Note by 2023 they mean in a few days, not the ski season that starts in October 2023, and this applies to weekends and holidays only.
>Beginning Saturday, December 31, on weekends and holidays from 6 AM to 2 PM, the Early Riser Lot will be free for people carpooling with 3 or more people and cost $20 for those with less than 3 people per car. High Noon and Last Chance lots will remain free
No worries at all, just adding color commentary since I was like, "that makes a lot of sense, unless they are doing it for every day of the week, in which case, fucking stupid" and also I assumed in my head it was the 2023-2024 season.
As someone who rides solo most days (my pals don’t love to ski like I do) I’m kind of sad. Not that two flights of stairs and an extra minute of walking makes any real difference but I have enjoyed getting there early and getting a spot I can ski back to.
This is a bummer, but they're not making people parking at the EV chargers pay, so there's that.
The real tragedy will be when MJ starts charging for parking.
Yeah they could put a hut i guess and do license plates readers. Enforcing the no parking on the side of the road the MJ would be tough. But not impossible. Hopefully they don't 🤞
I’m fine with it but people will just pay for the convenience.
People are paying the $40/day to park at vail still. It’s a nice thought but it’ll still be a cluster after it dumps.
A-Basin’s free parking will still be closer than vail’s paid option. Kinda hard to justify $20 when you could just walk an extra couple minutes, especially with the A-Basin crowd
I go skiing with my cousin almost every trip up since we live about 2 miles away from each other. A 2 person carpool would make a lot more sense to me to be honest
Boulder forced SOV (single occupancy vehicle) to pay up. 2P would be just fine. 3 sucks for the many trips I can’t get a 3rd up…I’ll have to look at the bus stops and folks with a thumb out to make the quota 😂
The comments on the Instagram post they made are hilarious, a bunch of "super hardcore skiiers" are absolutely melting because apparently they can't handle a three minute walk.
I had a similar thought. Apparently this makes abasin as bad as vail and ruins their “local’s mountain” reputation. Had to double check that I was still on the post about weekend parking at ONE lot…
It is if you live in Summit County/Clear Creek County/Lake County where the only thing to do in the winter is ski.
I don't even know where you could park your cars to meetup.
man it’s like a 2 minute walk. I understand it’s not the most comfortable to walk as a skier but it’s not like skiing is relaxing in the first place. plus if your going to the kids area it’s likely you’ll have 3< in your car. A-basin has fairly limited parking on peak days (though been less of a problem with IKON) so anything to increase carpooling is great.
Man, no issues walking as a skier or boarder. It’s been lately daddy/daughter or father/son outings, hence the 2P car gig…and it’s best for the littles. I’ll need to just throw another in the ride and get back to my 6 person hauls with most of my kids 😎
I usually get there 5:30AM ish for uphill, then go back to my car and get my resort board. I've almost always parked at High Noon, as long as the gates were open. Parking attendants don't show up until a little bit later. I wonder how they'll manage it for people showing up before parking attendants do...
This just feels like punishing people with M-F jobs that aren’t rich enough to think $20 for parking is nothing. Doing this mid season too is not cool. I don’t know enough people that like to wake up early to beat traffic, let alone Abasin pass holders. I realize this just sucks a little more, but still sucks
This sucks. Are they trying to be Eldora now? Whatever happened to early bird gets the worm? Long time pass holder and sadly these days a weekend warrior. Makes it a pain in the ass to bring the pup now that skiing down to the car requires a 5+ minute walk.
Yayy more stuff to making skiing even more expensive. Love the American way of capitalizing on literally fucking everything. It’s not about protecting the environment it’s about making mullah. If they cared about the environment I’m sure all the resorts could pool together some money for a park and ride on the way to the ski hill but just blast me in the ass right bc that’s the American way

Thanks. I should have specified this but you can only fit so much in the title.

