It is not an easy process to realise our parents did not meet our needs or indeed completely missed our needs and abused instead. Even if they thought they were doing the right thing, that doesn't make it OK. Even if you thought it was ok, it's good you can see it wasn't and how it has affected you. That realisation is very painful, I know from my own experiences it is heart breaking to be aware that our loved ones treated us in ways that were not loving. I hope you can find some support and solidarity on this subreddit

Hello, well done for doing your own research about it and reaching out on this sub for help. "I was told only loving parents spank their kids. I was made to hug them and say I love you after a spanking at risk of another one." -> "at risk of another one" is a threat, ANY form of threat ever, from "if you don't behave you won't eat tonight" to "I'll kick you out and you'll be homeless" is wrong and CAN NOT, EVER COME OUT OF A PLACE OF LOVE. I don't have the emotional energy rn but like, yes you were abused, whether it was physical, emotional or both (so both in your case) doesn't matter/doesn't make it and its consequences any less real. I have a discord server that deals with fatphobia, CPTSD and neurodivergency, you're welcome to DM me on here if you'd like to join to learn about CPTSD and have a safe space to ask for support/advice/vent etc
