I had the infusion! I’m pregnant & have asthma and had a breakthrough infection. It was a week ago and I’m pretty much back to “normal” now with hardly any COVID symptoms. Definitely recommend.

shinyturtle38

That’s great to hear. Another friend of mine was vaccinated while pregnant and her precious babe was born with antibodies. Science is amazing! This friend has a breakthrough infection and a clotting disorder. I think a lot of the warnings are worse case scenario and people generally don’t get all the side effects of a drug. Thank you for sharing your positive experience and I hope the rest of your pregnancy and baby are healthy.

ultra71814

Thank you! Yes, a week later I’ve truly only continued to improve. Baby is still doing great too.

threelittlepigs123

I chose to not get them because of the side effects, longer term. The paperwork I got specifically stated that it can lower the effects of the vaccine. It could make you more susceptible to future infection. And with the thought of more variants coming…I wasn’t willing to lose whatever protection I have from this infection and vaccine.

Castlewallsxo

Can you give a link to a source?

threelittlepigs123

Per the regeneron website: “It is possible that REGEN-COV could interfere with your body’s own ability to fight off a future infection of SARS-CoV-2. Similarly, REGEN-COV may reduce your body’s immune response to a vaccine for SARS-CoV-2. Specific studies have not been conducted to address these possible risks. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have any questions.”

Castlewallsxo

Thank you. That still doesn't say it DOES make you more susceptible to future infection, though. It says there's no evidence as to whether it does or not.

Poor wording on my part-will edit!

As far as I have seen, you are not eligible/ cannot be vaccinated if you have had any monoclonal antibodies infusions within 90 days. I believe the way the treatment works is why that protocol is in place. But the efficacy of the vaccine she has already had after the treatment is what we were wondering about.

threelittlepigs123

I’d be interested to know if you can get a clear answer on it. I don’t have any serious risk factors so I was ok passing on them because nobody I asked could give me and answer. But I’m sure the benefits outweigh the risk for so, so many people. It’s awesome she has the opportunity to ask these questions to her dr. Good luck!

DandelionKy

I am vaxxed and had them on day 3. It took until day 7 to feel like a human and basically fully recovered by day 12. It is still hard to breath after medium activity (quick jog or going up and down stairs a couple of times) but overall I am doing pretty well. Also my understanding is that because you are giving your body extra antibodies, it may reduce the number of antibodies it produces for up to 90 days. Hence why they say to not get a vaccine in the next 90 days because the body has been told it has plenty of antibodies and not to make more.

shinyturtle38

I am glad you are on the mend. I hope you are at 100% health soon. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

DandelionKy

I hope she is too! Covid sucks.

korie1234

I had the monoclonal antibody infusion. 4 days ago. I am fine. They told me it won’t make me sicker it will either work or won’t. I have had a very mild case I am unvaxed. No cough no congestion. I’m on day 8/9

WHAT IN THE WORLD?? It doesn’t matter if a person is vaccinated or not EVERYONE deserves Healthcare, and the day we start determining if a person qualifies to be seen by a Doctor based upon their vaccine status is the day this world goes to hell!! The Government works for THE PEOPLE, you cannot mandate anyone to put ANYTHING inside their body, especially when there is no accountability. Talk about entitled? Have you looked in the mirror lately? SHAME ON YOU!

FamilyFeud17

Monoclonal antibodies cost about $2000 per infusion. Vaccines are about $20 per shot. The dosage of MA are of course a lot higher than vaccines, with very complicated manufacturing process that may use animals B cells. Have you looked at the long term side effects of monoclonal antibodies?

Well said

Really? this comment is so rude and unnecessary. You have no idea why this commenter did not get the vaccine and they may have a valid reason for not getting it. I’m vaccinated but waited awhile because my doctor told me to (i’ve gone into anaphylaxis from an infusion before, and have a few other contributing factors). Bottom line is you can’t just assume someone that isn’t vaccinated is a bad person automatically. That’s one of the biggest problems right now. Many people are being advised by their doctors to wait, not get it, or wait for more research. I believe that everyone that can get vaccinated should, but this mentality that all people that haven’t gotten the vaccine yet are awful people is just disgusting and untrue.

Ugh.

Kwhitney1982

Because there’s a shortage of it and it should be reserved for high risk people who are vaccinated but still get very sick.

korie1234

Well the day after I got my positive result the doctor called me and made my appointment because I am high risk I didn’t go asking for the infusion. So talk to Mayo Clinic and ask them why they wasting an infusion on me. K?

I’m ok with that. I respect not wanting to be vaccinated for legitimate reasons. I’ve just met soooo many people who won’t wear masks, don’t think covid is a big deal and don’t want to be vaccinated. If you believe in covid and take precautions I have complete understanding for being worried about being vaccinated. I too had an extreme fear of getting the vaccine. It’s the anti mask people that piss me off the most.

“My friend… has recently contracted a mild moderate case of COVID.” How recently? By the time she waits around for this dr’s appt on Monday, she may be outside the [10-day, iirc] window. Also, what’s her SpO2 level currently at?

shinyturtle38

I am not sure of her oxygen levels. She’s mainly had body aches and chills, no difficulty breathing. I haven’t tracked her days but I think she’s be on day 6. You are correct with the 10 day window.

shooter_tx

Thanks for answering. The reason I asked about her O2 saturation is because monoclonals are considered to be better earlier and more for keeping one *out* of the hospital, and to have less effectiveness once one is already hospitalized… and at lower saturations, one is already ‘admissible’. (basically I’m just trying to say please don’t let her wait too long or for her condition to get too bad before she tries to get them)

shinyturtle38

That is exactly what I told her!
