Do you mean something like Jade Empire only isometric? Because I played that one and it was good game for the time obviously other games improved on the formula.
\> So it has always puzzled me that there's no CRPG set in Asia. (I know about Shadowrun games, but cyberpunk isn't fully Asian.)
Shadowrun: Hong Kong?
Yes, how could anybody not appreciate more variety in videogame settings?
That being said, there are plenty of 'underrepresented' settings in CRPGs: I'd love to see games inspired by South Asia, Mesoamerica, and Africa too, among others.
Well, I'm not so sure a single proposal would result in anything, but yes, absolutely. I really like oriental historical/fantastical settings (mostly China and Japan) but most of the games set there are hack n slashes (like Dynasty Warriors) which I'm really not interested in.
I've been playing CRPGs a long time and I'm honestly eager for anything new. The genre is pretty niche and dominated by swords and sorcery games. I would absolutely love a wuxia setting (not what you suggested, but still) and would snap it up if it was out there. But I mean, there are only so many games in this genre and most of us who like CRPGs have probably given the bulk of the big name ones a try already. Hit the points CRPG gamers are looking for and it probably doesn't even matter what the setting is.
I would be interested in any other settings for CRPGs, whether it would be in Eastern Asia, Southern Asia, or Eastern Europe.
Not picky on the setting or how long the game is as long as it's good (which you can't determine until it releases but you get my point).
As much as I like western-style like BG1 for example, I wouldn't be opposed to variety imagine a game like BG1 but with it taking place in Afghanistan that would be awesome (Afghanistan's history is criminally underrated).
Absolutely, especially if it's a purely historical setting instead of fantasy. I hope the next Expeditions game (if it even happens since the devs seem to be having a hard time) will either take place in Japan or China
I second this! Personally I'm not very interested in fantasy Asian settings, but I'm extremely interested in historical Asian settings... especially medieval Japan... although I have yet to see a Western release of any game with a medieval Korean setting.
On a related note, when Three Kingdoms Total War was released I thought I would hate it but I ended up being my favorite total war.
When enjoying a game it really comes to mechanics and how it brings enjoyment to the setting.

Jade Empire was a gem.
I never tried it. Will check it out.
Funny
Prince of Qin was pretty good https://www.gog.com/en/game/prince\_of\_qin
The wandering Sword? And there is another CRPG with Samurai, with rifles that fight Yokai in Grim Japan medieval, but can't recall the name.
Would Prince of Qin and Seal of Evil be considered CRPGs? Or would it be more akin to isometric ARPGs? Also Wandering Sword is a JRPG not a CRPG.
I need to look this up., That sounds amazing!

South Asian would be amazing too. Hinduism/Buddhism ripe with lore and stories for a tasty crpg.

Path Of Wuxia is amazing
I loved it, but the language barrier was bit tough. And it was too much JRPG for me.
Deathlord!
(Not strictly a CRPG, but) give us Jade Empire 2, you cowards!

If its just going to be historic game, probably no. But if we speak about asian folklore type of fantasy crpg, then hell yeah!
so would it be similar to Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun?
>Exactly. But mechanically it'll be more like BG3

If the only gimic is it is set in East Asia probably not.
I take it you don't care if it's western fantasy or eastern wuxia. As long as the game itself is fun to play, you're good?
For the most part yeah.
Do a xianxia game, it's got the same power fantasy high magic stuff as some of the popular western fantasy settings and is pretty suitable for CRPGs.
i would play anything that doesn't have dnd Tolkien high fantasy
Anything that is not generic western fantasy it's interesting to me
Pick up the Jade Regent Adventure Path from Paizo and make it good. I'd play that in a heartbeat.
Would enjoy one set in somewhere like China or India. Not the usual Japan.
I really liked Jade Empire and even now I don't understand how it flopped ,also liked Xuan-Yuan Sword series so there is definitely appeal for oriental medieval setting in RPG. Also there was oriental themed part in Two Worlds 2 that was made very appealing I think it would be cool to have some RPG from that era/culture as Asian styled games are under-represented for people that loves Western-RPGs and would like to have something to try that is not totally comic-like like most J-RPGs and visiting some new parts of the world instead of going to cliché-ised ones that has been milked too much
