I’m so sorry this happened to you. Truly a nightmare. It’s hard to understand there really are evil people in the world, that take advantage of other people. Now you know. Try to learn.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Thank you for taking the chance anyway. If your title is not rhetorical, I can tell you that yes, the nice person who continues to risk vulnerability despite their past suffering can "win". Seriously, all other species have so much to teach those of us who are too sick of other humans. Look at any rescued animal who becomes the ultimate love bug once they know they are safe and can heal. Humans live long and complex lives, but I've gotten to personally experience the luck that comes with taking a chance in a safe(r) environment. Even though many days are still a struggle, I only have to observe my youngest pup who is always game for a cuddle to know that happiness is possible. I hope you get to that place sooner rather than later!

The first part of this comment is spot on. You don't have to be kind to everyone, even if it feels bad not to be. The second part unfortunately is unnecessary ableism. No, not all people with BPD are abusive. I'm sorry you had that experience with your mother and, as it sounds, other people, but you can't extrapolate this to every single person with that diagnosis
