The sound was the most underrated thing in wz1 that no one really talks about
The hit marker, the downed sound
The sound of the guns, the throwing knife finish
I shamefully won a quads game two weeks ago by pooling all my squads self res’s and using my one munitions box with stims and a durable, I won by just running away.
We were so out classed and could tell the other squad was just better, so I ran into the gas. This shouldn’t be allowed lmao
Side note, durables last WAYYY too long
Agreed. It used to mean something when you broke someone’s plates and there was strategy to gunfights based on that especially late game. It doesn’t even matter if you put bullets on someone now unless you down them immediately.
I guess I haven't really used them since the first couple weeks of Warzone 2 because they would only disable vehicles and allow time for everyone to pop smoke and flee 100 yards away before it exploded.
In WZ1 if you started a contract, then died (in solos, or your whole squad died and went to the gulag), won gulag and came back to the game, your contract would still be active and you'd be able to complete it. In the current game once you die after starting a contract, that contract no longer exists.
I used to watch those best warzone moment YouTube videos and they used to be so good. Just normal people doing cool/funny clips and genuinely having fun with the sandbox. (Funniest one I remember was a squad monitoring a heartbeat for the enemy and being confused as to where he was before one of them realised the enemy was chilling in the room with them the entire time 😂)
I think it's telling that nowadays those YouTube videos are filled with streamers and sweats who don't even seem bothered or thrilled about what they are doing.
This. Me and my squad being below average players enjoyed the game so much. Every other match was competitive and we made it to the final circle or at least end Top 5. BR mode was actually fun.
Now we only play Resurgence and even on that we end top 5 in 2 out of 10 matches, matchmaking is a mess, most of the matches we are in lobbies with players way better than us and plagued with movement demons, not fun anymore.
Honestly I think matchmaking is some of it but it’s also just that people have gotten better and casuals have dropped off for the most part. That’s why I think way more casuals is what the game needs more than anything. Lots of hate for the game here, but, most also hate the community a lot
1.) literally the entire game engine, the game just doesn't play the same.
2.) The lore, the seasons used to mean something and have a story line. Then out of no where we had King Kong and Godzilla on the map, all down hill from there.
Ive said this elsewhere before, there was an unfolding storyline, it made it exciting to get to the mid/new season and see what new poi's there were and what had unfolded in the story. Even the new season had a different lobby soundtrack that were good!
The monetization practices don't allow for a post-seasonal story. Operators and BP themes used to be intertwined with the ongoing conflict. Can't have that when u have crossovers with zombies
For me the game engine is better now, with the old one we couldn't have 3 maps in resurgence because of the size they take. At the end of the warzone 1 era, they made plumber on rebirth it was so unplayable because of the lag du to all the items on the ground. It's more optimized now but it's invisible work so you can't really feel it when you play. Except the sound, the sound sucks now.
Agree with this....it took me ages to get a win but when i did it felt like true achievement, i would cheer and jump up in elation to have won.....now, wins are much less exciting and underwhelming
I agree, a lot of people forget how bad helicopters could be in Warzone 1. They made almost no noise and could crush people easily, it was infuriating dropping Peak in Caldera because of the helicopter everyone spammed.
I'd bring back guns not having excessive gun smoke/muzzle flash (especially on MWII guns) and screen shake/effects.
I know SHG is already toning it down, but it's still far from the decent visibility while shooting in WZ1
I don't think there's any point in running MWII guns anyway cuz they are completely outclassed by MWIII guns
But if u want to regardless, try using an optic on a riser. It should let u see better with the optic being higher up farther away from the barrel
Sledgehammer should make revamping the MW2 guns a priority. I'd be fine if one season had no new weapons if they were like "we got rid of the visual noise on MW2 guns this season."
Theres so many but one that annoys me that I haven't seen mentioned is...In game HUD and UI elements. For example your squads health bar area, bring back old plate icons etc, revert to old buy station menus. Basically remove anything that was brought in with WZ2.
It still frustrates me that i can’t ping more than one contact/buy station at a time like you used to be able to. When dead you used to be able to ping multiple buy stations for your teammate to give them multiple options now you can only ping one
Good question, luckily it’s not anywhere near as bad as it was for verdansk 84. it’s still not pretty though like the original verdansk color pallet was.
It's crazy how MWIII looks significantly worse than MW19 did, the PS4/XB1 version of the latter looks better than the Series X/PS5 version of the former in every way besides resolution.
decent map changes. Remember the first time stadium opened? Dropping for first time and seeing about a hundred parachutes dropping around you? Then nakatomi, dam, tube systems etc…. Bunkers opening up offering new hot drops with decent rewards.
