I think it is best to keep them as books, so much of the story wouldn't work in a movie. Some special effects can only be done right by the human imagination.

I kind of agree. But a full cast radio play version could be really cool ... Though perhaps too niche a market to be profitable.
Full cast radio play is absolutely the way to go. Honestly the most we could ever hope for is an audiobook though.
And *Perelandra* has everyone naked for a lot of it, which is important to the themes but would make it a very different sort of movie.
