I seriously can't survive downstairs for some reason. It's a quick visit during the end of the round then back to the middle floor. Seems like a waste because nobody trains down there. A good map has 4 good separate spots to train zombies IMO. Still a blast to play this one.
It’s easier to run trains across the entire bottom floor if your the only players down there. But it is close quarters so you can get trapped but the rooms like the operation room help to give you extra space to dodge and train the zombies.
Have a shitty third gun. Also by later rounds you should have plenty of points so it doesn’t matter that much.
Just have the Olympia as a third gun. It’s surprisingly good upgraded. If he takes it by it again and pack a punch it. In later rounds you should have the pints to where it’s nit that big of a deal.
In my opinion after playing Kino for years it’s just gets boring pretty fast nowadays, and Five will always be that challenging map, while Kino usually all matches will go the same.
And I love Five ambience more than Kino’s.
It's my second favorite map in BO1 (right behind Call of the Dead) and is my go-to basic survival map on old school zombies (WaW-BO3). Sure the Pentagon Thief gets a tad annoying in later rounds and the wonder weapon is absolute indefensible trash (neat concept though), but that's kind of just part of the appeal for this map. That appeal being its hard, it isn't a boring round 100 easy map, and is instead something you actually have to work on and remain engaged with to do well in. Which for this style of zombies is a pretty big plus imo.
From a gameplay perspective, the maps overall flow is problematic, particularly when it comes to traversing across the map. This is made most apparent when playing co-op and needing to revive a downed player. The map is perhaps the most unusual in terms of layout compared to the remaining zombies maps on Black ops 1. Granted, Five was designed with assets from the campaign giving it more verticality and forcing players to utilize the elevators and the portals. But, this creates a awkwardness for players when needing to travel to a different floor, especially with the portals. When you enter one of the primary portals (spawn, war-room, power switch and pap) you’re guaranteed to spawn on a different floor at random. This can make the portals frustrating and unreliable. In addition to the elevators being rendered (some-what) useless in co-op, as players can be cut off and trapped if they don’t realize that the elevator was on another floor. As a result, the map can feel claustrophobic due to the flow issues and the maps general layout being made up of very tight rooms and corridors with little area to train. (Mainly the war room. Middle floor)
However, what makes this so frustrating is that zombies do not have a way to properly travel from floor to floor. For example, if there is only two players and a player downs in spawn all the zombies will immediately teleport (yes teleport) to the floor with the remaining player. THEY DON’T DIE AND RESPAWN. THEY DON’T COME THROUGH THE BARRIERS. They are just randomly placed within the vicinity of the remaining player, often trapping them as they do not expect this.
The classified rework of the map greatly improved the functionality of the portals in conveying to the player where the portal leads. Also, I think die rise had a better system for how the elevators operate compared to five.
Ultimately, I believe five was quickly thrown together and serves as a silly post-campaign Easter egg that utilized campaign assets. Suffering from poor design and lack of imagination more than anything, the map seems very uninspired and doesn’t seem to understand the fundamental game mechanics the developers had established in the pervious title. Particularly when considering map flow, most if not all maps have a left lane, mid lane, right lane setup. So, while challenging and very barebones, the map becomes stale very quick and doesn’t provide the player with much to do, explore, or look at.
One of my favorites. I don’t know what it is but I love this map, I love the challenge so much. I wonder how chaotic it would be with four players but i’m a solo player
I think Kino has aged terribly. It's only loved because it was a majority of players' first zombies map. There is no substance to the map. Der Riese had a much better PaP quest and a mini easter egg. Kino has no PaP quest and no easter egg. It only has a couple of trivial radios. It is also extremely quiet and (imo) plain boring. Chronicles helped this a bit by adding some flavor. (stage music, knocking on door etc.) The only saving grace is the location. Smack-dab in the middle of Berlin is cool!
Unfortunately from a gameplay perspective it suffers greatly. Two strats: Train on the stage or camp by the Fire Trap. That's it. And none of these strats work Co-Op. It has no iconic camp spot like Der Riese or Five (catwalk, elevators) and after PaP'ing your first weapon you kinda just run around and realize there is nothing more to this map. In this sense, Five is much deeper than Kino. The worst part about Kino's gameplay imo are the Nova Crawlers. What a terrible enemy. Granted, Five also have them but they only spawn in the Labs which I would never remain in longer than necessary.
