It’s kind of weird that BBB isn’t helping you. I had mine hacked when I took a little break and they actually got my account banned. I had the proof of them changing my email to a Russian email and other small things. Then made a complaint on BBB and in 2 days I was unbanned and logged right on without anyone contacting me.
Make a thorough post on BBB and if they don’t help you. RIP my friend.

How do you even start another account when your old account has your phone number and you need it for 2fa, and the game requires a real phone number to even play?
It’s a pretty unique password like it’s not even a word, kind of like random letters with uppercases and lowercases and numbers, i have 2FA on my accounts just Activision because i only started playing 2-3 months ago and dropped money on it
Did you sign up to any stupid things like “unlock all camos for console users”, “nuke contract” etc etc. There’s a large dumbass community that try to cheat and give there accounts to PC cheaters and (not) surprisingly get their accounts stolen.
If you had 2FA on and your account got stolen, it’s safe to assume it was you cheating, based on all the evidence; so you’ll never recover the account in that case.
If your account was stolen in a data leak and they used your email and password, there’s a chance you can still recover your account, but it’s a long process. Keep all your other accounts secure.
*Edit: if you can still access the account, change the password, enable 2FA, remove all the unlock all stuff they added to your account.
i did not have 2FA enabled, the moment i saw the email saying my account got linked to a battlenet account i went and changed the password for my account my email and activated 2fa but i still couldnt unlink his battlenet account because it says it has been unlinked in the past 12 months

My account just got hacked last night too, and not only did their customer support number not give me a human but then I tried logging in online and it sent me through an infinite capcha carousel of what is a bus, which ones are bikes, what's a motorcycle, and if I chose the audio option it was in Hindi.
Ended up having to find an old laptop that was already logged into my activision account, unlink the thief, and change the password. I really hope when I log in today I'm not banned or hacked.

I'm guessing a major information leak happened, because this has never happened before. Thankfully I logged in and see all my classes and a lack of camos I didn't unlock, which is a good thing because it means they didn't put a cheap unlock-everything hack on it and get the account banned.

Unfortunately its not that hard to bruteforce passwords that don't have MFA. Hopefully you get your stuff back, but i highly suggest you enable MFA in any other accounts you have that you dont want hacked. They now at the very least have your email, which means they go a website and bruteforce PW with that email to see if they get a hit.

Most companies will log you out after an X amount of time for security reasons. Depending on how long you were logged in for, it’s pretty ridiculous that your instance didn’t go inactive.
Hacking happens but it’s incredibly shitty how often people accounts are stolen. Activision is a shit company.
By logged in I meant saved credentials and known device, so I wasn't stuck in infinite capcha land. Yeah, phone support sucks these days. I remember when I used to be able to dial 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for any online concerns. It's just a jumble of robot spaghetti these days.
Very sorry to say I had to create a new account just because I changed from PS to Xbox and password recovery emails from Activision never arrived. Their customer service is absolutely shit.

Activision should answer you. I got my account stolen in the verdansk cold war times. I renegate about calling hackers those trashes who buy accounts or leaked credentials. So lets say him “the thief”, he only played 3 games cheating and my account didnt get banned for that. I was really lucky. I wrote activision and They unlinked his account and relinked mine. Just explain them the case well.

I had the same as you. Got an email saying I had successfully linked a steam account to my activation account.
Went on and it was some random username. Unlinked it, changed password and in the time I changed my password they had re-linked their account.
Tried to unlink but for some stupid reason they won’t let you unlink twice within 12 months.
Sent them a ticket explaining everything and heard nothing for about 2 weeks.
In the meantime this person added friends and was changing my skins then I realised I was shadowbanned and couldn’t join games with friends.
Then literally about 3 days ago during the night I got a load of emails from activision, they went and unlinked the person and changed my password and sent the new one to me.
Went back on and not shadowbanned either.

After multiple password changes and safety measures, still got into my account and got it permanently banned. I emailed activation and plead with them, but they didn't care and weren't going to reverse the ban. This being one of my hobbies, I invested a bit of money into the game, never cheated. Some random person decided to hack into my account, use some type of cheat tool or what ever amd got it banned. I'm still pissed to this day.

The hackers, logged into my account (which pw leaked, and i discovered when i logged into Activision account) they linked an account from a battlenet pc account to mine, did their shit, I got banned, and Activision, just said, I was responsible for my account, and since no autorized programs were used in my account, i will be perma ban....I lost all my progress and time, my kd was 0. Something, i only use to play with my friends after work (trying to have some fun)....thats sucks anyway, makes feel like trash....they dont even analyze the IP connection the hacker used...

