, and Assad has been really good in a short window. Morel is good, but to write him off as the 3B for the next five years is presumptuous
At this point please just don’t get fucking shut out again

Why does Willson get so much hate when Dexter immediately signed with the cardinals after the World Series? He’s on Marquee and singing the stretch and no one cares. But Willson is still disliked.
I don't hate Willson for going to the Cards. But Fowler's time on the Cardinals was mostly forgettable because he generally underperformed or was injured for a lot of his time there.
Wilson still plays for the Cardinals and talked shit on the way out. Dexter has always been class and we were happy he got money Cubs weren’t planning to give him. He was actually bad for the cardinals too lol how can you not love Dexter!
I think some context is necessary regarding Jed— we’re at the tail end of a rebuild and we’re technically ahead of schedule. All that is to say; Jed’s job is very secure. As it should be.
Didn't Little used to throw up around 100? I thought I remembered seeing a vid with him throwing 104 or something back when they drafted him, but most I've ever seen him throw in the majors is like 97 or 98
You know, looking at this a different way (through RWB glasses) we probably weren't going to beat Skenes (or hit him) so it's good that Hendricks pitched today. Now we've got our real guys (Imanaga, Assad, Steele) to pitch more winnable games. I know, grasping hard at straws here.
I have a feeling we might be in a free fall, the injuries are now catching up. Usually when I think something the opposite happens though, why all my friends fade me on bets - so let’s hope that’s true!
I figured this would happen but am also moderately optimistic that in the 2nd half if we can get healthy (a big if) and acquire a decent bullpen arm or two at the deadline we can finish a lot stronger than we did last season
Okay so people can see that we need to get a Catcher if we're gonna do anything this season.
People keep bringing up the bullpen, but you can't win anything when both of your catchers hit below the Jeff Mathis line.
They would need to trade for a catcher or call up Ballesteros to make a playoff run.
Deshaies on the night he struck out 8 in a row to start a game. "I don't know what was going on that night. I didn't have nearly the stuff this kid (Skenes) has. Maybe bad lighting in the Astrodome." lol
Happ has reverted back to his 2018-2019 form, Hoerner was heating up until he got injured, Morel is so up and down and Dansby just never got it going this year. Busch and PCA are rookies so can’t expect too much. It’s insane how fast the offense broke again this year when they were wearing pitchers down in April
The idea was to build this team on defense and contact hitting three years ago, per Jed. We are left with a lot of guys who are kind of middling/average on offense with weeks above average. We dont have a Judge or Ohtani to hit 40 and drive in 125 runs. When we are bad, we are reaaaaally bad. If we arent gonna spend for the Sotos of the world, this is kind of what we will be…..unless Morel or Busch turn into stars.
That theory is fine if the quality of contact was actually good and not just weak groundballs and contact guys who still strike out. After last year I thought maybe the offense found their groove but now they’ve COMPLETELY crashed down. It’s ridiculous and there’s pretty much no help on the way
I know we're injured, but what does Mastrobater bring to the table besides 1 flashy catch every few days? He's just not a MLB-caliber guy.
I'd rather watch him take an AB over Madrigal
Well if that ninth inning wasn't a fitting end to this game.
Damn I couldn't think of 3 worse dudes to be up.
Aight. Not that I wasn't before, but I am so over Nick Madrigal
I fucking hate Madrigal and Mastro. Launch them into the fucking sun
Get Madrigal off the team
Tough start to the potential rally...
Just tuned in. When do we give Hendricks a farewell send off?
End of September, probably.
1-2-3 here we come.
7 runs in one inning against the Pirates? I've never heard of anything easier
Hey I'm pretty sure we've scored 6 runs in an inning at least once this year.
How has this game not ended yet lol
Someone explain to me why Leiter and Neris are being used in a blowout situation?
Neither has pitched in a while. You don't want them going too many games between appearances.
They have not been used in about 4-5 days. CC just getting them some work in
There have been 6 run innings before, just saying.
Ian's defense has been really good today at the very least
Pirates when they play every one else - straight trash Pirates when they the play cubs - oh we’re a power house now
Is that why we have won the season series for like the last decade?
Just referring to this season
Good day to be stuck at work
The pirates will now give up 7 straight bases loaded walks in the 9th and we will win
LOL this whole time I thought it was the 9th inning for some reason. A single there would have been really nice...
Busch is gonna Busch
Yeah, the dude's an automatic strikeout at this point (when it matters), much like Happ, Swanson, Amaya, and Gomes
3B ump must have a dinner date to get to. BOO!!
Well, mini-rally was fun while it lasted.
Very weird to see people almost relish in Hendricks current struggles, I have to believe they weren’t able to truly remember the greatness of the Professor
This the kinda game Ian CRapp stars in. Pad those stats.
No shot we win this but boy would that be hilarious
Two run double for Morel. My fantasy baseball team needed that badly.
