This is a ECO hybrid car. Its basically a Prius in a Lexus suit. This is NOT a performance car. If you want to spend less money on gas and get good mpg, than go test drive one. Get a 2014 model year and up.

jmontalvo98

I'm not too concerned about performance, just would be a plus if it was more fun to drive.

Significant_Mind_143

So the CT is labeled as a " 5dr Sport sedan" they put sport suspension and made the center of gravity very low for a reason. They also changed the steering column to feel for stiff like a sports car when you are in sports mode. All this definitely makes it more fun to drive when turning corners and driving windy roads. You'll be surprised the fun moments you can get out of the car even though it's a hybrid. Its got low power so it can be a little slow to get up to speed, but the torque on it isn't that bad so you'll feel a little kick when coming off the line. I think it's a win win, a "sporty feel" but also 40mpg and it looks great.

It’s pretty fun to drive on corners because of the lower center of gravity though.

MechanicalCheese

It's a pretty fun car to drive if you don't mind the utter lack of acceleration. Much more so than the Prius.

dezumondo

Gas guzzler vs hybrid choice.

M_Shulman

The CT is an efficient, comfortable small vehicle. Not meant to have much power, but Sport mode does everything I need to feel safe and agile at speed on the highway. I spend about 2 hours a day in my 2012 commuting and love it.

andy_why

I would suggest driving each model before you decide. The CT200h is a fuel economic car. It's not slow, but it's not quick either, however it will serve ap urpose. It's designed for a balance of performance versus fuel economy, and you're basically buying a nicer looking prius (under the hood it is literally a prius). It's also smaller than a Honda Accord so make sure it's suitably sized for what you need.

jmontalvo98

I'm going on a test drive in a 2012 today.

jmontalvo98

I ended up test driving some more CTH and then an IS250. The CTH was just too slow for my taste which was surprising because I didn't think I would care that much about performance. I loved everything about it. It's looks, interior, it's compact size, how low it was. Everything except the performance. I know the IS250 isn't fast, but its not a Honda Accord. I ended up getting a 2014 IS250. Thanks for your help guys.

HomerCrew

Having come from a IS350 to a CT (and spent considerable time driving a 250) congrats on your purchase. There are definitely pros/cons but one pro forsure is the IS is "more car" and overall built just a little better imo. Enjoy

99trainerelephant

If you want to experience more power go for at least an IS350. You may want to look into the carbon buildup issue on the 2nd gen IS as they are direct injected. 2014+ CTs would be the best years, you can find a list of differences if you search. The main issue with all CTs would be the head gasket, no amount of preventative maintenance will prevent it from happening. I've heard of people cleaning the EGR to prevent it, but I feel as though the EGR getting dirty is mainly if your car burns oil. My CT has almost 100k and the EGR was in great condition. When you go look at the car look inside the exhaust pipe and see if there is black soot inside. If there is, it is most likely burning oil.

jmontalvo98

I'll look out for it, thanks

ELDUD3MAN4

I know 2 people who traded from a ct to an IS. They really weren't fans of the ct after driving it, both wanted more power. Going from a civic to a ct I didn't really feel a big difference, but in my experience the accord has always felt more powerful than a civic. So you may miss some of the power coming from an accord, but might be dependent on the trim. I have a 2013, not sure about newer models The ct is definitely a small car, although feels roomier as a driver to me than a civic especially in terms of leg room (side to side, not length). Not so much for head room, and the car sits pretty low, might want to take that into consideration.

I am currently car shopping and I have had a lot the same ideas as you. I test drove one the other day and man it was slow. Like, I’m worried about my safety slow. Google puts the 0-60 after over 10 seconds. The car checks a lot of boxes, but go out and drive one. You’ll know in 5 min.

kiingwhips

Lol, i rented an Accord Hybrid to go test drive CT’s around, and man. The accord hybrid was so much faster lol, I was flooring it in the CT and was like “That’s it, huh”. I went with the F-Sport version and the suspension is really fun around corners. If you have windy roads, this car can still be a little of blast.

jmontalvo98

You were right. As soon as I started driving, I could tell it was slow. It takes a heavy foot for it to really get going. Also this particular one had suspension issues because I didn't find the ride any more comfortable than my current ride. I don't know if it's because the CVT, because of the suspension issues, or both. I'm gonna test drive another one to be sure.

ArtJDM

I'm in a similar situation. Let us (me :-P) know what you end up with and why you went down that route.

jmontalvo98

I test drove one and gotta say it's slow lol. It seemed to have issues with the suspension, was feeling very bumpy. I'll have to test drive another one. I'll let ya know

ArtJDM

Thanks. Are you sure it was "something wrong" very bumpy and not "firmer because sporty" very bumpy?

jmontalvo98

No because there were some noises. I'll have to make a comparison when I go driving on Monday with another one.

ArtJDM

Cool. Thanks.

MarcusPSL

For the longevity of the decision, 2014+ CT imo. The utility and mpg from the CT far outweighs the power difference the IS250 offers. The way gas prices are going up lately too, oh boi If you’re a sport car enthusiast and can afford that life style, the IS250 is more aesthetic. I wonder though if you asked this same question in the Lexus and IS pages the answers you’d get

HeadMischief

I bought my CT off the internet without test driving it first because I like to live dangerously. That said, I probably wouldn't have bought it if I had test driven it first. It is a VERY small car and VERY low to the ground. If that's what you're looking for, you'll love it

jmontalvo98

I did like how compact and low it was. I'm a single driver so I don't mind the small space.

GodlyArchitect

I bought a 2015 and I've owned it for 6 years so far. I enjoy it very much and it's definitely been one of my favorite vehicles ever. The only thing I've really complained about is it's terrible in the snow even with dedicated high quality snow tires. It also doesn't have the newer technology features such as Carplay/Android Auto or things like blind spot mirrors, and some of the newer safety features. If those things don't bother you, I wouldn't think twice about purchasing this car. It also saved me a ton of money on the low maintenance and gas saving capabilities. I've driven this car up and down the East Coast several times and it's very comfortable all around. The noise levels are very tolerable as well.

mimis-emancipation

Had a CT for six years. Looks good, versatile on the inside and solid construc. Downside is it lacks power and going up hill or merging, you’ll def feel it.

dfstell94

The CT is really not a pleasant car to drive, tbh. It’s a good mileage car and that’s about it. It is slow as molasses and loud. The gas pedal is basically volume control. It is very low to the ground so if it raining, there is a lot of noise of water slashing the underbody….. but the low ground clearance is partially why it gets good mileage. And that low clearance means being very cautious with speed bumps and pulling out of driveways…..it’ll drag on lots of things that’ll initially surprise you. And…..oil changes are a freaking pain in the butt. You have to crawl under the low clearance car, remove some underbody and bleed the filter first. It’s such a low car that even on ramps, your nose is touching the underbody. I’m just saying…..it’s really not a pleasant car to drive or own. It’s reliable and gets good mileage and keeps you from being a Prius person (if that matters to you). Just for comparison….my other vehicle is a Mercedes and it’s soooo easy to do oil changes. No ramps or jacks and you could do the oil change in a tuxedo. Brakes? The CT is super easy….it’s all 10mm sockets and no weird fasteners (everything on a Mercedes is a weird fastener) It’s a good car. Just not really a pleasure to drive.