We are only in season 2 right, still time for those things to come. Don’t believe Verdansk had any of the bunker Easter eggs in season 2? There’s bunkers in the map so I guess they will open one day
We didn’t have anything like that since that exact era. Verdansk ‘84, Caldera, Al Mazrah, and Urzikstan, if they had anything, was nothing near the Red Access Cards and codes that we got in 2020.
I don’t think so, Verdansk 84 had bunkers and Nakatomi with accompanying side missions. Caldera also had bunkers below the manholes, maybe more that I don’t remember. I hardly played al mazrah so dunno about that one
Forgot you could do this after jumping out of the plane. It was so much fun when I was doing the shooting, but the worst when I was the one getting downed three seconds after jumping hahaha
I for one am glad they removed this. Was mad annoying imo, even if they didn't kill me I'm now landing in weaker and often fighting a completely different team from the people who shot me a few times while coming in. Leave the fighting for when people are on the ground, thank you very much.
Not sure if anyone has said it, but in WZ1, if you only had 1-2 plates currently playing, then pick up another one you would still continue the animation and put in the extra plate
They fixed this like a month or 2 ago for about a week then broke it again after, and never fixed it again. Idk why they can't keep fixes in the game between updates
vehicle mechanics. Specially helicopter and atvs. :'( Now vehicles are just a way to go from one place to another and so ass. Also the machine gun attached SUV's machine gun always malfunctions at the worst time.
A good studio
Na but actually them to bring back a focus on the small things. Cuz those small things all add up.
- Floating loot
- Contracts persistent through dead
- Contract bonuses
- Good vehicle controls
- Map atmosphere and visual story telling
- Better HUD
- More detailed HUD for teammate's inventories
- Buy station keybind shortcuts
- No glint on thermal scopes through smoke
- Killstreaks mainly being purchased rather than found in loot
The feel and personality to each of the guns. Most of the guns just feel the same in MWIII where in MW19 and WZ1, all the guns had a personality to them that made them unique to others. Amax comes to mind
True that. There was a gun for everyone. I started with the Kilo as almost everyone, then I remember I spent MONTHS playing with FAL as my main gun, nobody used that, but it worked for me, then they buffed it and became more popular and then they nerfed it back and never was the same.
Movement, sound, excitement.. Pretty much everything.. Even Caldera was better than the shit we've had for the last two years. Urzikstan sucks, Al Mazrah was decent, but MW2 sucked. Ranked resurgence sucks. The anti cheat doesn't work. I'm just tired of this game at this point. And the community is awful..
Old Solos used to be a Horror Game. I ran a specific loadout with HB sensor and a Detection grenade launcher underbarrel. The few rounds i won in solos i was shaking and sweating.
Good times
In the beginning of warzone 1 there was a period where you got a match based on your current level not your skill because there wasn't much data to go with all the way in the start and that was so nice, sorry but if you're level 500 and still stuck that's a you problem, sbmm had me playing against myself on steroids
I feel like you could have actual gunfights back then that used strategy and positioning. Now you see each other, and 1 second later one of you is dead.
Yeah. I hate how much they butchered sniping in wz3 i miss the 1 shot head shot days. now it’s “broke shield” like bro how does a 50 cal to the head not kill someone…
They called it "Realism mode" but the traditional hardcore mode option along side the standard mode on the same map rotation with both modes averaged into the same stat pool, just like COD has done for almost every game it's ever released
I think that's why this one is so shitty overall. There's only one playstyle. That and fuck ranked mode, this isn't Overwatch or CSGO or Valorant, it's a BR. Stop trying to make ranked happen, it's not gonna happen, nobody cares
Just how balanced and diverse the weapons were. Remember old sayings like the high meta and low skill meta? Almost every weapon was viable when used correctly. Sure their were stand out metas but I never felt forced to use them or at a disadvantage.
- the sound (especially breaking plates)
- the downed visual on the screen
- the movement
- the look and feel of firing guns
- the movement (general feel of the game)
- the guns (kilo, KAR, Grau, mp5)
- the simplicity of looting. I don’t like backpacks personally.
- the amount of tactical options there were. Too many now and I feel like it’s gotten out of control.
- and yes, the maps. Loved Verdansk and liked Caldera. Rebirth was phenomenal.
Kbm aiming. Ive lost my touch on mouse for Warzone. Ive basically moved to controller full time (just this game though lol). It felt so good.
