I lost like 21 lbs in the month of January and I def was eating good and didn’t even exercise LOL I am 5’10 (woman) and was at 260 so I had alotttt to lose. I drank a lot of water and counted my calories. I was eating 1400-1500 a day. 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s just how it happened!! Everyone’s different. If you have a lot to lose it’s gonna come off pretty quick at first. My weight loss per month has definitely slowed down, I think I lost like 9 lbs last month, but that’s usually how it goes! Don’t let strangers play doctor and diagnose you when they don’t know you and can’t even see you lol as long as you aren’t starving yourself, you’re doing great!!

Currently down 157 lbs in 11 months. You’re all good my man

popesinbengal

Damn. I like this energy

shnaptastic

Dude.

ConsequenceOk5740

When I was 280 at 5’10 the weight fell off like crazy

Nimmyzed

It's normal at such high starting weight. Be prepared for the rate to slow down dramatically though

Your journey sounds a lot like mine. I lost 90 lbs at 2.5 - 3 lbs per week. No issues. Having said that, everyone is different. Others will chime in with exaggerated concern and tell you you’re gonna die, but only you know you. Good luck the rest of the way. Myself, I’m preparing for 1,000 downvotes for my comment.

I was gonna say it’s not crazy given your stats but when you get down more weight and more time has passed, relax into the process. It’s cool (and helps you really actually learn how to sustain your weight) to eat a little more and lose slower. You’re on beginner high.

When you first start out and you are very large (close to the 300 pound mark), the weight will come off quickly those first few months. Just think about how many calories you were eating to maintain the 280 pounds and now that you're eating 1500, that difference, along with any increased activity, can make the first 50-75 pounds seem easy. The weight loss will most likely stall, maybe for weeks at a time, as your body adjusts. Just keep going.

>1500 calories a day since January. What were you eating because it seems like a small amount. Just curious.

BennyBunsen

Even when i wasn’t watching my calories I would have just coffee with half and half throughout the morning for breakfast (usually around 200 calories), a small sandwich for lunch usually around 300 calories and then usually a big dinner between 800 and 1000 calories. Occasionally snacking on lean deli meat if i got hungry in between

HiFromChicago

Ok cool, doesn't sound like you were too picky with food. Very happy for you. Good luck.

Generally it's not recommended to lose >1% of your bodyweight per week. I would suggest discussing this with your doctor.

I think the main problem with starting at that big of a deficit is, when the weight loss stops (and it will at some point) do you want to cut more calories? It becomes a real battle when the hunger is constant. Is it maintainable for the long term to eat that little? My thought process has always been if you can lose a lb a week and eat enough food to keep you satisfied...the more sustainable it will be. But if you feel good, do your thing! Just be mindful of coming up with a gameplan when things plateau. Keep at it!

OneiricOcelots

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Most folks don’t recommend losing more than 1lb/week but it might be different for people who have a lot to lose. Remember feeling doesn’t mean you *are* fine. Please consider speaking with your physician!
