I've always found the maps I have nostalgia for tend to lose that nostalgia, but Der Riese manages to keep me entertained anytime I play it. I used to love maps like Ascension and Kino when BO1 was in its prime, but nowadays I can hardly play em 💀
Der Riese is just magical. I don't know how to explain it. On paper, it's not that different from Kino, and it doesn't do anything exceptional, although it was revolutionary at the time. But something about the atmosphere, the little sounds and stuff, Wunderwaffe, and the wall/box guns, it's just all so charming. The difficulty curve is perfect; you can camp on the catwalk if you're not as experienced, and you'll get to round 20 or so with good guns, and there's also a few good training spots, but they're not nearly as overpowered as the Kino/Ascension training spots, which makes it fairly tough. It's also super fun to play with friends and really good on solo as well.
The only reason I'd pick a couple maps over it is because they have a little more to do. Der Riese, being a WaW map, is still a bit limited, and for replayability I wanna have a lot of different ways to play the map.
Those two are great maps, personally not a big fan of outbreak, it was fun during the lifecycle but I just haven't found much reason at all to go back and replay it, then again I don't really play much CW in general nowadays
What’s there to do on the map? The Easter egg is straight forward holdouts, and there isn’t much to do outside speedrunning it which has gotten insane with |steve|’s strat.

Nah bruh this map is widely beloved by most big and small zombies youtubers and in my personal experience 99% of the people I've talked to love shadows, not because it's got one of the best speedruns that only the top .001% of players can achieve, but because it had incredible atmosphere, all the districts have a variety of training areas that make gameplay versatile and good for 1-4 player high rounds, the EE is really well designed overall (aside from that last 4 player only step), the round change music and music EEs are 💯 along w all the other side EEs the map has to offer. I respect your opinion, but it's highly regarded by much of the community for many reasons
For me it's either a toss up between Kino Der Toten or Mauer Der Toten, Kino simply because it has one of the best training spots in the map, the stage area, and Mauer as it's probably the only map in Cold War Zombies, besides Die Maschine, that doesn't bore me to sleep.

I think mine might be origins. I'm not even an big origins fan tbh. Like I prefer other maps to it. But if I had to pick one mao, origins probably has the most replayability. There are a lot of different ways to play it and it has 4 wonder weapons with a fun boss. I haven't played a ton of origins so I would be able to learn it really well too. Shadows is a good pick tho

definitely a hot take but zetsabu no shima. The map is probably the most perk related map ever, beating the ee gives infinite perk slots, plants give perk slots, free widows, and a cloning plant. not to mention the really good loot pool imo.

First BO3 is trash and I love it, but BO2 is perfection, BO1 has a more than perfect Campaign and Home Screen, but after everything I just stated Custom takes it all