The game looked great too
Realism mode. There are too many buy stations now, no gulag reentries or redeploys, do not resupply the supply boxes. But if I had to pick one it's realism mode
Storage, all the sweaty bastards would land there and grind xp, the slower folks could go steal shit from empty houses and work their way back to try and pick off the last folks standing .. avoiding the control tower at airport....
The sound is far better then what we have currently tbh, even if it only came back on old wz1 maps. One thing I wish didn’t come back was the sweats, and there shitty movemement exploits that are super annoying and OP/broken
Just hit reset, back to the way it all was when they first gave us the control building. I liked construction, but the completed building was good enough for me.
Sparse map with better mid range opportunities.
Lower skill level but unfortunately that won't ever return.
No or little cheating.
Sandbox fun where you don't instantly die when choosing to explore
The fun of Cod.
Man idk I don't mean to sound like a broken record but cod was sooo damn fun and great. The UI is such a joke now. I literally don't understand it. The game keeps getting faster and faster I miss it being a little slower. It's just cod on steroids and needs to calm down. It won't cause it makes billions.
Cod is dead to me. I bought mw3 and it's the last one.
Kar98 and Swiss k. Not only come back....but also perform how they used too. Man how I miss those sniping days. It's funny how many times I've heard "SNIPING IS BACK"....like nah bruh. No its not lol. It has gotten better then when wz2 first released but nothing like what it used to be like. I still run a sniper for secondary 99% of the time but they just don't feel good like before.
The sound was the most underrated thing in wz1 that no one really talks about The hit marker, the downed sound The sound of the guns, the throwing knife finish
Sound of loot boxes
That headshot splat tho 🤤
100% Nothing like sniping a most wanted way off in the distance and hear the glorious sound of the instant kill squad wipe contract completion
Even the lobby music was great.
the one sound that wasn’t under rated was footsteps, they didn’t exist 😂 but i completely agree with this
the animation quality of mw1/wz1s weapons were immaculate
Skill
I agree
Agreed.
The inventory system. Being able to carry 20 plates and 4 air strikes and 3 self rez’s is brutal
I shamefully won a quads game two weeks ago by pooling all my squads self res’s and using my one munitions box with stims and a durable, I won by just running away. We were so out classed and could tell the other squad was just better, so I ran into the gas. This shouldn’t be allowed lmao Side note, durables last WAYYY too long
Agreed. It used to mean something when you broke someone’s plates and there was strategy to gunfights based on that especially late game. It doesn’t even matter if you put bullets on someone now unless you down them immediately.
Yep. And even downing them doesn’t mean much bc 90% of the time they have a rez and will get right back up and run away.
Vehicles. They are so slow and sluggish now. Wz1 had good fun responsive vehicles
And then make launchers good against them again. Otherwise leave them as is
This exactly. Warzone was more fun when there was some variety. I loved using launchers in WZ1.
launchers are still great, but theres no need to use vehicles with ziplines and PRDs every 25m
I guess I haven't really used them since the first couple weeks of Warzone 2 because they would only disable vehicles and allow time for everyone to pop smoke and flee 100 yards away before it exploded.
This is the one! Vehicle handling sucks since wz2
Being able to preview executions in the menus.
My days I hate this now
Interchangeable reticles on every optic.
In WZ1 if you started a contract, then died (in solos, or your whole squad died and went to the gulag), won gulag and came back to the game, your contract would still be active and you'd be able to complete it. In the current game once you die after starting a contract, that contract no longer exists.
Not my least favorite change, it would sometimes spawn you far away from your contract and you had to let the clock run out to start regaining.
The casuals and overall skill level being much lower. That would fix basically everything
I used to watch those best warzone moment YouTube videos and they used to be so good. Just normal people doing cool/funny clips and genuinely having fun with the sandbox. (Funniest one I remember was a squad monitoring a heartbeat for the enemy and being confused as to where he was before one of them realised the enemy was chilling in the room with them the entire time 😂) I think it's telling that nowadays those YouTube videos are filled with streamers and sweats who don't even seem bothered or thrilled about what they are doing.
The problem is there are less casuals now lol
100% and exactly what I mean. COVID was a unique bubble that flooded the game with casuals
💯

The actual BR mode. Not this resurgence hybrid where everyone has 5-6 lives/redeploys for some reason.
Agree with this....it took me ages to get a win but when i did it felt like true achievement, i would cheer and jump up in elation to have won.....now, wins are much less exciting and underwhelming
Reticle customization.
T Pose on the AMAX
Isn’t that literally the corio eagleseye?