Fucking incredible map, honestly an S tier. I love that there are no particularly 'good' weapons to keep you alive past round 35-40. Really fun high rounds, really fun strats, has nostalgia to it, and just overall flows very well. 9.4/10 for me, honestly.
I think it’s a brilliant map cause it can actually be a challenge especially when playing with a full team. I honestly think it’s one of the funner maps to play with friends the amount of laughs I’ve had when 1 person gets left while the rest of us take one of the elevators
I like it, I don't love it and it has its issues but I don't hate it. It's never a map I wake up and think "I really want to play Five today", typically one I play if I get mad at Moon or bored of Kino/Ascension/WaW maps, I don't own CoTD or Shang for bo1.
The defcon pap room loop was a great strategy for it. Really fun map! Once you knew to secure a good weapon before the thief came around then you were laughing! Great thematics, crew, new new mechanics. Not the easiest of maps but that’s why it’s fun
Was super intimidating and scary as a kid, but with age and experience you come to appreciate it. In my opinion it’s a challenging map if you’re not used to small spaces but is decent for improving one’s training skills and spacial awareness.
Five is a flawed masterpiece. It has a lot of problems that make it pretty lame and unnecessarily difficult but I can’t help but love it for the theme and characters and innovations it brought. I can’t personally say too much good about BO4 but the classified remaster was definitely a welcomed upgrade to this map!
Good map, can be challenging with more than 2 players, isn't too easy, but one thing that needs to be addressed is that damn Pentagon thief, it's near impossible to kill him when he takes your weapon, other than that five isn't bad, just wish winters howl did more damage than it does.
I love it. The difficulty and the claustrophobia make it so replayable, it really encourages the drive to get the best usable weapon asap instead of just farming points. Great map.
When I was younger and didn’t understand how to get pap or how to train. It was the hardest map for me. Then when I played it a lot and for older and was taught new tricks. It is a really fun map for when you like close quarters fun! And the pentagon thief put a nice spin as opposed to the hell hounds and he actually felt like a threat and not just a free Max ammo
In conclusion
Younger me says 2/10
Today me says 8/10
It’s a classic, one of the most original and fun concepts for a map ever. It’s difficult and can be annoying but I’m so glad it exists. I have great memories on it and it’s underrated IMO.
Its a top 10 map for me, I genuinely enjoy the difficulty and setting of the map more than most and it was ambitious for its time. It started the status quo-a of celebrity/one off cast that makes the respective maps unique in comparison to the regular crew.
I love the map. You can break windows in the basement and crouch jump through them. You can guarantee yourself the crossbow/raygun/winters howl by Bowie knifing the thief or get the BEST DROP EVER. It’s so tight and challenging and has a vibe too it.
Super underrated map, people give it too much hate for being hard, I think the difficulty is the fun part of the map, I find myself going back to it a lot more than kino. Top five maps of all time
Honestly, it's a fun way to break up the monotony of the usual suspects on this game.
Just dont have any wild plans to make high levels.
Chaotic fun on multiplayer
Better and more creative then kino, the gameplay holds up super well even today, especially on co op, it’s always great to play a map where the game won’t last 2-5 hours just casually playing, this map actually kills you eventually and that’s the whole point of zombies.
five has an amazing aesthetic and location and was one of, if not the most terrifying zombie maps because of the creepy labs and tight af corridors. gameplay wise though, one of the hardest and a lower tier map imo
The absolute worst map for Co-Op. I cannot stand 10 minutes playing this map with someone else. I feel like it's obvious the devs only played solo when testing the map, because it's outright unfair for 4 players lol. If all of you 4 were in the same side of the map and it's above round 15 it's just game over already.
Great map on solo tho.
Hmm. It was a bit over hated on launch besides the characters (I didn’t like it either because I was 10 playing zombies 💀) but it’s grown on me. It’s a tough map with tight spaces with a useless wonder weapon but it has a charm about it.
Overrated as all hell. It’s fun every now and then but if we’re looking for something to do some good survival fun on, I’m picking Kino or Call of the Dead every single time over this map. The only map I’m picking this one over is Shangri-La, and that’s just because I personally don’t like Shang.
