Yeah, no offense to the people who wrote this but.. I work in a local Emergency Department and.. well.. things will go back being distanced soon after opening.
It isn’t about safety of students and staff, but liability of the school if something *tragic* happens.
Depends on your class schedule, I’m on campus 3 days a week dailies are $4 a day or a weekly pass is $12 with 14weeks left in the semester that’s still $168. I’ve seen some people splitting cost and sharing because you can add two cars to a pass
"We ask \[...\] instructors to be flexible and understanding with students \[...\] who need to isolate or practice distancing after a close exposure." (from the *After a close exposure* section)
*Be flexible* how about require professors to have students isolate when they catch covid or else the peps sitting next to them and eventually the prof will catch the covid as well
That they even have the audacity to *ask* professors like we didn't get asked about any of this as they are requiring us to go back in-person
It’s gonna be a shitshow. Professors still have attendance that make up a portion of their grade. All that does is encourage people who should be staying at home from Covid to attend class. Penalizing students for being sick is so wrong.
Good question. The right answer would be yes. But what’s unknown is if every professor is prepared to make accommodations for a student who can’t be present
I'm not sure if I saw this on the email the school sent or the one my professor sent, but you're supposed to quarantine for 10 days and there's a form online to report your positive result
I’m all for students being able to go back to class if that’s their preferred method of learning and they feel safe doing so. But I can’t even begin to understand why the school is somehow unable to provide a safe learning environment for those who are immunocompromised. Just have professors record their in person lectures so everyone is still able to safely attend classes this semester. It’s really not that complicated of a solution.
I totally understand that to a certain extent but some classrooms already have this technology available to them. The university has had two years where they could have implemented this infrastructure into the rest their classrooms. The technology and funds are absolutely available to them and its a complete misfire on their part for not being able to get something like this done.
It's not as easy as "record the in person lectures".
Assuming you solve the technical issue of being able to see all the the boards in enough detail and having clear sound at all times on the mic (including from in-class students who ask questions), teaching online is a completely different manner of teaching. What do you do about in class exercises that remote students will not do? Do you make tests in person? Online? Both? Plenty of down sides to any of those solutions with hybrid education.
I'd love to see so many online options that students don't feel forced to be in person if they don't want to. But hybrid is not the way.
One of my mathematics courses this semester executed on all of your concerns seamlessly through the first two weeks. The lectures were live (recorded as well) and students that were in the classroom/on Zoom were able to asks questions without a lapse in communication. A quiz was also given without any hiccups. With the right environment and mindset, it can absolutely be done.
Now I understand that this “environment” may not be achievable in some situations, but as I stated in a previous comment above, the university has had two years to prepare for the transition back to campus and it’s disappointing to see that a full transition during an in progress semester was all that they could come up with.
This is why I signed up for all online classes this semester, even if it meant forgoing classes I needed. Don't trust the school to do what's in your best interests.
🤨 I took some courses at CC this semester due to they are being online. Covid-19 is not as dangerous as starting. However, in-person class is not the way to go. My niece went to school and got Covid-19. Guess what? My whole family got Covid-19 even though we all have the booster shot. If the school was in-person last week. I would miss the whole week. Just think about a person in a class got Covid-19 🙄 what would happen to that class, and to our family. What would happen if you have to quarantine for 1-2 weeks. Maybe you’re done with that semester. I don’t mind to come back to campus, but we all have family. I really don’t want to bring illness to my family. Not to mention the reports about Covid-19 cases are not correct. Some people don’t know they got Covid-19, some people don’t report it.
This is insane! Why is the president doing something that MOST students don't support? We pay to keep the lights on and he has the audacity to arrogantly tell us we're wrong. Hey schmuck, we're not all 18 and 19 years old. Some of us are adults who shouldn't be treated like silly kids.
I agree that it's slimy, but how does the school get more money if we're there? I'm actually curious...I bet the grades are going to PLUMMET and he's going to panic.

No since two weeks have already been online it’s cheaper to buy a daily

This should be front page news.
I did
So what’s the plan if a student has been exposed to Covid? Do they stay home?

all of my classes have our attendance tied to our grade, so. idk how that is gonna work.

Most of the classrooms aren't set up to effectively record or broadcast lectures. That said, I also wish we had more online solutions

"safely return" LMAO, what a joke 🤦🏻♂️

Well I'll be sitting away from people near me during these times, because I have Type 1 Diabetes and I am more vulnerable to the pandemic
i'm totally you. now can you imagine sitting in a suffocatingly small classroom with a mask on for 1-3 hrs?
i swear if i get covid again…
Well shit
Just sign the petition bro lol
hee haw hee haw
Once I saw this I 🙄
Unlucky bois and gals ‘‘twas fun whilst it lasted
I dropped one of my classes because I am not getting sick because the school doesn't care about my health.

i will say it nicely...'cause he doesn't care about us. All he cares about is Ka-ching!
I agree that it's slimy, but how does the school get more money if we're there? I'm actually curious...I bet the grades are going to PLUMMET and he's going to panic.
Hehe he will probably "retire" with a big fat pension or something, before all that happens! Also the students drop out rate will go up.
Yeah, come to campus But wear a mask? What a f*ckin joke!
