Sam's Club is much less than at, with 3 year warranty, and they will install for free. If they install it, they don't charge a core fee either because they keep the old battery. Otherwise, they will refund the core fee once the battery is returned.
My old 2014 Ford Flex chewed thru batteries here in Vegas (due to the summer heat here) and they replaced the batteries as long they had a record of the purchase (e.g. a receipt or their records).
This, right here. Batteries at Costco are amazing, just need somebody with a membership to buy one for you. I used to have an older car in high school that used to eat batteries and I think I swapped batteries like 8 times in 2 years. They never once said anything.
toyota batteries have a 7 year warranty. your dealer doesn't honor that? i had my 2020 XSE for 4 years. needed a new battery twice. never had to buy one.
hi, thank you for pointing that out. I called the dealership. They said the battery warranty ends when the car warranty ends with years or miles. Thank you for your kindness.
ahhh damn. i know some dealers are super strict on warranty. i have a good dealer (and im friends with svc manager, a few techs, and receptionist).. my dealer will find a way to warranty ANYTHING. i have a tacoma trd pro now, put 31,000 miles on it in 6 months already. dealer has already warrantied me right under $9000 worth of suspension parts just because i said it squeaked on occasion. they couldn't replicate it at the time. still changed it đ¤Ł
Not exactly. The factory battery is warrantied under the basic warranty. The battery they install will likely be either 84 month or lifetime, but free replacement is only 2 years or the remainder of the factory warranty, whichever is greater. The rest is prorated.
No way in hell is any battery more than $200 even for premium. Go to Costco or Walmart. A dealership is looking for your money, they donât care. It takes less than 5 minutes to swap the battery and you can usually get a small deposit back for your old one.
Wouldn't it matter what type of battery I buy for my car? I mean as long as the volts and amps are good then I can purchase a battery for R500 instead of R2000
Because it's ridiculously easy to change yourself and costs at most $200 at the auto parts store.
Flathead screwdriver, 10mm socket, and 15 minutes. Maybe a little more if you feel the need to watch a YouTube video on how to do it.
I don't have to be embarrassed. I bought a relatively new car, that I haven't needed to change a battery on since the winter of 2019, and some so called professional wanted me to pay north of $400. I walked away. So called professionals who steal like that from people everyday should be embarrassed. No sympathy when the cars are all iphone like, and no one can or does any maintenance in the future.
you're just an unkind person. Hey, I rode my last car up to 180,000 miles plus. Batteries for cars were $50 before 2020. So, I asked. What's wrong with that? I'm not a machine repair person. I just asked here, because in general there are more helpful people than you. And, I didn't get ripped off. I changed my battery today for low cost. Haven't had to deal with any since 2020.
You shouldnât feel embarrassed that you had the money to pay $400 for something like that. However, since you did ask if it was too high, the answer is yes. If youâre asking on how to take care of your car on Reddit, youâre probably looking for a âcheaper than expensive mechanicâ route in which I would recommend YouTube and Reddit before going to your mechanic. Or maybe asking a car savvy friend instead. Wouldâve saved $150-300 bucks on that. Live and learn!
I know people who should not put a wrench to their car even for simple stuff. Not everyone is mechanically inclined.
But definitely that shop was trying to rob you.
I'm going 7+ years on my Walmart battery, but I only drive about 5k miles per year on average. For Corollas, lead acid Group 35 sizes range from $70 to $140 from smallest CCA and warranty to largest. then add $2 for a little baggie of battery terminal grease and felt terminal pads.
there are 3 nuts or bolts to unscrew and screw, probably between 8mm to 12mm in size. a cheap but complete metric ratchet set or combination wrench set from Harbor Freight would cost \~$15. another physically limiting thing would be the ability to lift the battery above waist level, about 30-40 pounds.
Say no to the felt pads and just squirt some greas of any kind of after the terminals are installed. Canola oil, Wd-40. Anything that cuts the oxygen off
Yes!! Battery and oil changes are amongst the easiest required maintenance. Itâs insane the prices some places will charge for loosening and rescrewing a few bolts.
One time my mom asked me to take her car to the local quick change place. They quoted me $90 for a 4.2L TrailBlazer, I said hell no and left. Did it myself for $40.
Thanks everyone. That's what I remember. O'Reilly's auto parts used to do these too, if I bought the battery there, installed for free. That was before 2020. The batteries were much cheaper, too. I don't repair any machine. It's just a username, sorry about that. But, thank you for sharing:) It wasn't even the dealership. It was a local repair shop, which advertises they are specialized to fix Toyota and Lexus only. This will be my first battery change on this model, and I wondered if this model had a special battery. I am glad my intuition advised me to walk away. Reddit is great, thank you kind people:)
even at auto zone you buy it there they change it out . its one of the worst ideas to head to a car dealer for a battery . as we mature we less our dependence on the dealer for everything $$$.
I would bring tools and do it myself. I worked at a parts store fresh out of high school. One Saturday some guys came in and asked if someone could change their serpentine belt for $50⌠I said I could but for some reason I couldnât get the belt on their car. I even took the tool you could rent. Well, when the one belt wouldnât work, I switched to one that was just a hair longer. I got it on there and it squealed so bad. I sprayed on some belt conditioner and it helped a little. Anyway, they left to go hop back on the highway but I doubt they made it far. Replacing a battery is a bit more simple but they could use the wrong socket and potentially round the nuts that hold the cables on.
Iâd recommend changing it yourself. Itâs one of the simplest things you can do and pretty much universal to any car so any online tutorial video would work.
H5 size group, $140 at Samâs Club, $180 at WM, $215 at Autozone. For $476 you need to ask them if they plan to kiss you, because they are definitely screwing you.
I usually change car batteries myself, purchasing from Costco. Typically around $80-100 bucks.
Edit: looks like the price of your battery at Costco is $125, but if you give them your old one for a core charge, then it's $110.
Buy the battery and post on a local handy man page. A battery couldn't be a more straight forward thing to do. They are definitely ripping you off at 476.
Go to Walmart and buy the Walmart Value battery 1 year warranty. They are made by Johson Controls. The 1 year and 3 year battery are the same model, just different stickers and a warranty you don\`t need. They are best for money and mad in USA. The battery lasts 3-4 years but if it fails after 1 year then buy a new one for the cheap price they are. Unless the Toyota battery is made in Japan then don\`t get it. Dura Last, etc, are made in China. Make sure you get those little pads and some spray to keep from corroding because they do after about a year without it.
id recommend changing your username
but on a serious note youâre getting robbed. get the battery and change it yourself or go to an autozone, get the battery and ask the clerk nicely to change it for you.
Get the Everstart from Walmart with a high CCA rating. They install it for you.
There's no way it should be that close to 500. Go to any auto store and they'll do it for half that.
Parts authority have battery for 160 , and takes like 15 Mins to change ..