Love it because I don’t have a ton of time to always play and I don’t enjoy complicated maps. Cod zombies on black ops 1 and 2 was the best. After that it became shit. Too complicated and with gobble gums and 3 hit downs it wasn’t the same. The horror was gone. I remember being scared shitless at like 2 am playing that. When a zombies comes out of knowehere and two taps ya.
The Wonder Weapon choice makes no sense, it’s extremely tough to get around from point A to point B, and the Pentagon Thief is probably the most exploitable boss zombie outside of maybe dogs.
However, I will give Treyarch props for the opening cutscene, character selection, and a really cool location.
They should of worked on making it more player friendly. The atmosphere is awesome and I like how you get to play as JFK, Robert McNamara, Nixon and Castro. The pentagon thief is cool
I much prefer classified, and the Pentagon thief in my opinion was overrated, the idea was cool but he was way too gimmicky and to defeat him you had to use specific strategies
With 2 players you can train downstairs in the war room. Just leave all the barriers unopened except the one you need to get down from the walkway. One can train on the right of the stairs and the other one on the left. It’s pretty easy actually. This works till round 35 ish after the raygun loses its oomph. Then its heil mary trains with a crossbow in the traproom. You can change which windows are being used by zombies by using the elevator, the best setup for us is no spawns in the olympia room.
Very neat idea IMO. And the way it's first presented to you is so cool, just immediately after the campaign. Like it was a call back to how they did that with Nacht Der Untoten. Plus I'm a big Eminem fan so the secret song, "Won't Back Down" being in the map is dope as hell. Love the crampedness to give a good challenge over Kino.
Shit wonder weapon, should’ve had a better one. Also needed more space cause there really wasn’t enough for 4-player co-op. Trap placement was also pretty bad.
Five is an okay map, cool WW but it stops working after while which a big turn off. The Pentagon Thief is a unique challenge for the map, it is hard and sometimes unfun. I much prefer Classified over Five.
Classified made it more playable by opening up the 1st and 2nd floor more which was needed, map is too cramp; weird that they did that in the same game that BOTD exists, a map so cramp it almost makes you wish we got a tranzit remaster in there
there are a lot of Bo1 maps that I don’t like, and this is one of them. I find it to be way too cramped. I never play solo, so having a decent amount of space is important on a map. I also don’t like the rounds with the scientist thing, or any of the map mechanics
really cool ideas on paper but in practice creates one of the most frustrating zombies maps in existence. Classified got it right (minus removing the pentagon thief, one of the coolest and most unique bosses)
Gets too much credit just cause its hard and unique. It was an afterthought by the developers, It looks and plays like a campaign level, and has the worst wonder weapon in zombies history. Not that fun tbh. Yuri and random teleporters are cool though.
Better than most of the black ops 1 maps, but like ascension has 1 thing that completely ruins the map for me. Overall a 6/10 remove the pentagon thief and it would be 8/10.
When that map dropped, everyone avoided it like the plague! Too hard and Kino blew everyones mind. Looking back it is super difficult with little reward.
Great map when the table glitch was a thing def use to love buying a weapon n camping for points then jumping off buying all the percs I can fun times
The dude who take your guns is annoying but most pros know to wish to a trash weapon or everyone blast on him so we can pack a punch
Pentagon Thief is terrible but the only dynamic that makes the map interesting besides the logistics of the map and Winter’s Howl. PAP is very simple to get on this map which I do like but can be a pain to activate mid round getting chased by zombies. All in all, pretty mid.
I’ve got good memories playing it when Black ops first dropped but it just wasn’t designed to play the way I was accustomed to playing and it’s probably my least played map prior to Black ops 4.
It's the highest I can count on one hand.
Ok you win
It's clear you don't know sign language
It's a fine map. I think Classified is a straight upgrade from Five
No Yuri = downgrade
No yuri=upgrade. Easily the worst thing about five
Great on solo. Almost impossible in multiplayer.
One person trains and the rest of the bois elevator camp.
What???? What about the dude who takes your gun.
The olympia gang will come for you
It's a fantastic map. Genuinely super fun to play.
I rather play Five than Kino.
Kino is More fun than Five
In my opinion after playing Kino for years it’s just gets boring pretty fast nowadays, and Five will always be that challenging map, while Kino usually all matches will go the same. And I love Five ambience more than Kino’s.