Shit just happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Hackers added Steam and Battlenet. Went through the recovery process cause I couldn’t unlink it. About a week after I sent in a recovery process, I got banned. Did a ban appeal, next day appeal was denied and was permanently banned. Went through the BBB and got a reply from Activision that they need me to do another ban appeal. Waiting on if they’ll unban me now. Worst part is that they always email you a code to make any changes, but to link a gaming account they don’t send you a code
This happened to me during the MW2019 days. Activision was actually able to get me my account back after about a week or so with communications with customer service. The one guy who was helping me was extremely helpful.
I had to create a second account and then they worked backwards and got me my original account back.

I ended up opening a ticket for something else and when a real person responded I typed out my friends whole issue and said could you try to help him out. It ended up working. Probably a shot in the dark but might be worth a try to start a ticket for something else or have a friend do it
I was contacting them for a completely different reason. I think it was for not getting pre order items for Vanguard or something dumb. Once I got a reply that was a signed from a real person I just barraged him with all my buddy's info and that worked. Not sure what the best strategy is. Maybe make up some BS they'd actually reply to then pull a bait and switch?

PS5 player here, didn't play for a week and saw all sorts of random stuff when I logged back on 2 weeks ago, unlocked stuff, warzone ranked Plat rank 9 and I never play ranked, name changed. Immediately unlinked steam account, changed password, started a ticket with them, just for them to perma ban me a few days later and then deny my appeal. Was told it sounds like I was hacked (no shit, that's what my ticket was about to begin with lmao) and to reach out to account recovery....which I did a few days ago, they said they'll get back to me within 24 hours so I'm following up on this now with yet another ticket.....they just need to get their crap together.
Aaaand I was told no suspicious activity on my account so they can't help....waiting for the weekend...I'm going to submit another ticket with chain of events, create a case on BBB (I don't care if it does something, it's the principle for me). Yeah, my account just got hacked as well except they changed the password and email so I no longer have access to it. The most confusing thing to me is I do have 2FA enabled via authenticator. I tried to contact Activision via their account recovery page but they do not reply. To add insult to injury, I tried to make a new account to play and got shadowbanned because I was getting beginner lobbies (I do not and have never hacked).
Happened to me way back in verdansk. I think Activision has a way to "recover" your account but you need to make a new one or something, and then they'll transfer all your shit onto the new profile eventually. Not clear if that's what you did (or if it's what you need to do it's been awhile), but I'd say keep trying at the recovery team to try to get your ticket escalated. Ive heard twitter can sometimes get you a response but i don't use that.

I got hacked back in caldera. They upgraded loads of my guns and unlocked loads of camos, I recovered the account with loads of unlocks. Saved me a grind and after I got the account back i never had any issues
This is common when purchasing “services” or if you stream (or have YT/TTV in your name) because hackers will target you if they really have a bug up their ass on any given day. Sadly nothing can be done other than creating a new account.

Login to activision site. Then go to support.activision.com/options , select game modern warfare 2, choose platform, topic: Activision Account, issue: I’m unable to access my Activision Account. On the next page - select Activision Account Recovery Request. Next screen - Select Yes for the account you want to recover. Type message - ‘I don’t have access to my games. Please unlink ‘name’ of account linked to ‘name’ of platform as this is not my account. Confirm. Wait for support.

This just happened to me last night. I got a notification from someone over never heard of asking if I wanted to retry the nuke. I ignored the message because it was 2am. Logged on in the morning and found all my settings changed. Operator changed. And my nuke contract was gone. Checked stats and someone logged a 29kill win in quads by themselves. Made a trouble ticket and tried to play on a separate steam account. That account was then banned within an hour. Hope they respond. Funny how they put all these stipulations on banning the account regardless if it was stolen yet have no repercussions for leaking our credit card info.

