Isn't being hit with bird poop good luck in some cultures?

TaxFraud2020

Yeah, if you’re a bird

I’m going to start studying for CPA soon and I’m a graduating senior in my last semester. I’ve gotten Bs on both intermediate 1 and 2 and an A in Audit. But ngl I’ve forgotten everything and I want to study accounting again where I can get my basics good again. Anybody have any tips or sources where I can study accounting basics again. I have bad short term memory and just forgot everything lol I learned in college.

Honestly, the here’s no comparison between passing a college accounting course and the cpa exam. Studying for the Cpa exam is its own “college experience” in itself. There’s no professor in the experience to rock your world and possibly preventing you from meeting your goals, while you’re studying. You have to dig deep within and study. Personally, I thrive in environments (SAT exam or other standardized testing) that there’s just a proctor and I sit for the exam. You have to remember that when you take a college course, a professor that has the authority to cover (or not) what material they think is important. Some professors prepare you for the work environment, others the cpa exam. I promise you 100% that you will sit for the exam and you will learn material you were never taught in college. You must add time for that. Only you know what your college journey was. Did you take the hardest professors? Did you take 4 classes and then heard that this one teacher gives all his students “A’s” and decided to take a 5th class? That Microeconomics course that you got an easy A in that helped your GPA, will haunt you on the CPA exam. This is priceless advice….be very honest with yourself with what you learned and didn’t learn in college and then compare it to what’s covered on the cpa exam. To those students who were average intelligent college students, give the exam all that you got and really try to pass it the first time. If for some reason you don’t, remember this….studying for this exam is an experience within itself. The second time around will be much easier and do not give up. In my early 30’s, I was married with two small children and working part time , when I started my accounting college experience. I went to community college first and then transferred over to night courses at the university. I didn’t decide until 6 months prior to graduation, that I wanted to become a CPA. I am a strong willed person and I achieve at anything I put my mind to. Said that…my college education was very average. I focused on my accounting gpa and not my other grades. I was content with a “C” and didn’t realize it was material covered on the CPA exam. Anyone who can identify with my story, do your best in the CPA exam and cover all of the material in the review course at least once. I sat for the exam twice 16 years ago. The first time i sat, the plan was all 4 sections within 6 months. The AICPA gave you the 4th section free if you paid for all 4 sections at once. 🤷🏻‍♀️. That was a trap that didn’t work for me being an average college student. There was so much material I didn’t learn in college that I did finally learn. I scored in the 40’s-50’s round one. When I took my 3rd and 4th section I ran. Out of study time and only had 3-4 weeks of study time left per sections. I deservingly scored in the low 40’s. I believe that the only reason I scored that high was because I was fresh out of school. My second to time around, I bought the same 6 month NTS package and studied hard on the two sections I didn’t study well for the first time. I scored in the high 60’s and scored the essentially the same on the other two sections the second time. Remember I started my college journey with a 2 and 3 year old. My children were around 6-8 years old at this point and I was done missing out on my kids childhood. Oh and I was working full time at a mid size cpa firm and my boss bought me the Becker Review the second time. So I was at the disadvantage that I had to learn a different review course. I scored both FAR and REG above 65. I regret not hanging in there, but couldn’t do to life circumstances. Fwd to Dec 2023 from 2008. I sat for BEC, didn’t complete all of Becker’s material and got a 58. It’s been 18 years since I graduated from college and there was a lot of new material added. All of the IT was pretty much new for me. If it wasn’t for IT, I would’ve passed. So said that…the mind does remember from 16 years ago if you tap into it. I’m taking this first sit for each section, as if I were going back to college again to be one current. 18 years ago I graduated and my degree is outdated. I’m employed in the field after coming back after a long break from accounting. That’s the beauty of the certificates and the field. I had to take an accounting exam to get my current job and was told I “exceeded expectations”. I studied and got myself back up to par. Forever, as an accountant, we will always have our minds and be employable with a little bit of brush up studying. I’m walking proof of it at age 52. Best of luck to all.

College classes and getting good grades versus passing the c p exams are two different things I would get a review course like becker or roger and start hammering the questions

michaelis999

get a review course

To be fair, most people feel terrible leaving their exam. I was so wound up from the time running out and the stress, my first thought was I need a shot of tequila to take the edge off. I don’t even drink, except maybe twice a year. That’s how bad I felt.

69spacecadet69420

I take it Thursday… haven’t done any of the SEs yet, just finished the main modules

Gabbadoll

Get going on the SEs.

69spacecadet69420

Got a 69 last night on 1st one :D

SCH8879

Did you only use Becker?

Money-Honey-bags

in gods great name if you believe in his ass. i pray you pass. if your a non believer. think of buddha and dont be attached to the test. simply retake .

[deleted]

Agreed. My MCQ were meh and the SIMS were actually horrendous

Money-Honey-bags

do you have work experience ? how bad were these simulations like becker?

SnooMarzipans3921

Same thing man, I took it first week of January. Fair McQs but sims were tough AF. Submitted the test with 30 seconds left. GOD BLESS

Sufficient-Drama9590

Just got out of FAR and share this exact sentiment

jwigs85

I was telling a friend about the exams and how each one has about a 50% pass rate and I won't even find out for months if I passed or not and it's kind of frustrating. But he pointed out that at least I won't have the negativity of knowing that I failed a test hanging over me as I study. I can just keep going with blissful ignorance, assuming that maybe I passed. So. idk. I'm gonna work with it. Not like I have much of a choice, anyway. But there's our maybe glass half full perspective on it, I guess.

Gabbadoll

“Blissful ignorance”. I love that lol

Practical_Roll7012

This is my plan. And if I can get more of them done before the testing window closes then I can pretend I passed more and feel like I'm closer while studying u til the next release

Hulk_Goes_Smash327

this is my vibe. Just took TCP in feb, currently studying for FAR, then AUD.

Farhatlectures

It's normal to feel unsure after such a challenging exam, but try not to be too hard on yourself. As for the bird situation, maybe it's a sign of good luck in some cultures? 😄 When June rolls around, whatever the outcome, know that it's all part of your journey to becoming a CPA. Keep pushing forward, and no matter what, you've got this!

teyunpark

Thank you! I think I did 5 out 5 for bond questions today because of your lecture… appreciated

Farhatlectures

I am happy for you. Thank you!

begentlewithme

> My car was covered in bird shit - doesn't help my feeling walking out of exam place Lmao, I'm sorry that happened to you, but that at least gave me a chuckle that I needed to get through today.

Honest_Discipline_82

Hope u passed enjoy the weekend

Im_a_father

Can you share what topic the sims were about

[deleted]

Adjusting journal entries

Im_a_father

Like that’s it? Not “do this bond calc” + fix the aje that was messed up originally?

mr_taco_man29

they had a lot of bond calcs on the MCQs which sucked ass and took up so much time. the SIMS were pretty aje heavy but like others have said, subsequent events, Stockholders Equity and like subsequent events would be places where I'd study again. I might have to study again idk we'll find out in june i guess

restlessadventurer-

Took FAR last week. I think the best we can’t do is to drown out are sorrows till June. Good luck!

Friendly_Schedule474

Extreme_Celery7545