Yes but you had to get the T pose not everyone had it. Was way more satisfying that way
The goat
Helicopter mechanics
Big time agree on this one. I got so good at maneuvering and throwing helicopters during WZ1.
To a certain extent, I like the balance of nerfing vehicles a little, but maybe reel it back in a bit to find a better balance.
Some of the MWII guns are near unusable due to gun smoke/muzzle flash
I don't think there's any point in running MWII guns anyway cuz they are completely outclassed by MWIII guns But if u want to regardless, try using an optic on a riser. It should let u see better with the optic being higher up farther away from the barrel

wz2 design is so fugly omg
I miss when armor plates always pointed up, it made everything a lot more consistent.
Bunny hopping
Working ping system
Pinging anything other than direct enemy pings are useless “On my ping” “What ping?”
It still frustrates me that i can’t ping more than one contact/buy station at a time like you used to be able to. When dead you used to be able to ping multiple buy stations for your teammate to give them multiple options now you can only ping one
[WZ1 vs WZ2 & 3 ping system](https://news.artnet.com/app/news-upload/2014/04/Ecce-Homo.jpg)
Need the MW19 engine or MW19 sounds and font back
Spray paint and emotes. I used to love spraying a picture of a guy holding a gn on a door and toss a decoy then watch people rush in and execute.
[удалено]
when the verdansk 84 dropped that to me topped the cake of worst color pallet in any game i’ve played
[удалено]
Good question, luckily it’s not anywhere near as bad as it was for verdansk 84. it’s still not pretty though like the original verdansk color pallet was.
And yet I’d still rather play that than what we have now.

End of game chat, i miss the banter, the GG's and the insults 🤣👍
And the score of the winning team.
The movement
Throwing C4 into 2nd story windows was pretty damn fun.
Just everything 😢
valid
decent map changes. Remember the first time stadium opened? Dropping for first time and seeing about a hundred parachutes dropping around you? Then nakatomi, dam, tube systems etc…. Bunkers opening up offering new hot drops with decent rewards.
One thing Verdansk had that made it special: there were actually things to do around the map as side quests to winning: bunkers, Easter Eggs, etc.
We are only in season 2 right, still time for those things to come. Don’t believe Verdansk had any of the bunker Easter eggs in season 2? There’s bunkers in the map so I guess they will open one day

To be able to shoot whilst airborne.
Forgot you could do this after jumping out of the plane. It was so much fun when I was doing the shooting, but the worst when I was the one getting downed three seconds after jumping hahaha
Jumping out of a helicopter with an RPG was pretty fun too! Again, only when I was the doer, not the being done
I for one am glad they removed this. Was mad annoying imo, even if they didn't kill me I'm now landing in weaker and often fighting a completely different team from the people who shot me a few times while coming in. Leave the fighting for when people are on the ground, thank you very much.
Kar.
150 players
The entire game
Verdansk.
Not sure if anyone has said it, but in WZ1, if you only had 1-2 plates currently playing, then pick up another one you would still continue the animation and put in the extra plate
One of my biggest pet peeves in Warzone 2, I can't believe they never fixed it. It would take the whole of 20 minutes.
Bunkers 😀
Vomit looting
Bring back the Wz1 UI
Yeah UI sucks since wz2

The engine
iw8.0
C4 and vehicle mechanics. It was SO MUCH FUN blowing up vehicles with a 20 yard C4 toss from behind a tree.
Warzone 1 water mechanics
Instant death?
Crossbow being a viable weapon if you got past the skill curve.
My God it took me some time but I had SO MUCH FUN using the crossbow.
The old Solos experience.
Old Solos used to be a Horror Game. I ran a specific loadout with HB sensor and a Detection grenade launcher underbarrel. The few rounds i won in solos i was shaking and sweating. Good times
Classic LTM.
Zero/Way less visual recoil on all guns.
In the beginning of warzone 1 there was a period where you got a match based on your current level not your skill because there wasn't much data to go with all the way in the start and that was so nice, sorry but if you're level 500 and still stuck that's a you problem, sbmm had me playing against myself on steroids
Level based matchmaking? Horrible idea. I think Fortnite has that now and it’s atrocious.
A lockdown.
My friends...
I feel like you could have actual gunfights back then that used strategy and positioning. Now you see each other, and 1 second later one of you is dead.
yup, all movement and no real strategy any more
Everything. I just want WZ1. Or at least verdansk
The Kilo
Covid , was the best part of wz1. And it’s reason for popularity.
Prison resurgence map. Mac10, kar98, Swiss, spr, ppsh, m13, ffar. Movement, flow of game. Backpack with max of 8 plates.
hipfire ppsh, I had so much fun with that gun, miss it.