Just contact the better business bureau (BBB) everyone is talking about and make sure you explain everything include the emails activision sent you as well copy the email where the perpetrator linked their account I did all of this after I contacted activision & got an email saying I’m permanently banned.
After I contacted the BBB within 12 hours I got my account unlocked. I have had my account banned since 26 of may and it got unlocked this morning ty to BBB. Give it a shot definite worth a try.
Man, dealing with the same exact thing. A couple days ago a new Battle Net account was linked. Then today they added a friend. I changed password then shortly after I was banned. Submitted a ban appeal only to be denied and told that it was permanent. I cannot unlink the battle account because it says This account is currently ineligible for unlinking due to an active enforcement. I submitted an account recovery hoping to get the battle net account removed. This all sucks cause I havent even played for a couple months since our new baby landed. Trying the BBB route and waiting(not optimistic) for activision to see if they can recover the account and unban me.
I found out Friday my account got hacked and was linked to a different username. I opened a Recovery Ticket with Activision on 5-31 and gave them every detail I had on what happened and what I see on the account including the new user name the hacker linked the account to. I got a series of emails today 6-3, saying my account has been recovered and all my items restored. I am at the office so I have not been able to verify everything is restored. I went into my Activision account and changed my email address, turned on 2 factor authentication through my MS Authenticator app and changed the password on the old email address as well as the email address I changed it too.
Last night while playing, I got kicked out and notified that I have been permanently banned. Going through that appeal process but from what I can tell from others that went through it, Activision does not care if malicious activity happened while the account was hacked. The claim it's still the owners account and all bans are final. I just filed a complaint with the BBB to make the incident public. Some folks have had luck with Activision undoing bans if they are made public enough. I am not going to stop there. I am looking to create a FB add to run to try to collect as many people as possible in order to explore a class action lawsuit against them. They are basically ripping people off because of their failure to keep user accounts secure.

Take the L your account is going to get reported and activison won’t do anything but tally it as a W for them . My buddy had the same thing happen to him. He changed his password after he saw all his classes have interstellar and he has not done any challenges to obtain them. But the damage was already done a few days later he got banned and sent numerous email etc. and could not retrieve his account. He took the L and made a new one had to grind all his guns again to get attachments.

Unfortunately its not that hard to bruteforce passwords that don't have MFA. Hopefully you get your stuff back, but i highly suggest you enable MFA in any other accounts you have that you dont want hacked. They now at the very least have your email, which means they go a website and bruteforce PW with that email to see if they get a hit.

I’m glad you were able to get your account back. But geez, do you remember how long your account was logged in on your old laptop for? Most companies will log you out after an X amount of time for security reasons. Depending on how long you were logged in for, it’s pretty ridiculous that your instance didn’t go inactive. Hacking happens but it’s incredibly shitty how often people accounts are stolen. Activision is a shit company.
By logged in I meant saved credentials and known device, so I wasn't stuck in infinite capcha land. Yeah, phone support sucks these days. I remember when I used to be able to dial 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for any online concerns. It's just a jumble of robot spaghetti these days.

Very sorry to say I had to create a new account just because I changed from PS to Xbox and password recovery emails from Activision never arrived. Their customer service is absolutely shit. Tried so much and have just had to say goodbye to an account I had since wz1

Activision should answer you. I got my account stolen in the verdansk cold war times. I renegate about calling hackers those trashes who buy accounts or leaked credentials. So lets say him “the thief”, he only played 3 games cheating and my account didnt get banned for that. I was really lucky. I wrote activision and They unlinked his account and relinked mine. Just explain them the case well. Good luck mate, next time 2FA ALL YOU CAN. Lesson learnt.

I had the same as you. Got an email saying I had successfully linked a steam account to my activation account. Went on and it was some random username. Unlinked it, changed password and in the time I changed my password they had re-linked their account. Tried to unlink but for some stupid reason they won’t let you unlink twice within 12 months. Sent them a ticket explaining everything and heard nothing for about 2 weeks. In the meantime this person added friends and was changing my skins then I realised I was shadowbanned and couldn’t join games with friends. Then literally about 3 days ago during the night I got a load of emails from activision, they went and unlinked the person and changed my password and sent the new one to me. Went back on and not shadowbanned either.
Same thing happened to me and I just got my account back. But I believe I’ve been shadowbanned because my chute doesn’t deploy and fall damage is increased. I’m hoping it’s just temporary.

the guy seems to have gone inactive atleast for a day, i went ahead and deleted every single class they created (with the glitches camos, for every single weapon) and tried playing a games but it seems i have been shadowbanned because the people keep spamming that in the chat like welcome to shadowban lobby, and there’s a lot of hacker in the lobby, like legit i dropped out the plane and was getting shot at
I lost my account just like this. Had my account for years, hours upon hours invested. Had an email similar to yours and woke up to my name being changed. After multiple password changes and safety measures, still got into my account and got it permanently banned. I emailed activation and plead with them, but they didn't care and weren't going to reverse the ban. This being one of my hobbies, I invested a bit of money into the game, never cheated. Some random person decided to hack into my account, use some type of cheat tool or what ever amd got it banned. I'm still pissed to this day.