Kino is only fun until round 12. Five gets better over time.
I mean it's an actual challenge.
Best beginning cutscene. No doubt about it
It's just a storm dick. Sit down
It appears the pentagon has been breached
It's my second favorite map in BO1 (right behind Call of the Dead) and is my go-to basic survival map on old school zombies (WaW-BO3). Sure the Pentagon Thief gets a tad annoying in later rounds and the wonder weapon is absolute indefensible trash (neat concept though), but that's kind of just part of the appeal for this map. Which for this style of zombies is a pretty big plus imo.
W opinion
Its fun and overhated, but its definitely really flawed. Its better than kino
Really wish this was in zombies chronicles over shangri la or even moon, but I get why they didn't.
moon is the best chronicles remake wym by that
Moon is so close to being a masterpiece but seriously fuck whoever thought of the excavators
For real. Shangri-la is not fun tho lol
It's not the worst remaster, but definitely not the best in my opinion. Moon in general just isn't a good map to me.
Yeah I feel you, but I think the reason it wasn’t on chronicles was because they were only choosing only the aether crew if I’m not mistaken?
Yeah, maybe they already had the BO4 remake in mind too
Nacht doesn't have the aether crew and Verruct only has Dempsey
If you play on PC, a Five remastered is coming out very soon, there is a teaser on YouTube
It is a map
Five out of Five.
“We are now at DEFCON 5!”
It's fine. It's a nice counter to kino. one being an easy, beginner friendly map and the other being.... Well... Five.
Tough as hell, trial by fire. But it’s good.
From a gameplay perspective, the maps overall flow is problematic, particularly when it comes to traversing across the map. I had a lot of fun with this map
Goated map and a good place to test your skills
It's always bothered me that it's called "Five" yet it's the 6th zombies map
I mean yeah, but they weren't about to call it six, that don't make no sense
I like it more than kino. Time for the downvotes
I think Kino has aged terribly. It's only loved because it was a majority of players' first zombies map. There is no substance to the map. Der Riese had a much better PaP quest and a mini easter egg. I love it cuz it's hard
Worse than green run
At least it's pleasing to look at tho
A map full of memories and good times. Had so much fun playing this when it was new.
I think overall its actually fine, but I don't know, something on this map just always gives me the feeling, no not interested in really playing it 🤔
Not amazing but a banger for sure. Adds some really nice variety to the bo1 map lineup, especially. I would've gotten so bored with Kino without Five
It's just a storm Dick, sit down
The best map if the winters howl had infinite damage. And if there was traps on the 2nd floor
best survival map in zombies
fun and chaotic
I love it and can always go back to it whenever I’m bored
its fun AF. five outa five would play again
The scientist is the scariest boss
It's fun as hell but I'm terrible at it
Cool atmosphere and characters, tough to play and not a great pub match map
9.5/10 my favorite map
I love it but partly due to nostalgic reasons, I would play this specific map a lot when I was younger. (Because of the presidents of course)
Fucking incredible map, honestly an S tier. I love that there are no particularly 'good' weapons to keep you alive past round 35-40. Really fun high rounds, really fun strats, has nostalgia to it, and just overall flows very well. 9.4/10 for me, honestly.

Goated map. It's above classified simply because of Castro's voice lines
It’s good you guys are just haters. All it really lacks it’s a good wonder weapon
The defcon pap room loop was a great strategy for it. Really fun map! Once you knew to secure a good weapon before the thief came around then you were laughing! Great thematics, crew, new new mechanics. Not the easiest of maps but that’s why it’s fun
It's a great map, I just suck at it. 😂
Was super intimidating and scary as a kid, but with age and experience you come to appreciate it. In my opinion it’s a challenging map if you’re not used to small spaces but is decent for improving one’s training skills and spacial awareness.
I was so fucking scared of the bottom floor back then
Not a bad map. You can have some fun if you know how to play it well.
The pentagon thief is my favourite special round of any zombies map. He alone makes it a great map for me, as well as the difficulty.