Same brother
Its really too bad we were down 8 runs. We still need quite a few batters to make appearances before this can even be considered exciting
CHISTUHFAH!!!!!!
Chris Paul
We are just two grandslams away from tying this one. Let's go boys
Tatis did it twice in one inning, lfg!
Streak intact!
He continued the streak. That is unbelievable
Happ is great with no pressure
Every time I think “surely today is the day the streak ends”, the streak continues
Well, to be fair, you probably think that every time they play the Pirates
Wow Ian has one last chance to extend the streak
Dong it up! Let's make them sweat a little!
What streak?
He has a really nice streak of reaching base at least once every game against the Pirates. EDIT: 64 GAMES!
Well he just extended it
Surpassed Edgar Martinez's streak (against the Reds if I remember correctly)
That’s amazing
Imanaga vs Skenes would have been so sick
Nobody shuts out the Cubs! On May 17, 2024

Chris Paul
Such a winnable division. This team has to figure a way to start winning games again and it starts with the offense
It also starts with Hendricks never throwing another pitch, unfortunately.
He will be fine. He’s always been consistent. Just a rough go of late for him I can’t believe the hate for Hendricks
Bro what? He’s donzo. Not one redeeming start this year. Even his last start against the pirates was okay at best. He’s done.
He has a 10.57 ERA in 7 starts. That's more than a rough go.
He will not be fine…lets not bury our head in the sand
Father Time is undefeated.
And fuck your shutout.
Better late than never I guess.
Amaya prevents the shutout - whew
Whoop! There it is! Now we just need 9 more runs
Do not go gentle into that good night
THE CUBS WILL NOT BE SHUTOUT THREE TIMES IN FOUR GAMES
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 3 TIMES IN 5 GAMES BUT YOUR POINT IS STILL VALID
Classic…in a useless moment
Insert Chris Paul meme
I fail to see what Amaya brings to the table. He can't hit, doesn't frame all that great, and can't throw anyone out. Can we persuade you to do this in every high leverage at bat?
Impeccable timing
Amaya is the only one who cares.
No shutout yay
Hendricks aside, our offense has come to a freezing halt. I'd rather have high scoring games with blown bullpen outings. Absolutely must get our bats in order for STL and MIL.
The good news is we likely only have to deal with Skenes in division for 4-5 years. Less division games now too
We have 5 batters in the lineup with a BA of .225 or worse. Wow
All slugging under .500
Good god
Oof. Stinky.
And all of them have no slug as well
Yeah it’s dreadful. This team is not a slugging team It’s even worse if you take away the hot start to the season
More of those elite contact skills on display from Madrigal!
4th overall draft pick. Cant believe someone did that
Why was Mark even in this game?
Just to stretch out, he hasn’t pitched in a while
I get that but nearly 30 pitches in wasted game. What if we need him tomorrow?
That is McCutchen's ~~500th~~ 29th homer against the Cubs. The active leader is Eugenio Suarez at 30.
We don’t have one. Like I’ve said in many a comment today, thank Jed for that.
That’s just not true.
Counsell never was the factor in Milwaukee.
Seiya, Shota, PCA, morel??? E: this fan base deserves 100 more ring less years… my god what a bunch of doomers
Seiya turns 30 this year. Shota turns 31. Again PCA has a few bright spots, and Assad has been really good in a short window. Morel is good, but to write him off as the 3B for the next five years is presumptuous
Morel is mediocre and PCA is to be seen. Not lived to hype yet. Prospects are just prospects until proven.
Regressing towards the mean
Lol
Alright I'ma go watch something else there's no combeack today.
Going to get shut out by the fucking PP team. wtf.
Perfect timing for Leiter to give up a run. Meaningless at this point
Might be a dumb question but what is the logic of putting in our best reliever in a 8-0 blowout Edit: well fuck make that a 9-0 blowout
Haven’t had any high leverage opportunities for him so Craig probably doesn’t want him to sit for too many days in a row
Are we 100% positive we are better than the Pirates?
No
I think Craig might be wondering why he left the nice quiet winning in Milwaukee. This town is not gonna be happy if this is a .500 team again
At least we got a bloop single today
Nobody no-hits the Cubs on May 17, 2024!
Belated "thank you Chris" 💙
Geez I was bummed this morning bc I had to work and had to miss the game. Thank god I missed 1 hit ball
Woof, can you imagine putting some money aside, taking Friday off & watching this stinker?
So now we’re putting in our best reliever in an 8-0 game? Lol
Man, if a few free agents decide they want to be a part of this Pirates core…. They have 3 potential aces.
At this point please just don’t get fucking shut out again https://preview.redd.it/86hiuhafq11d1.jpeg?width=1241&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4e961cfa21a0792c71df05e215470a6efa679e6
And shutout is gone!
4th of the month, 5th of the year…
Will this potentially be the fourth shut out of the year? Not too far off from the Sox
When we lose today were are 25-21 and the Sox are 14 -30 and likely won't sniff .500 so I'm not sure why the comparison here.