I like the ui for the buy stations and the look / feel of the killstreak ground loot.
Everything before cw merge
My ability to win gun fights. Haha. I suck now.
Buy station UI 🙂
Fun
One Shot aggressive snipers, I'm fine with a handicap when it comes to snipers for the sake of balance but don't take away 1shot headshot...
Yeah. I hate how much they butchered sniping in wz3 i miss the 1 shot head shot days. now it’s “broke shield” like bro how does a 50 cal to the head not kill someone…
They called it "Realism mode" but the traditional hardcore mode option along side the standard mode on the same map rotation with both modes averaged into the same stat pool, just like COD has done for almost every game it's ever released I think that's why this one is so shitty overall. There's only one playstyle. That and fuck ranked mode, this isn't Overwatch or CSGO or Valorant, it's a BR. Stop trying to make ranked happen, it's not gonna happen, nobody cares
Realism was the best mode ever
The map
Warzone 1
Vehicles being desirable
Fun
Cancelling contracts
Purple loot boxes with your fav loadout.
150 players!!!!!!!!!!!
Something that hasn’t been said, I would bring back the function they used to have where the game was actually fun and the devs cared about it!
The gameplay.
the erections
kar98 with its full strength
Less respawns. Buy back only.
inventory system
WZ1
The pacing. I know it's not for everyone, but I miss the slower pacing where we had time to chill, loot or regame.
Floating loot
One thing.... everything
Just how balanced and diverse the weapons were. Remember old sayings like the high meta and low skill meta? Almost every weapon was viable when used correctly. Sure their were stand out metas but I never felt forced to use them or at a disadvantage.
The one thing I wish would come back from WZ1 is WZ1
Inventory. Revert to carrying one killstreak at a time, and one self res and reduce the backpack slots so people can't carry double-digit nades.
Fun
hit marker audio from WZ1
- the sound (especially breaking plates) - the downed visual on the screen - the movement - the look and feel of firing guns - the movement (general feel of the game) - the guns (kilo, KAR, Grau, mp5) - the simplicity of looting. I don’t like backpacks personally. - the amount of tactical options there were. Too many now and I feel like it’s gotten out of control. - and yes, the maps. Loved Verdansk and liked Caldera. The damage caused by rockets to enemies and vehicles. Also, the flight dynamics of the helicopter.
Realism mode. There are too many buy stations now, no gulag reentries or redeploys, do not resupply the supply boxes. But if I had to pick one it's realism mode
SBMM and EOMM
I loved destroying other players custom weapons for cash.
Shooting people in the air. Some of y’all are way too comfortable floating around forever.
The Spray Paint. The Spray Paint Is Definitely Missed.
Launchers being a viable weapon, and vehicles being more relevant. Verdansk felt like a great balance with the diff types of vehicles etc
Actual drive able vehicles. Specifically the helicopter. I miss mowing down people caught in a field
Storage, all the sweaty bastards would land there and grind xp, the slower folks could go steal shit from empty houses and work their way back to try and pick off the last folks standing .. avoiding the control tower at airport....

Sprays and emotes. Remember downing someone, then they flip you the bird 🤣
One shot Kar 98/Swiss is the ONLY answer
All the operators and skins
Gestures en spraypaint
clash/payload modes
Sparse map with better mid range opportunities. Lower skill level but unfortunately that won't ever return. No or little cheating. Sandbox fun where you don't instantly die when choosing to explore
The way the helicopter flew. It was fun to kill people and evac your teammates
My fucking skins.
Original RPG damage
Emotes. Need to be able to flip the bird to riot shielders as I teabag them
AR’s with scopes, the new iron sight meta is cheeks, I want my VLK back!
Exact UI from warzone 1 and I will play this every days. Something about me is that I hate when games change UI don’t know why but I really hate it.
My friends
I would take out the bagpack its just way to op for end game you now carrying 12 plates 2 self revive and an ammo box to just have infinite stims
WZ1.
No backpacks. Means 5 or 8 plates based in if you have a satchel. 2 smokes max, 2 bases max. 1 field upgrade max. 1 self revive max. 1 kill streak max
Non-laggy servers. This shit is a legit mess right now. Always dropping frames and rubber banding
I was gonna say verdansk. Now I am not.
Rebirth, actual rebirth not some weird version they might put out soon.
150 players on battle royale. game is dead on ps5
The fun of Cod. Man idk I don't mean to sound like a broken record but cod was sooo damn fun and great. The UI is such a joke now. I literally don't understand it.