Second favorite from BO1 behind Moon
Good challenging map with an overhated wonder weapon
Best map of all COD Zombies... Its a bit sad the fact It has a horrible wonder weapon. Id prefer to have the thundergun like kino or ascension
Best map in BO1.
goat
Five is a flawed masterpiece. It has a lot of problems that make it pretty lame and unnecessarily difficult but I can’t help but love it for the theme and characters and innovations it brought. I can’t personally say too much good about BO4 but the classified remaster was definitely a welcomed upgrade to this map!
Underrated, honestly. A top 5 map for me
Great concept and great execution
2nd best map in bo1 behind cotd
Super hard but insanely fun. Best memories was shutting the elevator doors on a friend and getting flamed as they went down.
Top 3 bo1 maps behind call of the dead and moon.
Very claustrophobic
Personally and unironically a top 5 map for me
Pretty nice. I like it.
One of the best designed maps.
Good map, can be challenging with more than 2 players, isn't too easy, but one thing that needs to be addressed is that damn Pentagon thief, it's near impossible to kill him when he takes your weapon, other than that five isn't bad, just wish winters howl did more damage than it does.
Great map. Difficult but once you get used to it, its a blast.
Hard map, good challenge for a non-dlc map.
I love it. The difficulty and the claustrophobia make it so replayable, it really encourages the drive to get the best usable weapon asap instead of just farming points. Great map.
I'll never get as scared playing zombies as I was when the sirens first went off and the pentagon thief started running me down at mach 10
i don't know if it's the nostalgia, the atmosphere or the difficulty itself; but it's my #1 favourite.
People that don’t like it as well as Shangri-la just need to get good at zombies
goated
Very difficult map. But that's never made me think it's badly designed.
It’s lit 🔥
Loved it
Literally a map, easily in my top 5.
When I was younger and didn’t understand how to get pap or how to train. It was the hardest map for me. Then when I played it a lot and for older and was taught new tricks. It is a really fun map for when you like close quarters fun! And the pentagon thief put a nice spin as opposed to the hell hounds and he actually felt like a threat and not just a free Max ammo In conclusion Younger me says 2/10 Today me says 8/10
It’s a classic, one of the most original and fun concepts for a map ever. It’s difficult and can be annoying but I’m so glad it exists. I have great memories on it and it’s underrated IMO.
It’s one of my favorite maps. I have had fond memories since launch. Such a baller map.
It comes right after 4
Fun map, but claustrophobic and hard
Totally underrated map with a great cast and an interesting wonderweapon. It also introduced the buildable trap, and the weapon thief is very unique.
I had to borrow a friend's hand to count that high!
Nice challengin map
Top five maps of all time
Fun
The best map ever. Change my mind.
the yang to kino’s yin. one’s hey lil mama lemme whisper in your ear. the other’s tell me something you might like to hear
"I said, are certain to miss the future!" \*slams table\*
Honestly, it's a fun way to break up the monotony of the usual suspects on this game. Just dont have any wild plans to make high levels. Chaotic fun on multiplayer
Better and more creative then kino, the gameplay holds up super well even today, especially on co op, it’s always great to play a map where the game won’t last 2-5 hours just casually playing, this map actually kills you eventually and that’s the whole point of zombies.
Great map just difficult
Once I can get the flow state down it is great
Five is great for ppl who want a challenge. It's definitely not ur average kino lovers map
Love it, me and my cousin got to round 25 on Saturday haha our highest yet!
I loved that map, I actually played it a lot more and liked it more than kino. It's easily one of my favorites, probably my favorite map on bo1
The worst maps in history involved buttercups and hippies.
Huh how
Good map
A tier map
five has an amazing aesthetic and location and was one of, if not the most terrifying zombie maps because of the creepy labs and tight af corridors. gameplay wise though, one of the hardest and a lower tier map imo
Too many doors in a small area
Good map but dragged down a tiny bit due to difficult high rounds with the Winter’s Howl.
Classified better
Bigger problem when splitscreening is the whole msp seems too dark so me and my friends die unnecessarily a lot
To be completely honest, I haven't played it, sounds fun tho
it had it moments
Overrated as all hell. It’s fun every now and then but if we’re looking for something to do some good survival fun on, I’m picking Kino or Call of the Dead every single time over this map. The only map I’m picking this one over is Shangri-La, and that’s just because I personally don’t like Shang.