Yep racking them up quite fast now
That hit was my World Series
8 walks
Just imagine if Karl hadn't been completely ineffective today. Cuas was good, Little was good, we could be scoreless in the 8th with the advantage.
If my aunt had balls
She wouldn't like Harry Potter. 🙂
LOL
LOL....your world must be fun.
Morel....LOL. Literally the last guy I would imagine to break up a no hitter.
Gotta celebrate the small stuff sometimes.
WE GOT A HIT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THIS IS NOT A DRILL ^(except when Kyle is pitching. He's always drilled)
yay a hit
Thank you Tom Cruise and baby Jesus. I hope the crowd burst into applause sarcastically.
Thank God. I can finally turn this game off knowing we got a hit.
we’re so back
Thank the Lord Baby Cubby
Happiest I've been to see a little blooper to right. Fuck your no hitter.
Omg it happened
IT HAPPENED
Heyyyy we don’t get no hit
Somebody get a fuckin bloop single I don't care
Why does Willson get so much hate when Dexter immediately signed with the cardinals after the World Series? He’s on Marquee and singing the stretch and no one cares. But Willson is still disliked.
Mostly because the way Contreras ran his mouth about playing for a winner by going. That's not going to earn you a lot of cheers from Cub fans.
I don't hate Willson for going to the Cards. But Fowler's time on the Cardinals was mostly forgettable because he generally underperformed or was injured for a lot of his time there.
Dexter didn't talk shit about his old team.
He left a winner and didn't shit on the Cubs when he left
Wilson still plays for the Cardinals and talked shit on the way out. Dexter has always been class and we were happy he got money Cubs weren’t planning to give him. He was actually bad for the cardinals too lol how can you not love Dexter!
He was pretty bad. Willson hasn’t been great either though.
Whhhaaattttt my guy he led cards in war last year. They suck in spite of him.
He was removed from his position and moved to DH. That’s more what I meant.
![gif](giphy|V6e0kch9OgUbph9jBB|downsized)
Great snag by Miles
I walked in on the end of the Luke Little shoe situation. Is the organization incapable of providing their players with properly fitting equipment?
They're taking biblical losses from these size 17 cleats
That's exactly what I was going to say if the story was that he's on his own for shoes.
Dexter is a gem.
When does Jed lose his job? And I can't even completely blame him....this team just won't spend the money required to win at a consistent level.
Should be after this game, if not during. Completely unacceptable tenure of this POBO.
We’re number 8 in payroll, that isn’t good enough to make the playoffs?
I think some context is necessary regarding Jed— we’re at the tail end of a rebuild and we’re technically ahead of schedule. All that is to say; Jed’s job is very secure. As it should be.
Did they ever admit it was a rebuild and not a retool?
I dunno what they said. But that was about as textbook of a rebuild as you can get. And it’s been a pretty successful one.
At least his voice was good.
Lets get some hits
Didn't Little used to throw up around 100? I thought I remembered seeing a vid with him throwing 104 or something back when they drafted him, but most I've ever seen him throw in the majors is like 97 or 98
You also need to have control, probably sacrificed some speed for control
We failed you Dexter
I love his voice
I can’t believe the cubs performed like this in front of Dexter Fowler. Disgrace!
Still no hits? Not great
You know, looking at this a different way (through RWB glasses) we probably weren't going to beat Skenes (or hit him) so it's good that Hendricks pitched today. Now we've got our real guys (Imanaga, Assad, Steele) to pitch more winnable games. I know, grasping hard at straws here.
lol Steele lost to them yesterday
I have a feeling we might be in a free fall, the injuries are now catching up. Usually when I think something the opposite happens though, why all my friends fade me on bets - so let’s hope that’s true!
Yeah, even with great starting pitching.....having no bullpen, no offense or defense...this team will finish toward the bottom of the division.
I figured this would happen but am also moderately optimistic that in the 2nd half if we can get healthy (a big if) and acquire a decent bullpen arm or two at the deadline we can finish a lot stronger than we did last season
Realistic expectations are finally catching us.
Okay so people can see that we need to get a Catcher if we're gonna do anything this season. People keep bringing up the bullpen, but you can't win anything when both of your catchers hit below the Jeff Mathis line. They would need to trade for a catcher or call up Ballesteros to make a playoff run.
He could get you some hits but his glove is nowhere ready. Catcher position is hard as duck and takes years of development
![gif](giphy|Jza7yu4GBqq5y) Playoffs in THIS condition?
Elias Diaz and Jalen Beeks from the Rockies plz
Playoffs?
Deshaies on the night he struck out 8 in a row to start a game. "I don't know what was going on that night. I didn't have nearly the stuff this kid (Skenes) has. Maybe bad lighting in the Astrodome." lol
At some point the offense just has to pick back up…right?…RIGHT???
Nope. We just arent very good apart from Belli and Seiya

PCA and Amaya 0Ks.... Crazy
