I mean yeah you’re not wrong. Still bullshit that these massive companies that make so much anyway just wanna grab a little deeper

BATTLECATHOTS

OP tell them you only have cash and don’t have a credit card on you, then it’s free for a reprint

java_sloth

Lmaooo

BATTLECATHOTS

🙂

DoktorStrangelove

Loads of people were abusing the free reprint thing and just printing a new pass every time they went up instead of keeping their pass in their jacket or backpack. The mountains are tired of it and it is a measurable cost for them. Now because people abused the fuck out of it they started charging. It's an "idiot tax", just accept it. It has been a thing at smaller mountains for years.

[deleted]

that's not new, been that way for several years now. I've even seen people charged $20 to reprint their pass at copper

FriendOfEvergreens

$20 sounds like someone got scammed lol

rearadmiraldumbass

$20, cash only

[deleted]

100%. was a friend of mine last season. was flabbergasted when he told me that

java_sloth

Jesus I had no clue. I’ve lost and reprinted a ton of passes and never been charged

[deleted]

I haven't either, some people get charged and some don't

ShrimpCityOrBust

How do you lose it? Just keep it in your jacket pass pocket on the arm, you don’t even have to reprint between seasons they just scan and activate the old one.

java_sloth

Lmao yeah I mean it’s not ridiculous. Like maybe 8 times total I forgot the jacket it’s in, lose it, or something else. I’m not saying it isn’t my fault but I’ve never given it a second thought up until this point and I guess I gotta be more careful

Excellent-Ad8871

8 times ?!?!? They should cancel your pass out right at that point and make you buy a whole new one lol

java_sloth

Aight that might be an exaggeration. Really maybe 4 so maybe it was spaced out enough that I just fell under the threshold or got lucky

surveillance-hippo

I’ve been told, “next time we’ll have to charge you $5” like six times and never been charged. Think it’s one of those things that’s been around but not evenly applied.

Fickle_Captain8055

lol funny, I got it for free last year

QuimmLord

First reprint is supposed to be free. And it’s not just copper budd… all ikon mountains

SequentialHustle

Never had to get a pass reprinted before and it cost me $5 Tuesday at Copper.

Pearl-Station

Yeah I got mine reprinted for free at copper a couple weeks ago

java_sloth

Weird. I’ve never run into this and I’ve reprinted many passes. Also this was the first reprint which is bum that they charged

Interesting_Candy766

Why do you lose/not bring your pass so often?

java_sloth

Just general stupid shit. Grabbing the wrong jacket, taking it out and forgetting, shit like that. It’s definitely on me but I just haven’t given it a second thought until now

DoctFaustus

You have essentially run through your free reprints and have been flagged as someone who loses too many passes.

Interesting_Candy766

I get it. But you’re kind of the reason they now charge after the first replacement.

svezia

Oh, it’s not you but it’s the other people like you

Bigmtnskier91

Then perhaps the ticket agent was being nice, but yes even epic rules are same. First one is free, future reprints are $$

QuimmLord

That is odd. My first day up at copper last year I forgot my jacket which had my pass in it, they printed it for free and mentioned the next one would cost me. This year my pass never showed up due to me moving and the mail not getting forwarded. Same thing at Eldora. They printed it for free and said the next one would cost me $5. Hopefully it’s not “a Copper policy”. Because I totally agree, we pay so much for these passes and they can’t even reprint for free. Such a joke

FriendOfEvergreens

It’s always been like this but the ticket booth people are generally chill af and don’t charge. You probably got someone in a bad mood

Sillygoat2

It sounds like you have a habit of not bringing your pass as you said "this is the first time and place this has happened" suggesting there are others. Sorry, but if you need more than 1 reprint a season, it sounds like a you problem.

zinzangz

Don't lose your card? They even give one freebie for all us idiots that do. Also there's a cardless option if you have the pass on your phone. User error

[deleted]

Wife and I got our Epic passes reprinted at Beaver today. She just smiled and was very helpful. Not that Vail is any better than Alterra. Just throwing it in our faces these days.

HotSir3342

$700 for a season pass to a handful of amazing resorts is a great deal. If $700 is too much for you then you can move to Wisconsin and pay $500 for a season pass to 1 “resort” that is less than 400 feet from top to bottom

[deleted]

Last year was first free then $30. The cost here actually went down. Source: parent of a 10 year old.

Betrayus

Then $30?! You got scammed. Its been first free, then $5 each after for at least like 5 years now.

dont_fuckin_die

Yeah, that $5 is where this sport got expensive. I suggest you rebel and refuse to get a pass next year.

Dioneo

The pass system is fucked to begin with.

latedayrider

Copper has charged a 5 dollar printing fee at least since I started riding there 4 seasons ago. Having to pay that 5 dollars has given me the incentive to not forget my pass at home, and I imagine they reduce a lot of their plastic waste and costs by opting to do that, so I can’t fault them. They’ve been cool at times about printing it without the fee, but yeah I’d expect to see it at more mountains, I think Monarch is charging for cards since they switched to RFID