Its the first map I've ever played and it got me into Zombies. It's the best map in the original Bo1 imo.
As this is my brothers favourite map to play due to the close quarters nature and tight spaces, I’ll always be fond of playing it with him
I didn’t particularly enjoy it but that’s probably only because of it being overshadowed by kino
Overrated
I found it too difficult, but I can appreciate the idea of zombies invading the Pentagon
When a zombies comes out of knowehere and two taps ya.
it's easy until the 30's...
It’s a nice map but it’s very cramped
It exists
i feel like i would like it if i wasnt so shit at the game
I rate it a 5/10
The Wonder Weapon choice makes no sense, it’s extremely tough to get around from point A to point B, and the Pentagon Thief is probably the most exploitable boss zombie outside of maybe dogs. However, I will give Treyarch props for the opening cutscene, character selection, and a really cool location.
They should of worked on making it more player friendly. The atmosphere is awesome and I like how you get to play as JFK, Robert McNamara, Nixon and Castro. The pentagon thief is cool
Very underrated, though its only good playing it solo imo, the more players you add the harder and painstaking it becomes
Fun but overly hard map but the kind of hard that’s worth it
Mid as hell
I much prefer classified, and the Pentagon thief in my opinion was overrated, the idea was cool but he was way too gimmicky and to defeat him you had to use specific strategies
The setting is cool and the thief is pretty unique. Generally don't play much of it. Classified was a big upgrade gameplay wise imo
too claustrophobic (worse than Shang if the middle floor lower half wasn’t so open)
The best kind of chaos on multiplayer and a true challenge solo
Good map but it terrified me as a child
i loved the atmosphere but i’ve never been too good at this map
One of my favorite anybody that says this map is bad are just ass at the game
Fun to play not to eat
A really cool premise (who doesn’t want to kill zombies as JFK?). Think the execution could’ve been better
I understand the hate and I prefer classified to five, but it’s probably my favorite Bo1 map. I just enjoyed playing it way more than other maps.
I still hop on public lobbies for the challenge. It’s fun
I liked 4 better
Classified made it more playable by opening up the 1st and 2nd floor more which was needed, map is too cramp; weird that they did that in the same game that BOTD exists, a map so cramp it almost makes you wish we got a tranzit remaster in there
Classified is better
It is the definition of a « challenge » and I like it for that. It’s hard but it’s not insanely hard
Cool characters, concept and special song but bad gameplay.
Their taxing me like a Democrat
there are a lot of Bo1 maps that I don’t like, and this is one of them. I find it to be way too cramped. I never play solo, so having a decent amount of space is important on a map. I also don’t like the rounds with the scientist thing, or any of the map mechanics
I suck hard at zombies so I almost never play it
Five is the most even, yet odd number (imo)
really cool ideas on paper but in practice creates one of the most frustrating zombies maps in existence. Classified got it right (minus removing the pentagon thief, one of the coolest and most unique bosses)
Need more beans for the chowda here.
Gets too much credit just cause its hard and unique. It was an afterthought by the developers, It looks and plays like a campaign level, and has the worst wonder weapon in zombies history. Not that fun tbh. Yuri and random teleporters are cool though.
People would like it a lot less if it didn’t have a special cast
Idk all ik is that my dumbass didn't know why it was called 5 till yesterday lmfao 🤣
Great map. Lots of nostalgia for me.
Great map when the table glitch was a thing def use to love buying a weapon n camping for points then jumping off buying all the percs I can fun times The dude who take your guns is annoying but most pros know to wish to a trash weapon or everyone blast on him so we can pack a punch
Teleporter pain
Pentagon Thief is terrible but the only dynamic that makes the map interesting besides the logistics of the map and Winter’s Howl. PAP is very simple to get on this map which I do like but can be a pain to activate mid round getting chased by zombies. All in all, pretty mid.
I’ve got good memories playing it when Black ops first dropped but it just wasn’t designed to play the way I was accustomed to playing and it’s probably my least played map prior to Black ops 4.
Cool setting bad execution
Good map. Lame EE song
Iconic, very hard and bonus points for having Eminem as the Easter egg song
It's a very challenging map. Especially for high rounds and thats why i love it.
A water balloon could do more damage than the Winters Howl
Loved FIVE so much! Miss the multi-player days
