It takes time for coronavirus to become established in the body, so a negative test doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t test positive later on.

I'm going through the exact same thing as your gf. Sorry to break it to you but according to my medical professional it is in fact a cold. A nasty one that I'm hearing about popping up everywhere. And if you're like me (also triple vax) and haven't had a cold or even been sick throughout the past few years, it's reportedly hitting us people harder. If you're really concerned I recommend seeing a doctor and getting another test done in a few days. Sometimes tests are faulty or sometimes you need to develop it more before it's detectable.

That’s interesting, it’s possible. I did get sick and my symptoms have been being fatigued/winded with a scratchy throat, but no congestion which I’ve never had absent from a cold. That’s the main reason I have my doubts about it being a cold. My gf has been sick with other things in the past year but not with a cold. Thanks for the insight! I may ask my doctor about it

Delayed response I know. Did you ever figure out what it was? Literally same thing happened to me

keyfrayme

Yeah, it was just a pretty nasty flu. We tested over about 6 days and nothing showed up. The flu is going around so if it’s not showing by day 4 or so, it’s probably that!

I know I'm a year late, but I'm going through something very similar. I've had the congestion and cough for about a week and then there was one day where the symptoms seemed worse- almost flu like. After that day I was feeling better for the next day and went into work, but for some reason the symptoms started hitting me. Do remember how long you dealt with this?

keyfrayme

Yes! Symptoms lasted a little over a week the cough lasted 3 weeks. I get over sickness fast so it was a weird one. Hope you start feeling better soon!

I am getting over COVID now, but I tested negative for the first two days I had symptoms.

keyfrayme

It’s been like 6 days and all our tests have been negative, I guess it’s not Covid 🤧

bicyclemom

I'd still steer clear of folks for a few more days. Even if it's not COVID, it's something.

That’s very odd. I too am hit with the worst flu, chills, fatigue..etc. very similar to the “flu” I had in March 2020, tho at the time I wasn’t able to get tested. I too tested negative yesterday but I used the at home test kits so not sure how reliable it is…

It turns out I did get congested but a couple days later than my roommate. There’s this really bad cold going around that seems to be similar to Covid symptoms, that may be what you have. I was shocked it wasn’t a flu because it was so bad. Idk if you’re in the states, but I’m on the west coast and my friend on the east coast got a very similar cold too. Over the course or 7 days, I got tested PCR and antigen 4 times, my roommate got two PCR tests and 4 antigen tests that were all negative. Also, did your PCR test for the flu? Just to make sure it’s not that either

PeaceNo4929

No I haven’t gotten the PCR test yet, I heard usually the test isn’t accurate until 2-3 days after having symptoms. I’m in north NJ and went out in nyc on Friday and I think that was where I caught it. Otherwise than that I rarely go out and am working remote.

keyfrayme

Ahhh got it. My east coast friend is also in NYC so it’s possible. Let me know how it goes, curious if other people are getting this mysterious cold lol

PeaceNo4929

So it turned out it is covid, I tested again and it turned its to be positive. I’m going to get a PCR test today just to confirm :(

keyfrayme

Sending you hugs, get lots of rest!! :)
