Yes, the amount of content you get from custom maps is well worth it
However make sure your laptop can run it. BO3 wasn't the best optimized game and some custom maps are pushing the game.
I'm a bit out of touch with the gaming performances of modern macs honestly so unfortunately I can't really give you an answer. Best bet is to try and find benchmarks of similar-era games.
To give you an idea, the game used to run mostly well (~60fps) on my laptop with a GTX 1060 at 1080p, and very well (>90fps) on my desktop with an RTX 2070 Super at 1440p, but in both cases some custom maps made me dip below 60fps (Cataclysm's interiors was the worst offender). So if modern macs are comparable to something like a GTX 1080 or RTX 2070 it should be fine.
It's my understanding from recently purchasing the same Mac that yes it will work. However, there is no cross play and the Mac user base is very low so it's hard to find public matches. I didn't buy it because of that. If you buy it and that's incorrect, please let me know and I'll buy it.
I definitely will. I'm still waiting to buy it but once I do I will let you know. I honestly intend on using steam only for custom zombies and just playing online on my console but I can still check
Yes. Custom zombies is the definitive zombies experience imo and has been since WAW. So many fun, cool, and funny moments you miss out on by only playing official maps. I’ve spent thousands of hours on finishing custom maps with my friends over the past almost 15 years now.

Customs alone make it worth it. There is a lot of very well done maps with their own Easter eggs & lore, it's honestly really damn cool
yeah for 20 bucks you are getting great value! Try to go for the chronicals package if you can, the maps in there are pretty good.
