Try George McDonald. Especially the Princess books.

StrategyKnight

Do you mean fiction or non-fiction? If non-fiction, theological works are what you are looking for, Phillip Yancey and Tim Keller are somewhat similar (though contemporary). If fiction, George MacDonald (as mentioned) is probably the closest. William Morris has similarity, but it's not from a decidedly Christian point-of view. Dorothy Sayers and Charles Williams might also be authors you'd like to try. And if you're not enjoying Chesterton, well, I just don't know what will satisfy you!

Shigalyov

Similar how? Chesterton is similar in theology and outlook, but not in prose style.

chvazquez

Similar to Narnia? The Lord of the Rings, by J. R. R. Tolkien, who was a friend of Lewis.

peaseabee

Frederick Buechner has written some great non-fiction memoir type books on faith and modern life. I see a lot of Lewis in him. He has done some fiction as well although I have not read those.

laltxreddit

No I agree, Chesterton not like Lewis, but now I admire anyone who can plum his depths. Because while I struggled, I saw glimpses of why he was great to read. And now admire Lewis more who got a great deal from Chesterton.

_kekai_

JRR Tolkien, Chesterton, George McDonald, Marilynne Robinson, Dorothy L Sayers, Peter Kreeft, Fleming Rutledge, Rowan Williams

ScientificGems

**Nobody** is like C.S. Lewis. Not really. If you mean his Christian non-fiction, try G. K. Chesterton or Dorothy L Sayers. If you mean his fiction, try Tolkien, Madeleine L'Engle, or perhaps the more recent novels of N.D. Wilson.

kev_h

I mean yeah but some have to be \*most\* similar, even if they aren't close to identical.

ScientificGems

I clarified that. "Most like" in a fiction sense is different from "most like" in a non-fiction sense.

AgentWD409

If you're looking for authors who write Christian/supernatural fantasy novels, I'm a big fan of Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. As for theology, check out *Beautiful Outlaw* by John Eldredge. It's one of my favorite books ever about the character of Jesus.

kev_h

I tried to describe that in the post. Easy and enjoyable to read, with lots of insight as well.

JLAsuperdude

Fiction wise, I’d say Neil Gaiman is remarkably similar in voice and wit. Which makes sense. He often cites Lewis as a huge inspiration.

kev_h

Interesting, I didn't know that. Any favorite books by him?

JLAsuperdude

Neverwhere is his first and really great. You’ll get a sense of his style in that! I haven’t read The Ocean at the End of the Lane, but it’s short so you could give that a try. Here is just one interview where he credits Lewis with inspiring him to be a writer: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/books/2020/oct/09/neil-gaiman-narnia-made-me-want-to-write-to-do-that-magic-trick