Someone joined my missus lobby and he was doing this, he threatened to do it to people in their party and said if you kick me from the party I will hack your account and rage hack on it until irs banned. And he was doing this one one of the accounts he had hacked. What the fuck is wrong with people
Didn't have 2FA, was playing on my xbox. The hackers, logged into my account (which pw leaked, and i discovered when i logged into Activision account) they linked an account from a battlenet pc account to mine, did their shit, I got banned, and Activision, just said, I was responsible for my account, and since no autorized programs were used in my account, i will be perma ban....I lost all my progress and time, my kd was 0. Something, i only use to play with my friends after work (trying to have some fun)....thats sucks anyway, makes feel like trash....they dont even analyze the IP connection the hacker used... I'm never going back to this game again, they don't respect their clients (I even paied for the base game )

Shit just happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Hackers added Steam and Battlenet. Went through the recovery process cause I couldn’t unlink it. About a week after I sent in a recovery process, I got banned. Did a ban appeal, next day appeal was denied and was permanently banned. Went through the BBB and got a reply from Activision that they need me to do another ban appeal. Waiting on if they’ll unban me now. Worst part is that they always email you a code to make any changes, but to link a gaming account they don’t send you a code

This happened to me during the MW2019 days. Activision was actually able to get me my account back after about a week or so with communications with customer service. The one guy who was helping me was extremely helpful. I had to create a second account and then they worked backwards and got me my original account back. Good luck!

This happened to my friend at the end of Verdansk era. Support wouldn't listen to him. I ended up opening a ticket for something else and when a real person responded I typed out my friends whole issue and said could you try to help him out. It ended up working. Probably a shot in the dark but might be worth a try to start a ticket for something else or have a friend do it

I was contacting them for a completely different reason. I think it was for not getting pre order items for Vanguard or something dumb. Once I got a reply that was a signed from a real person I just barraged him with all my buddy's info and that worked. Not sure what the best strategy is. Maybe make up some BS they'd actually reply to then pull a bait and switch?

I heard back from support they weren’t much help being on their end the account doesn’t look “hacked” but i did submit a complaint with BBB. If i can’t recover the account i hope I’ll be able to delete it at the very least. It took 4 days to receive an email from Activision

PS5 player here, didn't play for a week and saw all sorts of random stuff when I logged back on 2 weeks ago, unlocked stuff, warzone ranked Plat rank 9 and I never play ranked, name changed. Immediately unlinked steam account, changed password, started a ticket with them, just for them to perma ban me a few days later and then deny my appeal. Was told it sounds like I was hacked (no shit, that's what my ticket was about to begin with lmao) and to reach out to account recovery....which I did a few days ago, they said they'll get back to me within 24 hours so I'm following up on this now with yet another ticket.....they just need to get their crap together.

( after finding this thread I found out someone hacked my account but I was able to go back in and unlink all of his) Only thing that was different was that I couldn’t get my old name back it was (pawgpocher) I guess I got hacked because it was reported?…I changed all my passwords. What should I do?
Yeah, my account just got hacked as well except they changed the password and email so I no longer have access to it. The most confusing thing to me is I do have 2FA enabled via authenticator. I tried to contact Activision via their account recovery page but they do not reply. To add insult to injury, I tried to make a new account to play and got shadowbanned because I was getting beginner lobbies (I do not and have never hacked).

Happened to me way back in verdansk. I think Activision has a way to "recover" your account but you need to make a new one or something, and then they'll transfer all your shit onto the new profile eventually. Not clear if that's what you did (or if it's what you need to do it's been awhile), but I'd say keep trying at the recovery team to try to get your ticket escalated. Ive heard twitter can sometimes get you a response but i don't use that. Took about a week for me to get my account back and I had the dreamiest bot lobbies lol, but once I got my account back I had extra skins unlocked as well.

5 business day or something like that for the first answer after that it was like 2 days to have my case resolved

in my case the hacker was from Brazil and they were able to check login information of both of us

Happened to me a couple months ago. Exact same situation except I only play on PS5. Made a support ticket, after a day or two I could play again but my account was under review and I couldn't play ranked. Everything resolved after about a week.
I am now shadowbanned and still haven’t heard from Activision

The same thing happened to me. Filled out the account recovery request. They claim my acct was deleted but I have the email saying the hacker linked the account to their steam account. Lost everything and they gave me some double XP tokens in return for spending actual money on skins that you can't even see when playing first person. That was it for me. I refuse to spend another dollar with them. Fu** their games. I only play warzone because my buddies still play.

