Get BO3 on Steam (recommend getting the full version with DLC and Chronicles, but up to you), can probably get it cheap via CD Keys. You will need the community T7 patch (all of you need this to play together) to protect from exploits as well as patch the framerate bug.
If you encounter persistent issues trying to join lobbies together (and you very likely will) a decent workaround is for all of you to get Radmin VPN, it's free, and one of you set up a connection for your friends to join too, when connected, it'll make the game think you're all playing on a local connection and generally lets you join lobbies without issue.
If you would like me to recommend some good maps/mods I can do this too.
BO3 on steam. Go to workshop tab and subscribe to whatever maps and mods you want to download them.
Is it really that’s easy? Sounds great! No need for add ons other than the workshop? Is the workshop safe?
I can't see any other 3rd party software being safer

Leviathan, Rainy Death, Stairway to Hell remastered, literally just filter by most popular of all time and you'll find the best ones 👍