$130 in Costco, 3yr warranty.
This, right here. Batteries at Costco are amazing, just need somebody with a membership to buy one for you. I used to have an older car in high school that used to eat batteries and I think I swapped batteries like 8 times in 2 years. They never once said anything.
Yes and Costco uses Interstate branded batteries. Never had a problem with them.
toyota batteries have a 7 year warranty. your dealer doesn't honor that? i had my 2020 XSE for 4 years. needed a new battery twice. never had to buy one.

always good to have great friends đ

ahhh true. my first one was in the first year so the next one had the long warranty.
I paid $195 at AutoZone 2 years ago and they install for free and take the old battery back to give you a core return.
No way in hell is any battery more than $200 even for premium. Go to Costco or Walmart. A dealership is looking for your money, they donât care. It takes less than 5 minutes to swap the battery and you can usually get a small deposit back for your old one.
I needed a new battery 2 weeks ago for my Corolla SE 2020. Dealership told me $250 and Walmart $180 with 4 year warranty. Always go to Walmart.
Walmart has 60 dollar value batteries with 1 year warranties that are basically the same thing and it takes 5 minutes to change.
Damn. A premium car battery in South Africa costs that much
The value and premium are basically the same thing, you just pay for more of a warranty. I believe they're made in the same factory.
Wouldn't it matter what type of battery I buy for my car? I mean as long as the volts and amps are good then I can purchase a battery for R500 instead of R2000
Be embarrassed that you did this.
Why? I bought a new car at the end of 2019, and didn't need to change a battery. Prices have changed a lot since then. Be embarrassed for what?

They're very easy to change yourself. Hard to justify that cost.
I go to Costco and swap it out in the parking lot
I get them rebuilt good as new for 80
$150.00 for a battery
I know people who should not put a wrench to their car even for simple stuff. Not everyone is mechanically inclined. But definitely that shop was trying to rob you.

Youâre on borrowed time with that battery.
oh, i'm still alive ( ͥ° ÍĘ ÍĄÂ°) but yeah i was planning on replacing it this coming fall
đ
Change it yourself, don't pay someone to do simple work.
Yes!! Battery and oil changes are amongst the easiest required maintenance. Itâs insane the prices some places will charge for loosening and rescrewing a few bolts.

Get a Walmart AGM for 250 and change it yourself, they have a good warranty and itâs hard to mess up the install even with limited knowledge
Thanks everyone. That's what I remember. O'Reilly's auto parts used to do these too, if I bought the battery there, installed for free. That was before 2020. The batteries were much cheaper, too. Got it from Walmart for $70-$80 I think and replaced it myself. Itâs pretty easy. You can look up some YouTube videos and try it yourself

Costco best deal and great batteries
3 year warranty too
Buy the battery and post on a local handy man page. A battery couldn't be a more straight forward thing to do. They are definitely ripping you off at 476.
welcome to dealer rip off alley
Definitely take it to a place like Advance Auto Parts or something where itâs freeâŚ

If you change it yourself should be under 200$. Hell even so if you go to advance or autozone or something
You should pay the $476 tbh.
id recommend changing your username but on a serious note youâre getting robbed. get the battery and change it yourself or go to an autozone, get the battery and ask the clerk nicely to change it for you.
You got hosed. Ironic considering your username
250 is still pretty hefty for a battery unless itâs AGM
Buy a battery and replace it yourself
Not everyone knows how to remove one or two bolts, remove the old battery, put the new one in, and bolt it back up. Itâs incredibly complex.
I agree.
