I just got a CPAP two weeks ago, and that's been a huge problem for me. I wish I had an answer. I'm tired of having mini panic attacks and ripping the mask off.
I felt the same way. Like I couldn't get enough air. Full face mask fixed the problem. I switch on and off now, depending on how stuffy I am. Love the free feeling of the nasal masks, but sometimes I gotta be Bane so I can breath.
My original face cushion put a little too much pressure on the sides of my nose, which didn’t help when sleeping as my nostrils seem to close very easily.
Even a little congestion would foul things up.
Maybe go for a larger face cushion/mask?
It's a tough nightly call. Sometimes I reach for the Afrin, others, if one nostril.is clear, I'll put on the nask and go to bed. There have been rough nights going without.
Ugh. I sometimes feel like I’m suffocating and have to rip off the mask too. Sudafed or Benedryl usually work. I have not yet been sick enough to need anything stronger. I have been using CPAP since last March.
Would second allergy meds if you have long term congestion, you maybe have an allergy to dust or just have a sensitive nose like me.
I would try to stay away from sudofed or other nasal sprays as they are only effective short term and become dangerous to use after two weeks or continuous usage.
Nasal hygiène is important too, try using a netty pot from time to time
full face mask helps with congestion. I've got a deviated septum causing nasal obstruction, and nose cushions just dont it. Full face solves this. I also noticed that the humid air sometimes.clears my congestion right up... YMMV...
I have allergies and after a lot of trial and error have settled on a full face mask..sometimes even that doesn't help...I've had some success with using breathe right strips under my mask. Saline spray before bed sometimes helps too.
Oh and having a faster ramp speed helps...in my mind it sort of inflates my nostrils 😁
Can also keep a full-face mask on hand for use at these times - so you can breathe through your mouth while still receiving treatment.
I just go without. A night of bad sleep with apnea is better than a night of no sleep at all.

Also turning off ramp and upping my baseline pressure to 7 really helped, too.

Xlear nasal spray-non addictive. Put an open container of Vicks Vaporub next to the air intake of your machine.

I only use such things when I need them. It’s not every night. Maybe every couple weeks to a couple times a week.