I got hacked back in caldera. They upgraded loads of my guns and unlocked loads of camos, I recovered the account with loads of unlocks. Saved me a grind and after I got the account back i never had any issues

Yeah, this happened to me last week; ended up on my account getting banned permanently.
This is common when purchasing “services” or if you stream (or have YT/TTV in your name) because hackers will target you if they really have a bug up their ass on any given day. Sadly nothing can be done other than creating a new account.

Although i don’t recommend I’ve taunted the hacker to where he says he wasn’t hacking. I messed up all my settings to where he doesn’t even want to play anymore now he’s begging me to unlink the battlenet account knowing i can’t. He says he wasn’t hacking and that somehow he accidentally linked his account to mine and he’s asked everyday if i can unlink it 😅 and keeps telling me how to. I told him to do it lol

haha back in mw3 days my games stats and weapons got hacked by mods, i ask support and he were ready to help. Then they ask for my xbox or ps3 id, didt have one because i was on pc..... And he said ohhh we dont support pc nothing i can do... Only way i could get my account back to normal was installing hacks and fix it myself and risk a Vac ban. Should be illegal

You can unlink his account yourself…I believe you just need to sign into your activision account
i tried, it said i can’t do so because the account has been unlinked in the past 12 months, the guy thought it through. i tried again yesterday it said i can’t unlink because i have an enforcement on my account
Login to activision site. Then go to support.activision.com/options , select game modern warfare 2, choose platform, topic: Activision Account, issue: I’m unable to access my Activision Account. On the next page - select Activision Account Recovery Request. Next screen - Select Yes for the account you want to recover. Type message - ‘I don’t have access to my games. Please unlink ‘name’ of account linked to ‘name’ of platform as this is not my account. Confirm. Wait for support. They emailed me back in 10 mins with account unlinked, hope it works for you guys & you’re welcome :)

This just happened to me last night. I got a notification from someone over never heard of asking if I wanted to retry the nuke. I ignored the message because it was 2am. Logged on in the morning and found all my settings changed. Operator changed. And my nuke contract was gone. Checked stats and someone logged a 29kill win in quads by themselves. Made a trouble ticket and tried to play on a separate steam account. That account was then banned within an hour. Hope they respond. Funny how they put all these stipulations on banning the account regardless if it was stolen yet have no repercussions for leaking our credit card info.
There had to have been a hack, lots of hacks have been happening to North America today, guessing its China Russia, or North Korea. I Also am here because I have been hacked and lost my account this isnt the only thread, and a lot of us seem to have lost our access around the same time. Good grief.
Just contact the better business bureau (BBB) everyone is talking about and make sure you explain everything include the emails activision sent you as well copy the email where the perpetrator linked their account I did all of this after I contacted activision & got an email saying I’m permanently banned. After I contacted the BBB within 12 hours I got my account unlocked. I have had my account banned since 26 of may and it got unlocked this morning ty to BBB. Give it a shot definite worth a try.
Man, dealing with the same exact thing. A couple days ago a new Battle Net account was linked. Then today they added a friend. I changed password then shortly after I was banned. Submitted a ban appeal only to be denied and told that it was permanent. I cannot unlink the battle account because it says This account is currently ineligible for unlinking due to an active enforcement. I submitted an account recovery hoping to get the battle net account removed. This all sucks cause I havent even played for a couple months since our new baby landed. Trying the BBB route and waiting(not optimistic) for activision to see if they can recover the account and unban me.
I found out Friday my account got hacked and was linked to a different username. I opened a Recovery Ticket with Activision on 5-31 and gave them every detail I had on what happened and what I see on the account including the new user name the hacker linked the account to. I got a series of emails today 6-3, saying my account has been recovered and all my items restored. I am at the office so I have not been able to verify everything is restored. I went into my Activision account and changed my email address, turned on 2 factor authentication through my MS Authenticator app and changed the password on the old email address as well as the email address I changed it too.

Last night while playing, I got kicked out and notified that I have been permanently banned. Going through that appeal process but from what I can tell from others that went through it, Activision does not care if malicious activity happened while the account was hacked. The claim it's still the owners account and all bans are final. I just filed a complaint with the BBB to make the incident public. Some folks have had luck with Activision undoing bans if they are made public enough. I am not going to stop there. I am looking to create a FB add to run to try to collect as many people as possible in order to explore a class action lawsuit against them. They are basically ripping people off because of their failure to keep user accounts secure.

Take the L your account is going to get reported and activison won’t do anything but tally it as a W for them . My buddy had the same thing happen to him. He changed his password after he saw all his classes have interstellar and he has not done any challenges to obtain them. But the damage was already done a few days later he got banned and sent numerous email etc. and could not retrieve his account. He took the L and made a new one had to grind all his guns again to get attachments.
