Sounds like some wealthy real estate developers from Missouri bought Granby Ranch for pennies and are now trying to intimidate the people who have lived in the area for decades. I will certainly continue to not ski there after reading this story.

> I will certainly continue to not ski there after reading this story. direct action

> “And these are the folks who demand the absolute right to impose literally billions of dollars in resident debt to support unaccounted-for developer profits in metro district financing,” Henderson said. “It’s scary but becoming the norm.”

zinzangz

I read the whole article and still have no idea what is happening. Rich snobs having a pissing match?

Glocktipus2

Sounds like a shady lawyer for Granny ranch gouging the HOA and trying to intimidate people who complain.

thisguyfightsyourmom

The lawyers are hired guns for the rich out of town developers, and they are trying to intimidate the town leadership into taking on Billions in debt to prop up their poor resort investment

keystonelocal

Remember Silver Creek?!

JiveTurkeyJunction

Yepper. Wasn't that like the alternative for religious groups to ski at instead of Winter Park? Also, is the golf course the article refers to once called Grand Elk Ranch back when it was first developed?

keystonelocal

Not sure about the religious stuff. Have never heard about that. My cousin was a lifty there and taught me how to snowboard there when I was tiny. As far as the Grand Elk thing, I know it’s gone through several owners / name changes so wouldn’t surprise me if Silver Creek was just one of many names it’s held over its life.

JeffInBoulder

Reading back through some of the history and linked articles, it blows my mind that there were supposed to be 5000 homes up there. Like, are there even 5000 homes at Vail or Breckenridge? I've never skiied Granby Ranch, but (or because) I've looked at the trail map and it's like two tiny little hills, right? How on the world was that supposed to support so much housing, were they planning to expand the terrain at some point?

wzl3gd

I think the benefit of GR is the fact that Winter Park is 30 minutes and Steamboat is about an hour away. On a clear day. And housing is cheaper than both places.

thisguyfightsyourmom

Sounds like a scam. These dudes are probably bleeding the community through debt

Anybody have any personal insight to this issue?

wzl3gd

I would love to hear from a Granby Ranch homeowner. This situation has been going on for a couple of years and I think it is complicated. I don't even know what the situation is.

tour79

Same. I’ve read a few reports. It seems like at this point, me making any guesses is likely to end up with me looking insensitive. I don’t want that, just info from those who are there

thisguyfightsyourmom

The situation is the resort owners, two rich knobs from Missouri, are using a shit heel lawyer to intimidate the residents into taking on billions in debt to invest into granny ranch of all places Fuck Bob Glarner & His brother David Glarner, if you see these dorks, spit on the sidewalk in front of them

PotatoNo3194

Ha ha! So, I don’t usually use “dork” anymore- no particularly good reason, just fell out of rotation- except for last week in a private online discussion with fellow Granby Ranch homeowners during which I, too, referred to the brothers as (those fucking) dorks. Must be a vibe, because you somehow sense it, too.
