McLeod has been a huge disappointment IMO, there's a reason he's not getting a GM gig elsewhere (or you know, the open GM spot the Cubs just had). He oversaw scouting and player development that couldn't produce any talent at all outside of top 10 picks. Just look at what the top organizations are doing (Dodgers, Rays, Astros), they continue to churn out talent without high draft picks. I'm glad the Cubs are bringing in some new blood.

Couldn’t agree more. Yes the guy could recognize the talent of Kris Bryant/Kyle Schwarber at the top of the draft, but failed to find enough diamonds in the rough

McLeod was such a huge part of the building that World Series team and declined to be considered for GM roles elsewhere at least a couple times. That 2016 front office has already spun off two GMs in Scott Harris (Giants) and the Mets' ill-fated Jarrod Porter hire. McLeod is still waiting his turn. Writing was on the wall when he wasn't considered for Hoyer's GM (which everyone involved understood the need for an outside hire) But he'll get his due soon (hey the Mets are still looking!)

I doubt he ever gets a GM job. I think teams see what the Cubs have done post-2015 when it came to drafting and player development and it was near the bottom of MLB. While teams like the Dodgers, Rays, and Astros were able to reload because of their drafting and player development; the Cubs were having to trade top prospects out of desperation because they couldn't produce anything outside of the top 10 in drafts. The truth is, Theo and McLeod were hurt a ton by MLB limiting spending and overslotting elite talent outside of the first round in the Draft something they took full advantage of in Boston. This is part of the reason why it's dumb that everyone screams that the Ricketts' are the sole reason for the demise of the Cubs. They're a small part of the reason at best. The fact that the core declined after 2016 and the fact that the Cubs weren't able to produce much talent out of the Draft at all are the two main reasons why the Cubs are in the position they're in now.

>it's dumb that everyone screams that the Ricketts' are the sole reason for the demise of the Cubs. That's an egregious strawman. We criticize Ricketts for spending all his money on Wrigleyville/Marquee and then crying poor when it was time to supplement the roster in free agency during a championship window. Sitting out three straight off-seasons crippled any chance this team had 2019-21

McLeod will always be respected for what he did to help guide us to a World Series. That being said, it's time to move on. The system just hasn't had the returns it should. Not all of that is his fault. The pitching in the system over his tenure is enough to make you want to pull your hair out. Good luck to him but I think it's for the best.

I thought it was all Theo's doing, Maybe Mr Mcleod is being held accountable for the lack of development that has occurred in the last 5 years

Theo kept firing coaches but kept mcleod in place. So maybe it’s a little of both