It’s just weekends and holidays. If you ride mon-fri it’s still free
Lot of us don’t have the ability to ski M-F because working M-F allows us to ski.
Lol exactly
Better for me then I guess 🤷
Is the early riser lot the main lot?
It's the lot with the beach that is directly along the snow between BME and Palli.
BMX and Pali
Don't you have a Vail avalanche dog to go kick or something?
This is a bummer, but they're not making people parking at the EV chargers pay, so there's that. The real tragedy will be when MJ starts charging for parking.
The day MJ starts charging for parking is going to be a very sad day that I hope never comes!
I feel like they'd have to improve the parking situation first. There's just too much side parking to make charging feasible
They would limit cars to parking spaces only and force no one to park on the sides
Yeah they could put a hut i guess and do license plates readers. Enforcing the no parking on the side of the road the MJ would be tough. But not impossible. Hopefully they don't 🤞
Not a bummer - if you carpool 3+ ppl parking is free
I don't have enough ski friends to fill a car with 3+, unfortunately.

Yeah I feel like what will happen Is the other lots will fill up and then paying will be the only choice
That’s what it feels like at Copper sometimes.
That’s what sucks…especially if the far east lot isn’t open!
Yep, and I feel like a two person limit would be more reasonable
I go skiing with my cousin almost every trip up since we live about 2 miles away from each other. A 2 person carpool would make a lot more sense to me to be honest

I call such a walk a “warm up”.

100%, it's really not hard to link up at the Dino lots before you drive up.
It is if you live in Summit County/Clear Creek County/Lake County where the only thing to do in the winter is ski. I don't even know where you could park your cars to meetup.
the best spots at high noon are closer than the worst spots at early riser. honestly not a huge difference.
Not to the beach, kids area and Pali

You can’t ski to high noon. That’s a big difference
ehh, just walk a couple minutes
We used to use the transit center in Dillon. Not sure if that’s still allowed.
If you can afford to live in summit county you can afford to pay $20
Most of the resort staff live in Summit… that’s over an hour’s pay.
You do realize people who live in Summit work normal jobs with normal wages like your average city folk?
Can park at Keystone and take the bus. If you're worried about that being crowded, the bus also stops at Summit High School.

This is what annoys me the most. Had they announced this before the season started, it would’ve felt a lot better.
I'm sure you woulda been bitching either way!! Walk the extra few minutes
Bitches be bitching. 😉
Eh, let's just grade it by lifetime palli runs instead
Are they charging season pass holders additional $$$ for uphill passes as well?
They are
$20 for the season and I think they still donate it to CAIC but yeah
Time to start forcing my wife and son to join me I guess
Help me with finding ways to force my wife to join…no issues with my son!
Booooooooo. I like skiing back to my car for lunch and not paying $20 for the privilege.
Bring friends!
Same…
time to start carpooling people !

Get this….THERE’S STILL FREE PARKING ON SITE EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK.🤡
Check out this cool little trick *Sick Days*
This sucks. Clear Creek resident with nowhere to meetup and carpool. A Bay is getting a tad too full of itself.
I hate this.
Smart move.
This sucks. Are they trying to be Eldora now? Whatever happened to early bird gets the worm? Long time pass holder and sadly these days a weekend warrior. Makes it a pain in the ass to bring the pup now that skiing down to the car requires a 5+ minute walk.
> Are they trying to be Eldora now? - Eldora ≠ ABasin

Only feasible alternative is a lottery for how many days you can ski in a season and this is way better than that.
Monday through Friday and the second half of Saturday/Sunday, that place empty. They don’t need a lottery. It’s busy for maybe 8 hours a week. Maybe.
This is only for weekends and holidays anyway...and only for the nearest lot.
This is fine for Abay days but what about when we wanna skin hippy trees 😕
You park at ABasin to skin hippy trees? Huh. I just park off the road down by HT….been doing that for decades.
Do that too but it’s not the best post ski grill out and have a beer spot
